Chapter Text

The Red Force prepared to depart at dawn.

Shanks stood near the Sunny, hands in his pockets, gaze lingering on the Straw Hats one by one.

Luffy was still resting, Chopper refusing to let him move more than necessary.

Shanks handed Nami a small Den Den Mushi, its shell a familiar red. “If he’s in danger,” he said evenly, “you call. No matter where I am.”

Nami accepted it with both hands. “…Thank you.”

Zoro met Shanks’ gaze. “We’ll protect him.”

Shanks smiled faintly. “I know.”

Ace’s departure came soon after.

Whitebeard’s crew gathered at the shore, their massive ships waiting patiently. Ace paused before leaving, pulling a Den Den Mushi from his pocket and pressing it into Usopp’s hands.

“For emergencies,” Ace said gruffly. “Or if he does something stupid again.”

Usopp nodded furiously. “Y-Yes, sir!”

Ace glanced back once more toward the shelter, jaw tight. “…Take care of him.”

“We always do,” Sanji replied quietly.

Ace turned, flames flickering briefly as he stepped onto Whitebeard’s longboat.

INTERLUDE: Teeth Beneath the Smile

Blackbeard laughed when the news reached him.
Not the wild, careless laugh he usually gave the world — this one was slower, thoughtful, sharp around the edges.

“Still alive,” he mused, fingers tapping against the arm of his chair. “Zehahaha… that boy’s stubborn.”

Van Augur adjusted his rifle. “Two emperors intervened.”

Blackbeard’s grin widened, teeth gleaming in the dim light. “Good.”

His eyes darkened, something cold and hungry settling behind them. “Means he’s worth breaking properly next time.”

He leaned back, shadows crawling across the room like living things.

“Let him heal. Let him dream.”

The laugh that followed was quieter.

“I’ll be waiting.”

Days later, Luffy stood.

Not without pain. Not without shaking.

But he stood.

He faced the open sea, fists clenched, scars aching beneath his skin.

“I won’t lose like that again,” he said softly.

The Straw Hats gathered behind him, steady and unbroken.

The Thousand Sunny caught the wind.

Somewhere far away, a monster smiled.

But hope sailed forward anyway.

And the sea — vast, patient, and eternal — carried them on.
