Chapter Text

The first time Kit and I went out without the twins, Kit was sheepish about where we were going and nervous about leaving the twins with Jean. But this was apparently something we had to do.

That involved going to the flats on Barb Street, and visiting the flat with the lotus doorknob.

“I’m not surprised you know people who live here.” I said to Kit as I looked at the door knob. “Are you sure this is the right place?”

Kit laughed as she knocked on the door. “Love, you’ve known him for years.”

“Really?” Bailey asked as he opened the door.

“Who else would I bring as a plus one?” Kit replied, as she held up a bag. “Besides, we brought snacks and wine.”

“She’s playing.”

“Play what?” I ask as I lean a bit to look past Bailey, and into the snake themed room beyond.

“Poker.” Kit answered.

I sat nervously at the table with Blair, Bailey and the new Mayor around the table, while Bailey was dealing everyone in. My wife on the other hand was pouring everyone drinks and plating the snacks.

The mayor gave me a look. “So she’s the one who…”

“Yes.” I responded nervously.

“And you are?” He continued.

“Her top.” Briar replied for me.

The mayor nodded.

“Why isn’t Kit playing?” I asked.

“She counts cards.” Bailey replied, before sipping from a shotglass. I wasn’t going to tell them I was the one who taught her.

“Besides, this is more fun.” Kit replies from the kitchen.

I had a terrible run and tried to make the best of it, as my wife cleaned elsewhere around the apartment.
“So, how did Avery manage to fumble a girl like that?” The Mayor asked, currently trying not to stare as my wife dusted the mirror in front of him.

“She never liked him.” I responded. “Kit needed his money, but he thought she needed him. Big difference.”

Kit replied from the window. “He wouldn’t take the twins and he had the worst taste in wine. I think I had to drink a whole bottle of prosecco every Sunday. And then the temper!”

“I thought he was nicer than that? He was quite charming when I met him.” The mayor replied before throwing some more chips in.

“Avery was as two-faced as the rest of his cabal.” I replied, as I felt a snake slither past my leg.

“The man was a snake.” Briar said as she folded.

Kit then reached down below the table, and picked something up before speaking to it. “Yes, I know it’s an unfair comparison, and she should apologize."

Watching Briar and the mayor’s reactions as my wife held a corn snake wrapped around her arm in front of them was priceless.

It took Briar a moment to compose herself before she actually did apologize, and then my wife left us alone to go sit with the snake.

“Why do you even have a snake?” The mayor asked Bailey.

“Pest control.” Bailey replied before revealing a royal flush.

“Then why not get a cat?” Briar asked.

“They’re messy, and leave remains.” Bailey continued, raking the chips towards himself.

Eventually the night edges toward conclusion.

“One more round, it’s getting late and I have places to be.” Bailey said.

“Might as well make it interesting then.” Briar replies as she throws a wad of cash on the table.

The mayor follows.

“I don’t have that kind of cash on me.” I reply, even as I see Kit perking up from the corner of my eye.

Bailey just shoves his winnings in.

“You have Kit.” Briar points out.

“Last time anyone put Kit in the pot she burned down a skyscraper and made me cover it up.” Bailey said before I had a chance to reply.

Kit tossed me a bracelet in response. Looking at it, it was gold and diamonds, something she definitely could not have afforded on her own. I put it in the pot.

About ten minutes later, Briar was admiring her new bracelet while counting her cash and packing up.

I went over to Kit, and scratched the back of my head nervously. “I’m sorry I lost your bracelet.”

Kit waved her hand dismissively even as she kept clearing the table. “Luv, Avery got it for me, and I can always buy another.” She replied. “Better that than you going home with Briar or the mayor like I used to.”

“Wait, they used to gamble you?” I replied.

“Weirdest confidence boost I ever got.” Kit replied, nodding.

“What else haven’t you told me?” I asked, concerned.

“The twins' father might be Leighton?” Kit replied. “Either him, or probably Kylar.”

“Your stalker?” Bailey asked from the kitchen.

“He wasn’t my stalker at the time!” Kit replied, “Anyway, Bailey, do you want the leftovers?”

“No, I don’t want your leftovers. I want you out so I can get to work.” Bailey replied.

“Wizard! We’ll see you around then.” Kit replied, as she dragged me out the door.

Notes:

It's a poker date. Robin's doing other stuff aside from being a leech, but it didn't come up here. She's in Uni or something now, and streaming or w/e. Don't think about it too much. It's also first person because Robin isn't a disassociating bottom of a psychopath.

Everyone else from the poker game is dead or in prison (like you think Quinn wouldn't come up in the inquiry?), so Bailey is scraping for some people to fill in, and is definitely blackmailing the new mayor as well.

Notes:

It’s inspired by a play through I just had where after escaping from the farm, Avery’s Mansion event fired on my due date. Needless to say much anger will be had.

Also Player is pretty big because I like my girls Amazonian, and it works for later events.
