Work Text:
Goro day!
Ren decided to text Goro.
Ren: Hey Goro guess what?
Goro: What?
Ren: It’s Goro day tomorrow!
Goro: Ren my birthday is next month!
Ren: Not your birthday, Goro day!
Goro: ??
Ren: This month is the fifth month of the year making it “Go” as we say in Japanese.
And today is the sixth of May, and we say “Roku” in Japanese. Cut the “ku” part and add “go” with “ro” and we get “Goro”!
Goro: I see…
Ren: We need to meet up tomorrow so we can celebrate! Are you free?
Goro: Well um alright then sure, we can meet tomorrow morning as I am in fact free.
Ren: Hooray!
Ren: I shall have our day all planned out just for you!
Goro: Um, thanks Ren.
Ren: See ya tomorrow then!
Goro: See ya!
Ren had planned three different outings for Goro day tomorrow.
First, he shall take Goro to have lunch at a fancy new restaurant, next he shall take the boy to his favorite, the Tokyo national aquarium! And in the evening they can take a walk in the park and buy some ice cream from a vendor at the park.
The next day they met up as intended. Ren took Goro out to eat at a restaurant named “ La flor”.
It was a nice fancy restaurant, with a breathtaking view of Tokyo.
The had a reservation for a table for two and they arrived exactly on time.
They sat next to a window that had a view of Tokyo.
Ren knew the restaurant had quite a high price but this was Goro’s day after all and he wanted to spoil the living heck out of Akechi!
“Such a nice view.” Commented Akechi.
“You can order anything you want!” Said Ren smiling at Goro.
No matter how many times he looks at him it would seem Goro just gets more and more beautiful every day.
“Ah, alright but I’m paying for half the bill alright.” Said Goro.
“No!” Yelled Ren a bit louder than he intended and it startled Akechi.
“This is your day Goro I shall pay, it’s not a problem.” Said Ren.
Goro wanted to argue but he did not want to make even more of a scene than they already did so he decided to shut up.
Goro had ordered a simple spaghetti with meatballs while Ren ordered a salmon fillet.
They decided to talk about their jobs and other things going on in their lives.
They talked and waited until their dinner arrived.
Ren’s arrived first and he decided not to eat until Goro’s food arrived and then they eat together.
They kept talking and about five minutes later they see a waitress coming over with Goro’s plate.
“OMG is that Goro Akechi!? The detective prince himself!” She said to her co-worker.
“Uh, I think you might be right.” She replied.
The waitress walked over here nervously.
She seemed very excited to meet Goro.
“Uh, um, here is your food s-si-” She did not even get to finish her sentence because as soon as she arrived next to Goro she managed to drop the dish all over his lap.
“OH MY GOD I’m SO SORRY” apologized the waitress.
“AH, i-it’s alright” replied Goro trying to put on a fake smile.
Goro got up and ran to the bathroom.
Ren went after him.
He found Goro trying to clean himself us using wet paper towels.
“Here let me help you” Said Ren taking some paper towels into his own hand and rubbing it on Goro’s sweater.
The two of them said nothing, and after Goro was … fairly clean they got back to their seats.
The waitress came over to apologies again and Goro was given another dish along with a complementary dessert.
After eating their food Ren decided to take Goro back to Leblanc to get another change of clothes.
Luckily Goro had left some of his own clothes over at Ren’s place for whenever they had sleepovers together and he wore those to the aquarium.
“Oh, I remember this place!” Began Goro.
“I took you here myself once, when I got some tickets from a co-worker.” He continued.
“Yup, that’s right! They added some new exhibits now though. Like a few jellyfish tanks.” Said Ren.
“Ah, that’s nice. Let’s take a look around then, shall we?”
The two boys walked and talked around the aquarium.
Ren gained a lot of new knowledge from Goro who kept giving him random facts about each exhibit. Goro was like his own personal tour guide, except much more attractive the a regular tour guide.
They finally arrived near the last three exhibits.
They were standing in front of one that was currently under maintenance as they were setting decorations within it.
The workers were lowering a giant rock into the exhibit slowly.
The tank was already filled with water so as to not have the rock fall and smash onto the ground and crack the tank.
Suddenly one of the ropes tied around the rock, snapped! And the rock plopped into the water making a big splash.
And to both Goro and Ren’s dismay Goro ended up getting soaked from head to toe.
Goro had no words he did not even speak.
Ren couldn’t read the expression Goro had on his face, which normally only means something bad.
“Oh, sorry sir! We had a bit of an accident.” Said the worker.
Luckily the people working at the aquarium were very sorry for what happened, and they decided to give Goro some free clothes from the gift shop so he can at least stay dry.
However, after their aquarium visit was over, they took yet another detour to Leblanc so Goro can take a bath and stop smelling like fish water.
Sojiro was beginning to question what was going on with them, but he decided to say nothing because the two boys seemed very upset and not at all in the mood for talking.
This time Ren didn’t have any of Goro’s spare clothes left so Ren lent him some of his own. They have similar sizes, so it was not problem at all.
After their bath together, which was quite enjoyable Goro calmed down a bit and they later went for a peaceful evening walk at Inokashira park.
Everything seemed to be turning for the better now that Goro isn’t getting splashed with something.
Ren came to a halt when he saw an Ice cream vender. He walked over to buy some ice cream for himself and Goro.
Goro loves ice cream, or anything sweet in general however, since this day was not really going well around food, he sort of wished Ren doesn’t buy him any ice cream. But Goro said nothing as he didn’t wish to upset Ren who was only trying his best to make Goro happy.
Ren bought one vanilla ice cream for himself and two scoops of chocolate ice cream for Goro.
The two were enjoying their ice cream, when suddenly two young boys who were playing tag came running in their direction.
It was if by instinct that Ren knew something bad was gonna happen again. One of the boys looked like he was gonna end up bumping into Goro so Ren lightly yanked Goro by his arm.
But this only made things worse!
The boy missed Goro and kept running away from his friend, but Goro….
Goro had his ice cream spilled over his third shirt that day!
“Crap!” Yelled Ren.
“Goro, I’m so sorry! Here let’s go to the public restroom and..” Ren was cut off by Goro.
“No, it’s fine Ren.” Said Goro disposing of his ice cream cone in the nearest bin, he then took out a tissue from his pocket (Because he came a bit prepared this time) and gently wiped his own shirt.
Ren felt so bad, he felt like he ruined Goro’s day.
The two of them sat on a bench in the park, poor Goro had chocolate stains all over his shirt.
“Goro again, I’m SO sorry! I really thought that kid was gonna bump into and make you drop your ice cream, so I pulled you aside, but I only made things worse! It was horrible all day! I’m sorry I couldn’t make you happy. “ Ren put his head in his hands in shame.
“It’s alright Ren! What happened today, was not your fault, you were only trying your best, and I appreciate it really!” Said Goro patting Ren’s back.
“I don’t know how I can make it up to you. I don’t want more bad things to happen to you!” Said Ren nervously.
“You don’t have to do anything because you already did enough! Ren, I don’t care how many fancy restaurants you take me to, or aquariums or how many deserts you feed me. I had fun today because I got to spend a whole day with you! That’s all I care about.”
Ren said nothing.
So really… naming this Goro day is kind of stupid since it felt more like Goro AND Ren today.” He joked.
Goro gently placed his hand on Ren’s knee trying to comfort him.
“So, you really had fun?” Asked Ren still not looking at Goro’s eyes.
“I did. Just not the times I got stuff all over myself, but other than that I really did. Look on the bright side Ren! That restaurant gave me a free desert and the aquarium gave us free souvenirs! I will keep the swimming trunks and you can keep the T-shirt!”
Ren let out a small laugh and stood up straight.
“I guess you are right, Goro. Spending time with you is fun enough, even if my own shirt that I lent you is now stained with chocolate ice cream.” Laughed Ren.
“Of course, I’m right. I always am.”
