Cake Pops and Bandages

Summary:

Shinsou Hitoshi has worked at Starbucks long enough to know some customers are just assholes. When he see's the cute new guy at the Dunkin Donuts next door crying on his break he decides to cheer him up.

Notes:

This is purely self-indulgent fluff. I'm a slut for coffee shop Au's of any kind and also this a modern quirkless AU and they use first names. Hope you like it amd thanks for taking the time to read it! I love comments so please feel free to scream at me in them!

Work Text:

Honestly, working at Starbucks is not as bad as people think it is. Sure, you get your fair share of Karen’s and Chad’s, but overall? People are either nice or quiet. Everyone in need of a caffeine or sugar fix before starting their day or as a peak-me-up. Something Hitoshi can very much relate to. Insomnia is a bitch, but he has access to caffeinated beverages all shift long so at least he can feed his addiction and keep himself awake.

Most days are blissfully uneventful. They have their regulars who get the exact same thing every day no changes, no substitutions. Then there’s the regulars who go back and forth between a couple of favorites, and then the more random customers who don’t come often enough or stick out enough to be memorable.

Wednesdays are slow days and therefor Hitoshi’s favorite day. The morning rush ends, and except for the occasional stay at home mom, and people indulging their addiction on their day off the coffee shop is empty. Hitoshi, and his three coworkers pass the time with music, gossip, and a little bit of sexual tension.

Ochaco is the Boston Harbor of tea; she even knows shit about the people who work at the Dunkin Donuts directly across from them. Hitoshi still finds it both hilarious and pathetic that two coffee chains are literally side by side, and despite that they are both usually equally as busy. Both chains have their own cult following basically so he can’t really say he’s surprised.

As for the sexual tension, that would be Izuku and Shoto’s fault. Izuku and Hitoshi have been close friends since they both started working at Starbucks two years ago. Ochaco came about a month later and the three were quick to insist on having all their shifts together. The manager only agreed because they honestly worked terrifyingly well together. Six months ago, they hired Shoto and Hitoshi has had to watch his poor best friend gay panic all day long. It’s obvious to Hitoshi and Ochaco that their friends are into each other. But unfortunately, it is not obvious to said friends who just keep flirting and panicking all shift long. Is it exhausting to watch? Yes. Is it hilarious? Double yes.

“Toshi! You should take your break before the rush of lunch regulars hit.” Izuku suggests as he cleans up the blenders and dishes from the morning rush.

“Good idea,” Hitoshi muses as he slips off his green apron with a huff. “I need a smoke before all the prissy office lady’s show up.” He pops into the breakroom to snatch his cigarettes from his bag and then slinks out through the backdoor.

It’s beautiful outside today and Hitoshi is only a little annoyed that he’ll be spending the majority of it at work. Its overcast and the clouds blotting the sky are all varying shades of grey. The wind is chilly, but it feels good through the fabric of his black turtleneck. Crisp red and orange leaves are scattered everywhere, tumbling in the wind like confetti. Autumn is Hitoshi’s favorite time of year; winter isn’t so bad, but fuck summer. Crazy heat twenty-four seven? No fucking thank you.

Hitoshi pulls the lighter from his back pocket, shielding his cigarette from the fall breeze as he lights it. The first drag is almost as good as the first sip of coffee, almost. Sighing out a long curl of smoke, Hitoshi fishes his phone out of his pocket. He’s just started mindlessly scrolling through social media when the soft sound of sniffling registers. When Hitoshi locates the origin of the sound, he can’t stop his jaw from falling open.

Across the parking lot, leaning up against the back at Exit door of Dunkin Donuts is the cutest blonde Hitoshi as ever laid eyes on. Even with fat tears streaking down his splotchy red cheeks he’s gorgeous. Hitoshi feels bad, he knows how the service industry can be, hell customers have made him cry before but this is a sin. Who could make someone that adorable cry? Normally Hitoshi prefers to mind his own business but seeing the adorable blonde crying just doesn’t sit right with him.

Snuffing out his cigarette and shaking his head at himself he strides back into work with determination. He spares a moment to look over the cake pops in the display. He has no idea what the blonde likes, but the lemon cake pop is yellow and reminds Hitoshi of his hair, so he picks that one.

“Um Hitoshi?” Izuku questions from his spot wiping down the counter. “What are you—”

“I’ll pay for it at the end of my shift,” Hitoshi mutters, cutting Izuku off as he slips the treat into a bag.

“That’s not what I—”

Whatever else Izuku was going to say is lost in the swing of the door as Hitoshi makes his way back outside. Thankfully, the blonde is still there. He’s perched himself on the curb, knees drawn up to his chest and rubbing furiously at his eyes in an attempt to stop the tears still slipping out. Hitoshi takes a deep breath and saunters over before his nerves can get the best of him.

At the sound of his feet on the concrete, the crying blonde glances up cheeks turning crimson with embarrassment at being caught outside crying his eyes out.

“Rough day?” Hitoshi asks as he sits down on the curb a few feet from the blonde.

“Umm yeah,” the blonde mutters through a sniffle, voice watery and quiet.

“Wanna talk about it?” Hitoshi asks, nerves creeping in as he fists the paper bag in his hand a bit too tightly.

“It’s okay, I don’t wanna bother you on your break. You work at the Starbucks, right?” The blonde asks, eyes trained on the ground.

“Yeah I do. And you’re not bothering me. I asked, didn’t I?” Hitoshi raises a brow, but the blonde still hasn’t looked up.

“Well, um yes, but—”

“I’m Hitoshi.” He interrupts before the blonde can finish his sentence.

“Oh, um, I’m Denki.” Denki’s voice is quiet, but he finally tears his gaze from the ground and Hitoshi has to bite his lip to keep from gasping. Hitoshi’s favorite color is purple obviously since his hair is, well, fucking purple, but maybe he could have a second favorite color. Maybe, just maybe canary yellow is the most beautiful color in the world.

“So,” Hitoshi starts, dragging his eyes away with a small smile, “what made someone who looks like the embodiment of sunshine so sad?” Hitoshi watches Denki’s cheeks turn pink with a satisfied smirk.

“It was–well honestly it’s stupid I-I over reacted is all.” Embarrassment still clings to his cheeks, but his bright eyes look dull yet again and Hitoshi just can’t have that.

“If it upset you then it isn’t stupid.” Hitoshi says smiling softly.

A tiny unsure smile graces Denki’s lips, but he nods, “I-I’m kinda new? So, I’m not very good at the drinks yet honestly. I picked Dunkin because the drinks are way less complicated than at Starbucks. Anyway, I-I messed up an order for an office today. I’m not supposed to be taking big orders like that yet, but we were slammed and I kinda had to. Well, the lady was really mad, and she—well she yelled at me a lot. Which I’m used to cause I’m kinda dumb, but she just kept calling me an idiot and I—” Denki cuts himself off with a sniffle and Hitoshi’s heart fucking breaks.

“Hey.” Hitoshi mutters softly to get Denki’s attention. The blonde hesitates before turning his watery gaze to Hitoshi, his bottom lip quivering slightly. “First of all, you’re not dumb. I know I don’t really know you, but just because you can’t do the same things at the same levels as other people doesn’t mean you’re stupid, okay?” Denki stares at him, red rimmed eyes wide with shock. He opens his mouth, probably to argue, but Hitoshi doesn’t give him the chance. “And second of all, you’re not overreacting. Nobody has the right to speak to you like that. Okay? You’re going to have shitty asshole customers that’s just the service industry but fuck them. At the end of they day they were just a bad moment. It’s okay to be upset about it Denki.”

Denki stares at him, his shock turning to awe before a blinding smile takes over his face. “Y–You’re really nice, ya know that?”

Hitoshi doesn’t really know how to respond because the guy in front of him has a smile like sunshine after rain and it is seriously fucking with both his heart and his head. He opens his mouth, aiming for witty and flirtatious when his phone alarm begins screaming obnoxiously to signal the end of his break.

Hitoshi growls out a sigh as he silences his alarm, “Sorry, my breaks over.”

Denki’s face falls a bit but he’s quick to cover it with a shy smile. “Thanks for listening, a-and for what you said. It, um, it really helped.”

“I’m glad.” Hitoshi smiled, reaching out to ruffle Denki’s golden hair. “And this is for you,” He holds out the slightly rumpled bag with a shy somewhat nervous smile of his own. Denki cocks his head to the side like a curious kitten but accepts the bag. Hitoshi doesn’t even realize he’s holding breath until he releases it at the sight of the gorgeous sunny smile that takes over Denki’s face when he pulls out the cake pop.

“I–you–this is for me?” Denki trips over his words, smile never leaving his face.

“Yeah,” Hitoshi grins, letting his nervousness fall away at the sight of Denki’s still bright smile. “I thought it might make you smile.”

Denki gives him a sheepish look as he holds the cake pop against his chest like it’s the eight wonder of the world, “Sorry you had to see me like that.”

“I’m not. Your crying face is cute,” He shrugs, smile teasing, “but your smiling face is even cuter.”

“C–Cute?” Denki stammers out, eyes wide and cheeks burning.

“Very cute,” He teases. Glancing unhappily over at his building to see Izuku standing at the door looking relived when he spots Hitoshi. “Do you always take your break at this time Sunshine?”

Denki splutters at the nickname, barely managing a nod in response as even his ears begin to turn red.

“Good, then I’ll see you tomorrow?” He asks, smile soft and voice a little unsure. He wants to see Denki again, but just because the little blonde has cute reactions doesn’t mean he actually wants anything to do with Hitoshi.

“Y–Yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow T–Toshi!” Denki’s cheeks are still red, but his smile is somehow even bigger and brighter than before.

Hitoshi’s own cheeks are tinged pink at the sudden but welcome nickname, “See you tomorrow Sunshine.”

***

Hitoshi will never admit it, but he’s been watching the clock almost desperately all morning. He really wants to see Denki again, but with each passing minute his heart feels like it might actually give out. He’s going to feel really stupid if he goes out there for his break and Denki’s not there, like really fucking stupid. But, if he doesn’t go out and Denki is there waiting for him—yep, no, definitely not, that would definitely upset the blonde and Hitoshi will not be responsible for more tears.

Hitoshi is distracted—obviously—so he’s not all that surprised when he fucks up a complicated order. He is however surprised when the lady calls, clearly very unhappy about his fuck and demands he remake it and bring it out to her car. Hitoshi has learned that its better to just go with an angry customers whims nine times out of ten cause honestly it isn’t worth the headache.

Quick but efficient, Hitoshi remakes the obnoxiously complicated cocktail of sugar and caffeine. He grabs a cookie from the display as an afterthought, free stuff tends to make people less angry. A quick glance outside, and he can see the black SUV he was told to look for has already pulled up to the front of the building.

Izuku and Ochaco shoot him and encouraging thumbs up as he shuffles out of the building with his best fake smile. He approaches the rolled down window of the SUV, “Hello ma’am I’m terribly sorry about your drink. I’ve remade it and included and chocolate chip cookie on the house for the inconvenience.” Hitoshi is always a little amazed at his own customer service voice, if he didn’t know better, he’d think he was possessed when he uses it.

“You should be sorry, I had to drive back here to have it fixed and now I’m going to be late for work.” The woman trills as she snatches the drink and treat from Hitoshi’s hand.

Hitoshi can feel his plastered-on smile falter and his eye twitch. “Again, I’m very sorry. If you’d like—” Hitoshi cuts himself off as the woman takes a dainty sip of her drink and immediately frowns. The frown quickly morphs into a face of disgust as she turns her glare from her drink to him.

“Seriously?” She exclaims, voice climbing with each syllable. “This is disgusting! Are you seriously so incompetent you couldn’t even get it right the second time? I don’t have time for morons who can’t do their very simple job!”

Fist bawled at his side, and a grimace where his–albeit fake–smile had been Hitoshi does his best to stay calm and agreeable. “I’m very sorry. I made the drink exactly how I was trained to make it and made very sure all your add ons and requests were followed.” Hitoshi realizes to late that he definitely worded that the wrong way, because now she looks even more pissed off.

“I don’t care if you think you made it the right way. I don’t like it so therefore you obviously didn’t. I want to speak to your manager; your attitude and the fact that you clearly aren’t even smart enough to make fucking coffee is disgusting.” She doesn’t even look at Hitoshi as she insults him, instead she pulls out her fucking phone and actually starts videotaping.

Hitoshi sucks in a breath so deep he secretly hopes his lungs will explode so that he doesn’t have to deal with this shit. “Unfortunately, right now the only manager on site is the shift manager,” Hitoshi takes a step back from the car and points at his own nametag with a grimace, “and that would be me.”

“Are you serious!” She’s screaming now, and people are definitely staring. Hitoshi can see a flash of green and a mixture of red and white out of the corner of his eye. His coworkers no doubt coming to see what the hell is going on and hopefully to rescue him.

“If you’d like I can issue you a refund and I can give you the next shift manager’s number, or the number for corporate if you’d rather contact them.” Hitoshi actually can’t believe his customer service voice is still intact, though his eye is one-hundred percent twitching non-stop.

“What I want is for you to shut up and make my fucking coffee right!” She yells, shoving the drink towards Hitoshi with a haughty glare.

Hitoshi feels it like a damn breaking the second he snaps. “Listen lady,” customer service voice gone and his bored scowl back where it belongs, “I have apologized. I have remade your drink. I have offered you other individuals to contact and a refund. I have gone the extra mile, but I will not stand here so you can call me names and swear at me, got it? They don’t pay me enough to stand here while you basically verbally abuse me Karen. Not even remotely enough.”

In hindsight Hitoshi should have seen it coming. The lady was red-faced and spluttering indignantly. She threatened to put the video she was recording all over the internet, saying she was going to get him fired. Hitoshi only offered her a shrug in response, which was also a bad move. He watched her eyes harden and her mouth pull up in a rather vicious smirk. Really, after all his time in the service industry he should have seen it coming.

She pulled her drink back into her car, and for a brief moment Hitoshi thought she’d just take the stupid drink and fuck off. He watched confused as she pulled the lid off rather quickly for someone who had talons where her fingernails should be, and before Hitoshi could even react, she’d tossed the cup of still hot coffee right at him.

He heard the screech of tires as she peeled out of the parking lot, but Hitoshi was too busy hissing at the pain of hot coffee on his skin. She’d thankfully missed his face, but the scalding liquid seeped through his shirt and apron too sting the skin of his chest and neck. Fuck that shit hurt.

His coworkers burst through the door and to his side immediately.

“Ohmygod Hitoshi! Are you okay?” Izuku squawks, as he quickly tugs Hitoshi back inside.

“I can’t believe she just did that! What a bitch!” Ochaco is behind him quickly untying his apron as they walk.

“Don’t put ice on that. Trust me. Burns and ice do not go together.” Shoto supplies, as he holds the breakroom door open for Hitoshi and Izuku to squeeze through. Hitoshi would laugh at his friends attempt at humor if he wasn’t in so much pain. Hitoshi stands dumbly in the middle of the coffee shop as Izuku grabs the first aid kit and Ochaco calls the store manager to explain what happened.

“Toshi!” Denki tumbles through the front door with watery eyes and a concerned frown.

Hitoshi’s brain short-circuits as the blonde rushes up to him and immediately starts undoing the buttons of his shirt and pushing the offending piece of clothing to the floor.

“D-Denki, what are you—” Hitoshi cuts himself off with a hiss as his scalded skin is exposed to the air conditioned coffee shop.

“Shh, it’s okay,” Denki makes grabby hands for the First aid kit as soon as he spots Izuku, “I used to work at a daycare so I have first aid training.” Denki steers a still dumb-struck Hitoshi to a chair and pops open the kit with a furrowed brow. “I need a cup of water, and a soft cloth. Cool but not cold, okay?” Denki asks no one in particular, but Shoto is quick to scamper off to the back to find a clean towel.

“Its fine Denki, it’s not that bad.” Hitoshi tries to reassure the blonde, if only to get his pretty smile back on his even prettier face. Denki only frowns harder, and one glance at himself is enough to know why. His usually pale skin is pink and slightly swollen in large patches all over his torso.

“Here,” Shoto hands over the water and towel, “do you need anything else?”

“No, thank you” Denki smiles at him, before turning back to Hitoshi. “This might sting a bit okay?” Denki dips the cloth into the water before wringing it out over Hitoshi’s chest. “Normally, you’d use running water, but well this will have to do.” Hitoshi can only nod as he sinks his teeth into his bottom lip at the sharp sting.

“Tenya is on his way in. He’s gonna take over your shift for you.” Ochaco calls from behind the counter. “He also wants to call the police, but I told him you probably didn’t want that.”

“You’re damn right I—OW FUCK!” Hitoshi’s hands shoot out on their own to grip at Denki’s shirt for support.

“Sorry sorry, almost done I promise.” Denki’s voice is soothing as he gently pats the scalded skin dry. “You should thank whoever is in charge of stocking your first aid kit,” Denki chirps as he sets the kit aside and kneels down in front of Hitoshi. “Burn pads are a must, but most people don’t know about them.”

“I’ll make sure to pass the praise along to Tenya,” Hitoshi grits out through clenched teeth. He fists the fabric of Denki’s shirt between his fingers like a lifeline at the first touch of cool clear bandage to his damaged skin. Denki’s touch is feather light against Hitoshi’s scalded skin as he presses the bandages in to place.

“D-Denki.” Hitoshi’s voice is shaky and his fingers are starting to ache with how tightly he’s holding onto the blonde.

“I’m right here Toshi. Almost done. You’re doing so well,” Denki praises as he places a bandage over a particularly bad section of swollen skin right above Hitoshi’s heart.

It hurts. It actually really fucking hurts, compared to the other spots. Hitoshi thinks it’s probably where the coffee made contact first, but he can’t focus enough to try and recall. With a pained groan, he lets his head drop onto Denki’s shoulder as the blonde continues applying bandage after bandage to his chest. The bandages are way too fucking small in his opinion, but the immediate cooling and soothing effect they have is extremely welcome.

Denki keeps muttering soft words right into his ear and running a soothing hand up and down his back. It feels nice and works as an amazing distraction from the—thankfully—fading sting in his skin. Now that his mind can focus on more than the pain it chooses of course to focus on the position he’s in. Shirtless, fingers still buried in Denki’s shirt with his head resting on his shoulder as the blonde traces gentle fingers down his back in the middle of a fucking Starbucks. He can feel his cheeks burning, and he knows. He just knows his friends are pretending not to but they’re definitely watching them.

“Toshi?” Denki pulls away slightly with a look of concern, “What’s wrong? You went all stiff all the sudden, does it hurt really bad still?”

Hitoshi is quick to try and hide his flaming cheeks in Denki’s neck. “M’ embarrassed,” He mutters quietly against Denki’s skin. Denki giggles in response and the sound goes straight to Hitoshi’s very not straight heart.

“Toshi, you have nothing to be—“

“Hitoshi!” The front door flies open and two very concerned looking men saunter in sporting identical scowls.

“Dad? Pops?” Hitoshi pulls away from Denki too fast, burned skin screaming in protest. “What are you doing here?”

“Ah,” Izuku scratches at his neck sheepishly, “sorry Hitoshi, I called them. Tenya insisted you needed to go get it looked at by a professional. Plus you probably shouldn’t drive like that.”

Hitoshi glares half-heartedly at his best friend before sighing and turning to face both of his dads. “Stop looking at me like that, it’s not that bad.”

“Bad or not, you’re still going to have it looked at dumbass.” His dad quipped, looking just as tired as usual, but now accompanied by a good bit of concern.

“Shouta! Don’t call our son names when he’s just been injured!”

Hitoshi sighs, shaking his head slightly as his dad’s bicker back and forth. He turns back to Denki, who’s been quiet since his dads burst through the door. The blonde has his gaze stubbornly glued to the floor.

“Denks?” Hitoshi reaches out and gently bops Denki on the nose. The blonde’s head jerks up at the contact, cheeks tinged a sweet shade of pink. “Sorry, this isn’t exactly how I wanted our break date to go.”

“D-Date?” Denki stammers out, blush creeping all the way to the tips of his ears adorably.

“Hitoshi, just give the poor kid your number already so we can go. You’re getting that looked at whether you like it or not.”

“Shouta! You ruined their moment!”

Hitoshi whips his head around to pin his dad’s with a twitching glare, “Can the two of you please just wait in the car.” His dad gives him the ‘you have five minutes’ look while his pops shoots him a pair of finger guns before disappearing out the front door. Hitoshi turns around to Denki holding out his discarded shirt with a soft smile.

“Your dad’s are cute.” Denki giggles as he pushes Hitoshi’s shirt into his hands. “They’re also right, you should give me your number.”

Hitoshi’s mouth pops open in shock before a smirk takes over his features, “Yeah Sunshine? You want my number?” Hitoshi leans forward, bending slightly to look directly into Denki’s golden eyes. Denki bites at his bottom lip, gaze turning shy as he gives a soft nod in response.

Hitoshi leans back with a satisfied smile and slips his phone out of his back pocket. He swipes his fingers quickly across the screen to unlock it. He grins as he taps something into it before handing it over to Denki.

The blush that sweeps across Denki’s cheeks and down his neck as he types his number into Hitoshi’s phone is captivating. He hands it back with a honey-sweet smile that has Hitoshi’s heart stuttering in his chest.

“I’ll text you Sunshine. Try to have a good shift okay?” Hitoshi waits for Denki’s soft nod and shy ‘okay Toshi’ before heading for the door.

“Bye assholes, I’ll text you after I see the doctor! Tell Tenya I said thanks.” Hitoshi heads out of the coffee shop to a chorus of bye’s and I love you’s, the smile never leaving his face.

Three hours later Hitoshi is finally home armed with bandages and burn ointment as well as a recommendation to take a week off of work. Hitoshi does so begrudgingly. His paycheck is going to suck and now he won’t get to see Denki for a week. Sighing, he unlocks his phone and pulls up Denki’s contact.

[4:20PM]

Hey Sunshine just got back from the doctors

Sunshine [4:22PM]

Oh gosh, how was it??? The burns didn’t look too bad but like I’m definitely not a doct9ir??

Hitoshi smiles at the spelling error and multitude of question marks; the way Denki texts is even adorable what the hell?

[4:24PM]

Don’t worry, Doc said a week off work and some burn cream and I’ll be good as new.

[4:25PM]

He said the burn near the top is gonna be the slowest to heal, but nothing to worry about.

Sunshine [4:30PM]

Thank god! I was really worried ya know….

Sunshine [4:30PM]

Also fuck that lady! I hope she comes to Dunkin so I can spit in her coffee ω

Hitoshi can’t stop the laugh that bubbles out of him, of course Denki uses those kinds of emoji’s. Adorable. He’s too fucking adorable.

[4:32PM]

Aw you’d spit in someone’s coffee for me? And I’m sorry I worried you.

[4:32PM]

How’d you even know it happened?

Sunshine [4:35PM]

Ummm welllll

Sunshine [4:35PM]

Mina saw you outside and was like narraroting what was happening and as soon as she said that lady poured coffee on you I just

Sunshine [4:36PM]

I just kinda??? Ran out???

“H-Hello?”

“Denki, you sweet goofball. Did you run out of work, still clocked in, without even asking just to check on me?” Hitoshi asks, smile evident in his voice.

“I, umm, yes?” Denki sounds equal parts nervous and embarrassed. “What else was I supposed to do Toshi? I was worried!”

“Cute,” Hitoshi chuckles, shifting on his bed, “you are so fucking cute.” He hears a squeak on the other end that only serves to make him smile even harder.

It’s quiet between them for a few moments, until Denki clears his throat, “Toshi?”

“Yeah Sunshine?”

“Do you still want to go on that break date with me?” Denki’s voice is soft but hopeful.

“Hmmm, nope.” Hitoshi hears Denki gasp, but doesn’t give him time to respond. “I want to go on a real date with you.”

It’s painfully silent for a whole ten seconds and then, “HITOSHI! THAT WAS SO MEAN! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO ME? I’M FRAGILE!”

“I’m sorry Sunshine don’t be mad. I’ll make it up to you.”

“You better you big jerk! I thought my heart was gonna throw up!”

Hitoshi ended up needing two weeks off from work in the end. He healed up nicely everywhere except the spot right over his heart, which now had a permanent scar. The scar was pink and puckered but it didn’t hurt anymore, and Hitoshi cold finally go back to work. More importantly, he could finally take Denki on out on their first date. He loved their phone calls, facetimes, and texts, but he wanted to be with him. Hold doors open for him, and feed him bites of food off his fork and all that romantic shit he would normally gag at.

“Okay Hitoshi, Deep breath and knock on the door.” Hitoshi stares at Denki’s apartment door and groans. “Just knock.” The door as two little embellishments on it that look like eyes squinting  at him, and great now the door is judging him. “Just fucking knock damn it,” Hitoshi slams his knuckles into the door with an embarrassing yelp. Fuck that hurt.

It feels like an eternity before he hears the sound of footsteps, and the door swings open. Denki looks painfully cute in a pastel yellow cable knit sweater that falls to his knees and white leggings. The smile that stretches across his face is breathtaking. Hitoshi’s got it bad, and he couldn’t be happier.

“Hey Toshi.” Denki snags his bottom lip between his teeth as he steps into Hitoshi’s personal space.

“Hey Sunshine.” Hitoshi takes a step back, chuckling as Denki’s confused expression turns to awe as he pulls a bouquet of sunflowers from behind his back. “Sunflowers for my Sunshine.”

Denki’s eyes are practically sparkling as he takes the bouquet with gentle hands, “Toshi, they’re beautiful!”

“Yeah,” Hitoshi leans forward, gently guiding Denki’s face up by his chin, “you are.”

Denki smiles, cheeks already turning pink as he leans up onto his tiptoes, “Kiss me?”

“Gladly Sunshine.”
