Their Daily Lives (Of Jealousy, Unspoken Truths and Shenanigans)

Summary:

Chuuya and Dazai begin their high school life and another three years of hidden affection, jealousy, and stupid shenanigans.

P.S. Eighty-seven percent of the time those shenanigans are Dazai's fault.
Six percent of the time it's due to Chuuya being oblivious.
The other seven percent is from both of their jealousy for each other.

Notes:

Disclaimer: I don't own anything except the idea for this fanfic.

This came about while I was trying to avoid studying.

Dazai and Chuuya are both sixteen and just starting high school.

Chapter 1: Same Old, Same Old

Chapter Text

Chuuya cursed internally as he tried to look over the other students. At his age, a majority of students had already undergone or started undergoing their growth spurt, while he (begrudgingly admits) was a late bloomer (just they wait, damn it, he’ll be taller than all of them soon).

As it was, it took some effort on his part to politely shove his way through the crowd of students to search for his name on the classroom assignment notice on the notice board. Fortunately, he found it quickly enough, in class 1-A, along with shitty Dazai’s.

Shit.

It was bad enough that the bastard is going to the same high school, now, he had to share a classroom for the year with him again.

Ugh.

He wonders if it’s was just his shitty luck or if his teachers already hated him… Probably the former, he was a good student, if he does say so… until Dazai comes into the picture… Ugh, the teachers here are going to think he’s a troublemaker too, at this rate, and that means home calls to Ane-san, which means allowance cuts again.

Ugh. Chuuya resolves internally to avoid the Mackerel on campus as much as possible and to remain calm when he has to forcibly interact with the idiot, although he doesn’t have much hope for that plan, as his phone buzzes incessantly while he searches for his classroom. He ignores it as he enters his classroom, scanning the room, he notes that one-third of the seat was already filled, many had decided to come earlier to get a good spot as well as to get to know others.

He moves to the window seat on the second last row (he did not intentionally choose a seat where it’s surrounding was unoccupied), placing his bag down, he pulls out his phone, which had stopped buzzing for the moment, opening the messaging app that he didn’t bother closing properly, he immediately rolls his eyes at the number of new messages from a certain annoyance.

He puts his phone back in his bag even as it starts buzzing again, turning to the person he saw approaching him from the corner of his eyes.

“Hi, I’m Tachihara Michizou! “ The boy greets him, Chuuya raises an eyebrow at his appearance, messy dyed red hair (was that even allowed), bandaged nose (were bandages really becoming a fashion item??? Wtf)  and a relatively sloppy uniform put together.

“Hey, Nakahara Chuuya’s the name,” he introduces himself, smiling lightly.

“So… do you know anyone here? I don’t think anyone from my school is in the same classroom as me,” Tachihara chuckles nervously, rubbing the back of his head.

Chuuya reluctantly nodded, “there’s another guy from my middle school that managed to get into this school, and he’s in our class as well,” he checks his phone, 8:33 A.M, where the hell was Dazai?

Speak of the devil and he will appear, they say.

“Chuuya~ you left without me, I even went to your house so early, only for Ane-san to tell me you’d already left,” a high-pitch whine near his right ear as a body drapes over him.

Chuuya’s eye twitched as a few of their classmates turn to look at them, “We’d be late on the first day if I’d waited for you. When I said early, I meant early by normal standards, not your standard which is before the bell rings,” elbowing his side to get away.

“But, today’s suppose to be the first time I walk to school with Chuuya, I even walked to your house, it was so tiring~” Chuuya turns to face Dazai’s face which was next to him with surprise, finally noticing that the other was still slightly out of breath. Both their houses weren’t that far from this school, but Chuuya’s house was in the opposite direction from school. He felt his insides warm a little, knowing that the Mackerel really did want to walk to school with him, he had thought he was joking when he told him.

He sighs, knowing the other wouldn’t be satisfied until he got his way, “fine, I’ll go over to yours tomorrow, but you’d better be early, I’m leaving you behind if you’re not ready when I get there.” Dazai brightens, “Chibi’s the best~” causing Chuuya to snort, “you know it, now, get off me,” shrugging his shoulders, Dazai finally relenting and moving to place his bag at the seat in front of Chuuya’s.

“You guys seem close,” Chuuya startles, forgetting that there was someone talking to him before Dazai came. Tachihara smiles awkwardly, having been ignored while both of them bickered. He was about to answer but was cut off by Dazai.

“Hm? Yeah, Chuuya and I are superrrr close, I know everything about Chuuya~ I’m Dazai Osamu, by the way,” Chuuya blinks, observing Dazai’s behaviour, although he was friendly enough, his eyes seem to have a malicious glint. Did he not like Tachihara?

“O-oh, are you like childhood friends?” Tachihara shutters, looking at Chuuya, sensing something off about Dazai’s behaviour, even if he was smiling brightly.

“No, thank god. We’ve known each other since our second year from junior high, when I transferred to his school,” Chuuya replies, cutting off whatever nonsense he could see Dazai was about to sprout, causing him to pout.

Tachihara’s eyes widen in surprise, considering how friendly they were earlier, he was honestly shocked to find out that they had only known each other for two years. Before he could continue though, the bell rang, and their teacher came in, ceasing any further questioning on his part.
