Only Tommy Boy pauses, just long enough to grab a handful of Oscar’s shirt and yank him forward. Oscar snarls wordlessly and digs his nails into the boy’s arm, takes pleasure in how nasally and broken his voice sounds. At least he got one good hit in.
Unfortunately, Tommy Boy doesn’t seem bothered by the pain, or the bloody crescents Oscar is leaving on his forearm. “Touch Splasher like that again, Finch won’ be around to reign me in,” he hisses. “Got it?”

Tommy Boy deals with his guilt upon returning to the lodging house with his injured brothers after scabbing. Particularly for Splasher, who’s taken a hard knock to his trust and fears that maybe everything’s his fault, for not being able to do something like Mike told him to.
Oscar deals with his own guilt, returning to their bedroom with his younger brother who’s overwrought and raw with a meltdown in the wake of the fight.
They both want to make it better. They try in their own ways.
