Chapter 2

Summary:

“I do wish to warn you gatito, they are bad news.” He gestured towards the tallest of the three, the gray one. ”He is not so pleased that you said no to him, nor is he pleased with Softpaws.”

The tabby felt his fur bristle. “Kitty-“

“I thought I should warn you.” The wolf pushed himself up. “As fun as this has been, I must go.”

“Wait!” Puss ran up to him. “You’ll still be around right?”

“I am everywhere.” Death chuckled. “I would be lying if I said I didn’t want you to have a good night gatito.” He smirked. “I want you in excellent shape if we are to ever spare again.”

Puss’s tail swayed. “You wish to fight me again?”

“Sí.” Death gave a grin. “You are the only mortal to ever touch me with a blade and to have given me a challenge.”

Chapter Text

Kitty could swear she had been walking these hallways for at least thirty minutes.

Even with the different picture on the walls she still managed to get lost, after all she and Perrito always followed Puss when traveling in the castle. After turning a corner she started to hear noises, she followed.

Kitty found herself finally finding the hallway that led to the stairs and standing at the top of the stairs was none other than Princess Fiona herself, her dress bright blue, the sleeves short and puffy as they slid off her shoulders showing skin. It reached her feet and had a slit that traveled up to below her knee showing off her light blue hills. Her red hair dangled with curls proud and thick.

Shrek was beside her, his suit simple, the black bow tie centered and his black overcoat ironed. The white undershirt tucked in his pants, he looked like a bachelor.

Fiona looked over, her red lip glossed lips turning into a smile as she saw Kitty approaching them, the split skirt on the cat bouncing. “I see you decided to join us.”

“I’m not late am I?” She questioned, the cat really hoped she hadn’t left Puss and Perrito to wait on her. To her relief the princess shook her head. “No, you’re only twenty minutes late.”

Kitty looked down the stairs, the crowds of people coming in filled the room. “Woo, it is packed.”

“It sure is.” Shrek chuckled. “It’s gonna be a lively night.”

The black cat looked away and turned her head past the two and down the hallway, down the one she knew Puss had taken hours ago. Frowning, she turned back to scan the crowd. “Is he?”

“He hasn’t shown up yet.” Fiona turned her head down the same hallway she was staring at a second ago. “He’ll be here soon though.” She gave a soft smile as she looked back at her friend, finally getting a good look of the outfit the tabby had chosen for her. “I must say Kitty, that suit really fits you.”

The black feline smiled, she held up both sides of her split skirt. “Gracias princesa, I think so too.” She did a small spin to show off how the skirt ruffled. “Didn’t my gato do such a good job picking this one out?” Her arms spread, her smile not faltering, not once.

“I must agree.” Fiona smiled as Shrek put his arm around her, he looked at the female cat. “Puss picked out a good color.”

“Sí, it is my favorite after all.” She dusted off her suit quickly. “You both look very nice yourselves.”

“Oh thank you Kitty.” She grinned. “It’s a bit different than I’m used to so I thought I’d give it a go.” Kitty followed her gaze and saw her looking over to a small group of small ogres with one wearing a cute puffy pink dress and the two wearing red and black suits. “The kids took longer than expected .”

Shrek laughed. “You can say that again hun. The boys kept running off or wanting to go play out in the mud. My sweet girl wanted to go eat sweets.” Kitty giggled.

“Well, enough about us.” Fiona laughed as she clapped her hands together. “He’ll be here soon, you’ll notice when he’s here I promise you.”

“Alright princesa.” She nodded.

“Perrito is down there though, so is Donkey. I’m sure they’ll be excited to see your new suit.” Kitty agreed with a small wave and made her way down the stairs slowly, scanning the area until she heard her name.

“Kitty!”

Her ears perked up and looked down to see a small dog running towards the stairs when she reached the middle of them. She ran the rest of the way down. Her wedged boots hit the floor right when Perrito cuddled up to her, his tail wagged. He wore a cute white and blue suit, pastel colored. The tail of the suit hung down his back some. Right on his chest was a blue rose clipped on.

“Perrito.” Kitty smiled. “You look absolutely dashing tonight mi querido amigo.” She rubbed his head, his eyes squinting in comfort. Perrito’s grin did not lower. “You look amazing Kitty!”

“Thank you.” She did a small spin, the dog’s eyes widened in amazement. “Oh wow!” He put his paws together. “That’s such a cool suit!”

“Isn’t it?” Kitty placed a paw on her hip, the other at her side. “And would you have known that Puss is the one that picked it for me?” Perrito tilted his head to the side. “He did?”

“Mhm.” She nodded. “Fiona got him to spend the first hour he left to pick me a suit.” She dusted off the skirt. “He even picked the color.”

“Well he picked a good one. It’s got you written all over it!” Kitty chuckled. “Thanks amigo.” The small dog smiled until he looked around. “Where’s Puss?”

“He’s still upstairs.” She frowned. “But don’t worry, he’ll be down soon.”

“I hope so.”

“Well look at you!” Both their ears perked up as they looked to the side and saw Donkey trotting up to them, his suit a lot like Shrek’s. He had a purple flower on the right side of his chest. “Softpaws I do declare, that suit looks good on you.” Donkey walked up to the two, his bow tie ridiculously big. “I see you got the pants like you wanted.”

“Gracias Donkey.” She stepped to the side to show her suit. “It’s nice huh?”

“Puss picked it out for her!” Perrito smiled up at the other male, his eyes had stars in them. “Doesn't it look nice!” Donkey raised an eyebrow. “Puss picked it?”

“Sí.” Kitty walked up close to the short perro, her fingerless gloved hands behind her back. “He helped Fiona figure out what I’d like. It’s perfecta, ¿No?”

“Alright I’ll admit, it’s got you written all over it.” Donkey laughed. “He picked good.”

“Indeed.”

He looked past the duo. “I take it he hasn’t come down yet?”

“Nope.” Perrito gave a small frown. “But he’ll be down soon! Then I can see what he wore tonight and he can try the cupcakes I made.”

“Ahh, I forgot all about you cooking in the kitchen earlier Perrito.” Kitty looked down at the small perro. “How’d they turn out?” Her friend grinned, he jumped from paw to paw. “Ooh you just have to taste them!” He walked off, the two looking at each other before following.

“I made a lot of cupcakes, so I can restock throughout the night.” Small nails clicked against the hard floor. “But they are delicious!” They approached a table with trays of cupcakes among them, many spots vacant. “Oh wow, they are disappearing faster than I thought they would.”

“I may or may not have eaten like ten of them within the time the party has started.” Donkey chuckled.

“Donkey!” Perrito whined. “I’m glad you like them, but ten in twenty minutes?”

“What can I say, they are good.” He shrugged. “Plus I’m not the only one, a lot of people here are enjoying them.”

“Well I do have plenty in the back, as long as you’re enjoying them.” He grinned and reached for a cupcake as he handed it to Kitty. The cat took the treat in her paws, the icing a pretty blue swirled with white making a gradient. It held multicolored sprinkles, “here you go, tell me what you think.”

Kitty slowly brought it to her mouth, her sharp teeth piercing the baked good. She munched on it, a small satisfied moan escaping her as the rest was eaten within seconds. “My stars Perrito.” She smacked her lips together. “This is amazing.”

“You think so?” His tail swayed fast. “I’m so glad you like it! I can’t wait for Puss to get here so he can try it!” He looked up at the stairs, Kitty grabbed another cupcake and a white napkin. “He’ll be here soon.”

“See, I told you it was good.” The donkey playfully nudged the dog with his hoof gently. “Softpaws over here are going in for seconds.” The two boys looked to see her stuffing her face, icing at the edge of her mouth. She blinked and stopped as she stared at them. “Hey.” She spoke, her mouth full. “It’s not my fault they're good.”

Perrito laughed, Donkey just snorted. “Hey, I don’t blame you. They're too hard to resist.” Kitty gulped down the last of her food. “You are right, amigo.” She reached for another along with a few other guests who were around causing Perrito’s eyes to widen. “I should probably get the next batch out here.”

Grinning Donkey trotted over. “I’ll help you bring it out.” He licked his lips. “I want first dibs.” His friend laughed. “Thanks Donkey, I appreciate it.” He looked over to Kitty who was slowly eating her third cupcake as she licked the blue icing off her lips. “We’ll be back Kitty.”

“Need help?” She spoke after she swallowed a bite. Perrito chuckled as he shook his head. “Nah, Donkey is enough help.”

“If you’re sure.”

“I am, you stay out here in case Puss comes down soon.” With a smile he waved at Donkey to follow him. The two walked off with Kitty waving her paw. “Alright, just let me know if you need any help.”

“Will do!” Perrito shouted before the many people around hid them from her view. She blinked before going back to her cake, she walked off slowly, her wedged hills clicking against the marble floor. She passed a trash can and dumped the napkin she had, wiping her paws off against each other. Kitty’s eyes fell over to the other side of the room, a punch bowl full of liquid caught her attention, it made her thirsty just by looking at it.

“Ah.” Kitty made her way across the room as she took her time, passing by people who complimented her outfit and giving them a quick “thank you” before continuing on her way. She heard other conversations around her as she approached the table, grabbing a plastic cup she took the ladle and dumped it in, watching the liquid make its way into the utinsul. Her ears laid back as she listened to others around her, some talking about Fiona and Shrek and how lovely they were, how great their anniversary party was going. She smiled.

Kitty heard another group talking about the food, how the cooks did such a good job. The cat grinned, she’d definitely have to tell Perrito later. Some mentioned the king who was away on business and how it was a shame. She poured the drink a couple times in a cup before taking a sip, the cool liquid soothing against her throat. All the conversations were small, some talking about themselves which was the most common. But then she heard one that caught her full attention, thier words just loud enough for her to hear.

“Did you all hear? The hero Puss in boots will be here tonight.” The voice was male.

“Really? Where is he?” The other voice was male as well, a bit more rough than the other, but you could hear his interest peaked at hearing the news.

“I believe he is still getting ready or something, some of the staff told it to a little puppy awhile ago when I walked by.” Kitty's ears perked at that, that definitely was Perrito.

“Well, I can wait.” The second male said. “When he does arrive I want to ask him for a dance.” She could hear the smirk in his voice.

“What?” A new voice spoke with a softer tone than the other two, Kitty could tell they were behind her a couple of feet away, they were not at all quiet. “I hate to break your bubble, but I believe he has a date.”

“When?”

“Well he’s been seen around the kingdom with another cat.” He shrugs. “All I heard was that the two were really close.”

“Eh it’s not a big deal, after all who would deny me a dance?” Kitty kept her drink up to her mouth, she wrinkled her nose up in disgust, it covered up by the cup. “Think of it, me who got a dance with the one and only Puss in boots?” He laughed. “One who is friends with royalty no less?”

Kitty almost broke her cup. Her thoughts were nothing but dark, how dare whoever this estúpido was thinking he could barge his way into her gato’s space just because of his status. She took a deep breath.

“I don’t know man, he already has a date. Shouldn’t we, you know, respect that?”

“Who wouldn’t want to dance with me? Plus I doubt his date will be with him the whole night.” Her paws clicked against her cup, oh how wrong the man was. Kitty could feel her blood pressure rising just from how agitated that voice made her feel and if they weren’t here she would have turned around and pounced. She walked away from the conversation between the three males and over to the column next to the table, the tall marble thick enough to hide two people behind it. Kitty leaned against it, instantly cooling down from the cold stone. She swirled her drink in her cup a couple times before taking another sip, bright blue eyes scanning the room as people chattered, some dancing, some eating, and even some flirting. Kitty looked over to the kitchen doors, the two boys still had not come out yet with the treats, Donkey probably talking their head off as he ate them no less. She laughed at the thought, her eyes going back up to the stairs and trailed up to where the two ogres were still waving to guests and talking amongst each other. That’s when a bright color caugh her eyes making them shift to the right.

The white banister hid most of the figure, but above it she could see two tall orange ears coming from the right side of the hall. Her eyes were glued and even if there were to be a raid she doubted that her eyes would have left where they were. The two ogres looked over and waved at the other, big grins on their faces as they finally noticed who was coming down the hall. Kitty brought her cup down to her chest as she watched the married couple talking, orange ears standing right where the banister started, her neck strained, but to no avail he made no move to reveal himself.

The rest of the room was blurred, the only focal point was the top of the stairs, transfixed eyes staring. She saw Fiona bend down some, red hair falling to the side of her face, her blue dress puffing up as she talked, the black cat could tell she was speaking only sweet words. The princess stayed like that for a few minutes, talking and stopping as she listened. She finally stood back up, a grin on her features as she fixed her dress. She stood beside her husband again, allowing a figure to make their way around the corner and finally be seen.

Kitty almost choked on her own drink as she fumbled with her glass that she almost dropped when she saw him. His attention was on the two ogres as they talked and she couldn’t help but just stare at him, the way his tail flicked, his paws fiddling with each other, his ears flicking at noises. Kitty licked her lips, they felt chapped and took a drink real quick to keep her throat from getting parched, blue eyes not leaving the form. She continued to stare, how could she not?

“Oh mis estrellas.”

The orange tabby had none of his previous gear on, his ears were free, the fur on top of his head was fluffed up, he wore a black glittery dress as it fluffed out when it met his hips. It reached the top of his neck and formed a choker, it was armless. Above his hip on his left side was a cut in the fabric as it was covered with a light blue glitter sheer cloth. Two thin pieces of gold glitter were around his waist, one looser than the other as it hung down his hip some like a belt. The gown had a slit on the right side, it reached the top of his hip, a light gray fabric underneath it a few inches down just above the knee. His right leg was shown revealing tall gray wedges that were boots, the light gray lace reaching all the way up to the top. Behind him was a light blue transparent fabric that almost resembled a cape, it reached a few inches above his ankles. He wore black glitter fingerless gloves that reached his elbows, a light blue gem laid center at the front of the dress.

Kitty felt numb as all noise around her was muffled like nobody existed, as if she was in a void. The tabby hadn’t noticed her yet, he was still in a conversation, his eyebrows casted down in a concerned fashion. Feeling as if eyes were on him the tabby turned his head towards her, the black Molly sucking in a breath, holding onto her drink so it wouldn't fumble in her paws again. He noticed her immediately and went to hide partially behind the tall princess, his green eyes falling to the floor for a second before going up as Fiona held eye contact with him, her words obviously full of encouragement.

“So this is what she meant by a surprise.” Kitty muttered to herself as she watched Puss who would glance her way every so often, as if he wasn’t sure if it was safe to come down. Now thinking back on what the ogre said it was obvious what she was doing, but she had been blind to it. Her thoughts always trailed to the idea of Puss in a dress, especially before Santa coloma and after, she always thought he had the physique for it and she was right, he did, he looked better now than he had in her imagination.

Kitty couldn't help but grin widely, she did like the little surprise she was given. Looking up to said cat Kitty frowned and had to admit, she had never seen him this nervous before and she’d be lying if she said it didn’t bother her.

The tuxedo cat noticed Fiona persuading him, his steps small as he stepped out from behind her and to the side. Shrek was patting him on top of his head as soft as he could, the princess rubbing his shoulder reassuringly and soon their eyes met again. Blue and green meshed together as if they were lost, neither moving for a good few seconds. Kitty could hear a few people notice the hero had finally joined the party, but their words were jumbled as her attention only resided on this one being, she could tell he felt the same.

Placing her cup down she made her way over to the stairs, the clicking of her hills the only sound she could hear. Puss followed suit, his paw holding onto the railing as he made his way down the steps carefully, slowly moving towards her. The two took their time, eyes never leaving the other. Kitty’s split skirt ruffled as she walked, Puss’s dress swaying softly as he passed each step, the sheer fabric designed as a cape dancing behind him.

Kitty reached the bottom of the stairs as she waited, her ears up at attention as she watched the orange form approaching her. After six long hours she had finally got to see him again, the patience well worth the wait. With one final step he gracefully stood on the last step before your foot touched the castle's floor. Kitty now having him right in front of her could only freeze, she had not thought he could look better than he had from far off, but she was wrong. Up close she could tell he had his usual eyeliner on, but with thicker and longer lines, some light lipstick on and a touch of eyeshadow, the color of a beautiful livid.

“Wow”

Even though she spoke in a soft whisper, his ears picked it up easily. Puss rubbed one of his arms covered in elbow length gloves, the black glitter scraping his fingers. “I-I know it’s a lot.” He bit his lip. “But Fiona said you’d like it and well.” He put his two paws together, twiddling thumbs pressing together nervously, the fingerless gloves showing off his paws, cream colored nails painted black. “I knew this was a bad idea, I’ll just take it off-“

“No!” Kitty shouted, white paws outstretched to prevent him from leaving, her face flushed at her sudden outburst as some eyes looked at them. Puss’s own green ones wide from the sudden scream. “No?”

“Sí.” Kitty looked her partner up and down a couple times, taking in his outfit the princess took hours to finish, the outfit she was told was a surprise. “It’s perfect on you mi amor.” She took his right paw in hers and gave the knuckles a kiss. “You look absolutely hermoso Puss.”

His face flushed as her lips grazed his paw, the heat on his face worsening by the second. She let his hand go as she watched him. He looked down at himself, taking a hand and pulling up a handful of the dress and lifted it, showing off the material.

 “You like it?”

“I do.” Kitty nodded. “I will admit, I always wanted to see you wear one.” A black and white tail swayed gently behind her. “I adore this on you, you’re espléndido.”

“M-me?” He sputtered and held a hand out at her. “But look at you, you look so-“ He stopped, stuttering on his words. The tuxedo cat raised her eyebrows with an amused smirk. “So?”

“Charming?” Puss ran a paw through his small bangs. “Dreamy?” He could practically feel the blood rushing to his cheeks and he prayed the other cat couldn't tell.

“Dreamy?” Kitty spoke softly, her voice almost like velvet, blue eyes never leaving green ones. “Charming?” She chuckled, her blush worsened. “Are you hinting that I am your Prince Charming my querido gatito.” A white paw rested on her chest.

“Oh don’t.” He dropped his head in his hands as a groan fell out. She laughed. “I can’t help it gato, you are giving me a huge ego stroke right now.” The orange tabby rolled his eyes, the faint form of a smile resting on his lips.

“Oh you know what I mean.” He fought back a laugh. “You look just.” He stopped to think. “You look perfecta.”

Kitty laughed, her eyes squinted in glee. “gracias amar.” The Molly took her green skirt and lifted one side up, revealing more of the dress pants underneath it showing it off. “It’s all thanks to you jengibre, it was your pick after all.”

“Well you know me gata.” Puss grinned, his nervous behavior slowly melting away. “I know you like the back of my paw.” For emphasis he turned his paw to her, showing the backside of it, his recently painted nails popping out. “I had a feeling when I saw it.”

“I’m glad you had that feeling.” She smoothed out her suit. “Cause this is the most comfortable outfit I’ve worn in a long time.” Kitty tilted her head to the side as she looked at him, her paw on her cheek. “It is a shame I couldn’t be there to help you with yours.”

Puss laughed. “Ah it is probably best you weren’t, I was a mess.” He rubbed the back of his head. “I refused at first.”

“Fiona did say you were uncooperative.”

“Eh, this is true.” He begrudgingly nodded his head. “But she told me how much you’d love it, how much they looked nice on me and well.” He shrugged. “I just went with it.”

“Wait.” Kitty raised an eyebrow. “They?”

“She had more than one.” He counted for a brief second. “About eight or nine.”

“Oh?” She set her paws on her hips. “And why this out of them all?” She tilted her head. “Not that I don’t love this dress, I adore it on you.” He looked away for a second as he thought, the tips of his ears felt hot. “It was the one I liked the most. Plus most of them were white and well.” He looked back at Kitty. “It just felt like I shouldn’t wear that color, save it for a much more special event.”

Kitty purred, his words were like honey to her ears. “That sounds wonderful, querido.” Puss looked around, he still stood on the last step and scanned the room, his ears flicked. Kitty noticed, her own ears falling down some. “Hey, you good?” Her memory takes her back weeks ago when they had been ambushed out in the woods when they first arrived. “I know how sensitive your ears are without your hat-“  Puss stopped her, his gloved paw placed gently on her lips.

“That’s dulce of you Kitty.” A small purr rumbled in his chest. “I told the princesa, she figured out a solution.”

“Which is?”

“These?” He grinned, sharp teeth poking out as he showed her his ear, inside layed small earplugs. “They don’t cancel out everything of course, but they make it much more bearable.”

“Ah, that’s good.” She smiled. “I’m pleased to know you won’t be cringing all night from how loud it is.” She grabbed his paw in hers and lifted it, his paw above hers like a fair maiden. “After all, I need a dance partner and what would I do if it wasn’t you?”

“Sulk in the corner for sure.” He closed his eyes and laughed. “But how could I leave someone so elegant such as yourself with no dance partner.” A tsk left his mouth. “That’d be truly a crime, ¿No?”

“Me, elegant?” She grabbed his other paw in hers, holding it the same as it brought the two closer. “Look at yourself, you are the description of elegant tonight.” She kissed his knuckles again. “Now how about we go over to the tables and get a bite to eat. Perrito wants you to try his sweets.”

“Perrito?” His ears perked up and looked around to see no small puppy. Kitty chuckled. “Him and Donkey are in the kitchen getting another batch.” She looked over towards the door. “Though they have been gone for a while now.” She shrugged. “Oh well, they’ll show up.” She gently tugged his arms towards her. “Until then I do believe your company is mine?”

“It's all yours.” Puss giggled out as he went to take a step off the last stair only to stop as a voice called out to him. Turning his head to the right he saw three figures coming up to them, three figures he did not know. His paws were still held by Kitty who made no move to let them go and in all honesty he was glad she didn’t. Three fairytale cats walked up to them, one a gray Russian blue cat with green eyes, a yellow rim around the edge of his eyes as he wore a black and white suit. The other a calico with dark blue eyes, he wore a navy blue suit and finally a York chocolate cat with gold eyes, he wore a light gray suit.

“Yes?” Puss looked at the three men, hoping they would say whatever they wanted and move on. He wanted to return to his night with Kitty who only stared at them. All three gatos stood, two grinning while the other gave a shy smile.

“Why it’s a pleasure to finally meet you Mr. Boots.” The Russian blue cat presented his paw to shake his hand. Puss, at first hesitant, reluctantly brought one of his paws to shake the strangers, the grip firm. “The name’s Edwin.” He pointed to the calico cat who smiled shyly. “His name is Milo.” He pointed to the York chocolate cat. “His name is Jaiden.”

Kitty and Puss both looked at each other. “Hello.” Puss awkwardly said, he gestured towards Kitty. “This is Kitty Softpaws.”

“Ah so you’re the cat that’s been seen around town with the legend here.” Edwin spoke and brought his paw out to shake hers, she, just like Puss, reluctantly did so. “Yeah, that’s me.” The tuxedo cat's tail lashed against the floor.

“Well me and Kitty here have been around each other for a long time now.” He gave her a comforting squeeze. “We met each other several years ago. So she’s been seen with me many, many times.”

“Oh?” Jaiden spoke smoothly. “I do believe I’ve heard of her before.” He tapped his chin in thought. “Jack Horner?”

“Indeed.” Kitty grinned. “Like I said before, my name is reaching all the way over here? How nice.” She tittered as did Puss who gently tugged on her hand. “Well if you’ll excuse us-“ He stopped as he was interrupted.

Edwin cleared his throat. “I almost forgot the reason I came over here.” The gray feline held out a paw. “I heard you were coming tonight Mr. Boots, but I must say you look stunning this evening.” Puss blinked a couple times, the compliment catching him off guard. “Would you give me the honor and dance with a poor cat such as myself.” Puss only grimaced.

“Uh-“

“Sorry gato, but he’s already taken.” Kitty wrapped one arm around his waist.

“I'm sure he could make an exception for little ol’ me.” He raised an eyebrow. “After all, I am a huge fan.”

Puss wanted to bang his head against the wall, this was one of the few things he hated about being known like he was. No matter what he managed to run into a creepy or annoying fan every now and again, only this time Kitty was here with him. The orange feline hated that she was involved in this situation in any sort of way. He had dealt with many yes, but not while wearing a fancy gown.

“Sorry amigo.” Puss wrapped his arm around Kitty’s shoulder, her paw staying at his hip. “But Puss in boots only dances with his partner.” He moved his free arm to the side. “There are many others here who would be glad to dance with you señor.”

Kitty smirked and helped him down and away from the three boys, Edwin holding a huge frown and Jaiden just looked tired. Milo gave a sweet smile and waved.

“Fellas.” Kitty spoke and walked him away from the group, her paw still holding his. Once far away that the crowd hid them from view she let out an agitated breath she didn’t know she was holding. Puss looked at her concerned, one ear turned towards her, it still was weird for her to see him without his hat.

“You good?”

“Yeah.” Kitty groaned and rubbed her temple. “I just can’t stand guys like that.” She rolled her blue eyes. “I heard him earlier, so cocky and delusional.” She still held his hand. They slowly walked over to the other side where the tables sat.

“Eh, kinda used to hombres like him.” Puss leaned towards her. “I have run into many fans like him.”

“You never told me.”

“Didn’t feel like it was important. I have accidentally run into a few loco ones.” He spun a finger in a circular motion at the side of his head. “It is not important.”

“It’s a little important Puss.” She pointed behind her. “That’s clearly unwanted attention.”

“True.” He looked at Kitty. “But it’s never gone to this extent.” Puss pointed his fingers at himself. “But I never wore a fancy dress before either so there’s that.” He smiled softly at her. “But there’s no reason to care, it’s not like he actually likes me the way you do.” He pointed his finger at Kitty’s chest. “He probably only sees something he could use to his advantage like status.” Green eyes rolled. “Plus where I’m good friends with the royals here I wouldn’t be surprised. But now that I told him no he should leave us alone.”

“Maybe.” Kitty felt her stomach turn. “It’s just a bit concerning is all jengibre.”

“No reason to be concerned estimada.” They reached the tables as he followed Kitty to the one she wanted him at. “But there’s no reason to get so worked up from it.”

“I am not getting worked up.” She huffed, her eyebrows pinched downward as she closed her eyes. “He just annoyed me.”

“Gata-“

“I heard him earlier before you showed up. He was so smug, talking all big and how you’d willingly dance with him because he’s well, him.” She opened her eyes. “I just felt angry and then he tried to flirt with you? I would have brought my dagger to his throat.”

Puss snorted. “Kitty, are you jealous?”

She stopped for a minute before responding. “No, I am not jealous.”

“That was not very believable estimada.”

“It’s very believable.”

“No, quite the opposite actually.” Puss took his paw and placed it on her shoulder making her look at him. “Kitty.”

“Maybe I am cariño.” She pinched her fingers close together. “Just a little, but I do not take it kindly when some random stranger, who knows we are partners, flirts with my gatito and makes him uncomfortable.” Kitty grit her teeth, venom dripping from her tone. Puss came around and put his arms around her shoulder gently as the other was still held by her paw.

“I know you want the best for me, I know you don't want anyone to take advantage of me.” He squeezed her shoulders firmly. “That is sweet of you Kitty.”

She let out a small chuckle. “You are right, I don’t want his conniving paws on you.” She placed her arms around his waist and pulled him closer. “As we talked earlier, your company is mine.”

He laughed as he bumped his head against her lovingly. “Yours and yours alone.”

“Good.” She turned her head towards the table and saw some cupcakes sitting there. “Here.” She unwrapped herself from Puss and grabbed one, the blue and white frosting fluffy. “Perrito made this, they are absolutely delicious.” She gave a chef's kiss, a big toothy smile on her face.

“He did?” Puss took the baked good in his paw, subconsciously licking his lips that didn’t go unnoticed by Kitty. He looked at it for a few more seconds before peeling back the liner and took a big bite.

“Holy Frijoles.”

“Good right?”

“These are amazing.” He licked his lips and held his hand out. “He made these?”

“I did!” The two cats meowed from surprise, turning around to see a small dog smiling. A few humans were coming over as they carried trays full of the same cupcakes. “Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I just wanted to surprise you.”

Puss with a mouth full of sweetness gulped as he swallowed the treat. “Surprise me you did.” He gave a big grin and bent down to give the dog a small hug. “These are awesome Perrito.”

“Thanks puss!” The small dog smiled from the affection. “I wasn’t sure they would turn out good.”

“Don’t doubt yourself again amigo.” The tabby ate the rest of his cupcake with glee. “These are definitely five stars.” He got a small laugh out of him.

“He is right.” Kitty ruffled the fur on his head. “These are impeccable.”

“Thanks Kitty.”

Puss went to grab another one and took a small bite. “It’s a good thing I left you here Kitty, Puss came down right when I left.”

“He came down a few minutes after.” She chuckled. “He was nervous.”

“I was not.” He said with his mouth full.

“Sure.” She grinned.

“Hey it’s okay to be nervous.” Perrito stood beside him. “Are you feeling okay now?” He tilted his head. “No anxiety, stress?”

“Nope.’ He shook his head with a smile and took another bite. “I felt much better after I found Kitty.”

“Good.” He grinned. “Which reminds me, I forgot to tell you how nice you look tonight Puss!” Perrito gave a sweet smile. “It looks really good on you!”

“Thanks Perrito.” Puss rubbed his friend's head. “I appreciate it. You look nice yourself.”

“Thanks.” His tail wagged once again. “Fiona picked it out for me.”

“It looks very nice on you.” Puss nodded, Kitty joined in.

“Well well, what do we have here?” Puss looked up to see Donkey coming over, his black and white suit pressed and spotless as ever. Behind him were a few more cooks who brought more cupcakes.

“You decided to finally join us?”

“Yeah, I did.” He rubbed his neck.

“Though I’d guess I get why.” He pointed at him with his hoof. “You look fancier than most people here.”

“Donkey.” Puss growled, his cheeks glowing a crimson shade, Kitty laughed. “Ah don’t pick at poor belleza here.” She wrapped her arm around him.

“Alright alright.” He snickers and walks to the table and eats another cupcake. “I’ll hold off until tomorrow.”

Music started to play up, it was soft and slow, many couples started to head to the dance floor. Perrito noticed and poked the two cat’s causing them to look at him. “Hey you two can slow dance together, see.” He pointed to the crowd, the music turned up slightly.

One of Kitty's ears perked up as she looks over to Puss who was already staring at her. “You want to?”

“Sure.”

She moved her paw in front of him, her palm facing up as she bowed in a joking manner. “Would you please have this dance with me madam?” Kitty smirked as she looked up at him, his eyes wide for a second, a blush on his cheeks. He smirked back and placed his paw in hers. “Of course, I’d love nothing less.”

With one good tug she pulled him onto the dance floor, the two boys watching as they danced their way to the center of the room. Kitty led as he followed, his dress swaying. They made it to an open spot, others around them slowly dancing with their partner as they slowly waltzed. The tuxedo cat gave him a small twirl to position him in front of her, the black dress fluffing from the motion.

“Ah-“ he grabbed her shoulders quickly to steady himself as she placed her hands above his hips, the music giving them a rhythm and soon the two began to dance along with the crowd, lost in each other's presence.

“Surprise you?” She laughed, her sharp teeth shined.

“Kinda.” Puss admitted, he gave a soft sigh. “Though I don’t mind this.” His feet moved perfectly along with Kitty’s who looked at him. The two spun slowly, both of their skirts billowing out.

“I see you enjoyed Perrito’s cupcake?”

“So? It was quite delicious.” He blinked and looked at her. “Why?”

“Oh nothing.” She took her right paw and rubbed at the corner of this mouth. “Just that you had some on your face.” He looked away, embarrassment written all over. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” He covered his face with a paw.

“I just noticed honestly.” She returned her paw to his side, continuing with her careful steps. “Nobody noticed I promise.”

“Still, it makes me feel like I look ugh.”

“Oh please.” She swayed them from side to side. “You couldn't be sore on the eyes even if you wanted to.” Puss placed his one paw back on her shoulder.

“You’re just saying that Kitty.” He laughed. “You are very easy on the eyes yourself.”

“I do not lie, you know how I feel about that.” They spun when a part of the song came on that went a bit faster. “You look perfecto. I may have to do some heist soon to get to see you in more fancy dresses.”

“You would?” He blinked as they moved side to side. “I mean Fiona said we’re welcome to get more outfits from her.” He leaned a bit closer. “But you’d want to do that?”

“Of course.” She spun him, watching as his dress bellowed around him. “I would steal the most expensive dress for you. One with many diamonds, a poofy one.”

“A poofy one huh?” Puss chuckled. “You like poofy dresses huh?”

“I won’t lie, I do.” Kitty led them deeper onto the dance floor. “They are very pretty, I’d love to see one on you estimado.”

“Perhaps you will somebody mi amor.” He let her lead him. “After all Fiona has oh so many like that, in white no less.”

That sentence sounded like heaven to her. “I can’t wait querido.” She spun him gently. “Going back to the outfits though, I have an idea.”

“Oh?”

“How about tomorrow night, you and I.” She swayed them to the side, the skirts flowing. “Go on a simple date out in town in these clothes. Maybe go to a restaurant, afterwards we can run around town, maybe spend time alone in the royal garden?”

“That sounds lovely.” Puss purred. “Maybe I could get some gazpacho.” He licked his lips.

“Ugh, you and gazpacho.” Kitty rolled her eyes, blue meeting green again as they waltzed.

“Sí, it’s an amazing dish.” He brought himself closer to her. “Though I think I’d enjoy the whole evening all together, as long as I’m with you.” Kitty swirled them one final time as the music stopped, the two ending with their faces just inches apart, Puss had his arms wrapped around her neck as Kitty’s had hers wrapped around his waist. “Buena, I was hoping you’d say that.”

“Didn’t I say my company was all yours?”

“You did.” Kitty leaned in and bonked her head with his, their noses touched. “I do enjoy having all your attention after all.” The two’s eyes squinted as they laughed, the crowd around them dispersed from each other as they waited for the next song, but not them. They stayed glued to one another, moving away just an inch or two and waited.

“You’re much more comfortable it seems.” Kitty spoke as she looked at the tabby, his eyeliner making his green eyes pop. Puss smiled with a nod. “I am, I felt much better after seeing you. ” The orange tabby’s tail flicked out of the slit of his tug. “I was very happy to see you in this.” He grabbed the green cloth at the neckline and gave it a shake. “I can not get over how charming you look.”

Kitty felt her cheeks darken. “You are smooth darling, smooth.” She pulled him close to her, their tails intertwined. “You are full of compliments tonight.”

“I am not the only one Ms. Softpaws.” He gave a sharp smirk. “You have given me one left and right this evening.”

“How can I not?” The cat swirled them around, her grip on him tight. “Just the sight of you takes my breath away.” Kitty raised an eyebrow, a smirk on her face. Puss raised his eyebrow as well. “I’m sure I do gata.” He smiled. “But oh how you take mine away.” He closed his eyes as he let Kitty hold him in a dramatic pose as if he was going to faint, one hand against his head and the other posed on his chest. “Just one glance at you and I’m gone.”

“Are you trying to one up me?”

“Perhaps.” The music picked back up again, a much more peppy beat. “Why don’t you show me why I shouldn’t?” He pushed away from her, tapping his right foot on the ground, the slit of the dress allowing him full mobility. Puss clapped his paws together, matching the rhythm of the music as he backed up into the crowd. Kitty grinned and followed him, a skip to her steps.

Kitty caught up to him, a hand falling to above his waist and the other grabbing his paw as the two danced to the beat, their steps gracefully missing each other. Puss placed his free paw on her shoulder, the two cats ballroom dancing together. Others around them began to do so as well, some adding their own spice to it and others laughing.

“Does this meet your expectations?” Kitty spoke as she spun them in a slow fashion in a circle over and over again, others doing the same.

“Sí.” He kept up with the spinning, the motion not fast, but steady. “You are always better than what they say.”

The black feline gave a toothy grin, the crowd copying each other as everyone spun their partners around. The two felines staring at each other, no words needed. Puss felt light as air as Kitty spun him around effortlessly, not that it would be difficult for her to do so since she was so strong. Their paws squeezed together, his black painted ones caressing her white fur.

They spun past many marble columns that were decorated at the top, vines falling down a few feet. He looked over Kittys shoulder to see windows, some closed and some opened, showing the outside. Continuing to look he got closer to his partner, practically throwing his entire arm around her neck as they passed another column and that’s when his eyes widened.

Sitting nonchalantly on the huge window sill, the clear doors decorated in beautiful vines and flowers opened, was Muerte. He wore his usual black poncho, his brown pants and the brown arm guards. One leg is propped up on the window sill as the other dangles, the leg touching the floor just slightly. His arms were crossed loosely as his silver fur glistened in the light, the moonshine making him almost glow. The wolf held a small smirk, those red eyes pierced him as they looked at him and him alone.

Puss’s breath was caught in his throat, his fur puffed up slightly which caught Kittys attention who pulled him back to look at him, getting in his line of vision that had been stuck on the wolf grinning at him. “Puss? What’s wrong?”

“Ah-“ he finally focused his eyes on her, the two stopped ballroom dancing. He took a deep breath. “I-I saw.” He stopped and gripped her shoulder tighter, if it hurt her she didn’t say.

“Saw who?”

“Muerte.” He calmed his breathing, his fur calming down. Kitty's eyes narrowed as she looked around, her paw going from his waist to his upper back. “Where?”

“Right behind y-“ he looks where the wolf was previously to only see an empty window, the doors open still. He looked around to see no sign of the lobo, it was as if he had disappeared. Kitty looked over to see nothing.

“He was right there-“

“Did he do anything?” Kitty looked back to her partner, her voice low but serious. There was no reason for her not to trust him.

“No, he was just sitting there, doing nothing.” Puss rubbed his temple. “He just stared at me, smirking.”

Kitty frowned, looking back at the spot green eyes were staring at a second ago, to looking back at him. She separated their paws and took hers to cup his cheek. “Well I won’t let him do anything to you querido.” She rubbed her thumb against his fur. “He may have been admiring how lovely you look tonight, not that you don’t look lovely all the time.”

Puss laughed, a small tear peaked out of his eye which was wiped away by a white fluffy paw. “Do not joke about such things guapa.”

Kitty gave a small chuckle, admiring him as she took his paw again, placing a small kiss on top of it. “Let me get your mind off him then.” The music had picked up again as she pulled him close to her as they spun, catching Puss off guard as she slung him to her right, their paws still connected as she brought him back. He landed back in her arms as they two stepped, Kitty spinning him every so often.

Puss grabbed her shoulder as his other paw was held by the other feline. Their feet matched the music as it seemed to speed up. The two still holding each other's paw twirled from each other only to meet back again, grabbing each other's free paw and their faces only inches apart.

“I prefer music like this.” Kitty tapped her foot against the floor, the two swirling around one another. “Much more my speed.”

Puss spun back around and took Kitty's paw in his, spinning her. “I’d have to agree.” He stepped closer to meet her. “I like things fast paced.”

Kitty regained her bearing and grinned. She took her partner and spun him, his dress flaring out, the glitters catching the light. She caught him in a dip as she towered over him, one of his boots was on the ground holding himself up, the other in the air slightly. She brought him back up in one swift motion as he did a little twirl. She caught his hands and both cats two stepped as they added their own flare to it.

“I forget just how strong you are Kitty.” He stepped closer before stepping back again.

She did the same, her steps repeated over and over again. “That’ll remind you to remember.”

“But what if I forget?” He batted his eyelashes playfully at her. “Why don’t you show me so I won’t forget?”

“My pleasure.” With strong arms Kitty took one of his and pulled them up as they stepped away from each other before going back to their previous position. She took her arms and stepped away from Puss only to spin him a couple of times, the black dress flaring out again. She put one arm around his lower back as the other held his other hand, turning to her side she dipped him.

Puss blinked, green eyes looking up at blue ones, eyelids half lidded. His mouth was slightly open in shock, his sharp teeth barely noticeable. She smirked as a small laugh came out of her mouth.

“Surprised you?”

He blinked and held his head up high. “I expected that.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Sure.” She lifted him back up and spun him from her, the dress ruffling. He landed on his feet steadily and looked at her. “That was a foxy move.” Grinning, he walked up to her and took her paws in his, spinning her with him as he pulled her further onto the dance floor. “Why don’t you show me some more if you're up to it.”

She walked after him, her arm pulled by the tabby. “You don’t even have to ask.” Kitty followed, a smile on her face.

The two twirled right into each other, their hands clasped together as they stared at each other as if nobody else existed. Taking deep breaths they both leaned into one another, big goofy smiles on their lips.

“That was exciting.” Puss laughed, his eyes squinting from his big grin. Kitty shared the same expression. “It was.” She leaned her forehead against his as she took deep breaths. “I hope to do this again tonight.”

“Of course. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“Good.” She smiled and leaned away. “I hate to leave you here, but I do have to use the restroom.”

“No no, I get it.” He leaned up to her and kissed her quickly on her forehead. “I’ll be here waiting for you.” Puss smiled at her, Kitty's face blushing from the contact. “I’ll be quick.” She returned it, leaning towards him and kissing his cheek close to his right eye. It was his turn to flush, his smile uncontrollable. “Take your time, we have all night.”

“Yes, but it’d be criminal of me to leave you here alone for too long amar.” Kitty took his paw in hers and kissed it. “I’ll be back soon.” She bowed to him quickly and waved after she stood back up, moving along the floor, away from the tabby. Puss waved back softly, his cheeks flushed from the gesture, Kitty had always been a flirt like himself, but she was extremely good at it.

Rubbing his face he looked over to the left of him and saw tables full of drinks and a big punch bowl sitting in the center. He smacked his lips together as he walked over there, it had been awhile since he had a drink and he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t thirsty. Approaching the table he took a cup and began to feel it up with the pink liquid, the ladle scooping it up generously.

After a few scoops he took a drink, his throat refreshed. He licked his lips and took another sip. He leaned against the marble column, the stone cool against his hot skin. Puss took another drink as he looked around, the area he was in was devoid of anyone which he was grateful for. Behind him was a corner that could easily hide people if they wished for privacy. He took another sip as he guzzled the last of his drink down, that’s when his ears perked up at something, something so soft.

There was a whistle, a whistle that made his fur puff up, almost dropping his drink as he gripped it and looked around in front of him. No wolf to be found, just normal people dancing and flirting. “Huh?”

Looking around everyone was going about their day as if there was no whistle there. “Am I going crazy?” He looked to his side. “Am I the only one that can hear that?” Puss whispered to himself, pushing himself off the stone and walking around it as he made it to the table. He placed his cup on it, the sound just a tad louder. He walked off to the left towards the corner he saw earlier when he turned his head the same direction and stopped dead in his tracks.

“I was thinking I would have to be more direct gato.”

Puss felt his stomach drop as he stopped, looking up he saw Muerte leaning against the wall near the corner, his grin still present, his arms crossed as his tail slowly wagged.

Puss gulped.

“There is no reason to be scared gatito.” The wolf chuckled. “As intoxicating as your fear is, I am not here to hurt you.”

“Then why are you here?” Green eyes looked up at the entity.

“I had business not far from here.” He pointed a finger out the window towards the town.

”Oh uh.” Puss fumbled on his words, his oranger fur still puffed up. “Were they-“

“No need to worry your pretty little head gato. It was an older woman, she was ready to go.” His red eyes looked out the window. “She was ready to see her family once again.”

Even if it was grim, Puss couldn’t help but give a small smile. “That is good to hear Muerte.”

Death gave a small nod. “Indeed it is.” He looked back down at the cat. “Thought I’d come and see what the legend is up to tonight since I was so close.”

“You knew I was here?”

“I’ve been keeping an eye on you gato.” He nodded. “Ever since the wishing star.”

“Oh?” His ears Instantly laid on his skull, a nervous chuckle leaving his mouth. “Is that so?”

“Mhm.” He leaned against the wall more. “I’ve been around, just not allowing you to see me.”

“Why did you choose now to reveal yourself to me lobo?” Puss cocked his head to this side.

“I wished to is all.” Death smirked. “I do find you interesting gato. You are not boring to me.”

Puss rolled his eyes. “I am happy to know I am entertaining to you.”

Death laughed. “Do not take it as an insult.” His tail swayed some. “Plus I do not think your companion softpaws would be thrilled to see me.”

Puss cringed. “Oh, you heard that?”

Death nodded, Puss waved his paws. “Do not take what she says seriously, she-“ Death held his paw up to instruct him to stop.

“There’s no reason for you to worry about her gato.” The wolf laughed. “I’ve heard much worse, she has a good reason not to like me.” He shrugged his arms, a big grin on his face, his teeth very noticeable. “Does not mean it’s not funny to listen to.”

“Y-you think it’s funny when she talks about you like that?”

“Sí, she is very much protective of you and I do believe in her threats.” He leaned more onto the wall. “I find it amusing is all.”

“Oh well-“

He looked the feline up and down for a second before interrupting. “I see you all are enjoying your night.”

“I am.” Puss looked back the way Kitty had left. “We’ve been having a good time.”

“I've seen.” He pushed himself off the wall as he bent down down to the cat's level as much as he could. “I must say though gatito, you look agraciado tonight.” He gestured to the tabby’s wear. Puss blinked, his face feeling red. “Ah, thank you lobo.”

The wolf nodded. “You all look nice tonight.” Puss walked just a tad closer to him. “I will be around, keep an eye on the party and what not.” He looked to the side. “You know how parties are.”

“Is someone going to-“

“I don’t know.” The wolf looked at the crowd. “I can never tell this early. But what I do know is that you have some trouble tonight.”

“Trouble?”

“Mhm.” He pointed over to a small group of cats, the three cats he met earlier. “Them, though the calico is nobody to stress over, it’s the other two. Especially the gray one.”

“But those are the guys from earlier.” Puss raised an eyebrow. “What are they going to do?”

“Well they’ve been going around messing with other guests, annoying them, forcing some into dancing.” Puss grimaced.

“Wow.” Puss chuckled. “Thank you.”

"Don't get egotistical about it though gato."

Puss laughed. "I won't, I promise."

Death grinned, bowing to the cat as he snickered. Puss placed his paw in front of his face, embarrassment written all over. “Muerte please-“

Death laughed as he stood to his full height. “Like I said, you are an interesting gatito.” He smirked. “Do tell softpaws I said hi. Until we meet again Puss in boots.” He began to whistle, the tone soft and low, the wolf began to disappear in front of his eyes. Puss blinked, running up to him he swiped his paw, it only acted like a cloud of smoke and within seconds he was gone.

“Wow.” He looked at his paws as if he would find the answer there. He leaned back against the wall in a sluggish way, looking up as he scanned the crowd.

“I should probably find Kitty.”

“Hello again, about earlier.”

Puss looked behind him.

‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿

Kitty walked away from the door she just exited, fixing the wrinkles on her clothes as she walked. Passing different hallways before making it back to the dance floor, dodging and making her way around people as she scanned the room. Looking over where she left him was devoid of an orange tabby.

“Where’d you go Puss.”

She looked up the stairs she stood near to see nobody on them. Looking over to the tables they were at earlier was just different fairytale creatures talking to one another. Over by the kitchen's doors was Donkey, his head in the room, Perrito was most likely in the room himself. Blue eyes fell over towards the other side of the room where the windows were and that’s when she spotted burnt orange fur. She walked her way over to the figure and after a few steps she noticed said figure was not alone, but with company. Pushing past some people she could make out the figures better. Puss had his arms to his side, clenched in small fists, his tail slashed at the ground angrily. Across from him was that gray cat from earlier, a smug grin on his face as he held out a paw as an invitation.

“Why that little.” Kitty growled, marching her way up to the two, her own tail slashed. Puss frowned and tried making his way around the guy only to be blocked by him.

“I said no señor.” He bared his teeth. “Now let me by.”

“Why no?” Edwin gave a small frown as he tried to be playful, it only made him look ridiculous. “Is it because of that thief you hang around with?”

“For your information, her name is Kitty Softpaws. Remember it.” He smacked the cat's paw away from him. “And she is my partner tonight and any other night.” He held his head up high and dusted off his dress to get the unwanted dust off of it. “And I’m going to find her and it’ll be best if you don’t mess with me for the rest of the night.” Puss narrowed his eyes at him, bright green dripping with venom. With a sharp turn he walked off, the black dress billowed around him.

“¡¡Ey! ¿Qué está pasando aquí?” Kitty walked fastly over to Puss who was walking towards her. He grabbed her arm and gently tugged her his way.

“Let’s go.”

“Ah-okay.” Kitty looked at his, confusion written all over her face. She looked back at the gray cat who only had a frown.

After a few feet away Puss took his paws, the claw’s unsheathed, and grabbed the sides of his face. “Oo that gato, debería haber golpeado al hombre.”

“Hey hey.” Kitty brought him closer to her. “Do not think of him, he is an mocoso molesto.” She rolled her eyes thinking of the man. “He’s only mad that he does not get to dance with you like I do.”

“As if anyone else could have?”

“True.” Kitty laughed. “You are a lot of work.”

“I know, but I am worth it.” He grinned as she pulled him closer to her by his waist, their foreheads touching as new music started, much faster music than before. Kitty pulled away from him and bowed as she presented her paw. “May I have this dance?”

Puss placed his paw in hers. “Of course.” She pulled him towards her and headed to the dance floor. The two danced around each other, tapping their boots against the marble floor and clapping their paws together. Laughing they twirled in their own circle around each other, clapping to the beat, their skirts flaring around them. The two spun into each other, taking a deep breath, thier paws clasped together.

Kitty took him and twirled him, holding his back as she dipped him only to bring him back up with a quick pull. She grabbed his waist and with one great push she tossed him in the air, Puss gasped, caught by surprise, twirling in the air for a few seconds before falling back into Kittys arms. She caught him by his waist as she held him up in the air, the two grinning widely at each other.

“Oh my stars-“

“Holy Frijoles-“ Puss laughed, Kitty joining as she spun him a few times, still holding him in the air. The black dress swayed along. That was until they heard clapping, looking to the side they saw a small crowd clapping for them, smiles wide on their faces.

“That was amazing you two!” A random woman with beautiful long blond hair spoke.

“Yeah!” A random man yelled from the crowd, his brown hair wild from dancing.

Kitty placed him down on the floor, the two bowed as they were clapped at again. The crowd seems to disperse after that, leaving the two alone again.

“Wow Kitty, I didn’t know you were going to do that-“

“I didn’t know I could do that.” She laughed. “I just felt an urge and- wow.” She looked at Puss. “You didn’t feel uncomfortable by that did you?”

“No!” He shook his head. “I really liked it actually.” He smiled at her. “I wouldn’t mind doing that again, if you wanted.”

Kitty grinned and pulled him closer to her. “As you wish.”

‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿

Puss and Kitty held hands as they walked to the entrance, the wooden doors wide open to let in air as guests came and left.

“I’ll be back.” Puss squeezed her paw once they made it. “I’m gonna get a drink real quick.”

“Okay.” Kitty nodded. “I’ll be out here waiting on you.”

Puss smiled. “I’ll be quick.” He gave her a soft kiss on her cheek making her ears stand up. “After a quick break we can go back to dancing with each other, ¿Sí?”

“Definitely.” The two walked off from each other with a short wave. Kitty turned and made her way out the door and to the side of the castle where she knew a couple of benches were. She grabbed the back of it and before she could sit down that’s when she heard her name being called.

“So Kitty Softpaws is it?” Turning around she saw Edwin from earlier. Talk about spoiled mood.

“Yeah?” She propped herself against the bench, her eyes half lidded. “What about it?”

“Not much of a name huh?”

“You remembered it didn’t you?” Kitty grounded her teeth together. “What’s your issue?”

“My issue is you.”

“Cause you didn’t get a chance to dance with Puss?” She raised an eyebrow.

“Do you know how big it is to dance with the ‘legendary hero’? Yet he chose you.” He took a step closer to her, Kitty frowned. “I dance with him all the time and I get no fame from it.” She internally groaned, this man truly was delusional. “I’m not around him for that, I’m around him for him.”

Edwin laughed. “I doubt that.”

“Excuse me?” Kitty’s tail slashed, now she was starting to get angry. “I’m his partner, I’m around him for his personality unlike you.” She pushed herself forwards. “You can’t take no for an answer after he obviously wants nothing to do with you, you flirt with him when his partner is right in front of you.” She poked him hard in the chest. “And to top it all of you keep harassing him to give you the time of day.”

“Who wouldn’t?”

“Literally anyone.”

Edwin’s eyebrows arched down as she continued. “Get over yourself.”

Kitty had to regain her balance, a paw rubbed against her cheek after the soreness set it. Edwin smirked. “There’s more where that came from.” Kitty growled, rolling up her right sleeve as she went to punch the man in the face only for his head to turn to the side as he fell to the ground unconscious.

“Wha-“

Puss landed on the ground with a huff as Kitty looked up, wiping his hands together and dusting off his dress. His glass was on the ground, discarded and forgotten. His eyes came up to meet Kitty’s whose fist was still in front of him, frozen as she stared at him.

“Puss-“

“ay mi amor, tu mejilla-“ he cupped her cheek only for her to hiss, he backed away as if she had burnt him.

“lo lamento-“

“It's fine querido. As long as we’re fine I’m good.” She rubbed her cheek. “He caught me off guard is all.” Kitty grinned. “Though I gotta give it to you, I didn't know you could do that in a dress.” She winked. “Good kick.”

“We learn something new everyday.” He took her paw and led her back towards the party, away from the injured men. “Let’s enjoy the rest of our night.”

“Alright.” The two walked back into the castle, meeting them at the entrance were two ogres. “I see you two are enjoying the party?”

“Sí princesa.” Puss nodded, his arm wrapped around one of Kittys. “It’s been great.”

“Good.” Fiona smiled and looked at the other feline. “I’m glad you two are having a good time, I was afraid you wouldn’t.”

“I promise you princesa, we are enjoying ourselves very much.” Kitty leaned towards Puss. Shrek chuckled. “That’s good to hear.”

“We’ve heard much about you two tonight, people practically fawning over how you two are with each other.”

“Oh?” Puss looked over to Kitty who shrugged.

“So since you two are popular amongst the crowd here and Me and shrek only wear them cause we have to.” She hummed. “Here.” Fiona took her crown off and placed hers upon Puss’s head, the crystals shining from the lights. “It looks good on you.”

“But princesa-“

“It’s fine Puss.” Fiona chuckled as she took Shreks crown and placed it on Kitty's head. “They look much better on you two than us.”

“I couldn’t agree more.” Shrek laughed. “I hate wearing those things.”

“Take it as your prom king and queen.” Fiona laughed. “It’s definitely not an excuse to not wear them for the rest of the night.

“King and queen huh?” Kitty grinned and looked at Puss, the tiara making him look like royalty. She held out a paw towards him. “Can I have this dance my queen?”

Puss snorted as he took her paw. “Always my king.” The two skipped away towards the dance floor snickering. The two ogres only grinned as they watched the two.

Puss and Kitty both waltzed together, one of their paws clasped together as the other laid on their partner. The crowns on their heads held snug as they sparkled. The two smiled at each other. Kitty swirled him around as she dipped him, leaning over him as their noses touched. Puss had his arm wrapped around her neck as he was pulled closer to her.

“Te amo Puss.”

“yo también te amo Kitty.”

She pulled him closer as she kissed him gently on the lips catching him off guard until he relaxed and kissed back. The two smiled into the kiss and soon pulled away.

“You take my breath away mi amor.” Kitty whispered.

“You do the same to me.” The two giggled, they stared at each other, nuzzling the other's cheek with sweet nothings before pulling away.

“Oh yes I almost forgot.” Puss laughed. “Muerte wanted me to tell you he said hi.”

Kitty blinked. “He what?”

Notes:

If you reached all the way down here I just want to say thank you for reading my fic!

This was my first time writing Death so hopefully he turned out well.

I am not the best at writing dancing scenes lol I edited those parts like crazy.

✨🤍✨

(Edit: I edited a few parts of this chapter, wanted to fix some things so if you’ve read this before it may seem a bit different now.)

Notes:

I finally got chapter one done, this was going to be one whole chapter, but it got to long.

The next chapter will have art at the begging and end ✨ did some art of their outfits.

This was definitely a Kitty centric chapter. Wanted to focus on her at the beginning.

Hope you enjoyed it so far 🤍
