Work Text:
Chuuya let out a soft grumble as his eyes slowly slipped open, frowning as the sun was streaming through the blinds on his and Kunikida’s bedroom. That… wasn’t right. What happened to his alarm clock? He’d set it for 5am, having agreed to go into work early, yet the clock clearly stated that it was now 8:30am.
The opposite side of the bed was empty, and already starting to go cold as he ran his hand over the blankets where the blonde had slept beside him the previous night. Huh.
Pushing himself to sit up, he yawned and ran his fingers through his unruly, long ginger curls, brushing stray strands out of his eyes. Blinking blearily, he glanced around, before slipping out of bed. Automatically, he pulled the sheets up and made the bed, keeping it neat so Kunikida didn’t grumble at him later.
That done, he made sure the shirt he wore (one of Kunikida’s of course) still covered at least his ass. This may be their apartment, but he still hadn’t quite gotten to the stage of being comfortable walking around fully naked with someone else around. They’d only been living together a couple of months, although they’d been dating for roughly two years before that.
Kunikida glanced up as he heard soft footsteps padding into the kitchen. All the blonde wore was a set of sweat pants and an apron over a loose shirt, hair loose and flowing down instead of in its usual ponytail. He smiled at the sight of his still clearly sleepy boyfriend, giving a soft chuckle. It was always an adorable sight.
“Morning, Chuuya.”
“Did you turn off my alarm?”
Kunikida simply gave a shrug, tips of his ears turning as pink as his cheeks, hesitating briefly before he answered the redhead.
“...Dazai told me you’d been working far too much, so he took care of getting you the day off and the President gave me today off to spend with you.” He explained sheepishly, pushing his glasses up his nose, a clear sign of whenever he was even slightly nervous.
Chuuya blinked, staring rather dumbfounded. Well, that hadn’t been what he’d expected. But then he noticed the date on the calendar hung up on the wall. Oh. His stomach dropped, and he swallowed.
Shit.
Valentine’s Day.
“...Kunikida, I-”
Kunikida shook his head, setting down the stirring spoon and making his way over to Chuuya, resting a hand on his cheek. Leaning in, he pressed a tender kiss to his lips, effectively silencing him for the moment.
“It’s okay. I know you’re still not used to that day. Neither am I, I uh- I got some advice from someone, and will you let me treat you today?” The request was so shy, but it was so sincere it made Chuuya’s breath catch.
“If… you’re sure.” He finally murmured, sliding his arms up and around Kunikida’s shoulders as he leaned up on his toes. How could he say no to such a request?
Kunikida lifted Chuuya way too easily for the ginger’s liking, carefully sitting him at the kitchen table, brushing a strand from those pink cheeks. He reluctantly moved away from his boyfriend, only to plate up the breakfast he’d been cooking. It was then placed in front of Chuuya, along with coffee and a glass of orange juice.
Pressing a kiss to the side of Chuuya’s head, Kunikida smiled softly at the quiet noise that elicited from him.
“Eat up. I’ll go set up surprise number two, okay?”
Chuuya looked up at him, raising an eyebrow. Another surprise? Well okay. He merely gave a nod, thanking him quietly as he started to eat. It was a western style breakfast, something the ginger had mentioned wanting to try at some point, and he was surprised that Kunikida had remembered the off-handed comment. It meant a lot to him, though.
Kunikida padded out of the kitchen, having already had some breakfast for himself. He made his way into the bathroom, running a hot bath and adding a couple of scents he knew his boyfriend loved. Lavender and vanilla, ones he’d seen Chuuya use himself before. Though he refused to use candles around the room, still deeming those a hazard, but he did attempt to scatter a few flower petals from the hallway towards the bathroom and over to the edge of the bath.
They could be swept up later on, and wouldn’t make too much of a mess. Plus he’d found out that though Chuuya got flustered easily with romance, he enjoyed it immensely. Not that either of them were entirely used to it, and they’d both taken some time to get comfortable with even attempting such things. It was all brand new territory, even now they were still exploring new romance things with each other.
Back in the kitchen, Chuuya easily finished his breakfast, downing his orange juice and coffee with a content little sigh. He placed his dishes in the sink after rinsing them, amused at the little note of ‘make sure Chuuya does not wash the pots today’ left on the side. He’d have done it happily, but if those were his orders then so be it.
Hearing the running water turn off in the bathroom, the ginger made his way in that direction. The petals on the floor weren’t exactly arranged neatly, but they did lead in a trail towards the bathroom door and it made him smile. Standing in the doorway, he leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Is this my second surprise?”
Kunikida looked over at him, giving a nod as he tucked a strand of hair behind his own ear. He’d been in the middle of undressing, finishing kicking his boxers off, before he carefully slid into the large bath tub, motioning for Chuuya to come and join him.
Chuuya obliged, removing Kunikida’s shirt and throwing it to the pile of other clothes that were to go in the wash. He padded over, slipping into the bath and pressing a kiss to Kunikida’s lips, before turning and sitting between the man’s legs, back pressed to the blonde’s chest.
Hands gently roamed the ginger’s skin, lathered up with soap and just washing him gently. It was such a nice feeling, intimate without being sexual. His favourite thing. But then they fell away, only to return a few moments later in his hair, massaging and gently untangling all the knots.
Kunikida chuckled softly at the quiet moan of satisfaction that left Chuuya’s lips. He worked his fingers through every strand of hair, untangling all of it, before carefully dipping him back to rinse the shampoo off. Applying the conditioner, he made quick work of that, before just sliding his arms around the other man’s waist, keeping him close.
Nuzzling into the ginger’s wet hair, he let out a quiet sigh, content to just sit there for a while in the warm water.
“Today, we’re just going to curl up on the sofa, order takeaway later, and watch whatever you want to watch on the TV.” He murmured to him, refusing to let Chuuya lift so much as a finger today.
Kunikida knew well he was bad for overworking, but Chuuya had been doing it a lot more than him lately, and he couldn’t stand seeing him so exhausted all the time and drained. It would end up making him ill and he worried for his boyfriend. But even then, the ginger was always looking after him, so it was time he returned the favour.
A pamper day was something they both needed desperately, and Kunikida much preferred being the one to do the pampering rather than receive it. So this was perfect.
“Alright. Just… five more minutes like this first?” Chuuya asked softly, fingers tangling with Kunikida’s to hold on.
“Alright. Five more minutes. Happy Valentine’s Day, Chuuya.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Kunikida.”
Kunikida could never begrudge his small requests, not when it was clear Chuuya was already relaxing. It didn’t take a lot, but it did take the right things to get him to relax.
Today was going to be about Chuuya, that much he would make sure. Tomorrow could wait. This was their day, and not even Dazai was going to be allowed to spoil it.
Yosano made damn sure of that.
