Changing Bonds

Summary:

Due to a weird accident Lucius Malfoy finds himself as Harry Potter's new, adopted father. What happens when Lucius discovers that his feelings towards our favourite hero aren't exactly fatherly? AU after fourth year, WIP, rating and warnings for the whole story.

Notes:

Note from SeparatriX, the archivist: this story was originally archived at HP Fandom, which was closed for health and financial reasons. To preserve the archive, I began manually importing its works to the AO3 as an Open Doors-approved project in August 2016. I e-mailed all creators about the move and posted announcements, but may not have reached everyone. If you are (or know) this creator, please contact me using the e-mail address on HP Fandom collection profile.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter universe; it belongs to a very talented writer called J.K.Rowling. I do however own this story, my original characters and perhaps even a spell or two :) I don't make any money by writing this story, it's completely for my (and hopefully my readers') pleasure.

A.N. This is my first longer fic in English. The prologue is quite short, and I apologize in advance, but the rest of the chapters should be longer. Reviews are very welcome, especially if you want to point out my spelling/grammar mistakes. This story should be quite long, and it will take time until the relationship between Harry and Lucius evolves.

CHANGING BONDS

Prologue

Some people say that there is no such thing as coincidence. On their opinion, all things happen for a reason; a mysterious force, often called fate or destiny, guides our way through life and carefully orchestrates meetings, glances and other seemingly unimportant things that, in fact, can have the greatest impact on our lives.

Whether it was because of a freakish coincidence or fate’s methodical planning, a piece of parchment ended up on a wrong table in the Ministry of Magic. This may not seem to be a valuable or even an interesting piece of information but that one misplaced document caused the change of the lives of many wizards and witches. However, I’m getting ahead of myself now; let’s start at the beginning, shall we?

The aforementioned piece of parchment had travelled a long way inside the walls of the Ministry. From desk to desk, it had wandered, gaining the necessary signatures and stamps, until it was almost official and needed only a single signature more. And then, when it had been calmly laying on the table of Fudge’s secretary, a nice young woman with no aptness to order what so ever, someone knocked over the pile of documents sitting next to the parchment. In her haste to lunch break, the secretary quickly heaped the sheets of parchment, not noticing that an extra document had accidentally slipped between two sheets. She might have noticed that something was missing if a young delivery boy hadn’t showed up at that exact minute. She had a bit of a crush on him, and who could blame her? After all, the man was certainly handsome. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on the point of view, said young man picked up the pile of documents with the extra parchment and delivered it to Lucius Malfoy.

That certainly doesn’t sound too bad, does it? One would think that once lord Malfoy would go through the documents he would find the parchment and return it to its proper place. This day, however, wasn’t a typical one for Lucius Malfoy since he was already very late from a meeting and those documents needed to be delivered yesterday, and that’s why he, in undoubtedly un-Malfoy and un-Slytherin like fashion, signed all the documents in the pile, not even bothering to check them first.
