Chapter Text
Cristina stretches her arms, cracks her neck and sighed heavily. It has been a long day but a very productive one. She has just finished documenting the results of her study, Shane has contacted the patients for their trial next week and now, she looks forward to a warm bath and a well-deserved rest. She was just about to leave her office when her phone rang, she answered then heard a very familiar voice.
Hello.
Cristina cannot come to terms of what she just heard. Is it really him? Is this who she thinks it is?
Uhm. Hello.
Cristina says again.
Hi, Cristina.
It's him. It really is, Cristina thought.
Burke...
Sorry, if I caught you off guard. I was just informed that my mother was chosen as a patient for your research trial.
Oh. Did Shane call you? I am not privy to the patients, I just look at the conditions and the cases as to remove any bias.
Sure, I understand. A Dr. Ross called and asked me and my mom to come to Zurich for the trial. I just hoped you should know. I don't want to surprise you and if you don't want me to...
Burke trailed not sure how to proceed.
Oh no. Burke, don't... it's okay. Your mother was chosen because of her condition, not for anything else. She should come.
Thank you, Cristina. And uh... I guess, we'll see you.
Of course. Thank you, Dr. Burke.
Mrs. Jane Burke and her son, Preston arrived at the research facility and was welcomed by Dr. Wyatt, one of Preston's colleagues a while back when he was still chief.
It's nice to see you again, Dr. burke!
Dr. Wyatt greeted them with such enthusiasm
Same here, Dr. Wyatt. It's good to be back
Shakes his hand
Hi, Mrs. Burke, welcome to Klaus. How are you feeling?
I'm feeling okay. Thank you for asking.
Dr. Wyatt directs his attention to the hospital staff.
Kindly help Dr. Burke and Mrs. Burke settle in on the private room on the east wing.
They were brought to the room and Jane settled in the bed while Preston sits in a chair next to it. Dr. Ross approached them, along with an intern - Dr. Keller
Good morning, Mrs. Burke. We're glad you're here. We'll just be getting your vitals to check your condition and hopefully, you'll get settled in.
Ok. This... research is led by Dr. Yang, right?
Jane asked. Burke looks at his mom, nervous
Yes, Ma'am. You'll meet her tomorrow. She's having multiple surgeries scheduled today and is finishing a lecture across town
Ross answers, oblivious to such history.
Oh, is that the one in Thomas hospital?
Dr. Wyatt asks.
Yes, Sir
Ross answers.
She's giving lectures on other hospitals? Is it a teaching hospital?
Burke asks, curious to know how Cristina is.
No, she's just preparing for the next phase of her research. She needs more patients and a lot more experience, so she works there twice a week. She knows a couple of doctors there from Seattle Grace. You might know some of them too, Burke.
That caught the attention of Shane.
You worked in Seattle grace, too?
Ross asked Burke.
I did.
Burke smiles It was such a long time ago, though
You worked with Dr. Yang?
Yes. yes, we did.
Oh, that's great. It will be a reunion then.
Ross smiles. I have to go. It was nice meeting you, Mrs. burke and Dr. burke. I'll be checking back on you later. Dr. Keller, could you get an EKG and run blood tests on Mrs. burke? And once you have the results, page Dr. Yang. She should be here in an hour or two.
Sure, Dr. Ross
Dr. Kellerman responded
Hmm. Just co-workers, huh?
Jane whispered to her son.
Mama... please.
Jane smiled at her son. Since her husband died, her whole life was just about looking after Preston. He has been through a lot and there's nothing she wishes more than for her son to get the happiness he deserves.
