King was slowly but surely brought out of his sleep by the sound of a baby crying. He opened his eyes to a dark room, barely lit by the moon outside. Carefully lifting his arm from its place around Diane he placed his feet on the cold floor. He moved his wings out the way so that they wouldn't disturb her and silently exited the room. He pushed open the door to next to his and Diane's room and immediately made his way over to the crib that sat in the corner.
"Hey there little man, what's wrong?" He said softly as he picked up his infant son. The small baby boy kept crying as King held him close to his chest.
"It's alright, Leo. You're ok. I've got you." He whispered. King checked his diaper but found nothing and he knew he couldn't be hungry since he ate not to long ago. Leo continued to cry despite King's attempt at soothing him. A few minutes of gentle swaying and words went by but to no avail the fairy decided to try something else.
He began to hum the notes of a human lullaby he had learned before his son was born.
"Edelweiss, Edelweiss, every morning you greet me." He still swayed as he began to sing.
"Small and white, clean and bright, you look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow may, you bloom and grow.
Bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever."
Little Leo quieted some, finally starting to calm down.
In the next room over Diane woke up to soft singing coming from her son's room. She got out of bed and walked over to the small room. She smiled fondly as she watched her husband sing softly to their son.
"Edelweiss," he began again after a pause.
"Edelweiss," she joined in from the doorway. He looked at her in surprise before smiling and moving closer to her.
"Edelweiss,"
"Edelweiss,"
"Every morning you greet me." They sang together.
"Small and white."
"Small and white."
"Clean and bright."
"Clean and bright."
"You look happy to meet me." King couldn't help the small laugh that escaped while they sang together. Leo was mostly asleep as King walked back over to his crib.
"Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow.
Bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss,
Edelweiss,
Bless my homeland forever."
King gently set the now sleeping baby down in the crib. Diane came over and wrapped an arm around King's back.
"When did he wake up?" She asked softly.
"Not too long ago. I'm not sure what woke him," He replied, gently putting his arm around her shoulders. Diane hummed and laid her head on his shoulder and the couple watched their son as their son slept.
