Chapter Text
It’s been a month since Bonnie has woken up and since then she and the Mikaelson siblings have become quite close. Kol, Klaus, and Elijah have all been helping her figure out the changes in her magic and learn more about... well everything. While she and Rebekah have hung out (Rebekah has dragged Bonnie shopping outside of Mystic Falls on more than one occasion), talked, laughed, and had sleepovers. Rebekah threatened her brothers with bodily harm multiple times if they interrupted their sleepovers (not that they listened; Klaus and Kol were the worst, Elijah quickly learned after the first time to not interrupt).
Throughout the months time, the Mikaelson siblings have been working diligently to keep Bonnie’s old friends away from her. Kol even joined the high school to help Rebeca keep them away during the school day. Which is a much harder job than Klaus and Elijah have while Bonnie is at their house.
Yes, throughout that month Bonnie has moved all of her things into one of the bedrooms and made it completely her own. While Rebeca and Kol have to work throughout the entire school day to keep her ex-friends away from Bonnie (they are more harsh and violent with the Salvatore's, Elena, and Caroline than they are with Matt). Klaus and Elijah have only had to deal with Elena's half-assed pathetic attempt, Caroline's assertive attempts everyday, and Matt’s calm and hopeful attempts; since he is accepting of what he knows the answer will be, but still hoping. The Salvatores haven’t tried anything, but they are all waiting for one of their half-assed cooked up plans.
Bonnie has stayed firm in her decision on not seeing or talking to any of her old friends; especially the Salvatore brothers and Gilberts. She does feel bad about Caroline and Matt though she felt worse about Matt than Caroline; even though Caroline wasn’t directly a part of the problem she still played into it by not trying to stop Bonnie. Matt just was constantly kept out of the loop and the few times he knew he would ask Bonnie if she would actually be okay.
Bonnie doesn’t even want to go down the road of whatever her relationship was with Jeremy. She has no interest in ever seeing or talking to him again… what a colossal disappointment. Bonnie had gotten a new phone and new phone number, while also blocking all of the scooby gang on all social media and their numbers.
At the moment Bonnie and the Mikaelson’s are hanging out in the living room after dinner. Elijah is of course reading, Kol has been going between reading grimoires and playing on his phone, Rebekah has been looking through different fashion magazines, and Klaus has been drawing in his sketchbook. While Bonnie is cuddled up in a blanket with her head in Klaus’s lap, as she watches the fire in the fireplace (she has finally finished her homework).
“How’s Finn and Sage doing?” Bonnie’s quiet voice gets the siblings' attention, all of them notice how her eyes are starting to droop. Klaus closes his sketchbook and tosses it lightly onto the coffee table. He carefully starts to brush one of his hands through Bonnie’s hair, causing her eyelids to flutter.
“They’re good love, I believe that they are now in Morocco. Enjoying the people and the architecture.” Bonnie hums softly, as her eyes close while Klaus continues to run his fingers through her hair. Elijah pulls his attention away from the book and adds, “They are planning on trekking through the Sahara Desert, they are desperately wanting to make up for lost time.” Kol snorts and mutters “Sounds miserable.”
Bonnie’s eyes don’t even open as she scolds Kol, “Don’t be rude Kol, Finn and Sage deserve this time to travel and make up for lost time as Eli said. They also have a right to do so without anyone’s judgement.” Kol childishly mocks her while Klaus gives him a death glare, Elijah looks at him with disappointment, and Rebeca just rolls her eyes. “Ow! Bloody hell witch, that wasn’t nice!”
Bonnie’s lips twitch up in a smirk at his words knowing that her slight hex hit its mark, but otherwise gave no reaction. “Can we leave right after I graduate? I’d rather not be in Mystic Falls longer than I need to be.” The abrupt change of topic caused everyone to pause.
“Bloody hell, yes please! This town is dreadfully boring!” Rebecca’s voice breaks the silence while Kol snorts.
“I’m up for leaving this pathetic little boring town behind. What say you brothers?” Everyone stares at Kol as Elijah lets out an exasperated sigh and steeples his fingers together. Keeping his eyes focused on whatever it is that he is reading. “As much as I dislike to say this, especially with the lack of tact that Kol used with his delivery... I agree with Kol, I believe it is about time for us to leave.”
Klaus, giving a slight smirk even as his eyes give way to his wolf, as they do every time he’s touching Bonnie. “Where would you like to go, love? There are so many options. We could travel the states or head to a different country.”
Bonnie stays silent as she thinks, the only indication that she isn’t asleep is her hand on his leg; tracing different symbols and glyphs. “I don’t really know where I want to go, just as long as it is far away from here.” All of a sudden a brilliant idea pops into Bonnie’s mind, causing a wicked grin to cross her face. “Can we go to Cork, Ireland. I would just love to see the land around there.”
It’s dead silent as Bonnie opens her eyes to look at the gathered siblings while trying to hide the giggles that want to escape her. She watches as Rebekah gets a little secretive grin on her face not taking her eyes off the magazine. While Kol gets a wide grin on his face as he starts to laugh. Elijah huffs out a laugh as his eyes flick to Klaus, while Klaus narrows his eyes at Rebekah.
“Rebekah…” Rebekah just calming flips a page as she continues to look through the magazine. “Yes, brother dearest?” Klaus gently moves Bonnie off of his lap, Bonnie allows herself to sit up to watch what was unfolding in amusement.
“Rebekah love, I thought that we agreed that we wouldn’t talk about Cork, Ireland.” Bonnie watches as a smirk grows on Rebekah’s face and takes notice how this moment has Elijah’s Kol’s attention. There is a long pause as Klaus glares at Rebekah and Rebekah acts nonchalant. While Kol is trying his hardest not to let his laughter break through, Elijah is calmly watching, and Bonnie’s lips are twitching as she's trying not to laugh.
Then, “Rebekah… run.” Rebekah is streaking out of the room with Klaus right on her heels. Causing Bonnie, Elijah, and Kol to start laughing as they could hear crashes happening somewhere in the house.
“We all agreed that we wouldn’t speak about that!” Klaus’s voice yelled from somewhere in the house.
“It’s funny Nik! I thought Bonnie would enjoy hearing about it!” Somewhere else in the house they heard Bekkah’s response. Causing another bout of laughter. What a way to end the night.
---
That next morning, Bonnie kinda… sort of, might have… snuck out of the Mikaelson house… For a good reason! Bonnie woke up in a cold sweat with a terrible feeling in her chest. Something about that feeling told her there was something terribly wrong with Matt… or possibly something wrong with Matt.
Bonnie is well aware that Matt may not want to see her, after so long of her not giving him a chance to try and talk with her… but Bonnie has to know that he is okay. She’s not expecting a warm welcome, nor is she expecting him to forgive her. Bonnie just wants five minutes of his time to check on him.
When she slips into The Mystic Grill, there are only a handful of tables that have people sitting at them eating. While a couple people are sitting at the bar, she allows herself to scan the entire restaurant. Hoping to find Matt waiting at one of the tables or doing something. Bonnie can feel her anxiety kick up a notch as it takes longer and longer to find him. Though she doesn’t remember the dream she had about him that caused her to jerk awake in a cold sweat… She knows it’s not good.
Finally, she sees Matt step out from the back room and she quickly makes her way over to him. He doesn’t notice her, he’s busy restocking something behind the bar. “Matt…” Bonnie allows herself to quietly say his name, immediately getting Matt’s attention. His head jerks in her direction and the moment he sees that she’s standing there; his eyes widen and then he is moving around the bar. Before Bonnie knows what’s happening, he’s pulling her into a tight hug and slowly rocks them back and forth. While running his fingers through her hair, she can feel the slight shaking going through his body.
“Shit, Bonnie, I knew that you were okay… that still didn’t stop me from worrying about your health and wellbeing. I understand why you’ve done what you have… I don’t like it, but I don’t have to like it… because I understand.” They both slowly pull out of the hug and Bonnie gives Matt a small apologetic smile.
“I’m really sorry Matt, I knew what I was doing wasn’t fair to you. I just had to completely cut ties. I just… I didn’t want you to have to choose between me and the others. I didn’t want to put you in that position. I-I was also just being a coward…” Matt allows himself to finally, really study Bonnie. Not just how she physically looks, which Matt can admit to himself that - though her hair is white - she looks incredibly healthy… Bonnie even has a healthy glow to her skin that he cannot remember ever seeing before.
“No, Bonnie… you needed to give yourself time. You deserved to allow time for yourself to heal and figure it all out. I wouldn’t have helped with that, as much as I wish I could have… I would have just helped to confuse the situation. As much as I don’t particularly love the Mikaelsons… They were the best ones to help you in this situation.” Bonnie can’t stop the relieved, joy filled grin that came on her face. Nor could she stop the warmth she felt in her chest upon thinking about the Mikaelson family (which she never would have thought would happen).
“Thanks Matt, I really do appreciate you saying that.” Matt gives her a genuine smile and moves back to restocking, Bonnie sits herself down at one of the bar seats and just watches for a little bit. While allowing herself to get lost in her thoughts.
“What brings you here Bonnie? Other than finally deciding to talk with me?” Bonnie focuses back on Matt and before she can even make a move to start apologizing again. She takes notice of the teasing grin he is giving her, Bonnie allows a slight huff to escape her even as she smiles at him. Which she quickly loses as she is reminded of the awful feeling that brought her to him in the first place.
“Matt… I umm- I had a dream, it jerked me awake in a cold sweat. I don’t remember it… but I had an awful feeling and I knew it was something about you. I just- you know about how when a witch dreams, it is never just a dream… ever . I had to check on you… Matt, you-you’re still on vervain right?” Matt nods his head as he continues to restock.
“Of course I am Bonnie, I’ve actually been growing vervain. So, I know for a fact that I’m ingesting it. I never want to be mentally vulnerable to another vampire again. Which reminds me, if the Mikaelson’s don’t know you’re here… you should really let them know. There are some new vampires in town that are causing problems. I know that you can take care of yourself, but it would make me feel better if the Mikaelson’s were aware of it-” Bonnie quickly nods and texts Klaus to let him know where she’s at and what Matt just told her. She just puts down her phone when she realizes that Matt is still talking, but it’s muffled.
Her eyes shoot up to him and she tries to focus, but it doesn’t work, she looks around and everything seems to have freezed; people are frozen in mid movement, Matt is frozen in mid-sentence. Everything seems to constrict and flex around her, then Bonnie is falling… falling into an abyss. All she can hear is a faint echo of Matt calling her name.
----
It’s incredibly cloudy in Mystic Falls, so cloudy in fact that the street lights are on and there seems to be a great storm brewing. Matt is walking along the street sidewalk alone; the town is eerily still, dead silent. There are rapid shadows moving in and out of the alleyways of buildings. The shadows seem to ripple as they appear behind Matt, then quickly disappear.
Matt pauses in his steps and slowly looks around, finding himself in the middle of the street. There are malicious whispers upon the wind, the shadows seem to undulate and move closer and closer to him. Then walking out of the shadows are five people; three males and two females. It was obvious that the males and one of the females are vampires. While the other one seems to be a witch.... Or rather a black magic witch.
All of them converge around Matt in a loose circle, their lips are moving, though no sound escapes. Matt's lips are moving, but again, no sound escapes. Then the black magic witch lashes out and grabs Matt’s left wrist with her right hand. Black veins climb up Matt’s arm like living roots underneath his skin. It quickly moves up his neck and onto his face. The veins seem to spear into his eyes, turning them black as a starless night.
Then Matt dropped to the ground as though his spirit left his body, within moments the five people disappeared into shadows… talking Matt’s body with them.
----
Everything swirled and spun, then it came upon another scene. Showing Matt or rather, what appeared to be Matt talking with Caroline. While luring her out into the forest, when they get to old ruins… Matt stops and turns to face Caroline. He gives her an eerie smile, then, his body drops.
Caroline rushes to him, she starts to shake him to get him to wake up and yet receives no response. Shadows move in out of nowhere surrounding her; one hand whips out and grabs her left wrist. The same black veins climb up Caroline’s arm and travel fast up, around her neck and to her face. Then she collapses onto the ground, right after Matt slowly stands up and walks to the female vampire. He tilts his head to one side, baring his neck to her.
The female vampire easily strikes his neck and feeds on him, she pulls away leaving his blood to continue to flow out as she locks eyes with the others in the group. Then they are gone like shades, taking Matt and Caroline with.
