Forever Isn't Long Enough

Summary:

Megumi was once the life of the party, always backstage at shows, drinking with the bands and hooking up with drummers and guitarists left and right. He was one of those omegas. One of the ‘wild ones’ that needed to be tamed. He was spreading his legs for anyone who wanted to have a taste and he didn’t care. Why would he? He’d never planned on meeting an alpha and settling down. He’d just wanted to have fun while he was young and die alone by the time he hit thirty.
And then he met Sukuna.

Now he's playing wife. Folding laundry, cooking dinner, and raising two little boys with red eyes and sharp tongues.

Warning: Their sons call Megumi 'mommy' if you don't like that then don't read.

Chapter 1: Anything and Everything You Dream About

Chapter Text

Megumi sighs as he folds the last bit of laundry he has left, glancing over the couch and out of the large window to make sure the twins are still playing safely in the backyard. He smiles when he locks eyes with the elder of the two, Masaru. The five-year-old waves at his ‘mommy’ from his spot, causing the younger twin, Takao, to take notice and immediately follow suit. Megumi lets out a chuckle before waving for the boys to come inside.

Takao is at his mother’s side in seconds, eager to be next to the man, and it reminds Megumi of how Sukuna used to stick to him like glue in their college days.

Masaru takes his time coming back inside, being sure to whistle for the dogs to follow him through the doorway, before he, too, is staring up at Megumi with an all too familiar pair of red eyes.

“Okay, boys, take your clean clothes to your room and put them away. Then it’s time to hop in the bath. We’re meeting uncle Yuuji for dinner.”

Takao perks up at the name, small hands reaching out and gripping his pants tightly.

“Mommy! Is uncle Yuuji going to come home with us? Can we play castle?”

The boys had long taken to calling Megumi ‘mommy’ and the twenty-five-year-old didn’t have it in him to fight it. Sukuna had called him that as soon as they found out he was pregnant and somehow, throughout the years, it stuck. It would offend most omegas, Megumi thinks, but when Takao or Masaru look up at him with wide eyes and whine for their mommy, his heart does backflips and he melts like putty in their hands.

He wasn’t always like this, not at all.

Megumi was once the life of the party, always backstage at shows, drinking with the bands and hooking up with drummers and guitarists left and right. He was one of those omegas, the ones that all the movies like to say are the ‘wild ones’ that need to be tamed. He was spreading his legs for anyone who wanted to have a taste, and he didn’t care. Why would he? He’d never planned on meeting an alpha and settling down. He’d just wanted to have fun while he was young and die alone by the time he hit thirty.

And then he met Sukuna.

Sukuna, Yuuji’s ever elusive twin brother that Megumi wouldn’t have believed even existed if the younger-by-twenty-two-minutes alpha didn’t smell like a twin.

The metal singer slash guitarist had come into Megumi’s life and shaken him to his core. Long before Sukuna’s band gained any sort of recognition, they’d met at a small show in some seedy little metal club. Yuuji had convinced Megumi to come watch his brother’s band play with him and not even fifteen minutes after Sukuna had stepped offstage, he and Megumi were in the green room fucking over the bathroom sink. Yuuji was only mildly horrified when Megumi came back to him with a bright red hickey right over his scent gland. It was a shock that Sukuna hadn’t broken skin and actually marked him right then and there, but the younger alpha didn’t ask questions.

Who knew that bathroom hookup would lead to mating, marriage, and children?

Masaru crosses his arms and stares at his clothes on the couch.

“If we don’t put our clothes away, do we get to stay home and not see uncle Yuuji?”

Megumi lets out a hum before crouching down so that he’s eye to eye with his son. Usually Masaru loves seeing his uncle because Yuuji spoils his nephews in every sense of the word. Whether it’s crawling around on the floor with the twins and letting them climb all over him or buying them everything they ask for and more, he’s constantly doting on the boys hand and foot. Yuuji’s fiance, Yoshino Junpei, is a beta and has no womb to carry a child, so they treat the twins as though they were their own. If it were any other day, Masaru would brim with joy at the prospect of spending time with his favorite (read: only) uncle, but Megumi knows that when Sukuna is away, it’s hard for Masaru to be around the other alpha. Yuuji looks like Sukuna, he smells like Sukuna to an extent, but he’s not Sukuna and it’s just not the same. Seeing his uncle just makes Masaru miss his father even more.

(That and Masaru is never entirely thrilled about the idea of being around Junpei, either)

Sukuna has been away for two weeks now, not that Megumi is counting or anything, working on an album in Osaka with his band and if they didn’t have two children to raise, Megumi would be with him. He misses his mate more than anything, but someone has to take care of the kids and neither Sukuna nor Megumi trust anyone else to watch them for more than a few hours. Even though they could afford to hire a few caregivers if they so pleased, Megumi would much rather have the boys by his side.

After seven years Megumi is used to missing his lover, but the boys have a harder time without the alpha around.

“Do you think your uncle would enjoy hearing you say that?” Megumi asks. Masaru shrugs and makes a face, and it takes everything in the raven haired man not to roll his eyes. “You know he wouldn’t. So go put your clothes away and get ready for a bath because if we’re late to dinner I’m going to let uncle Yuuji eat your dessert.”

Masaru mutters he doesn’t give a shit about dessert before he lets out a huff and grabs his clothes roughly.

Before Megumi can reprimand the child, he stomps off to his and Takao’s shared bedroom. Usually Megumi would make the little boy turn around and apologize for his attitude, but he understands that he just misses his father, so he let it slide this time.

Megumi hates admitting it to anyone, but he misses Sukuna, too.

Masaru’s mood has brightened significantly since they’d arrived at the restaurant, a nice steakhouse owned by Yuuji and Sukuna’s family, because Yuuji had arrived alone and with presents.

Megumi thinks it’s silly that Masaru dislikes Junpei so much and he knows that it’s only because his father does. Sukuna thinks Junpei is emotionally weak and far too dependent on Yuuji, he also thinks Junpei is useless for being unable to give Yuuji a child, and it irritates Megumi to no end to hear his lover ramble on and on about how much he wishes the two would break up so Yuuji could find someone worth his time. He’s given the ‘Junpei is terrible’ speech so many times Masaru has started to believe everything his father says about the man. Megumi knows it hurts Junpei, too, because just like his father, Masaru doesn’t hide his disdain for anyone. Sukuna’s attitude alone is hard to deal with, but when his mini-me is giving you the same treatment, it feels like you just can’t win.

Because you won’t.

At least Takao is more like Yuuji than his dad. The younger twin loves Junpei, though Takao really loves anyone who gives him the slightest bit of attention, and often showers the man with enough affection for both of the twins.

Masaru sits in his mother’s lap and plays with the toy airplane Yuuji brought him while Takao clings to his uncle, talking his ear off about something funny he saw on TV, when suddenly Megumi smells it. Agarwood, amber, and vanilla. Megumi knows that scent better than his own and before he can even do anything, both of the twins are on their feet and sprinting. Megumi stands, too, chasing after the boys as they make their way out of the large doors at the front of the restaurant and straight into their father’s embrace.

Sukuna is there at the top of the steps, one twin in each of his arms, when Megumi makes it outside, laughing cheerfully as they scent him over and over. The omega wants to reprimand the boys for running off like that, but the sight in front of him is too precious to ruin.

“You dick! You didn’t tell me you were coming home today!” Megumi whines playfully, but suddenly he feels self-conscious.

Yuuji hadn’t told him Sukuna was coming, so he wasn’t prepared. He supposes he looks decent enough, considering the restaurant, but he needs a haircut and his outfit definitely wasn’t the first thing he’d reach for in his closet if he knew he’d be seeing his husband today.

“It’s called a surprise, dollface.” Sukuna laughs, closing the distance between them and pressing a kiss to Megumi’s temple. With the four of them huddled together, Megumi can finally relax. His mate is back home, his children are safe, and everything feels right even if he’d been surprised.

When did he turn into such a sap?

“Do you want to put them down? They must be heavy.” Megumi mumbles as he trails behind his lover, who still has both boys in his arms, and makes his way inside quickly.

Sukuna laughs out a loud no as he follows his brother’s scent to their table, ignoring the looks thrown his way from the uptight patrons of the restaurant. Sukuna doesn’t care what anyone thinks of the tattoos littering his body. He’s a celebrity. He’s used to being stared at.

Not only is he the vocalist and lead guitar for arguably the biggest metal band in Japan, but with the inheritance left behind by his and Yuuji’s parents, the man has more money in his bank account than everyone in the restaurant combined. The sweet combination of money, power, and fame gives Sukuna a high like nothing else and he loves to be challenged by those who have no clue who he is or what he’s capable of.

“Uncle Yuuji, my daddy’s here!” Takao screams, unable to control his volume amid all the excitement, and when a random man sitting at a table close to theirs makes a shushing sound at their son, Megumi sucks in a breath.

Takao doesn’t notice, but Masaru sure does. Suddenly the man has two pairs of red eyes glaring at him and Megumi’s face heats up in embarrassment.

“Don’t you fucking dare shush my son.” Sukuna spits out and the man gasps. Masaru smirks at the reaction and points to the man.

“He’s stupid, daddy.” The little boy says with the most evil sounding laugh a five-year-old can muster, which in turn earns a chuckle from his father.

“I know, baby. He’s lucky your daddy’s in a good mood today because if I weren’t, he’d have a bullet right between his eyes.” The vocalist tells him as he places the boys down in the booth next to Yuuji, tossing his phone over the table to his twin. “Put on some good shit for the boys.”

Yuuji rolls his eyes. He hates it when his brother bosses him around, but he unlocks the phone anyway and opens up the YouTube app.

“What do you want to watch?” Yuuji asks softly.

A smile graces his face once he’s looking down into his nephew’s eyes.

“I want to watch daddy’s videos!” Masaru squeaks.

Sukuna has quite a few music videos available to watch on the app, but none of them are appropriate for children, let alone the restaurant’s setting.

“What about baby shark?” Yuuji asks instead and Takao whines, joining his brother.

“No! Daddy’s videos!”

Once both of the twins have their minds set on something, there’s no arguing. So Yuuji sends Megumi an apologetic look before playing one of the less vulgar songs he can find and handing the phone to Masaru.

“Turn the volume all the way up, baby.” Sukuna says to his son as he settles into the booth.

He leans into the table and rests his chin on his hand, maintaining eye contact with the man at the table nearby. Silently, he dares the man to say something to him.

Megumi thinks he’s changed quite a bit since the twins were born. He doesn’t drink until eight in the morning anymore, doesn’t sleep around anymore, he hardly gets into fights with alphas who piss him off or omegas that annoy him. He’s grown up since his college days. He’d tried his best to reel himself in so that he can set a good example for his boys, but Sukuna? Sukuna is the same bastard he’s always been. An alpha who loves to fight, who doesn’t care who or what stands in his way, and gets what he wants regardless of what needs to be done. He’s loud, flashy, and more often than not just an asshole. At least, that’s the word Megumi would choose.

When they were younger, it used to make Megumi laugh when Sukuna would beat the living daylights out of someone just for looking at his omega the wrong way. Now it makes the man want to bury himself deep in a hole and never come out.

Regardless of how mortifying it can be, Sukuna is Sukuna and Megumi wouldn’t have him any other way. So he hopes and prays that the restaurant patron, who smells like an alpha, knows how to pick and choose his battles because if he goes toe to toe with Sukuna, he will lose and Megumi won’t step in to help.

The omega wants to enjoy his dinner with his family, so he does something he rarely does in public. He threads his arm through his lover’s and leans into him, rubbing his nose up and down Sukuna’s scent gland and letting out a sigh of contentment. Suddenly Sukuna’s attention is all on him, the alpha from moments ago forgotten as the older man adjusts their position so that he has an arm around Megumi, pulling him close.

“You smell like Yuuji.” Sukuna huffs out, lip curled in disgust as if he and his twin brother don’t have similar scents.

He scents his lover, rubbing his cheek against Megumi’s as he throws his brother a look.

Yuuji’s scent is similar to Sukuna’s own, agarwood and amber are prominent, but instead of vanilla, Yuuji smells of tuberose.

When they were children, Yuuji and Sukuna would scent each other often for comfort. They did it so much, in fact, that for most of their childhood they smelled the same. As they grew older, the two grew apart, but for Sukuna, Yuuji’s scent was still comforting. It made him feel at home. He would never admit it to anyone, not even to Megumi, but even well into their early twenties, Yuuji’s scent came second only to Megumi’s in terms of calming Sukuna’s nerves.

Then his brother had to go and get a beta for a mate. Sukuna feels his eye twitch in irritation at the thought. When most people start living with a partner, their scents start to combine slightly because they’re in such close quarters all the time, but Yoshino Junpei has no scent. Since the two got engaged and moved in together, Yuuji’s scent has become more muted, stale almost. As if someone put it in a plastic bag, sealed it tight, and left it there to go bad. Sukuna hates it. It’s just not the same as before and it irks him to no end.

Sukuna and Megumi’s twins smell of vanilla. Vanilla and ginger, a pleasant mixture of their parents. While Masaru has a bit of a tobacco leaf in him, Takao smells more of lavender. Sukuna wishes he could bottle up their scents and take it everywhere with him because he’d dare say that they smell even better than his mate.

Sukuna continues to scent his lover, wanting nothing more than to drown Megumi in vanilla so that he smells like nothing but Sukuna and the boys. Usually the two of them refrain from public displays of love. Megumi was never one for affection outside of the comfort of their home and Sukuna didn’t think it helped his rockstar image anyway, but being away from each other for weeks is hard on both of them.

Even if they’d both rather cut their tongues out than say it to each other.

For a moment, the two of them get lost in each other, scenting one another and letting out noises of satisfaction here and there. It isn’t until the waitress comes to finally take their order that Megumi and Sukuna snap out of it and put a bit of space between them. Yuuji just sighs, muttering to himself about the two of them needing a room, and the twins continue to watch their father’s music videos in awe.

When their food comes and the twins are told to put the phone away, their attention goes straight to the man sitting across from them.

“Daddy!” Takao squeaks around a mouthful of food. “Masa and I went to the aquarium with uncle Yuuji! And there was a big shark, bigger than this building! And I talked to it!”

Masaru rolls his eyes.

“You didn’t talk to the shark, stupid.”

“Did so! It told me it was hungry!” Takao whines, looking to Megumi for help.

“Just because mommy can understand animals doesn’t mean you can. You’re lying.” The elder twin huffs out with a roll of his eyes before shoving his brother out of the booth and onto the floor.

Takao stands and squares his shoulders, raising tiny fists up, ready for a fight. It’s more cute than intimidating, but still the five-year-old looks ready to stand his ground.

“Boys!” Megumi hisses, catching both of their attention. “We’re in public and if you can’t behave, I’ll take you both home and send you to bed.”

Takao looks guilty, but Masaru just looks annoyed.

“It’s not like Taka can fight, anyway.” He mumbles under his breath and Megumi shakes his head.

“I don’t like your attitude today, young man. I let it slide earlier, but I will not keep giving you passes.” The omega says sharply as he motions for his other son to climb into the booth on the side he and Sukuna are seated on.

His lover raises an eyebrow at that, and Megumi shakes his head. He doesn’t need Sukuna to be the one punishing Masaru when all of his behaviors were learned from his father, anyway.

Takao settles in between his parents as Megumi reaches over the table to bring his plate of food to their side. The younger twin looks a little too much like the cat who got the cream to be sitting in between his parents instead of with his brother and uncle. He leans into his father’s side and all but purrs when Sukuna runs a large hand through his hair.

“Have you two been giving your mother a difficult time while I’ve been away? Honestly?” It’s posed as a question, but it’s laced with a command. The little boys couldn’t lie to their father, even if they tried their hardest, due to the underlying order of honesty. Megumi hates it when Sukuna uses any sort of influence on their children, especially his alpha commands, even if it’s just the tiniest bit.

“I’ve been good for mommy!” Takao says earnestly, but he’s always good for Megumi.

He’s the sweetest little boy in the world. Occasionally Megumi has seen Takao get riled up, especially with Masaru, but mostly, he’s the easy one. He only ever really acts up when his brother is involved. Masaru, on the other hand, is exactly like his father in every sense. He’s loud, he’s rude, and he’s aggressive. Usually he is good for Megumi, having been taught as soon as he could understand that he and his brother are never to disrespect their mother.

Masaru is extremely possessive of his mother and brother, the same way Sukuna was when he was a pup, and always bends over backwards for the two of them, so for him to have acted out earlier in the day or to even have pushed Takao out of the booth was out of character for him. Megumi knows boys will be boys, though, and no one is perfectly well behaved all the time. He thinks it’s wrong to think a five-year-old who doesn’t even understand the world would be perfect.

Except Sukuna expects perfection from everyone in his pack. Especially his children.

“I cursed at mommy today.” Masaru says, staring down at his hands, and from the corner of his eye, Megumi sees Sukuna clench his jaw.

“Do you think that’s an acceptable thing to do?” The alpha asks, frowning when he doesn’t receive an answer. “I asked you a question, Masaru.”

“No, sir. I don’t.”

“Then why did you do it?” When the little boy shrugs in response, Sukuna’s patience runs thin. “I’m disappointed in you. I suppose when we get home, we’ll have to teach you how to properly speak to the person who gave you life.”

“Babe, really, it’s not a big deal-” Megumi starts, but he’s cut off by the look Sukuna throws him.

Megumi doesn’t like it, but he knows better than to argue with Sukuna when he’s angry.

“We did a bad thing while you were gone, daddy.” Takao says, wide red eyes look up at his father with a pout to match. “But not to mommy! Masa and I ran away from uncle Yuuji and uncle Junpei while we were shopping in Shibuya. Masa said it would be funny to scare them!”

Megumi looks at his son in confusion, brows furrowed, before turning his gaze to Yuuji. Why was this his first time hearing about it?

“You guys ran away from us? You said you got lost!”

“You lost my children and didn’t tell me?” Megumi shrieks.

“It’s not like we lost them, lost them. I found them easily by their scent!” Yuuji defends himself and Takao giggles with an excited nod.

“I wanted to freak Yoshino out.” Masaru says, wincing at his own honesty because his father’s command hadn’t worn off yet.

“Do you realize how dangerous that was?!” Megumi asks, unable to control the anxiety bubbling up in the pit of his stomach at the thought of something happening to his boys. “If Yuuji hadn’t been there, Junpei wouldn’t have been able to scent track you two, do you understand that? And what if some crazy person got to the two of you before your uncles? Huh? What then?”

Sukuna isn’t in some mainstream pop band that gets played on the top forty’s radio, but it’s not like he’s some unknown underground musician. His band is popular, arguably the most popular metal band in Japan. What if some deranged fan knew who Masaru and Takao are? The idea of some psycho fangirl taking his children makes Megumi want to throw up.

“It’s not my fault Yoshino can’t smell us. Why should I get in trouble for him having a useless nose?” Masaru says with a shrug of his shoulders and Megumi turns to his lover.

Sukuna sits silently as his gaze shifts between his son and his brother. Unsure of who he wants to deal with first. Megumi can smell his rage, just like he’s sure Sukuna can smell his anxiety, and at this point, he isn’t sure how the night turned so sour so quickly.

He’s about to say something to diffuse the situation when he notices the five-year-old next to him climb into the fuming man’s lap.

Takao rests his forehead against Sukuna’s and brings his tiny hands up to rub the back of his father’s head.

“Mommy does this whenever daddy gets mad at home and it always makes him better! Is it working?” The little boy asks and Megumi can’t help but to crack a smile.

He does do that whenever Sukuna gets worked up, usually emitting his scent and pheromones while doing so to calm his lover down. It’s a technique he’d read about when he was a kid, knowing that it only really works between mated pairs or their family members, he didn’t think he’d use the damned thing. He’d never imagined that he’d be doing it so often - and with an alpha who fathered his children, no less. Even though Megumi knows that the younger twin doesn’t know how to push out his scent or what a pheromone even is, it’s an adorable sight and he can see Sukuna visibly relaxing.

“Thank you, baby. It’s helping very much. Yuuji and I will have a conversation later on, just the two of us.” Sukuna says, sending an outraged look to his brother. Yuuji gulps and Megumi knows exactly what kind of ‘conversation’ Sukuna has in mind. “And Masaru, even if Yoshino is useless, you are not to run away from him or Yuuji in public. That’s an order.”

“Yes, sir.”

“We’ll have a talk about cursing at your mother when we get home, too. Don’t think you’ll be going unpunished for that.”

The five-year-old looks like he wants to cry, but he won’t. Especially not in public, where everyone can see him. Sukuna has always taught the boys that crying is for the weak and showing weakness is unacceptable.

“Masa didn’t mean to be bad, daddy! He missed you, he even cried about cursing at mommy when we were putting our clothes away.” Takao says, earning a glare from his brother.

“I didn’t cry! I don’t cry. Ever.”

“Did so! And mommy gave us some of your jackets to sleep with if we missed you, but Masa stole the one I got and slept with both of them. It’s okay, though. I didn’t need it.”

“Shut up, you don’t know anything. You’re stupid!” Masaru turns to Yuuji, who’s still sweating bullets from the unspoken threat he’d received from his twin. “Uncle, can I stay with you tonight? I don’t want to go home with Taka. He’s a brat!”

“As much as I’d love to have you stay with me tonight -”

“That’s not happening for a while. Let’s just make that very clear right now. I don’t trust you with my kids anymore.” Sukuna cuts his brother off and Yuuji has to stop himself from rolling his eyes.

“I’m driving straight to Kyoto after dinner. I just wanted to help Suku-chan surprise you guys.”

Megumi can’t help but to snicker at the nickname, ignoring the glare Sukuna delivers to both of them.

“Why are you driving to Kyoto so late? Why don’t you wait until tomorrow?”

“Junpei is waiting for me there. He had an appointment today and tomorrow morning we have an appointment that I have to be present for.”

“What kind of appointment? You didn’t tell me about this?” Megumi whines and Yuuji laughs.

The two of them usually tell each other everything, having been best friends for eight and a half years, so when Yuuji doesn’t tell Megumi something, it might upset the younger man a little more than it should.

“Yeah, I - uh - well, I didn’t really know when or how to bring it up. We’re going to try some new procedure. It’s all very experimental, but basically they’re going to implant an artificial womb into him.”

“So he can get pregnant?”

“That’s the goal.”

“Wow, Yuuji! That’s really - wow! Has it worked before?” Megumi is shaking with elation. The idea of Junpei being able to give Yuuji the child he’s always wanted makes him want to get up and hug his best friend.

“It’s all very new. The only reason we even know about these test runs is because Junpei’s cousin works for the company funding the experiments.”

“Well, is it safe?”

“Well, I mean, when are things like this ever completely safe? To a certain extent, it’s safe. I wouldn’t let him do it if there was any sign he could die from it. There is a high chance it won’t take and he could get very sick from it, but not fatally. He really wanted to do it and after reading about it, I completely support his decision. I told him we shouldn’t get our hopes up, though, and just take it all a day at a time.”

Megumi’s entire face lights up as he listens to the shorter pink-haired twin speak. He genuinely likes Junpei. He thinks the younger man is sweet, if a little strange, and he makes Yuuji happy, which is all that really matters in the end. Yuuji has been trying his best to get Sukuna and Masaru to warm up to his lover, but at a certain point, he tires of hearing them slag off him and doesn’t want to tell them anything about their relationship. It’s why he hadn’t mentioned the procedure to anyone until now. It feels good, though, to share the news that they’re going to try to start a family.

“Science really has come a long way, I guess.” Sukuna mumbles, offering his brother a tight-lipped smile. “Good luck, bro. This is all just soon, I guess. You know, getting engaged to him and now you want to have a baby?”

Megumi doesn’t understand his mate’s distaste for Junpei. He and Yuuji have been dating for three years (though Yuuji had privately gushed to Megumi that he wanted to marry the beta only a month after knowing him) which is a year longer than Megumi and Sukuna were together before Megumi got pregnant, so he doesn’t think Sukuna has a fair point.

“Uh, when did you knock my best friend up again?” Yuuji asks, reiterating Megumi’s own thoughts. “You guys fuc- made love after knowing each other for, like, a whole five seconds. Hell, you two didn’t even seriously date for a while after you met. Junpei and I were dating for months before we took it to the next level.”

“We’re not talking about Megumi and I. We’re talking about you and your friend.”

“My fiance.” Yuuji corrects him, shaking his head as he glances over at Megumi. “You know what? Just send me the bill and I’ll Venmo you guys. I’m leaving.”

Yuuji won’t take this from his brother when what he’s wanted for his entire life is at the tips of his fingers. He won’t allow his brother to rain on his parade.

Megumi watches his best friend leave, and he knows that his mate can feel the anger rolling off of him in waves.

“Why do you antagonize him? Why can’t you just be happy for him?”

Sukuna shrugs.

“At least now he doesn’t have to take the ass beating I was going to give him for losing my sons. Just let him go. He smells bad, anyway.”

When they get home Megumi gives his lover the cold shoulder, as hard as it may be, because while he missed Sukuna and wants nothing more than to take the man to their bedroom and show him just how much, he also knows that the man needs to be knocked down a few pegs. The only person who can do that is Megumi.

Sukuna doesn’t realize at first. He’s too busy counting Masaru’s push-ups, his punishment for cursing at his mother because Megumi absolutely will not allow his mate to spank their children. Then he’s putting the boys to bed, which takes much longer than usual because how can the twins possibly fall asleep when daddy’s home? By the time Sukuna finds him, Megumi is in the kitchen pouring himself his second glass of wine.

“You smell so good, dollface.” The alpha whispers as he comes up behind his lover.

Strong arms wrap themselves around Megumi’s middle and before he knows it, Sukuna’s lips are on his neck. It takes everything in the younger man not to give in to his mate’s touch. He knows Sukuna can smell how aroused he is. It never takes much from the older man to get him going, but Megumi gathers all of his willpower and shrugs the other off of him.

“You think you get to fuck me tonight after what happened at dinner?” The omega laughs, sipping his wine and rolling his eyes as he puts a bit of distance between the two of them. “That’s rich.”

“I haven’t seen you in two weeks. I’m absolutely fucking you tonight.” The pink-haired man growls as he steps forward. “I know you missed me, baby.”

Megumi did miss Sukuna. He missed him way more than he should have, he thinks, but he also knows that he’s the only person in the world who can make Sukuna apologize for his wrongdoings and the only way to do that is to resist.

“I guess you can eat me out if you missed me that much, but you’re not fucking me until you apologize to Yuuji. I suppose we can call it a compromise since you didn’t hit my son, even though I know you wanted to.”

Sukuna rolls his eyes.

“It’s not ‘hitting’, it’s spanking, and it’s normal to spank your child when they act up.” If Sukuna could, he’d spank his sons because that’s really how you teach a child to listen, but Megumi would actually skin him alive if he did.

“It’s abuse.”

“It’s not abuse. I was spanked as a child and I turned out fine.”

Megumi laughs out loud at that, almost spitting his wine out when he does, before raising an eyebrow at his husband and daring him to continue. He, more than anyone other than Yuuji, knows just how the parenting, or lack thereof, affected Sukuna.

“We’re not talking about that, okay? Because you promised me when we had the kids you wouldn’t spank them. What we’re talking about is your brother and you being a massive dick to him.”

“Because I don’t like his boyfriend?”

“His fiance.” The omega corrects him, earning another eye roll. “Look, I know you don’t like Junpei. I don’t know if it’s some weird classist shit you have going on up in that dumb alpha brain of yours or what, but you really need to grow the fuck up. You may think Junpei is too emotional or psychologically weak, but that really doesn’t affect you at all.”

“Of course it affects me, Megumi. How dare you even think that it doesn’t?”

The look on Sukuna’s face would be terrifying if Megumi hadn’t spent the last seven years of his life on the receiving end of it. It’s a face of frustration and misunderstanding.

Megumi learned very early on that Sukuna was terrible at keeping his irritability under control. If anyone were emotionally weak, Megumi would argue that it’s his lover because the man just doesn’t know what to do or how to express himself without it coming out in the form of pure aggression. Sometimes he wonders how he ever fell in love with someone like that, but he supposes his own daddy issues are probably what made him gravitate to the other man.

“Use your words, big boy. I know you can.” The omega says softly before gulping down the rest of his wine.

He takes a step forward and presses his forehead lightly to Sukuna’s. He brings his hands to the back of his lover’s neck and rubs it softly while sending his scent outwards. It makes him think of Takao trying to mimic him earlier at dinner and he can’t help the giggle that escapes his lips. Sukuna must be thinking the same thing because he laughs, too, hearty and from his belly. For a moment all the tension from before is gone and the couple simply stares at each other, smiling stupidly at the thought of their five-year-old.

“He drains Yuuji. I know you can tell, too, you’re his best friend.” Sukuna finally says. “I don’t know if it’s a twin thing or just a brother thing or what, but I can feel it. How emotionally exhausted Yuuji is sometimes.”

Sure, Megumi notices it. Junpei is insecure, he requires quite a bit of affirmation and attention, but as much as it may be a little tiring for Yuuji, Megumi knows he thinks it’s worth it. Yuuji listens to his mate’s problems and kisses those insecurities away because he loves Junpei. In fact, Megumi would liken it to how he lets Sukuna rage for quite some time before he steps in and calms him down. It wears him out sometimes, especially when Masaru has his father’s personality and he has to deal with twice the load. Regardless of how taxing it may be, Megumi wouldn’t want to be with anyone else in the world. He loves Sukuna so much that he even went against all of his beliefs and mated with the man. Married him. Had two beautiful children with him. And he wouldn’t change a thing about him or their relationship, well, except for his husband’s need to be right all the time, but that’s another conversation for a different day.

“You have to trust Yuuji, babe. He’s an adult. At twenty-seven, most people are settling down, getting married, and having kids. If he’s in love with Junpei and he wants to start the rest of his life with him, then you should be a little more supportive. You’re all he has.”

Of course Yuuji has Megumi and the twins, too, but Sukuna is the only person who watched Yuuji grow up from a little pup to the man he is today. The alpha twins aren’t particularly close to the rest of their family, though they aren’t on bad terms either, and Megumi knows Yuuji only considers his twin and nephews his actual family.

When their parents died, Yuuji cried. A lot. No matter how hard Megumi tried to comfort him, he just couldn’t. He didn’t understand what it was like to have both parents, who really loved you, suddenly be whisked away from you at the same time. Megumi hates his father, so much so he didn’t even want the man to meet his children, so he just couldn’t relate to the heartbreak his best friend was experiencing. Sukuna had been on tour when it happened, overseas and unable to get back for a full twenty-four hours, but when he finally got home, Yuuji calmed down enough to eat something and get a few hours of sleep. That comfort from his brother was the only thing that helped.

That was the second time Megumi had ever seen Sukuna cry, too. (The first time being when Megumi wanted to break up after a stupid fight they’d had, but Sukuna will deny that he’d shed a single tear until the day that he dies.)

Yuuji needs his brother and his support, and Megumi wishes Sukuna could see just how hurtful he’s being by not offering it up.

“How can I like that little shit when he just takes and takes and takes all my brother has to give? Yuuji is constantly having to make him feel better about something that’s wrong. Yoshino is never happy.”

“I want you to listen to what you just said and compare it to what people think of you and me.”

“That’s different. We’re in love with each other and I know I can be rough around the edges, but we’re happy.”

“Exactly. I don’t think you’re letting yourself see just how happy Junpei makes Yuuji. You’re just looking at the bad stuff and not considering all the good. Did you know that every Thursday night Junpei makes Yuuji anything he wants for dinner? No matter how much or how little it is? No matter how difficult it is or how long it takes to prepare? Then they take a bubble bath together with candles and all?”

“No?”

“Yeah, it’s a tradition they’ve had since they first started dating and Yuuji says because of that Thursday is his favorite day of the week. Did you know Junpei takes Yuuji lunch every day to work so they can at least spend an hour of time together regardless of how busy they may get for the rest of the day?”

“I don’t see the point.”

“He’s in grad school, babe. He doesn’t really have the time to be doing all of that. But he does it anyway because he loves your brother.”

“Well, what? Does he want a reward?”

“You’re an idiot.” Megumi sighs, shaking his head. He needs another glass of wine. “Yuuji is the reward. He puts aside time from his busy day just so he can be with Yuuji. Even with this procedure they’re getting done. I googled it while you were with the kids and it’s not some simple little quick surgery that’s one and done. Junpei’s body is probably going to reject the artificial womb, and it’s probably going to be extremely painful. Even if he is successful in getting pregnant, the pregnancy will be high risk as fuck.”

“Adoption is a thing. No one is making him do the procedure.” Sukuna says, earning a scoff from his mate.

“You don’t get it. Yes, adoption is a thing, and it’s probably the route they’re going to have to take in the end, but have you ever heard the way Yuuji talks about the boys? About how they look just like the two of you when you were kids? He gushes on and on and on about how whenever he looks into those little eyes, it makes his heart so happy. I mean, shit, he’s flat out told me he’s jealous that we had the boys because he’ll never get to know what it’s like to have a little mini Yuuji running around. Babe, you can’t tell me you don’t feel, even just a little, enchanted to look at Masaru and know he’s exactly like you in every way.”

Sukuna can’t deny that. He’s filled with so much pride whenever he’s around his boys, knowing that they’re equal parts of Megumi and himself. Two perfect little beings that he and his mate created.

“Okay, you have a point.”

“Junpei is going to put his body through hell just so he can give your brother what he wants the most. I’m sure it would be a hell of a lot easier to adopt, but he’s going to take the harder road for your brother and I know I sure as fuck wouldn’t hurt myself like that for someone I wasn’t completely in love with.”

Sukuna exhales before leaning down to rub his nose at Megumi’s scent gland.

“You’re right.” He whispers, earning a nod in response. “I’ll call Yuuji and apologize tomorrow morning.”

“Good. Now let’s go to bed. I’m tired from having to carry around the emotional baggage this family has all day.”

“We’re going to the bedroom, but we’re not going to bed.” The alpha smirks, reaching out to give his lover’s ass a quick squeeze. “I missed you so much, babe. And while we were recording, one of the guys fucked this hot little omega in the damn booth! It reminded me of back when you used to let me fuck you wherever, whenever, no matter who was around. I had to go to the bathroom and jack off to a picture of you. Isn’t that pathetic? I haven’t got my dick wet in two entire weeks and here I am jacking off to pictures of my mate instead of getting to fuck you.”

“I said you can eat me out, but we’re not fucking until you apologize to your brother.” Megumi says finally, holding his index finger to his lover’s face. “I meant that.”

“C’mon, dollface, don’t be like that.” Sukuna pouts, or at least tries to.

It earns a snort in response before Megumi is full on laughing in his face.

“Don’t do that. You look ugly like that. Now, let’s go. I haven’t got my dick wet in two entire weeks.” The omega says, giving his best Sukuna impression.

He lets out a squeak when the alpha picks him up and throws him over his shoulder before taking them to the bedroom and locking the door behind them.

If Megumi goes back on his word and lets Sukuna fuck him until sun up, that’s no one’s business but his own.
