Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

'Before I stand down as ruler of the North and hand the crown to you, I want you to marry Suppasit'

The words of his grandfather replayed in his head over and over again. I was to be married?! He couldn't be married, marriage wasn't something he wanted. His work was far more important than having a wife. He would talk to his family about this, try to get them to go around his grandfathers words and let him rule single.

Finding his parents in the dinning hall, discussing what, he doesn't know. "Your Highnesses?", the pair look at their eldest child upon hearing his questioning voice, his mother was the first to answer him, "yes darling?" giving full attention to her son. Mew was about to open his mouth and talk before his father cuts him off, "If it is about marriage, please have a seat, we need to talk about it with you." his fathers voice was stern and Mew had gained a little hope that his parents will agree with him. Walking swiftly over to his parents, sitting across from them, not even giving his parents time to talk before he started his rant about not wanting to marry anyone and wanting to just rule alone. He has been thinking hard about for a while, he had his whole speech planned out. When he finally stopped talking, he looked back to his parents in hopes they would agree with him.

Seeing his parents smile, his hopes grew more, "we knew you'd say that," says his mother after a while, smiling back to his parents, "So we arranged a marriage for you." finished his father. The princes face fell to a shocked expression. His parents couldn't be serious, this had to be a joke. Judging by the serious look of his father, he knew it wasn't. "No, no you can't, cancel the proposal," Mew tried but to his dismay, "I'm sorry son, but we arranged this a long time ago and the Southern Kingdom already agreed for you to marry their youngest." The young prince stared in disbelief at his parents.

"we were even invited down to the southern kingdom to celebrate the engagement,"

All Mew could do was hold his head in his hands, sighing to himself. His father continued talking, but at that point Mew was no longer listening. How could he? His parents planned out his future for him, but he couldn't be mad, he knew this wasn't up to him. He knew he had to marry and bare a child in order to continue the family line. It was his duty and he had to accept it.

"....Leaving in and hour." His mother states with a smile.

Mew shakes his head, Oh shit what did she say? Mew looks back up to his mother and smiles sheepishly, "leaving to where in an hour?" Looking back and forth between his parents. His mother laughed softly, "Leaving to the southern kingdom of course," His mother smiled sweetly, "we're meeting your bride to be for the celebration today." Mew felt his mouth open in shock.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~After the travel to the south~~
Staring out the car window, he weighted his options...Maybe she wouldn't want to marry him either, maybe she would want us to only be a couple to the public, maybe-
He didn't get to finish his thought when he felt the car come to a stop, the driver turned to the family before speaking, "The Traipipattanapong family would love to thank you for coming to this celebration for the engagement," Mew looks back out the window again (angsty teen detected), the driver continued a spiel of thanks and welcomes, he ended with telling the family to enjoy the city before going to the castle for the feast.
Mew gets out of the car first, only to be met with a surprising amount of heat as the sun shone high in the sky. It was a change from the colder north, it was nice there as well but it was never this hot. His family also gets out of the car and comments on the heat, his mother was a fan, his Father however was not. the family was also given an escort to walk them around the city, as well as to watch them to make sure nothing happens to the family while being out and about in the city. The prince was ready to get this day over with, he just wanted to meet the girl he was supposed to marry and then go home. Can we please hurry this up, I have work to do at home. Mew was more than annoyed. He wasn't even listening to the escort as he was talking and started to walk off, his mother and father following.
Mew hadn't noticed yet, his parents leaving, his face is void of emotion. His handsome features drawing the attention of many on lookers. When he finally noticed his parents left, he swiftly rushed after them, catching up in no time, given his high and long stride.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

The city was absolutely beautiful, full of lush greenery and right next to the ocean, it an absolute sight to see. There was a river running right through the streets that had many canoes and boats and vendors along it. The tall buildings had little to no flaws in the construction, seeming that the city took pride in its image. Many flower arrangements adorned the street corners, in beautiful pink, yellow, and white colors with small hints of gold in the vases and ribbons. Mew actually started to love the city, the environment and the people there both being pleasant.

They stopped by some vendors and the escort had suggested they pick something to try and that the kingdom would pay for it, Mew himself wasn't hungry but he found a small vendor selling hair pieces and he decided to get something for his sister, who stayed home. Scanning over the small selection, his eyes landing on a small gold head piece. It was shaped like the crest of the north in soft blue and white colors. Picking up the small object, he smiles at the vendor handing it to the old man, asking for a price. The old vendor only smiled, "For you? Its free, enjoy your stay here your highness." The man put the small head piece in a bag and handing it back to Mew. Mew's smile grew wider and thanked the man for his kindness, walking away to sit at the table the escort and guard told him to sit. Putting the gift in his bag, now taking in the sights of the city.

It was about 2 in the afternoon by now, only and hour more and he'd meet his in-laws and bride to be. He probably be more excited then he is, but he doesn't want this. He's hoping the bride doesn't either and they both could come to an agreement and the both accept it as something only political and possibly have an heir to the thrown.

Mew is pulled out of his thoughts as he gets his in the back with a soccer ball. Mew is a little taken aback by it, snapping his head to the direction the ball came from. The group of boys couldn't have been more than 18 years of age, but what caught his attention was the tall boy in the middle snickering, his face in a half smirk. The boy was tall, about his own height, had tan skin and dark chocolatey brown hair about medium in length. The boy was also in someway handsome. Mew scowled at the group, wanting to call them out but the tall tanned boy in the middle beat him to it, "OH! I'm sooo Sorry sir!," the boys smirk grew wider, "I didn't see you there! You gotta' be more careful than that! Oh wait! I forget! you must be a northerner!" the group start laughing, spewing out half insults along the lines of, 'oh i dropped my cup of tea', 'oh look at me I'm so rich i wear suits as casual dress'. They weren't even good insults.

Mew stands up, ready to just walk away and find his parents, when he gets his in the back with another ball. He glares back to the group, that little brat.., the group in question running laughing. The prince started to go after them, but decided it wasn't worth his time and that he was above that. His parents and escort came back and they started for the castle.

That drive was a lot shorter than the one into the city itself, his mood was soured by that group of boys from earlier. The driver told him not to be too worried about it and that the kids in the town were trouble makers. Mew just nodded along, watching the streets start to get crowded as the car rode a long to the castle. They must know who we are, he thinks to himself watching the crowd wave at the car. The crowd suddenly disappeared and was replaced with the castles gardens and the gate was shut.

The castle was absolutely beautiful. It was decorated in preps to the celebration with both the southern and northern colors, the northern crest was even on a banner adorned with many of the same flowers that the streets were lined with. Mew no longer has the heart to say he didn't want to marry, he'll simple only do this for political reasons.

If he thought that the outside of the castle was beautiful, the inside was down right gorgeous. The walls, the ceiling, even the stair ways were all decorated in the same soft white, yellow, pink and gold colors as the flowers. Straightening up his suit jacket following his parents into the dinning hall where he was to meet his bride and her family. They came up to big old oak door, that swung open slowly as the people who opened it greeted them with a bow, gesturing for them to go sit at the table. From here he can see their highnesses. The Queen having a soft, loving look about her as she laid eyes on Mew, giving him a big welcoming smile. Her smile caused her eyes to disappear slightly, her hair was pulled back out of her face in a neat bun. It showed off her beautiful round face. The king had strong handsome features, he was also smiling at Mew. Next to them was the princess that he'd long waited to meet. Her long dark hair framed her delicate face extremely well, the perfect mash up of both parents. She was stunningly beautiful.

Sitting across from the Traipipattanapong family, the two groups exchange greetings. The king spoke first, "Thank you so much for coming down here for this celebration of the new couple," the king raised his glass, "may you both find happiness in the long future ahead of you both." He smiled once again drink from the glass, his parents doing the same. His mother smiles at the princess, nodding slightly to her, "It's nice to finally meet the one my son is going to marry." The queen from the other side of the table and shook her head, "oh, she's not the one your son will marry," now this caught Mew's attention, his mother also looked puzzled, "Nattarika is already married, she wanted to meet you as well. Kana should be down any moment." Kana.. What a pretty name.

The doors open again, the queen smiled, "Kana.." at that they all turned to face Kana. All expecting to see a young beautiful princess, were faced with tall, tan, bounced brown haired prince. The king stood up, "Allow me to introduce you to Kanawut, our youngest." Mew's parents look at him in disbelief, his father was first to speak again, " I think there has been some mistake.."

"nonsense!" the king smiled, "you asked to marry the youngest and he," the king gestures to the young prince in the doorway, "is our youngest child." the king smiles once again, sitting back down. Kanawut joined them at the table as Mew finally put two and two together as he realized, the boy sitting across from him is the same boy who threw soccer balls at his back. His stare grew cold when Kana just smiled at him, but it wasn't a pleasant smile, it was more of a shit eating grin. Their parents carried on with their conversation, as his parents had some concerns. As they should.

Their parents left them alone while they went off to set up dates and to talk more about the wedding. Mew glares at the brown haired boy across from him and the latter stares back with the same shit eating grin.

"I was expecting a woman, not a bratty child." Mew finally states. Kana just laughs at Mew, "Oh well, now you're stuck with me Suppasit~" Mew didn't like the way he said his name, it gave him chills and not the good kind. They stay in silence for a long while before Kana sighs "You're extremely boring, you know that right?"

"I'm not talking to the person who assaulted me with a soccer ball." Mew snaps back, which only makes the other scoff, " I said I was sorry."

"No, you threw a sarcastic comment and then insulted me for being from the north." Kana laughs still, "You need to take a joke."

The conversation of their parents can be heard as they are coming back to the dinning hall. He can still hear his mothers worried questions for the other couple. "But, how will they produce an heir? Surely you don't think they'd adopt?" His fathers worried question made it to both of their ears to which Kanawut's mother replied, " oh there wont be a problem with that."

They wanted us to adopt? Mew was of sorts flabbergasted, looking back to the one across from him. Mew noticed the change in expression. It went from the cocky child from not to long ago to one that was sort of dejected and put off. Kanawut looked down to his hands before getting up, giving a respectful wai to Mew's parents before turning to Mew again, "It was nice to meet you P'Mew, you can call me Nong Gulf." With that and Gulf was gone once again. Mew was flabbergasted by the sudden change of mood from the younger male.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Heading back home after the celebration had ended, and hearing the news that Gulf going to come live with them until the wedding, which was in 3 months. Mew's mood had turned sour, he already detested his fiancé. But he knew that this wouldn't be the last he would see the bratiness of the young prince, and that the road ahead is going to be a long one.
