Chapter Text
The clicking on key, and the laboured breaths of the scientists were the only sounds present.
They were all wondering if any of them had high enough clearance to turn the ac on in this stuffy little lap.
One of them, a man on the short yet older side pulled out an old fashioned pager and sent a message to somebody.
Minutes later the air conditioner roared to live and then settled at a nice calming hum, creating more background noise in this fairly quiet lab.
"Thank god for that!" A woman sitting in her chair wiped the sweat off her brow. "I was beginning to think we'd die on heat stroke in this oven."
"Shh!" A man said pushing up his glasses and typing while he talked. "We aren't paid to talk."
"I'm aware, but as it stands all we need to do it run one last test and we will see if this latest version is a success or yet another failure, god I'd hate to see what happens to us if the Hero Public Safety Commission finds out we failed again?"
"If you don't want to fail then get back to work and make sure you didn't mess anything up!" An anxious boy, the youngest of them all said as he typed.
They all began typing in a smooth rhythm, like an odd lullaby.
"I'm finished my part!" The girl said happily.
"Same here." The anxious boy confirmed.
"As am I." The male with glasses said.
"I am too." The short older male said.
"So who wants to do the honours?" The girl asked.
"Well I don't see why it matters, it's just going to be another failure."
"Aw don't be like that, even the failures are contributing to science!" She said passionately.
"I do not believe it matters who presses the button." The stricter scientist said.
"Then can I do it?" She said excitedly, practically vibrating off the ground in anticipation.
"I don't see why no-" before that sentence could he finished she bounded across the entirety of the lab and pressed a button on the wall.
There's whirring, akin to that of the air conditioning unit, then the clock of the locking mechanism deactivating, and finally the capsule attached to the floor opens release the cool mist that was inside.
"Lucky bastard, isn't even awake for it but gets to be cooler than us." She grumbled.
When the mist vanished you could make out the distinct shape of a humanoid body, topped with fluffy green hair.
"Okay here's praying?" She walked towards the chamber holding the stationary boy.
He wore simple grey sweatpants that the youngest scientist though would be more convenient than wearing a hospital gown or something stupid.
The boy's eyes were resting comfortably closed and his lips were slightly parted. He could have easily been mistaken for human if it weren't for the noticable panel where his heart should be.
The science pressed too fingers onto the panel. His artificial skin cool to the touch.
The panel popped open and she ignored the mass of other buttons only opting to press the one marked with an 1 which to them meant on.
Quickly she closed the panel and stepped back in case he went crazy like some of their previous batches.
After exactly 1 minute his eyes shot open.
The pupils were inhuman, they were a glowing electric blue colour and clearly looked technological.
"Hello? I'm doctor T, could you please tell me your name?"
His eyes locked on her flicking up and down repeatedly as of trying to scan her.
"I am the Mechanical Innovation Droid Organism, also know as M.I.D.O." His voice was shallow and void of any emotion.
"Well so far so good guys." She said to her companions.
"Now, do you have a quirk?"
He blinked, processing the information.
"A quirk is a special, superhuman ability that a person can have. Quirks are said to be the next stage of evolution in the human race. It is possible to diagnose a person as possessing or lacking a Quirk by analyzing the presence or absence of an extra joint in their pinky toe. People with only one joint will develop a Quirk while having two joints indicates that the person is Quirkless.
A person's Quirk will normally manifest around the age of four years old, although, it is possible for a child to be born with their Quirks already manifested, such was the case with-"
"Mido honey that's not what I asked." She said sweetly to the android teenager.
He stopped and looked at her once again, "You said..." He went into his own database of recent events, "'Now, do you have a quirk?" He said it in a female voice but it still wasn't very close to her own, especially with how even and toneless the words came out. His voice would probably be unnerving if it wasn't strangely calming.
"Yep! That's the line!" She said cheerfully.
He blinked slowly, processors in his artificial brain firing. "I'm just a robot, robots are unable to have quirks because they are something that belong to organic creatures."
"Mido do you know what we've been working on here?" She asked.
His eyes danced around the room taking everything in as fast as the pistons in his head could fire. After only a few brief moments he responded, 'You're scientists... You created me."
"That's correct! I see your brain is working perfectly, but here's where the most important bit comes in. Mido does the artificial quirk we tried to make, does it... can you use it?" She asked hesitantly still unsure of how stable the little robo boy was.
"An artificial quirk... that's never been made before."
"Mido please answer the question." She tried to get him to focus on the question she asked and not go rummaging around and exploring the personal database he has access to.
"I... believe so. It relates to the manipulation of brain waves." He finally said.
She gaped, had it really worked? No, she couldn't be too hopeful just yet.
The youngest scientist ran up and hugged Mido, practically bursting with joy.
"After so many tries we finally did it! Model X22/14C-GB-TCD-47 is a success!" He exclaims
Mido just stared at him trying to understand the action. Was he trying to tackle Mido? No his emotions are too far on the excitement scale for him to be feeling aggressive like that.
After a minute or so he lets go. "Mido it's just a hug."
Hug...
"A hug is a form of endearment, universal in human communities, in which two or more people put their arms around the neck, back, or waist of one another and hold each other closely. If more than two people are involved, it may be referred to as a group hug." Human communities... no wonder he didn't understand it. He wasn't like them, he wasn't human.
"Do you think you can show us your quirk. Pretty please?" She said next.
He nodded curtly. Based on how the quirk 'felt' he was pretty sure he had a grasp on how it worked.
Mido attempted to use his quirk on the tall man with glasses. He searched his database for what to do.
Finding an article on psychology he opened it and instantly all the knowledge of it poured into his unnatural brain.
The 6 types of basic emotions and their effects on human behavious. Perfect.
The second emotion on that list caught his eye. Sadness?
He attempted to amplify the man's sadness and it surprised everyone, including the man himself. M.i.d.o. looked him. So he was the first ever android with a quirk?
"Mido that was amazing!" She exclaimed as the man with glasses wiped the tear away.
"We've finally done it, after a decade of research it's been done!" She exclaims.
"Yes that's great and all but it's time for him to be properly programmed. You know the drill, we've been over it multiple times. Doctor F please page the boss and tell him it was a success, they can bring the handler in now." He instructs. The man with glasses strode over to Mido. His threatening aura and forceful strides would have made any normal person flinch but Mido didn't, he didn't even know what fear was yet.
"Time to start the verbal instructions." He said. "Doctor F where is the second panel located?" He asked making the short, older man head over and stand on his tippie toes. He used 2 fingers and pressed a spot on the back of Mido's skull making it swing open.
"The button is the mute, there's also a fingerprint scanner, that one activates to give verbal commands." He said going back to standing on his flat foot. "Good luck Mido." He said making the android nod simply.
Knowing what to do now the man with glasses went over to Mido and reached his hand inside Mido's head panel. The android could feel as he brushed over the mute button and placed his thumb on the fingerprint scanner.
"Verbal command mode activated: Certain authorities granted only." Mido ended up saying without trying meaning it was an automatic response.
"Alright Mido here are your instrutions."
"Date, Chihiro, recognized" Mido said automatically again. "Permission granted."
"Mido here are your instructions as stated by the Hero Public Safety Commission. You will take the entrance exam to UA High and get in easily" The threat behind his words were obvious to everyone, well everyone except the dense little android. "You will pass with straight 89% on every test, no exceptions, so your grades do not go high enough to be put into the interests of Nezu, I hear he's a cunning one. When the time comes you will get 10th place at the sports exam, good enough for the commission to recognize you but not draw nearly enough attention as the top 3. Once you get your provisional hero license on your first try you will report back to the coordinates accessible in your code to check back in with us so we can update our data."
Ace everything first try, that shouldn't be too difficult.
"Now for the rules about your handler. They are from the hero commission as well and they are the correct age to be going into UA. You will do whatever they say without questions, is that clear?"
"Yes." A short and simple reply is all Mido gives.
"Good, now if you somehow bypass your own code to go against commands, or if you reveal you aren't originally human your handler will either forcibly reboot you or simply power you off and take you back here to be inputted with new commands, the choice between the two lies with your handler."
"Understood."
"Now I will be telling you your cover story. You will be registered as having a robot, mutant type quirk. You already have better strength, speed, intellect, and senses than a regular human. Like a human, you too can also make these better but only slightly. You will not use your quirk dubbed, 'Suggestion' without commands to do so from your handler or there will be repercussions. The data we recieve won't be from using your quirk, it will only be the long term effects of having a quirk."
"Understood." He said again.
"And finally if your handler is incapacitated or cannot handle you at the moment you will go straight to Hawks, as he also takes order from the commissions."
"Understood."
Suddenly the big steel lab door opened and in entered a kid shorter than Izuku.
"Ah right on time. Welcome. Mido meet your handler..."
