Chapter Text
I hated Thursdays.
It was a personal offense towards me. Thursday taunted me saying, "The weekend is so close yet so far away." Any other day of the week was sluggish but Thursdays were the bane of my existence. Everything seemed to go wrong on this damned day.
"Bailey!"
"What?" I yelled back. "Why are you so grumpy?" "You would be too if your favorite shoes were soaked plus you were late to your first lecture." "Ah, sucks to be you," my twin snickered.
Jordan was my little brother by six minutes but he acted like he was six months older. We were always the stereotypical twins; matching outfits, twin telepathy, the whole package. Where one went the other was a step behind. We had the same curly black hair and dark brown eyes. Even though I was older, he was 6'1 to my 5'6. How was he supposed to take me seriously when I was seven inches shorter?
"Anyway, I thought you would want to know that it's our birthday next week." He said excitedly. He was bouncing all around the place like a fool. "Excited to find the love of your life," I teased.
"Shut up. I know you can't wait either."
It was true. I had wanted to meet my soulmate for as long as I could remember. All the popular books and movies were feeding the soulmate life to everyone under thirty. Not only were soulmates a huge deal, they dictated how you lived and where you lived. If your soulmate was living across the world, one would have to move to the others location. Such was life.
"I hope you're mates with Melody. That would be amazing." Melody Park was my best friend since first grade. We had been together through the awkward phases of middle and high school. It was safe to say we were platonic soulmates. She was also Jordan's crush and I shipped them together like my life depended on it.
"Don't get my hopes up. I doubt she would like being bonded to me," he mumbled. "What do you mean? You're my twin and that means you're awesome. You guys would be lucky to have each other." I scolded. "Don't put yourself down like that. I know she wouldn't be at all upset if you were hers." " Thanks for the confidence, Bay." "No problem."
We continued walking towards the parking lot. I had only one class today and I needed to get home to sleep before starting work at 2. We arrived at my car and said our goodbyes. "I'll be home later okay?" "I'm gonna head to soccer practice now." "Bye JJ."
I am majoring in graphic design at the local university with a minor in Korean. My parents and brother were surprised that I had chosen Korean as my minor but I reassured them that this was the language I was going to study. The culture was something I had been interested in for a long time. Plus the food was to die for. Melody was Korean and I had wanted to learn more than the basics that she had taught me growing up.
I soon arrived at my house and parked. My parents were currently at work. They both owned a restaurant that was very successful. BB's was a favorite among anyone who wanted a quick breakfast, coffee, or dinner. Whatever you needed would be catered to you by my parents. It was their pride and joy for the last twenty years. My father had taught me how to bake when I was seven and I hadn't looked back since. My mother explored different recipes with me, coming up with wild ideas to feed our family. I was grateful to have such cool parents.
I stepped out from the car and walked to the door. I lived in a yellow two-story with a small front yard. We had lived here since I was born and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I walked to my room and stripped off my clothing. I changed into a t-shirt and sweatpants before flopping on to my bed. I sighed as I flipped over to my side. The semester was going to end before my birthday and I couldn't wait to relax and meet my soulmate... whoever they were.
