Chapter Text
Min Yoongi was the kind of man who kept to himself. Kept his words short and to the point, kept his interactions with others to a minimum. It made life easier that way.
Which meant he was extra pissed off when at 27 he was shot point blank in a convenience store robbery gone wrong. All he wanted was a fuckin' melon ice cream and now he was fuckin' dead. Pissed off- really, really pissed off- and dead.
After he realized he's dead, which didn't take long because he could see his own body laying on the stark white tile of the convenience store floor, he wondered what the hell was supposed to happen next. Nobody came to escort him anywhere, nobody could see him, nothing. He thought for a moment about trying to climb back into his body but he decided he'd rather be dead than deal with what was left of the body on the ground. It wasn't worth the effort even if he could come back.
He wandered for a while, not wanting to go back to the apartment he'd called home because it was still hard to deal with the reality of things, but eventually he needed familiarity.
What he found instead of familiarity was a giant lanky male that stood like half a head taller than him who had a horrible habit of kicking his coffee table every time he walked past it.
Yoongi watched the male for a while with curiosity. It was a weird roommate type of situation, since the tall male had no idea Yoongi was there, but the ghost was always watching.
Kim Namjoon was a lot of things. He was smart, he had pretty good charisma, he was a pretty well established producer and songwriter and one of the youngest in the business. What he wasn't, was well organized or graceful. He tended to lose things like the pencil he'd been using, or forget his laptop charger when he traveled so now he had no less than 8. And he had a horrible habit of breaking most things he touched. Nothing he owned except his cellphone and laptop costed terribly much because he knew he'd end up breaking and replacing it at least twice.
At first, it wasn't that strange when Namjoon's keys started disappearing. Sometimes he threw them on the counter, other times on the coffee table, it happened so it really wasn't strange.
What was strange, was when he started finding them in other places like the bathroom, his bedroom, and once he even found them in the freezer.
It didn't happen all the time, usually only when he'd had extra time in the mornings, but the last two times had nearly made him late for meetings, and he'd started to wonder what was happening in his apartment. He did some research, looked into a few different things, and thought about it for a while. When his keys going missing had reliably begun happening four times a week, he knew something needed to be done.
Today, he hatched a plan. It was his day off, and he knew for a fact that he left his keys on the coffee table because he took a picture of it on his phone before bed the night before. He got up and showered and dressed in a fake panic, and as he tugged his shoes on he looked to the table- his keys were missing again.
"Joke's on you, asshole, I'm off today!" Namjoon laughed and flopped onto his couch, throwing his shoes across the room at the door and stretching out on the tan cushions. "Don't know who or what you are, but it's not nice to move people's keys!" Did Namjoon know there was something in his house moving his shit? Not really. But he'd never been one to think something's impossible just because he personally hadn't seen it. And he definitely decided something was fucking with him when his keychain came flying across the room and smacked him in the middle of his chest. "Now that's just rude."
Yoongi stood with his arms folded over his chest with confusion on his face. This guy was seriously lecturing him! He blinked at the male with a blank expression as he slid another key off the keyring and hurled it at him, growling under his throat when he missed and it bounced off the back of the couch and hit the floor with a loud clang.
"Quit throwing shit at me! The least you could do is introduce yourself! I'm Kim Namjoon. I'm a music producer and I dabble in the underground rap scene. Who are you? What are you?" Namjoon set out a pencil and a sheet of paper and waited in silence. "If you can throw my keys at me, you can pick up a pencil and introduce yourself."
The pencil lifted and Namjoon watched as Min Yoongi was scribbled on the page.
"Min Yoon...gi?" He chewed on his bottom lip and thought hard. The name sounded familiar, but he couldn't pin down why. "What are you?"
I'm a ghost. I'm fuckin' dead, asshole. The fuck you think I am? The goddamn tooth fairy?
Namjoon was not impressed with the ghost's sense of humor. "I'm not being an asshole, asshole. I'm trying to figure out what the hell I got into when I moved into this place. They never told me it was haun- you were the guy that lived here before."
Yeah.
"You were murdered at the convenience store down the street."
All I wanted was a goddamn melon pop. A. God. Damn. Melon. Pop.
"What happened? Other than the part where you got killed, I mean? Why you?"
If I fuckin' knew I wouldn't fuckin' be here still! Yoongi threw the pencil on the table and growled under his breath. "It's not like I fuckin' like being an intangible goddamn ghost."
"Excuse me?" Namjoon jumped at the sound of a deep voice, he looked around for the owner before he realized it must have been the ghost. "Min Yoongi?"
"You can hear me?"
"Uh...yeah I guess so?"
Yoongi chewed on his bottom lip for a long time, he flopped on the couch next to Namjoon and sighed- making the living male scream in shock. "Sorry, forgot you can't...like...see me."
"Nah it's cool. Wait- I can't see you but you can see me, right?"
"That's what being a ghost means, genius."
"Do you watch me in the shower?"
"If you're asking do I occasionally enjoy all that tan skin flushed and shining with hot water? Cus...yeah. Sometimes. You're pretty hot, Namjoon." Yoongi wished he'd been lying, but Namjoon really was pretty hot and he had watched the male a few times in the shower.
"Do you watch me jack off?"
"What!? No! I'm not a fucking pervert!"
Namjoon wasn't sure if he was relieved or disappointed. Yoongi sounded pretty hot, and there was a part of him that was excited by the ghost watching him. He wandered into his bedroom and grabbed his laptop, plopping onto the edge of his bed and typing Min Yoongi in the image search bar. Regrettably, he'd forgotten the man was murdered and the first several images were of the crime scene.
"Disgusting, isn't it?" Yoongi sat behind Namjoon and watched the younger male struggle through the grotesque images. "Blasted me in the goddamn head as soon as I turned around and saw what was happening."
"You were 27?" he heard Yoongi make a noise of confirmation. "That's...fucked up. What happened to your family? Wife? Kids?"
Yoongi snorted and grabbed Namjoon's pillow and hit him with it. "No girlfriend, no boyfriend, no kids. Guess my family's fine. Didn't exactly leave home on the best terms, so I doubt they really miss me that much. No friends- well- one friend. He's alright though. I've gone to see him a few times, he's good. His boyfriend helped him a lot."
"Is it hard?"
"Knowing I'm dead and everyone I've ever known is just fine without me? Yeah, it sucks. It really...really sucks." Yoongi sighed and leaned against Namjoon's back. "I'm leaning on you."
"I know. I can sort of feel it...not like it's real, but like the memory of someone leaning against my back." Namjoon finally found one of the ghost's social media pages, nobody had bothered to delete it. "Damn, that's a shame."
"What is?"
"You're hot."
Yoongi headbutted Namjoon and laughed when the living male coughed a bit from the not-quite pain. "Stop trying to flirt with a dead man, Namjoon. You're setting yourself up for failure."
Namjoon rolled his eyes and sighed. "My heart hurts for you, Yoongi."
"I don't need your pity." Yoongi snapped, lifting the pillow and smacking it into Namjoon's head. "I'm gonna go hide your keys again." the pillow dropped as the ghost ran off, Namjoon could hear cabinet doors and drawers open and slam- it sounded like the ghost was hiding all of Namjoon's keys individually.
Namjoon wandered into the main part of the apartment, watching as doors and drawers and couch cushions open, close, and get shoved around. "Why are you like this?"
"Cus I can be. Let's face it, I'm dead. What're you gonna do...hit me?" Yoongi teased, opening up the freezer and tossing a key into it, nabbing an ice cube and darting across the apartment to stand behind Namjoon. "Surprise!" he smirked, dropping the ice cube down Namjoon's shirt and laughing his ass off when the male squealed and ran away doing the strangest dance Yoongi had ever seen in an attempt to free the frozen cube from his shirt.
"Is this what our relationship is going to be like from now on?" Namjoon asked with a groan as the ice fell from his shirt and slid across the tile floor.
"Most likely."
