Chapter 9: Chapter 9

Notes:

Hello everyone!
So this one is a bit of a filler chapter...wanted to show a little bit more of what is going on inside Lexa's head...not everything though...

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Lexa's back hit the mats with a low groan as she flopped down to the ground, her eyes closed and chest heaving. She draped her right arm over her eyes as she released a long sigh through her nose. The sounds of grunts and fists hitting punching bags echoed throughout the gym as some of her teammates continued their workouts.

"You guys are like...super unhelpful"

Lexa heard the sound of feet shuffling around her, before feeling the mat she was sprawled out on dip from the added weight of another person.

She knew it was Anya without even opening her eyes, the scent of cinnamon intertwined with the Calming pheromones of an Alpha giving her away in an instant.

"She said you being different was a good thing, and she told you to text her. I don't see what the problem is...you should text her"

"Ya! And she said this moments before" Lincoln raised his hands curling his fingers into air quotes before dropping down on the mat opposite Anya "making you see fireworks"

Lexa groaned as she raked her hands down her face,

"It was like the fourth of July in my mouth!"

Lexa heard a sigh coming from her right,

"Then what exactly is the issue? It has been painfully obvious that you are attracted to her and I really don't think Clarke would have agreed to go out with you if she didn't feel at least a little bit the same...she definitely wouldn't have kissed you."

She reached her right hand out and lightly smacked Anyas knee. Lexa groaned,

"That isn't helping!"

Lexa chewed her bottom lip as she felt an all too familiar feeling start to stir in her stomach. Clarke's words from the other day had been playing on repeat in her mind since she got to the gym on Sunday afternoon. The Omega saying she wasn't like any Alpha she had met before had hit her harder than she would ever care to admit. Being abandoned on more than one occasion, by a multitude of different people, because she wasn't "strong enough", "too soft" or "not a real Alpha" had brought some deep seeded issues surrounding her self confidence and own self worth to the surface. Issues that came raging to the forefront of her mind, digging their claws in deeper and deeper every time she replayed Clarke's words.

The fact that the first person she ran into at the gym was Anya….did not help. The other Alpha had convinced her not to text the Omega that day, to wait until Wednesday to text her. Make the Omega wait, make a show or power and strength. In the moment Lexa had been all for it, her wolf needing to show the Omega that she was strong, that she was a suitable mate.

But when she was laying in bed at home later that night, the anxiety and self doubt rapidly started to morph into a nauseatingly intense feeling of guilt. She shouldn't have listened to Anya, she should have texted Clarke the moment she got to the gym. Deep down she knew that. But by the time she woke up Monday morning she felt too embarrassed and guilty to reach out then. Then naturally, the longer she waited, the harder it was to reach out.

'There is absolutely no way she is going to give me the time of day ever again. You fucked up.'

Lexa groaned as she let her arms fall to her sides, making a loud slapping sound that rang throughout the gym as they made contact with the mat.

"You sai-"

"LEXA WOODS!"

Lexa grimaced at the high pitched screech.

'Wonderful...just what I needed'

She felt Lincoln scramble up from his spot beside her and take off muttering something like "I'm not getting in the middle of that." while making a beeline for the change room. She even felt Anya stiffen and then squirm next to her, but thankfully she didn't take off like Lincoln had. Lexa sighed and tilted her head back to look towards one of her best friends.

"Hi Luna"

Lexa watched as the inverted image of one of her oldest friends walked towards her, Lexa pushed herself up into a sitting position when she saw...and smelt how pissed off the other Alpha was.

Lexa opened her mouth to speak but before she could get a word out Luna was silencing her with one finger and an icy glare,

"Did you seriously not text Clarke back!? She's all you've been talking about since you got that goddamn massage!" Luna brought her hand back and pinched the bridge of her nose while letting out an exasperated sigh, "look, we all love Anya...we do. But we all also know that she is the absolute last person anyone should be going to for relationship advice."

"Hey!"

Lexa crossed her legs, wringing her hands together in her lap as she took in Luna's words. Her shoulders slumped forward in defeat as she started picking at her shorts, the feelings of guilt, shame and self doubt started swirling around in her gut and started mixing with her natural scent.

When Lexa's pheromones hit Luna's nose her features instantly softened. She motioned for Anya to give them a moment and started pumping out soothing pheromones and sat down beside her,

"Lexa...Costia was wrong" Luna ignored the warning growl coming from her friend and she dug around inside the other Alpha's gym bag "don't you growl at me Lex" she shot her a side glance before going back to her friends bag "she was wrong, you are literally and figuratively the strongest Alpha I have ever encountered. Now" Luna pulled her cellphone out of the bag and stuffed it into Lexa's hands, "Call Clarke, apologize, grovel if you have to. But call her for fucks sake and see if she is willing to look past your momentary lapse in judgment and ask her out again."

A pained whine started in Lexa's throat,

"There is no way she will agree to that. I-I fucked it up Luna!"

Luna shifted so she was sitting in front of Lexa, placing her hands on her friend's knees.

"Lex...take my advice, as your friend and as someone who has mated an Omega...call her, apologize and ask her out again." She shot Lexa a soft smile before pushing herself back up and started walking towards the change rooms, yelling over her shoulder,

"You'll never know if you never ask!"

Lexa licked her lips and nodded her head to herself. She twirled her cellphone around in hands. Lexa chewed on the inside of her cheek, hesitating.

'Goddamn it Luna.'

Lexa unlocked her phone and quickly opened her phonebook, found Clarke and hit call before she could change her mind.

Lexa's chest tightened more and more with each ring, her anxiety growing.

'That's it...you blew i-'

The line clicked open

'L-Lexa?'

Notes:

As always, thank you all so much for reading! Seriously it means a lot!
I have also posted this and changed the characters for a RWBY fic...the first chapter will essentially be the same as this one but if enough people want the fics to continue the stories will diverge going forward.

Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts!
Should I continue or leave it as a one-shot? Let me know! :)
