Chapter Text

Gigan was very aware of the fact that he leads a complicated life. That’s not the most stunning realization for a mercenary to have, but an important one nonetheless. Being aware of the complications and lack of normalcy means that a person can compensate. And Gigan compensated by being as professional as possible. He could be relaxed, he could be funny, but when it came to the job, the vizor came down.

And as a professional, Gigan had a personal code, a set of principles if you will. He may be a mercenary, but he was a mercenary with standards. His principles were simple:

1: You can enjoy the work, but don’t make it personal.

(Though, with his mental disposition, this was hard to do. Especially when Godzilla and Mothra got involved.)

2: Do the job well, do the job right, do the job fast.

3: Research your client. Find out who they were.

4: Don’t like the sound of a job? Don’t take it. (There are things even a murderous mercenary won’t do)

All of these principles keep Gigan grounded.

Many of his colleagues in the field laugh at the idea of having principles and standards. “They just get in the way of profit,” they say. And to an extent, they were right. But having those principles made Gigan feel good about himself. Like there was still some humanity left in the shell he called a “body”.

Unfortunately for him, sometimes exceptions had to be made for the sake of payday. When money was tight, he had to bend his rules to pay his bills. And that meant he often had to do things he didn’t like or regretted later on. Things that made his emotions come out in ugly ways. And it was for that reason he added a fifth item to his list of principles:

5: If you regret something you did, do something about it.
