Chapter Text
Luz Noceda was not by any means normal, and being Latina and bi definitely didn’t help her case. So when Luz came to the Boiling Isles she was shocked by how weird was the normal there. So when Luz got quiet everyone noticed.
Especially Amity.
When Luz walked through the classroom doors and sat next to Amity without making a sound, worry bubbled in Amity’s chest. Luz looked over and gave Amity a tired smile, Amity immediately noticed her puffy eyes and the eye bags. She’s been crying. once the reality dawns on Amity protectiveness and anger replace the worry in her chest. Her hands clench around the pencil and her ears flatten. Luz notices the movement and looks over only to see Amity’s ears lowered and a scowl on her face. Luz laughs and Amity looks over, her ears perking up curiously. Luz coos and reaches over, not thinking.
Once Liz’s hands come in contact with Amity’s face a blush spreads like wildfire on her face. And maybe it’s a trick of her mind, but Amity thinks she sees a blush on Luz’s face too.
Luz examines her ears, and when they twitch Luz lights up a little more every time. Amity thinks, Maybe my dignity’s worth it. For Luz. Then Boscha clears her throat, snapping Amity out of her trance.
“The Amity Blight really has gone soft. It would be better if round-ears over there never came here. Then all would still be right in the hierarchy.” Luz deflates at Boscha’s words, and Amity feels her ears flattening again. Luz removes her hands from Amity’s face but before she can turn back, Amity reaches over and interlocks their fingers. A sudden surge of bravery gracing Amity. Even though her heart is doing backflips she smiles and finds she doesn’t mind the feeling. Luz looks over, scanning Amity’s face. Amity only smiles softly in return. Luz turns back to her paper and unbeknownst to Amity, tries to shove down the unfamiliar fluttering in her gut.

When the bell screams Willow grabs her bag and walks to the front of the school with Gus. Luz is leaning against the impressive pillars above the stairs. Gus excitedly runs over, shocking Luz which causes her to almost fall off the pillar, her arms flailing all around her. Willow runs over and steadies her. Luz laughs, although it sounds forced. Willow quickly notices Luz’s downcast look. Little pricks of worry nick at the back of her mind. She decides to ask Luz about it later. The familiar click clack of heels hitting marble flirting rings in Willow’s ears. Before meeting Luz the sound would sour her day, but now it’s... getting better. She turns around and sees Amity walking over, muttering something to herself. Willow’s ears twitch, picking up what Amity’s saying.
“Alright, it’s just Luz, you got this Blight.” She mumbles. Willow had to stifle a grin as Amity’s face blooms an impressive scarlet once Luz greets her with a cheery “Hey Amity!”
Amity’s spine straightens and she gives a shy smile before glancing at Willow. Willow nods, a silent understanding passing between them while Luz excited explains human “teknologe” to Gus. A giant gust of wind suddenly blows, along with a chill greeting everyone. Luz grumbles as she turns around, reaching her hand out. With a snap The Owl Lady’s staff flies into her hands, emerging from the woods out of nowhere. Everyone looks at Luz with a puzzled look on their faces, she’s just grinning.
“Eda said I could fly Owlbert back to the Owl Shack,” ( She winks at Amity when she says this, causing Amity to flush and fiddle with her fingers while laughing nervously .) “But that she would send a big gust of wind to let me know.” She explains before saying goodbye to everyone and taking off on Owlbert.
“So, how’s the crush going?” Willow asks, Amity groans when she asks this, rubbing her face.
“Am I that obvious?” She asks.
“Yep.” Willow says.
“What’s going on?” Gus asks at the same time.
“Uhhh, girl stuff.” Amity tries to brush it off, (A nd does terrible at it. ) Gus winces, the voice of his dad rings through the area at the same time as Willows Papa calls out for her. Willow and Gus wave off Amity before getting on their parents staffs, heading home for the day.
