Chapter Text
-Bucky-
“Heya Buck, Where ya goin? Aren’t you staying for breakfast?” asking Steve wiping the sweat from his face off onto to his shirt. They’d just come from their annual morning run, and afterwards him and Steve would have breakfast with the rest of the ‘team’ but…
“Actually, I’m just gonna head back to my room. I’ll stay next time,” he’s lying through his teeth but luckily Steve’s to hungry to tell. Bucky’s actually not going back to his room at all, surprise, surprise. He’s heading up stairs to have breakfast with Tony and Peter. He almost feels bad about lying to Steve, but he really wants this time with Tony and honestly he’s not to sure how Stevie would react to finding out that him and Tony are friends now while the rest of the team are struggling to find their footing again. He knows that Steve just wants things to go back to normal; Steve is his best friends and he’s stubborn, bullheaded, and annoying about a lot of things but… he’s a good guy overall he makes mistakes like everyone else. The thing is Steve needs to realize that things can’t go back to the way they were, and why should they from what Bucky has heard things were terrible before now the Avengers were just willing to ignore things. So, to simplify Bucky isn’t gonna tell Steve about hanging out with Tony for two reasons, one Steve will tell the rest of the team, and two Steve will pester him into getting Tony to talk to him.
If you’re worried about caving we can always silence him, thinks the Soldier breaking Bucky out of his silent contemplation. The soilders thoughts have become louder and more insistent. They’ve gone from a silent barrage of violent emotions to actual complex thought.
Bucky was actually slightly worried that he was losing his mind, he spent a few days avoiding everyone and silently panicking. However, he’d run into Bruce one night after struggling to sleep and they drunk some tea together. Bruce had noticed Bucky acting weird and told him that while he’s not that type of doctor he is willing to listen. After listening closely Bruce had nodded sagely and said that he’d experienced that same problems with the Hulk after he’d first joined the Avengers and that after a bit of self-isolation Tony had stalked him down and gotten him to talk and after explaining the situation to him Tony had simply laughed and told Bruce to not think of it as him losing his mind, but as the Hulk finding his. Its progress.
So while the whole situation is still weird to Bucky he’s taken to occasionally ignoring the burst of violent recommendations from the Soldier. The only people he’s not silently rude towards is Tony and Peter while Bucky greatly appreciates. Don’t do it for you, whispers the Soldier.
“Mr. Barnes?” interrupts Friday “You’ve arrived on the Boss’s floor do you want to get out of the elevator now?” questions the AI.
“Oh, yes sorry” mutters Bucky stepping off the elevator. Thanks a lot now she probably thinks I’m crazy thinks Bucky to the Soldier who doesn’t respond.
“Mr. Bucky!” shouts Peter crashing into Barnes and almost knocking both of them over. The kid definitely packs a wallop.
“Hey SpiderKid! What did I tell you about crashing into people, behave,” yells Tony from somewhere in his lab. This was technically Bucky’s first official visit to Tony’s lad and honestly it’s just as wonderful as he expected. Full of life and humming with energy.
“So why exactly are we having breakfast down here instead of in the kitchen like regular people?” Questions Bucky wondering around looking at things.
“Because we aren’t regular people thought you knew that freezer-burn,” says Tony.
“Yeah I know that believe me, but I also know that you wouldn’t be down here for nothin so what’d you do Tony?” questions Bucky while shaking hands with who he’s assuming is Dum-E; Tony’s told him a lot about his bots they’re very important to him.
“Alright so you got me, we’re hiding out down here because Rhodey and Vision wanna have a little talk about the team and whatever and well honestly I don’t wanna be there. Besides he can’t really say anything that I haven’t heard him rant about already. Honestly, I’d like one morning to myself to just hang out with you and Peter and not worry about the team, or the company and just have some fun,” explains Tony leaning over a workbench working on something.
“Yeah okay that’s fair, but isn’t it easier to tell Rhodes you need time to yourself then try to unsuccessfully hide from him?” questions Bucky going to sit down across from Tony where one of the plates of pancakes sits on the table.
“Well yes, Rhodey-bear is very understanding but messing with his is fun besides if he knows you’re here he’s gonna yell at both of us,” Tony tells him in a fake whisper taking a bit of the pancakes sitting in front of him.
“Nothing you’ve said has convinced me that we all aren’t gonna get in trouble,” Bucky tells him scooping a few bits of fruit onto his plate.
“Isn’t tht whut wriends are for?” questions Peter with his out full once again.
“Do you have any manner at all? Did getting superpowers take them all away because I know for a fact you weren’t raised in a barn,” begins Tony obviously trying to hold back a grin as he unsuccessfully scolds Peter who’s trying to stuff a whole pancake into his mouth.
Bucky simply smiles as he watches Tony it’s nice to see him happy like this. From what Bucky can tell he definitely deserves it.
