Chapter Text

Toshinori was sure that if looks could kill he’d be dead five times over by now. After the whole announcement in the infirmary Aizawa had made it known that he was one second away from gutting him where he stood. It had taken a lot of negotiation to get him to even see his point of view. But even with that there had been some very harsh limitations to this...like right now for instance.

He was going to die here. Sitting across from him were both the Bakugous and Inko Midoriya. He gulped as Masaru narrowed his eyes at him, the usually calm man looking murderous right about now.

“I’m sorry, could you please explain that again, All Might-san?” the brunette male asked.

“Ah, of course...I am in need of assistance from both of your-”

“We heard that, All Might-san.” Inko interrupted, her large eyes also narrowed at the large hero.

It was comical really. All Might in his muscular form sitting in a clearly too small loveseat, with three parents sitting across from him on a lovely couch. Ah, and did I mention that Masaru and Inko-the two most soft spoken and polite of the three-were looking at him like they wanted to murder him.

He was getting that look a lot lately.

“I...need to take your sons away for about a month for specialized training.” He informed.

“Yes, we heard that as well.” Masaru stated.

Mitsuki sighed, seeing that this wasn’t going anywhere. She reached for the tea on the table and took a sip, her eyes never leaving the hero,

“What they are asking is where are you taking our brats and why.” she clarified.

The blond man’s antenna twitched and he rubbed the back of his head. Damn Aizawa for making this one of the stipulations that needed to be met before he could whisk the two teens off to go train.

“Ahem...I don’t know if you’re aware...but UA usually has a sports festival once a year and it’s a time for students to show off their skills for all of Japan to see.” he began, sitting up straighter. “This is an event where there will be scouts and sponsors alike to find individuals they deem worthy to join their agencies and where pro-heroes look to find apprentices.”

The three parents nodded, happier that there was an explanation finally. But that did not answer their biggest question.

“All Might-san, you’ve avoided the question three times now.” the bespectacled male leaned closer, glaring at the hero. “Why are you taking our boys away? Are the other students also getting special treatment?”

Bakugou got his observation skills from his father it would seem.

“I will be blunt, Bakugou-san...your two sons are very special. Both possess very strong quirks that need immediate molding so they would stop hurting themselves. Our principal has moved the event back a whole month after what happened during USJ and he implored that we used this time to help young Midoriya and young Bakugou better their quirks.” he explained quickly. He felt awful for lying to the man. They were all just worried about their kids and here he came promising to better them when really he was risking their lives.

“Are our boys being threatened out of a chance to perform in the sports festival?” the green eyed woman asked cautiously. The mere thought did bring a sense of dread to her. Both Izuku and Katsuki had trained so hard to get where they were and if that was being snatched from them because they couldn’t use their quirks correctly….that just wasn’t fair.

“No, of course not! It’s just a concern for their well being!”

All three of the parents leaned back and sighed in relief.

“Well why didn’t you just fucking say that?! You came in here like you were going to break their bodies!” Mitsuki joked, laughing with her husband and best friend.

All Might had to hide a flinch at that. That was literally what was going to happen to them and he had to force out a laugh to not seem suspicious.

“Not at all! Can I consider that a yes?”

“Of course All Might-san. Apologies for coming off so harshly.” the other male said softly and rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment,

“None needed! You were all just worried about that and that’s understandable. I admire your love and trust in your sons!”

“When will you be taking them off to train?”

“About that,”

______

Aizawa glared over at All Might, taking joy in how uncomfortable the hero seemed to be from the look. Good, serves him right for what he was going to do to two of his students!

They both looked up when they heard two sets of footsteps walking towards them. Bakugou and Midoriya made their way towards the two teachers, their suitcases trailing behind them.

“Young Midoriya, young Bakugou, nice to see you two! Are you ready for this month of training? It will be all might!” the blond hero threw his head back with a laugh and gave the two teens a thumbs up.

Izuku grumbled, but really he was just as excited as his companion. As soon as his mother had told him that All Might had come and requested to train him he had been over the moon. He was slightly confused about why Bakugou was there as well but shrugged it away. All Might was going to train them!

“W-we are very excited All Might! Thank you for offering to t-train us!” the blond said quickly with a smile. This was a dream come true! They were going to train for the sports festival with the pillar of hope himself!

“Good! I will make sure you two are more than ready for the festival next month!” he promised with a grin.

The raven haired male elbowed All Might in the side with a glare.

“OUCH! R-right! Let us be on our way!”

‘This is either going to be a huge mistake or a huge miracle. Either way, he better not kill those two.’

___________

Toshinori walked behind the two teens, watching them closely. Midoriya carried himself with confidence and strength; it was very evident that he trained both his mind and body regularly. Bakugou-surprisingly-was also buff, although he lacked the kind of confidence his green haired companion did. He instead had overly calculating eyes that seemed to always be looking around for some sort of plan for any given situation. This made at least a part of this easy.

He had taken the teens up to a cabin in the mountains to train. He couldn’t risk anyone seeing what was going on. The beach would have been perfect, but with news of the villains snooping around for any form of weakness from the heroes he just couldn’t risk it. Once they had gotten out of the van and walked inside he had told the boys to meet him in the living room to go over some ground rules.

No turning back now.

Luckily for him the couch was facing away from the stairs and that gave him all the time he needed to get this show on the road.

Bakugou turned when he heard the stairs creak and opened his mouth to greet All Might. But his voice got stuck in his throat when he saw a very clearly scrawny blond man with sunken in eyes staring at him. His hand shook as he pointed at him, his eyes wide in confusion.

“Oi, Kacchan, what are you looking at-WHO THE HELL’RE YOU?!” Midoriya jumped up when he noticed the man behind him.

“Now, now, young Midoriya; no need to raise your voice. We’re all allies here-”

“HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?!”

“W-where’s All Might?!”

Oh dear...this wasn’t going to end well.

“What do you mean? It’s me, ALL MIGHT-GAH!!!”

The hero had transformed into his muscular form to show that he was indeed All Might, but was forced out of it when blood spewed from his mouth and onto the floor.

There was a beat of silence before both teens were screaming their heads off.

“H-HOW THE HELL DID YOU CHANGE LIKE THAT?! IS THIS SOME OTHER QUIRK YOU’VE GOT?!”

“Y-YOU’RE BLEEDING! O-O-OH GOD, WE’RE IN THE MOUNTAINS!!! HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET HIM TO THE HOSPITAL!?”

How had he made this situation worse than it already was?! It took twenty minutes for him to calm both teens down and to assure Bakugou that no, he was not going to keel over and just die. Yes, he was used to this happening to his body. No this was not a second quirk he had. Now both teens were sitting across from him and staring at him in shock.

“U-um...excuse me...All Might…”

“Yes, young Bakugou?”

“H-how...um...I’m sorry if this comes off as rude…”

“Not at all, ask away.”

“How are you….like this?”

“I’m glad you asked! Let me explain this to you boys!”

All the cheer left his voice as he reached for his shirt and lifted it, showing off the horrific wound on his right side. Both teens flinched back at the sight of it.

“Five years ago a villain did this to me.” he started grimly. “My respiratory system was nearly destroyed. My stomach was removed. My body has deteriorated because of these surgeries. I used to be able to do my hero work for three hours a day.”

“Used...to?”

“That is correct. My time limit’s getting shorter and shorter as the days go on. I can barely maintain my other form for an hour. At the rate I’m going I won’t be able to keep going and will have to retire.”

Both teens froze at that, their faces pale. It felt like ice had been dumped onto them. All Might was literally dying. His body was strained each and every time he went to go and save people. And he had come to rescue them when that sludge bastard had attacked them. Was that when he was at a three hour limit or had his time been longer?

“I have brought you two here because I am in need of your help. I am sorry that I had to lie to you and your parents.” he bowed his head at that.

“Need our help?” Bakugou whispered in confusion.

“The hell you mean you lied to us?” Midoriya hissed in confusion.

Toshinori took a deep breath and looked deep into their eyes. He had to make sure they understood the gravity of the situation and just what was being asked of them. Of...two fifteen year olds….

“My quirk was passed down to me.”

“W-WHA-?!”

He held up his hand to stop them from interrupting him. “As I said, my quirk was passed down to me. I have the ability to pass down this power. For the quirk I inherited is called One For All! One person gets the quirk and makes it stronger, and then it gets passed onto another who will make it better and pass it on. That way, those who are crying out to be saved and those with brave and true hearts link to form a crystalline network of power!” the pro-hero stood and looked down at the two shocked teens before him.

“I have been searching high and low for one that could be worthy enough to become the heir of One for All. And the one that is truly worthy is you,” his finger pointed out and landed right on Bakugou.

Bakugou’s breath hitched and his eyes widened.

“N-no, Izu would be a better successor All Might! He is far braver and stronger than me!” he cried out quickly.

“What the hell?! All Might tells you that you’ve been chosen to become his successor and you’re going to tell him he’s wrong?!” Midoriya jumped up and stared at his friend in disbelief. What was this idiot saying?

“That cannot be right! You’ve worked so hard, you are more deserving of this!”

“Stop cutting yourself short, you dumbass! You work harder than all those extras, you plan ahead of me! You’re the nice one, so of course you’re fit to be it!”

“Izu is nice too! You’ve been nothing but kind to me since we’ve met! You’re the real hero here! All Might, please pick Izu instead!” he begged. A yelp left him as he was pushed back onto the couch by the shorter male.

“No, give it to this idiot-WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING?!”

All Might’s laughter bounced off the walls of the cabin. He couldn’t believe these two. He had just told them how dire the situation was and they were fighting over who was more deserving of One For All.

“Boys, boys, you didn’t let me finish. Both of you will be my successor.”

“H-HAH?!”

___________

Midoriya huffed as he ran his 100th lap up the mountain path. It had been three weeks after All Might had dropped the bomb of the century onto their heads. Now they were training their bodies even more just to make sure that the damn quirk didn’t literally tear them apart. He could see why the pro had to lie to their parents now. There was no way in hell they’d agree to this if they knew that their literal lives were on the line. Green eyes flicked over to Bakugou, who was busy pushing a giant log over to a pile of them.

They had to train their bodies, but All Might wanted it to be without their quirks. He said afterwards they’d work on working One For All and their quirks together without killing themselves. They had been in this routine for three weeks straight. Wake up at dawn, eat breakfast, rush out to push their bodies to their limits and then some, go back inside, eat, bathe, and pass the hell out. They were either running from their camp to the bottom of the mountain and back, pushing large logs with their strength alone, try swimming upstream, and clear out boulders. The first few days had been hell for the two teens.

All Might was a slave driver with their training; demanding they add more weights to their limbs as they ran, giving them heavier and heavier boulders to try and push across a clearing, cutting the pieces of logs bigger and bigger and pushing the pile they had to transfer them to further and further away, making the swim up river harder by adding weights and so on. He always apologized at the end of the day for having to push them so hard, for asking them to do this. And each and every time they’d tell him that it was fine, that they understood the risks and were willing to do whatever was needed to insure that justice prevailed and innocent people were kept safe.

Because that was the job of a hero. To grit through the pain, to constantly get knocked down and get up again, and save the day with a smile.

“Boys, meet me in front of the cabin!” Toshinori called from the trail leading back to their sleeping quarters.

Both teens huffed as they finished the last of their training, Izuku quickly helping Bakugou with the last few logs, and rushed to meet the pro-hero. Was he going to add onto their training regimen? Was he going to finally have them spar? They were so excited, having been taking in any and all the knowledge All Might had to give and soaking it up like a pair of sponges.

The hero watched as they trotted over, looking like two excited puppies as they stopped in front of him. Focus, Toshi, don’t let their cuteness distract you!

“You boys have been working hard these last 3 weeks! Your performance without your quirks has improved and so has your stamina and bodies. I believe it’s time to move onto the next step!”

“W-what’s the next step?” Bakugou asked, leaning a bit closer with Midoriya silently doing the same.

“It is time for you two to train with One For All!”

….

“R-REALLY?!”

“FUCKIN’ FINALLY!”

Excited puppies, that’s all he saw as he watched the two of them high five each other and grin. He cleared his throat and they snapped back forward and gave him their undivided attention again.

“Yes, it’s time to pass on One For All so we can get through the more serious part of your training.” he clenched his fists and looked down at them. “I will ask you one more time, are you two ready to take on this responsibility? Once we do this there is no turning back. You are taking on the burden to continue to carry the torch of justice and keep everyone safe. Can you honestly do this?”

Midoriya gulped, clenching his fists as well. This was it. All Might was giving them one more chance to back out, to stay teenagers that were just trying to graduate UA and become heroes. There would be no torch to carry, there would be no becoming the dual pillars of hope once All Might finally had to step down. Green eyes met crimson and they both nodded.

“We accept this responsibility, All Might.” the blond teen answered.

“Like hell we’d run away. We’re not fucking cowards.” Izuku added with a feral grin.

The pro-hero smiled, nodding his head. They were ready.

“In order to pass on One For All...”

Bakugou and Midoriya leaned closer.

“There is only one thing you two need to do…”

Here it comes! They were going to get One For All and help him keep innocent civilians safe!

“Eat this.”

They stared at the two strands of hair that All Might was holding in front of their faces. They blinked slowly and looked up at him, waiting to see if this was some form of joke. He couldn’t be serious...right?

“H-huh?”

“Doesn’t matter what, as long as it’s my DNA!”

Midoriya grabbed Bakugou’s arm and started to back up, the look on his face morphing into one of pure disgust.

“Young Midoriya why are you looking at me like that?! Why are you backing away from me?!”

“You...you creep.”

Creep...

Creep...

Creep...

Creep…

Blood flew out of his mouth at the insult, like it had physically hurt him. Why’d the kid have to go and say that?! It wasn’t his fault that this was the only way to pass on the quirk!

“I AM NOT A CREEP! NOW EAT MY HAIR!!”

“GET AWAY FROM US!!"
__

Bakugou rubbed at his throat, still feeling odd after willingly swallowing that strand of hair. It took a lot of convincing from All Might to get Midoriya to even let him near the two. He looked over at his friend and sweat dropped when he saw the most distrustful look still present on his face. Hopefully this hadn’t made him lose respect for All Might.

He flexed his hands, not really feeling much of a difference in his body after consuming his hair. Was it supposed to take some time? Was it supposed to be instantaneous? Crimson orbs flicked over to Midoriya, watching as the shorter male flexed his own hands with a scowl. So he didn’t feel anything either?

“What’s the matter boys? You don’t feel anything?” All Might questioned, his body slowly turning into the muscular form. A bright grin was on his face, however, his eyes were blazing blue as he watched them. A chill went down their spine at that look.

“One For All isn’t just going to activate because you consumed it. It must be awakened.” he informed them slowly.

“How do we do that?” the blond teen asked.

“Follow me.”

Both males looked at each other before following after the hero towards the clearing where they pushed boulders. What were they going to do here? The hero held up a hand to stop them and kept walking forward towards the giant pile of boulders of various sizes.

“Boys, we only have a month to get you accustomed to One For All. I know it’s not enough time and I am sorry for that. Consider this a crash course of sorts.”

“Crash course?” Izuku muttered in confusion. His eyes grew wide as he watched All Might grab one of the ‘smaller’ boulders and turned towards them with his signature grin.

“You will have to activate One For All to make it out of this unscathed. I apologize again. Please refrain from using your quirks to do this.”

“Don’t...use our quirks?”

“We’ll keep this up until you both awaken it. Grit your teeth.”

That was the only warning the boys were given before he launched the boulder at the two of them. It was only years of training and their new exercises that they were even barely able to dodge it by the skin of their teeth. Twin looks of horror turned back to the large blond man, disbelief clear in their eyes. All Might launched another boulder, bigger and faster than last time.

They were going to die!

  ___

The days flew by, the boulders kept coming. Toshinori felt like he was holding back as best as he could. He didn’t want to rush them like this, he didn’t want to put them in danger. Every failed dodge, every failed block, every misstep, every yelp of pain, every time they passed out exhausted; it made his stomach drop. They started this at the beginning of the month and now it was the middle of the month. He could see that they were getting slightly discouraged by how long it was taking them to get the quirk to comply; which he made sure to combat by letting them work on their own quirks in their own time. They were strictly informed to stay on opposite sides of the forest so that they could have their privacy.

If there wasn’t the sounds of trees being destroyed by boulders, there was the loud echoing crashes of explosions and the crunching sound of rocks and trees being bent at will. Both of the teens were battered and bruised in front of him, having just finished their own personal training. The hero decided that the best time to train their new quirk was to get them when they were barely standing from their own intense training. Small boulders were replaced by much larger ones. Drastic times called for drastic measures.

“Boys, we’re going to try something new today.” he started as he hefted the smallest boulder of the bunch over his head. “You are no longer dodging these. You are lifting them.”

Lifting those boulders? How would that get them to activate their quirk?

“Young Bakugou, please kneel in front of me.”

Said blond gulped as he walked forward and knelt before the hero. Before he could ask what else he needed the boulder was dropped onto his shoulders, nearly toppling him over. Bakugou hissed as he struggled to keep it from crushing his neck, the veins in his arms bulging.

“Oi! What the hell’re you doing?!” Midoriya cried out. Was he trying to kill him?! He was exhausted for fuck sakes!

“We have to up the training, my boy.” he informed as he placed another boulder on top of the one that the struggling teen was holding. Bakugou felt like he was going to vomit as his body sunk further into the dirt.

“Stop! There’s no way he can fucking lift those!!”

“He’s going to have to. And you’re going to have to keep him safe until he does.”

“W-what?”

A larger boulder was forced onto the stack. The blond wheezed, sweat pouring down his face. He gritted his teeth, his arms trembled along with his legs. What was All Might doing?

“Young Midoriya, your job is to stand in front of him and keep the rest of the boulders from hitting him. You cannot dodge or he will get hit and will get crushed by those boulders. Young Bakugou, if you fail to lift those boulders he will be forced to stay and block the boulders.”

He couldn’t be serious!

“You are both the only thing that can keep the other safe.”

Midoriya felt bile rise in his throat as he watched his friend struggle to try and lift himself up, only to stagger. Shit, he was going to get crushed! He quickly took his place in front of him, trying his hardest to hide the fear on his face.

“Do your fucking worse! I won’t back down!” the green haired teen snarled, unaware that he was trembling. He could do this, no, he had to do this. He had to keep Bakugou safe, he had to!

Bakugou bit his lip as he watched All Might launch the first round of boulders, his eyes widening at the speed behind each one. Midoriya cursed as he tried to cover as much of his friend as he could and also protect himself. One boulder slammed into his leg, forcing a hiss of pain from him as his knee buckled. Dear god, that hurt so fucking much! With a snarl he got back up for the next volley. He could hear Bakugou struggle to lift the boulders, hearing his desperate attempt to put an end to this madness. Each time he tried his body would fight against him and try to collapse on itself.

‘Hurry, hurry. I can’t let Izu keep getting hurt because of me! Lift, dammit, lift!’

Another grunt of pain left the greenette as another boulder crashed into his body; making him stagger.

‘Do your worst, bastard. I won’t let you lay a damn hand on him!’

Another strike, another failed attempt to rise up. Another cursed wheeze, another sloppy attempt to stand up. They couldn’t fail, they had to do this. They had to protect the other!

‘I need to protect him, I need to protect him, I need to protect him!!’

All Might picked up the largest boulder and bit his lip. This was necessary. He had to do this. He threw it, the regret already eating at him at how hard he had thrown it.

‘Please, activate.’

Time slowed down for the two teens. The dark shadow of the boulder loomed over them as it arced through the air and headed straight for them. Both of the males looked on in growing horror as it started to descend. If that hit them they’d be crushed for sure.

‘I can’t move...I have to protect Kacchan. I have to protect him!’

‘If I don’t lift these boulders...Izu will die!’

‘I can’t let him die, I can’t let him die!’

‘Move...move….PLEASE MOVE!!!’

Something seemed to snap to life in both of them as the boulder got closer and closer. Lightning seemed to flash in their eyes as the need to protect the other roared through them. Midoriya narrowed his eyes and reared back his fist; while Bakugou dug his heels into the ground. With a roar the greenette punched forward, his fist colliding with the impending danger. At the same moment, the blond teen let out a ferocious cry as he lifted up, launching the boulders at the much larger bolder; the smaller ones piercing through it.

Cracks formed in the stone before it exploded, dust and debris sailing high into the air and away from them. They stood there with wide eyes, watching the remnants of the boulder crash all around them. They did it….they used One For All…

They didn’t even get to celebrate their success before their bodies finally gave out. Their eyes rolled back, their knees buckled, and they tipped forward. All Might was there to gently catch the now unconscious bodies of the two children. He stared down at their bruised faces in both amazement and pride. They did it.

‘Sensei...you’d be so proud of them. I know I am.’

__

“WHOA! BAKUBRO WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR ARM?!”

The blond in question jumped in surprise when Kirishima ran forward and grabbed his arm in shock. He had a few nasty scars on it from all the failed dodging during their time with All Might. And since they didn’t have Recovery Girl nearby they had to just let their body work on the healing process. Really they saw the scars as proof that they were worthy to use One For All.

“O-oh...um...I had a few mishaps while training.” he stuttered out.

“A few mishaps?! Were you fighting a shark or something?” Denki questioned as he leaned in closer to see as well.

“I hope it healed alright. That really looked like it hurt.” Mina stated, the other girls crowding over to see the scars on his arms. Denki whined as he was pushed out of the way by them.

“It’s alright! I-I just see this as proof that I got stronger.” he admitted with a shy smile.

“Wow, how manly!” Kirishima praised.

“Oi! What are you damn extras doing surrounding Kacchan like that? Buzz off!” Midoriya shouted as he slammed his fist on his desk. These idiots were way too loud for the first day back from a month of training!

“So this is Class 1-A?”

Everyone stopped and looked towards the doorway, seeing a sea of eyes peering in at them. The hall was crowded by students as far as the eye could see.

“Eh? You can’t be serious...what’s going on? Why are they all here?” Uraraka questioned, uneased by the amount of people there.

“Tsk, isn't it clear? They’re sizing us up.” Midoriya answered as he stood up and headed to the door with a scowl. “Word travels fast. We’re the kids that survived a villain attack. But that doesn’t matter, you’re all stepping stones in my path.” it came out as a snarl.

“I-Izu, you can’t call them that!” the blond said with a sigh, coming up behind his friend. Why did he have to go and say things like that? Now people were glaring at them.

“Are you really a hero?” a teen with purple hair asked as he made his way through the crowd lazily. “That’s not a hero attitude at all. Are you all so prideful?” he questioned.

“I don’t speak for the rest of these idiots. This is my declaration to all of you losers.” Midoriya had a dark grin on his face, a wave of unease flowing through everyone. “You get in my way and I’ll crush you with all of my might. I don’t care who I have to go through to win. Now, get the fuck outta my way eye bags.” he shoulder checked the teen and forced his way through the crowd.

“D-dude! You’re making everyone hate us!” Denki cried.

“Why should I give a damn? I’m gonna claw my way to the top. Get your dumbass head in the game. Kacchan, hurry up.” he turned and headed down the hall.

“Ah…”

Everyone turned to the flustered blond who had his hands up in a sign of peace. Dammit, he always had to play translator for Izuku.

“I-I’m sorry, he’s just really excited. Please don’t take his words seriously…” he stuttered before trotting after the greenette.

___

Everyone bustled and made their way to their class’s designated prep room after they changed into their gym uniform. Class 1-A ignored Iida’s cries to make sure they were all ready and presentable for when they headed out. Midoriya sat next to Bakugou stretching his arms above his head with a huff. He gave a sideways glance when he heard footsteps coming towards him. Todoroki was standing there with a pensive look on his face.

“What the hell do you want?” he grouched.

“You’ve got a pretty bad personality and a big mouth.” the half and half teen started.

“HAH?!”

“You talk a big game and I want to make sure you’re aware that I have every intention of knocking you off that pedestal. I will beat you.” he declared.

The room fell silent, tension high in the air. Kirishima, ever the nice guy, placed a hand on the standing teen with an awkward chuckle.

“C’mon man, we’re all friends here. There’s no need to start a fight.”

Todoroki snatched his shoulder from his grasp. “I’m not here to pretend to be friends with anyone. I am here to win.”

“Well tough shit.”

Midoriya stood up, his posture lazy and uninterested. He didn’t even seem like he gave a damn about the clear declaration of war given by his classmate.

“You’re not even on my radar. In fact, you’ve never been a threat to me. The only one here that I’m worried about is Kacchan.” he stated with nasty grin. “Why don’t you go run off to your daddy and stop wasting my time.”

“Why you-!”

“STUDENTS! PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE DESIGNATED OPENING AREA!”

___

“HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY~! IT’S TIME FOR UA’S SPORTS FESTIVAL! THE TIME OF YEAR WHERE OUR BABY HEROES DUKE IT OUT IN A BATTLE ROYAL!” Present Mic’s voice echoed throughout the massive stadium. “ COMING OUT IS AN IMPRESSIVE GROUP OF STUDENTS! THAT’S RIGHT, THE CLASS THAT TOOK ON A GROUP OF VILLAINS; CLASS 1-A!!!”

The class walked out, blinded by the bright lights and the screams of the people in the stands. Jeez, this place was massive and so full. The cheering nearly knocked them on their ass.

“Such a huge crowd…” Hagakure muttered.

“We’re expected to put on our best performance for such a huge crowd. I guess this is to get us ready for a huge audience when we become heroes.” Iida stated.

Everyone’s attention was brought back by a sharp crack of a whip. Standing on a stage was the R-rated hero Midnight with a grin on her face. Some of the male students blushed at the sight of her costume.

“Alright pups, today your student representative is Bakugou Katsuki of Class 1-A! Please come up and give the athlete’s oath!” she announced, her whip pointing at the startled blond.

“Hah?! W-why me?!” he cried, backing away to hide behind Midoriya. There was no way he could do this! He couldn’t go up there and give a speech, he’d die!

“Bakugou Katsuki, please come up here.” Midnight said.

“T-there’s no way..there’s no way...Izu, please save me.” he begged.

Midoriya looked back into pleading crimson orbs and rolled his eyes. Damn nerd could be so cute when he was too scared to do something.

“Fine, I got it. Damn baby.” he said before he raised his hand. “He can’t do it. I’ll do it in his place.”

Midnight pouted but nodded, waving the short teen forward. The greenette made his way up to the microphone with a lazy gait. He looked bored as he stared down at the sea of students. Bakugou smiled and gave him a thumbs up, a sign to do his best.

“The athlete's oath...keep this fresh in your minds,” he gave them all a feral grin. “You’re all gonna die as I make it to the top!”

There was a pause before the other students shouted out in anger at the declaration. It was one thing in the hall; but here, on national television and in front of all these people, really?!

“MIDORIYA ARE YOU SERIOUS?!”

“DON’T GET ALL COCKY CLASS 1-A!!”

“THAT GREEN HAIRED ASSHOLE!”

“Stepping stones, all of you.” he snarled into the mic.

Bakugou collapsed onto his hands and knees with a look of dread on his face. What the hell had he been thinking asking Izuku to go up there and give a speech in his place? He should have just asked Iida or Momo to do it.

‘What was I thinking, of course he’d do this. How could I think he’d take this seriously?! Mom, dad, I want to go home…’

“Eh?! Bakugou, are you okay?!”

“Is he crying?!”

“Hahaha, such fighting spirit! I like you kid~” Midnight purred after Midoriya went back to his class. “Now, without further ado, let’s get this show on the road!” she threw her arm out towards an opening gate. Everyone tensed as it gave way to a view of a path that clearly led to some sort of course.

“You will participate in an obstacle race! It’s a race between every member of all eleven classes! The course is a 4 kilometer lap around the stadium itself!” she crossed her arms and laughed. “UA believes in freedom. In like, everything. So as long as you don’t stray off course anything goes! Now take your places!”

Students made their way to the position, gulping at the anxiety and excitement in the air. The light above the gate flashed before a loud ringing went off, causing them all to rush the gate. However in their rush they crowded the narrow gate, making it too hard to get out of there.

Todoroki took that moment to freeze the ground and skate forward, trapping students as he made his way through.

“Nice try you asshole!”

He looked back to see Midoriya soaring through the air, with Bakugou right behind him. The rest of Class 1-A was there too, already used to his tactics when he needed to get out of a situation.

“So predictable.” Momo sighed as they all took off running. They only halted when the grape bastard was sent flying by a swift punch from a giant robot.

“LOOKS LIKE YOU KIDDIES MET YOUR FIRST OBSTACLE! ROBO INFERNO!”

“Aren’t those the zero pointers from the entrance exam?”

“What?! The hero course kids really fought a monster like this?!”

“T-there’s so many!!”

The heterochromatic teen scoffed at the robots and prepared to freeze them but was beat by Midoriya flying by him, clearly holding the robots in place with his quirk. When he cleared through he crossed the legs of the robots and made them collapse onto any unfortunate soul that had to be behind him.

“Stay the hell behind me you peppermint bitch!” he cackled as he ran ahead.

“THERE GOES 1-A’S MIDORIYA! WATCH HIM CLEAR A PATH FOR HIMSELF AND SABOTAGE IT FOR THE OTHERS! SUCH A RUTHLESS COMPETITOR!”

‘Since he went low I’ll go high.’ Bakugou aimed his hands down and launched himself up and over the large crowd of robots.

“OH! AND 1-A’S BAKUGOU HAS TAKEN TO FLYING THROUGH THE SKIES! LET’S HOPE EVERYONE ELSE CAN KEEP UP WITH THEM!”

The other students struggled to make their way forward, class 1-A taking no chances and flying through the robots with relative ease. They all stopped when they came across a haphazard line of rope going across an open canyon with rocky terrain.

“Seriously? How do they expect us to get through this?” a student cried out.

The students looked up when they heard explosions overhead. Bakugou was soaring above the whole course without a problem. Midoriya was jumping across with Tsuyu right behind him. Class 1-A sure had some pretty intense kids!

“HOHO HO~! MIDORIYA AND BAKUGOU ARE SOARING THROUGH THIS COURSE, WITH TODOROKI  NOT THAT FAR BEHIND! LET’S SEE HOW THEY HANDLE THE MINEFIELD!”

Izuku growled as he watched his childhood friend soar over the field. Dammit, he hadn’t mastered making himself fly with his quirk. He instead had to rely on floating every other step to try and keep up. He looked over to see Todoroki right next to him and narrowed his eyes. This bastard was still here?

“I thought you said I wasn’t on your radar?” he stated.

The greenette smirked at that and made sure to stomp his foot down on the ground.

“That’s right, you’re not.”

The explosion kicked up dirt, temporarily blinding the two toned teen. Izuku used the explosion to propel him upwards with his hover. He should’ve thought of this sooner! He was catching up to Bakugou with a feral grin. Now they were on a more even playing field!

“Get the hell outta my way Kacchan!” he growled, stomping his foot onto the taller teen’s back and jumping off of it.

“Ack! Really Izu?” he grunted, twisting himself in the air and aiming his hands behind him. “Like I’m just going to let you do as you please.” he muttered. Twin explosions rocketing him forward. He flipped over Midoriya, their eyes meeting, before he grinned.

“Sorry Izu.”

“Wha-”

He grunted as a foot was planted on his face and he was pushed backwards. He fell and landed right on Todoroki with a thud. They both groaned at the impact, the wind getting knocked out of them.  Bakugou looked down, seeing the ice path the ice user had made for himself and landed, using it to basically skate forward.

“WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT! 1-A’S BAKUGOU NOT ONLY TOOK OUT THE OTHER TWO WHO WERE NECK IN NECK WITH HIM, BUT HE ALSO CAME IN FIRST PLACE!!”

The blond panted as he was finally able to catch his breath. The shout made him jump in surprise. He somehow had forgotten that they were coming back to a stadium full of people and now he was embarrassed. In the stands Toshinori watched with a grin on his face. He was proud of both of them for trying their hardest.

‘Young Bakugou sure doesn’t seem like the kind of person to kick people in the face, but I guess you’ve gotta do whatever it takes to win!’ he thought with a grin.  He sweat dropped when Midoriya came rushing in and delivered a flying dropkick to the blond’s back and sent him flying.

___

“You bastard, kicking me in the face like that.” he growled as he shook the blond.

“W-wait! I’m sorry! Please stop shaking me!!” he cried, his head whipping back and forth.

“Bakubaku, that was so cool!” Uraraka called, a grin on her face. Kirishima was right behind her with a bright smile on his face.

“Yeah Bakubro, that was so manly how you soared above!”

“O-oh? T-thank you. But I just got lucky.” he said, rubbing the back of his neck with a blush.

The three of them standing together was like the sun was shining brightly. Midoriya had to cover his face and look away. It was too damn bright.

“Why are you damn extras crowding him? Piss off!!”

“Everyone, can I have your attention?” Midnight called, getting everyone to look towards her. “On this screen we will see the people who made it past round one!”

On the giant tron were 42 students in the order they finished the race. With Bakugou as number one and Ayoma coming in as the forty-second person to cross the line. He looked like he was going to be sick for some reason.

“As you can see, the top 42 have crossed the line. To everyone who was placed lower don’t worry, we’ve got another way for you to strut your stuff!” she encouraged. “Now, this is where the fun begins. Get ready, because the press will be all over this. So give it the best you’ve got! Now, let’s get ready for the next event!”

On the screen was two simple words: Cavalry Battle.
