Chapter 1: Love Talk

Chapter Text

Yuki let out a loud groan, "Uh, this is so boring." Muku said, "I know, but we need to finish this homework as soon as possible. If we keep putting it off, it'll just be even more irritating later." The two Saint Flora High school boys were in Yuki's dorm room working on some homework assignments. Yuki stared at the other first year, "You're such a good person... You make me sick." He then flopped onto the floor. Muku frowned, "Yuki, we really should get to working on this homework assignment." Yuki sighed, "Let's take a break and think about something else." Muku was surprised, "R-r-really?!? What do you wanna talk about?" Yuki thought for a minute before smirking, "What about the director's love life?" Muku let out a screech of surprise, "W-w-w-w-w-what? Love? Yuki, you never wanna talk about love!!" Yuki said, "I hate homework that much Wonder Boy." Muku frowned, "Um, but is it really okay for us to talk about the Director's love life behind her back?" Yuki said, "What she doesn't know can't hurt her." Muku thought for a moment, "Okay. Let's talk about her love life. Um, what should we start off with?" Yuki said, "How about who you think she's going to end up marrying one day?"

Muku yelled, "M-m-ma-mar-marry?!?!" Yuki covered his ears, "Yeah, geez. You're like a banshee. Maybe Villager C can make you one in the next play." Muku frowned, "Oh, I'm sorry." Yuki said, "So, who do you think she'll go out with? You've must have had some thoughts about it. I mean, over half of the company is madly in love with her. Though, not as much as the Psycho Stalker, thankfully." Muku still seemed unsure of himself. Yuki scoffed, "C'mon. You're the biggest romantic in this troupe. You must've thought about who the Director would marry one day. Admit it. Tell me." Muku thought for a minute before replying, "Well, I always thought that maybe...it might happen... that the Director would...end up with Juchan." The room went silent for a minute. Yuki then screamed, "What?! You thought she'd ever go out with the Standard Gangster. Why?" Muku whimpered, "B...b...b...but, you asked me who I thought the Director would marry. The two of them get along and it'd be nice to have the Director as a cousin. I'd bet family dinners would be real nice." Yuki glared at the pink haired boy and sarcastically said, "Geez, with that evidence, who wouldn't think that way." Muku frowned, "Well, who do you think will marry the Director?" Yuki said, "The hack."

Muku screamed, "What?!" Yuki covered his ears, "Ouch. What's with the loud screaming today?" Muku composed himself, "I'm sorry Yuki, but what makes you think that Tenma has a better chance than Juchan?" Yuki began explaining, "The Director and Tenma are actually very close. I've been observing them for some time. Exhibit A, Tenma was very close to the Director that night after our dress rehearsal, when the hack failed. Remember when we all walked in on them? You even said that you were a side character to their romantic comedy." Muku frowned, "Well, I guess." Yuki continued, "Exhibit B, Tenma practiced some lines of his with the Director. It was for a love scene for some show and when he confessed to the character, the Director replied that she was in love with him too. After that, Tenma was taken aback from the confession and asked why she was good at things like that. The Director's a shitty actor, so he wasn't surprised by her acting. He was surprised that she told him she loved him, even if it was an act." Muku whimpered, "Well, I-I-I guess that makes sense." Yuki smirked, "Exhibit C, the two of them have gone out on their own before, without telling anyone else where they were going." Muku seem defeated, "I guess you have a point."

Yuki seemed please with his apparent victory, but Muku spoke up, "But there's evidence to support my claim too!" Yuki turned to him, "What do you mean?" Muku said, "Well, the Director really helped Juchan when he was learning how to act. And she paid extra attention to him. She even thought his acting with on par with Banri's." Yuki frowned, "The Director helps everyone with their acting. Most of us had no acting experience, so we all needed help. As for saying he was a better actor than the Neo gangster, that was just her being nice." Muku continued, "And, they've been on dates too! Juchan went with her to a bunch of sweet festivals. He even shared and gave her some sweets. I know how much Juchan loves his sweets, so he'd only give them to someone he cares about and I'm pretty sure that the Director is picking up on that." Yuki said, "Yeah, but he'd never act on it. Juza's too unfamiliar with women. He would have a hard time actually spending time with her on a date." Muku shot back, "Well, Tenma tries to brush off the feelings that he has for the Director. He's just as unwilling to confess as Juchan." The two glared at each other. After a few seconds of silence, Yuki grabbed his papers and walked to the door, "Guess we'll just have to wait and see." He slammed the door as he left, but came back a few seconds later, "This is my room." Muku jumped and grabbed his things before leaving.

The two boys avoided eye contact as they ate their breakfast. This did not go unnoticed by the other troupe members. Tsuzuru asked, "Are the two of you okay? You've been acting strange." Yuki snapped back, "Stay out of this Villager C. This is personal." Kumon turned to his cousin, "Muku, what's going on?" Muku caved in easily, "Me and Yuki were having a discussion last night and got into an argument about who's right." Tenma said, "The just find out what the answer is and stop being mad at each other." Yuki glared at him, "The problem is that it's something that hasn't happened yet, so we don't know what the answer will be." Kazunari laughed, "Man, that sounds like a pain. Anyways, what were you two arguing about?" Yuki yelled, "None of your damn business!!" He grabbed his plate and put in the sink before storming off.

Later, the two boys were sitting together at the lunch table. Neither of them spoke to each other the entire day, still angry about the argument over who the Director would marry. Yuki let out a depressed sigh, "This is ridiculous." Muku said, "Yeah, I think so too." Yuki said, "We just need to speed up the process of finding out who's right." Muku was confused, "How are we supposed to do that?" Yuki smirked, "We just need to get the Director to chose one of them to go out with. She'll probably end up marrying them since she can't risk causing trouble in the company." Muku whimpered, "Um, that seems kind of underhanded." Yuki said, "It's either this or not talk to each other until she makes a decision. And who knows how many years until that happens. So, how about it?" Muku thought for a minute before agreeing, "Alright. let's do it. I'll show you that Juchan is the better one for the Director." Yuki smirked, "Do you ever get tired of being wrong?"
