Chapter Text
“Nurse!” Your head shot up at the nickname. You sighed, closing your book and stomping over to where the Holy Knights were at. One was holding his arm, putting pressure on whatever cut he had sustained in training. You moved his hand out of the way to look at it.
You rolled your eyes, dropping your hands to your sides. “This is a scratch!”
“But its your job to heal me, isn’t it?” Him and his buddies snickered. “I mean, after all, you are only a nurse. You’re not a real Holy Knight.”
The words stung, but you didn’t let it show. “And you’re not really hurt. Give me your arm.” You reached into your hip pouch and pulled out some gauze wrap. When you went to wrap his arm, he pulled away and tutted.
“No, I need to be healed completely. I can’t have any of that wrap stuff destroying my image. What would my fans think if they saw me with that on?”
“That you actually won a fight.” You said.
“What was that, you brat?” He hissed. “You’ll pay for that!” He raised his fist and brought it down, punching you in the face. You stumbled a bit at the impact but refused to fall. You brought a hand to where he hit you, wincing some at the pain.
“What’s going on here?” You looked over to see Gilthunder make his way over.
“Nothing, sir,” You spoke, turning away so he didn’t see the forming bruise. “I was just healing this man’s wound.”
“Let me see,” He gripped the knight’s arm, sighing and dropping it. “It’s a scratch. You don’t need healing. It’ll go away on its own.”
“That-that’s what I said sir!” He nodded, staring you down. “This brat interrupted my training to heal it. It’s just a scratch, see?” You nodded, not even bothering to counter his argument.
“Then I suggest you be nicer to her.” Gilthunder said. “She may be our healer in the battle field, but she could decide to pass over you at any time to tend to others, no matter how badly injured you are.” The man gulped. “You should be grateful she’s not like that, however.”
You nodded. “It would tear me to pieces if I let anybody die on my watch.” With that being said, you turned on your heel and trekked back to your spot in the shade, opening your book and finding your spot once more.
“Are you hurt?” You jumped, almost losing the grip on the book. You looked up to find the face of one of the princesses.
“P-Princess Elizabeth!” You hurriedly got to your feet, bowing clumsily. “I wasn’t expecting to see you out here!”
She giggled. “You don’t have to bow. I watched what happened and wanted to make sure you were okay.” You studied her face. Her uncovered eye showed her earnest intent and her face shone with care.
You nodded. “I’m fine, Your Highness. There’s no need to worry about a simple healer.”
“Probably not, but I like to anyways. You play such an important role in battle,” She smiled honestly, eyes closing as she clasped her hands together in front of her. “One day, I wish to be able to heal others to the degree you can!”
You felt a flush come over your cheeks and looked away. “Y-you’re too kind, Princess.” This flattery… why was she being so nice? “Um, how’s Sir Meliodas? I heard he and the other Sins just got back from a small journey.” She smiled, and I felt the relief of changing the subject wash over me.
“Oh, he and the others are well!” The Princess paused, lifting a hand to her chin. “Have you met them before?”
“Me? No, I couldn’t,” You waved your hands in front of you. “I-I don’t think I’m, uh, worthy.”
“What? Of course you are!” She giggled, reaching over and pulling your hand. “I’ll take you to meet them right now!”
“P-Princess Elizabeth!” You yelled, letting her pull you away. “There’s no need, honestly!” She didn’t respond, choosing instead to drag you around the castle grounds in order to find Sir Meliodas and the others. Soon, a familiar blond blob of hair could be seen walking down an adjacent corridor.
“Sir Meliodas!” Princess Elizabeth called, waving and smiling. The blob stopped and looked over. He was wearing his old tavern uniform and grinned as we got closer.
“Hey Elizabeth!” He pulled his hands behind his head, elbows raised upwards. “Who’ve you got there?” The Princess finally let go of your hand. You didn’t know what to do, so you bowed slightly again.
“I’m just a healer, sir,” You say simply, straightening and wrapping your cloak tighter around your frame.
“Hey, aren’t you Laurine’s daughter?” You stepped back in shock at the name.
“Y-you knew my mother?”
“Yeah! She was an amazing healer! Packed quite the punch, too.” He chuckled some. You bowed your head, smiling some at the memory of your mother.
“She did, didn’t she?”
“So are you following in her footsteps then?” Sir Meliodas asked. You nodded.
“Yes. After her death, I began to exhibit the same powers as she had. I figured I could use my powers to help and protect.”
“Your mother said the same thing.” You grinned wider, glad to have someone to share her memory with.
“Why don’t you join us for dinner?” Princess Elizabeth asked suddenly. Your eyes widened at the notion.
“D-dinner? Oh, no, no, I couldn’t…”
“Sure you could!” Sir Meliodas cut off your protests. “I was just about to go the Boar Hat. You’re in luck; Ban’s cooking tonight!”
“If I wouldn’t be imposing on any important business,” They shook their heads and I smiled. “Then I would love to join you!”
