Chapter 8: Monday

Chapter Text

-8 years later-

Polly! Thena! Truce! Dinner’s ready!”

Your shout carried throughout the entire apartment, and you listened. The immediate scuffling of moving feet and excited hubbub told you that the ‘kids’ were coming, and you turned away, satisfied.

“What are we having?”

Phoenix popped up next to you, slinking into the kitchen after hearing the call. You jumped, still startled by his always sudden and lightning-fast appearances, but laughed quietly as he linked his arms around your waist and pulled you into his embrace.

Not ramen.”

“Aw.” He said this jokingly, pulling back away from you, peering into the dishes and bowls you’d prepped. He stuck his finger into a sauce, tasting it thoughtfully, and then yelped loudly when you smacked him.

“Don’t touch it!” You tsked disapprovingly, bustling around the small room, pulling plates and bowls and cutlery with you. The agency’s small kitchen room was no match for the growing family, and you struggled to fit food on the table. Phoenix reached out and stopped you as you held a handful of spoons, grasping your arm.

“Thanks.”

“For what, cooking? It’s not a problem. It’s my job, with you four running all over the place, solving crimes and yelling at people in the court room.” You rolled your eyes with a laugh, pulling your arm, but he didn’t let go. Instead, he reeled you in closer, bridging the gap between his body and yours.

“No. Thank you for not leaving.”

You blinked a few times before a smile spread across your face. Warmth radiated from him — you felt it throughout your entire being— and you leant forwards. You gave him a kiss. It was short, but your message carried through. You pulled away slowly before grinning at him cheekily.

“You’ve got a soup stain on your tie.”

Leaving him muttering obscenities, you managed to lay out the table in time for your adoptive family to squeeze their way into the claustrophobic space. They bickered and even shouted a few times, Apollo’s ‘chords of steel’ really coming into play. Clangs of cutlery against bowls and arguments over sausages filled the room quickly, until it faded back away into the background. You rested back onto the counter as they ate ravenously, smiling to yourself gently as Phoenix came up to your side again, a water stain replacing the orange one that had been present before.

“No, Phoenix. I’m glad I didn’t leave.”

He looked at you before encircling your waist again, pulling you and holding you close. There was only a second of silence before he spoke to you, because there was no such thing as quiet or rest in the Wright Anything Agency.

“Hey, so I’ve got this case, and I’d like you to be by my side during court, if that’s okay with you Mrs. Wright. Help with documents and your pretty, beautiful face is all I need to get through.”

“Oh, I can certainly do that, Mr. Wright. When is it?”

“Tuesday.”

“Then, I guess I’ll see you on Tuesday.”
