Chapter Text
Izuku had been walking home from school when he was crossing the bridge over the train tracks and stopped, he stood for a moment before continuing his walk home. 'Not like it would do anything, it would just make everyone happy.' He thought as he walked numbly, walking the streets while staring at his shoes had become a habit of his ever since Kachan had said those words to him.
"I know a way you could be a hero one day, take a swan dive off the roof and pray you have a quirk in your next life." (A/N: I changed it just a little bit, tried to keep it to the original but also wanted to fit it better to my style.)
The words echoed in his head almost everyday and he just let them, he didn't do anything but ignore them because what happened at school was weak compared to what happened behind closed doors. As Izuku walked up the steps to his apartment, he clenched his trembling hand and quickly took anything he didn't want ruined and put it in a little hiding spot he found before opening the door to be greeted by his mother and father.
"Good afternoon mother, father," He bowed slightly before taking off his shoes and putting on his house slippers and going to the kitchen to prepare dinner so it wouldn't be bad tonight.
"You were right on time so as long as you don't mess up, you know the rules." His mother spoke softly but behind the softness was a monster who took enjoyment in beating him.
"Yes mother, would you like coffee or tea tonight?" He faced his parents before making his way to see what he could make for dinner.
"Tea will be fine, have dinner done in an hour." Izuku nodded and bowed before going back to doing what he was doing and his parents left to the living room. He let out a sigh and put the teapot on to boil water, while the water was boiling he began preparations to make katsudon. Exactly an hour later, his parents returned to the kitchen to see him setting everything on the table. "Good, we were about to tell you time was up. You ruined the fun," His mother pouted a little and his father just stood there staring the boy down.
"I made katsudon how you like it," Izuku said quietly before bowing to his parents and leaving the room to go to his bedroom. He isn't allowed to eat with them, quirkless disappointments don't get the privilege of eating with their parents who have to deal with them. 'I wish I could just get out of here somehow.' He thought before setting off to do his school work so he wouldn't get in trouble for not having it done. They could never punish him for his grades because he was ahead in his classes by a few years, along with Kachan but that didn't matter.
After finishing his school work, Izuku laid on his makeshift bed on the floor which consisted of a blanket, pillow, and a couple hoodies to add cushion for his back. He stared at the ceiling listening to the same thoughts that ran through his head everyday until the sun made its appearance before getting up and doing the same thing he did every morning, take a shower, get dressed, make his parents breakfast, and go to school without food, it was a schedule he had known by heart and it never changed.
He had a feeling deep in his gut that today wasn't going to be good and when he got to school it wasn't too bad. Bakugo didn't bother him as much as the other kids for once, but he got pushed too far this time.
"Just go jump off the roof already, quirkless loser!" A kid yelled and Izuku didn't even react. The greenette started walking towards the staircase without thinking and started walking up to the rooftop, Bakugo yelling after him but the boy couldn't hear anything except the thoughts.
'Quirkless'
'Useless'
'Worthless'
'Go die'
'Deku'
Izuku didn't comprehend when he was standing on the edge of the roof about to jump when a hand grabbed his wrist and pulled him back. "Stupid, what were you thinking?" Bakugo said, not in his usual shout but still as angry as usual with a hint of worry.
"What you told be to." Was all Izuku said before pulling his wrist out of the blond's hold and walking away. The rest of the school day, nobody even bothered to talk to him. When school was over, the greenette walked his usual way home and ran into someone, he looked up and froze before the man spoke.
"Are you okay there young boy?" All might spoke loudly as ever and Izuku hid the fact that he flinched with a smile.
"Y-yes, oh my god. Can I ask you something?" He said quickly before looking at the time, he was so in trouble for being late but at this point it was worth it.
"Of course, young boy, be quick though." Was the response Izuku got and he took a deep breath before meeting the mans eyes.
"C-can I still become a hero, even though I am quirkless?" Izuku asked kinda hesitantly and All Might merely chuckled as if the boy was joking.
"You can't be serious, of course you can't be a hero without a quirk." Was all the man said before leaving the boy with his thoughts once again. Izuku numbly walked the rest of the way home and didn't even comprehend when he had stopped in front of his apartment door.
"That better have been worth me being late," Izuku mumbled to himself before opening the door to an empty house and freezing completely. "What?" He walked into the apartment that had been full when he left to see a single not laying on the counter. The boy picked up the note and sat against the counter to read it.
"Your father and I left, we couldn't stand living with a worthless being such as yourself any longer. You being quirkless has ruined our lives so now we are leaving to make ourselves happy again. The apartment is paid for, only for a year and then you are stuck figuring shit out for yourself, you're lucky we were that generous. Good luck."
It was a short note but it hurt so bad to read it, he had nothing left. He was alone and didn't know what to do so he did the only thing he could think of, Izuku left the apartment and walked to the bridge where he always thought about jumping but never did. It was dark when he got there and nobody was out so he just sat there thinking for a while, it was nice out and he would go back to the apartment when he got tired but for now he needed to be outside and away from there.
As the week progressed, Izuku only got about an hour of sleep and at one meal in all. He wasn't doing too good and nobody was bothering him anymore after his stunt before, afraid they would get caught for causing a kid to commit suicide. Bakugo quit talking to him completely and Izuku didn't care, he didn't care about anything except getting the day over with just to stare at the same wall again. Nobody knew today would be his last day attending the junior high though because he didn't tell anyone, he just left and never went back. Never stepping foot out of his apartment unless it was to practice self-defense or go to the library to keep himself entertained during the day.
Izuku had the same schedule everyday for an entire year before he finally decided to give up. He finally had enough and couldn't take the pain anymore, his wrists being covered in both scars, new and old, and cut, both fresh and healing. He couldn't take it anymore, where did he go wrong, what could he have done better, why did nobody like him.
Instead of going to the bridge like he had every night for the past year, he went to one of the highest rooftops in a dark part of town that he thought no hero would be patrolling and sat on the ledge watching the people below go about their night as normal. He only turned around when he heard people on the rooftop behind him and looked to see who it was but was met with two heros and regretted it instantly.
"If you're here to talk be down then just leave." Was all Izuku said before turning back around and sliding ever closer to the edge than before. He threw a warning glance to the underground hero who hid in the shadows and the man stepped out and pulled the other aside.
"You're treading on thin ice here, you need to be careful." Was all the underground hero said before disappearing and leaving the loud hero with the boy.
"Why are you even here?" The boy asked annoyed as he watched the people below. "You should be focusing on major crime and not some quirkless suicide waiting to happen." Present Mic froze when the boy said that and looked at him before stepping forward a little and sitting on the ground quietly.
"I was where you are once." The blond said and the greenette turned to look at the hero. "My family doesn't exactly like my quirk because it is a voice quirk and I'm loud." The greenette turned back around and looked at the people walking around below. "I was told to kill myself many times before too, by people I thought were my friends." That caught Izuku off guard and he turned around to face the hero hesitantly.
"Why are you telling me this?" He asked cautiously. The hero looked at him and smiled sadly before looking up to the stars and quietly speaking.
"I figured you could use someone who you could relate to." The hero smiled sadly at the boy before speaking again. "Would you mind telling me why you decided to come here?"
"Well," Izuku started and sighed. "I was 'diagnosed' as quirkless when I was four which also started the beginning of being both abused by my parents and being bullied at school. It kept up until a year ago when my parents decided to leave me and I quit going to school because I'm ahead anyways." He said calmly, not letting the mask slip that he didn't care about anything. "I've been alone the entire year and I'm just done, I don't want to be here anymore. I can't be a hero without a quirk." He said and looked up at the stars.
"Who said you couldn't become a hero without a quirk?" Present Mic asked and Izuku could hear the man come a little closer and flinched.
"Everyone. All Might laughed when I asked him." The boy spoke venomously and the hero stilled when he heard All Might and a dark aura surrounded them.
"I am going to murder a man." Eraserhead spoke out of nowhere and spooked the boy on the edge of the roof. "Sorry kid, didn't mean to spook you." Izuku shrugged it off and laid back to stare at the stars and sighed.
"Why does everyone leave me? They leave me to suffer alone and I hate it, I hate everyone and everything." Izuku curled up and shook after saying that before standing up and standing over the edge while looking at the hero in front of him. "I have nothing left."
"I'm not going to leave you. You're never going to have to suffer by yourself again, I promise." Present Mic spoke gently to the boy who was looking at him. "Now will you step away from the edge little listener?"
