justin could hear screams and spells being cast from around him as he ran frantically with a limp linkai in his arms. he held both their wands tightly with one hand and could feel the sweat and blood dripping down the side of his head but he didn't care.
justin panicked when he realized the hospital wing was destroyed and all that was left was nothing but rubble. he clutched linkai closer, frustrated tears threatening to spill from his eyes, and ran to a nearby secluded hallway.
he put linkai down and immediately went to search for a pulse. he almost cried in relief when he felt it right there against his fingertips, soft and weak but it was there. linkai weakly opened his eyes and saw justin's focused face as he recited every healing spell they had learned over their years at hogwarts. he smiled softly and bitterly as well, knowing no matter how hard justin tried, linkai's fate was inevitable.
"justin."
"justin!"
the said boy snapped his head up and the tears finally spilled from his eyes as he clutched linkai's hand tightly.
"you're so stupid, you know that?" justin mustered, holding the other boy's hand against his lips. he was still focused on his healing spells but there was no sign of linkai getting better.
"you've been telling me that for the last seven years, justin," linkai managed weakly, a small smile on his lips. his consciousness was slowly slipping away but he fought to keep his eyes open, staring at justin's dirty face.
"i hate you. i hate you so much. you can't leave me. you promised. please, i swear." justin cried into linkai's hand, his head lightly hitting his hand repeatedly.
linkai let out a breathless chuckle and stared back into justin's tear filled eyes, "i love you too. i love you so much. i'm sorry."
with all the energy he had left, he grabbed justin's face with both hands and pulled their lips together. linkai closed his eyes shut, his own tears falling as memories flashed into his head.
"hey can i have one of your chocolate frogs? i'm wang linkai by the way,"
"huang minghao. you can call me justin though, way easier."
"hey justin, do you wanna try out for quidditch together? it's next week and i've been dying to try my new broom,"
"as if i'd let you do anything without me, plus if you fall, i can be there to catch you,"
"oh shut up,"
"how'd you even manage to offend a hippogriff? were you not listening in class again?"
"i was distracted, okay? besides they're scary, justin, you should've seen them,"
"so, uh, wanna go to the ball with me, justin?"
"thought you'd never ask,"
"i like you, you know that right?"
"you're very obvious sometimes. i like you too."
"you're so stupid sometimes, you know? next time you get by a bludger, i'm not saving your arse,"
"oh but you will, because you love me,"
"that i do,"
linkai pulled away and stared into justin's eyes once again, glad that they'd be the last thing he'll see. the familiar warmth held in dark brown orbs, except they were filled with tears.
"at least i'll finally be taller than you," linkai whispered.
justin let out a noise that sounded like a mixture of a sob and a laugh, "shut up."
as the darkness finally caught up to linkai, he whispered a final 'i love you', his hands slipping from justin's face.
justin let out a loud sob as he collapsed from both grief and tiredness, the two wands tumbling from his hand and onto the ground.
"i love you too. i love you too, so much."
