Chapter 1: The Meeting

Chapter Text

You always hated doing late night trips, walking around at night anywhere on Navarro was nerve racking. Despite your friendly terms with most of the bounty hunters in the guild however that wasn’t the case with the usual criminals. As one of the few medics in town, you often get injured bounty hunters turned up at your door demanding help; honestly you didn’t mind most of the time, they would be fresh off a hunt so the pay wasn’t horrible. That night was strange, you had been called out to a home which wasn’t unusual however on your way home you heard a crash in the alley next to your home. Pausing, your hand fell and rested on the weapon attached to your hip while you began your descent into the alley.

There were supply crates filling up the alley so you couldn’t see the origin of the crash until you rounded the corner. In a semi crouched position was a large figure. Tall and built like a mountain, the blue metal glinted off the light that was above the back door to your home. Quiet groans came through a modulated helmet. This hulking mandalorian was holding on to a wound on his side, someone must have landed a lucky hit between the plates of armour. You paused for a couple of seconds, trying to gather your thoughts. Mandalorians are a dying breed which you always thought was a shame- you admired the craftsmanship of the baskar and most of their values yet there was a mandalorian standing in front of you outside your home. This was different- you had heard and even sometimes seen the mandalorian bounty hunter around however this blue one was huge- Not even a rumour about big blue over there.

“You-“ He started, the slight roughness of his voice startled you, “Medic I need help.” The aggression in his voice annoyed you, how dare you come ask for help and act threatening however you weren’t about to piss off a mandalorian.

“Ok-“ You adjusted the bag on your shoulder as you reached for the door and opened it, however you noticed Big blue’s staggering foot steps so you kept the door open while approaching him. You were smaller than him but you wanted to help anyway; carefully lifting his arm over your head and shoulder. He resisted this for a few moments but you stared down his visor for a second while saying.
“You wanted help, I’m helping-“ You chastised him, barely noticed the strange exhale that came through the helmet distorted by the modulator. You felt the weight drop on the shoulder, you were fully aware that he wasn’t letting his weight fully drop; you were thankful for that. He would crush you if he decided.

You called this place your home but it used to be an old infirmary. Clearly it used to be in a better state but still being used, the place you slept in was hidden away from this room. Letting Blue drop to the cot in the centre of the room, he let out a small grunt. You placed the bag next to him and began to empty the contents. After placing everything you turned back to him, his visor was fully trained on you as you moved clearly on alert. You could only guess what the wound was, guessing it was a stab wound. Gesturing to armour, you asked if
“Would you like help removing all that?” His head turned quickly to you, seeming confused or offended at your question but you frowned slightly, “I can’t help you through all that clothing and armour.”

He let out an exhale, reaching up his hand to begin to start undressing however he let out a groan of pain and his arm retracted. You softy exhaled while approaching him and you began to help. Gently placing the beskar to the side you mostly kept silent, when you got the clothing underneath the cold armour. As you began to undo his flight suit his hand suddenly shot up and grasped your wrists, making your jolt in surprise. Turning your gaze to his visor, making a guess to where his eyes were.
“Mandalorian-“ You started trying to hide the slight fear in your expression, “This would go faster for the both of us if you let me work- Please. let. go. of. me.”
“For a medic, you lack bedside manner.” His grip slowly dropped and dropped to his side and his tone was laced with amusement which you barely picked up. A smile pricked at your lips as you got the flight suit over his shoulders, his skin was a rich brown colour and decorated with scars. On his side, there was a wound. You recognised it as a stab wound, not very deep but the dried blood mixed with new blood told you that it had been bleeding for a while.
“I mostly fix bounty hunters and an occasional criminal. They typically don’t care for it.” You said with a slight smirk.

He remained silent after this, even when you asked him to lay back down. Your hand glided over the wound, cleaning the blood from the wound. Careful not to cause unnecessary pain however that was harder by Blue’s constant shifting, placing a hand on him your previously annoyed tone had shifted to a softer one.
“Please, I understand that this isn’t fun but please stop moving around.”
He stopped tilted his helmet towards you before giving you a curt nod, you smiled back before turning back to your work. After that, you were finished quickly patching him up. He leaned back up and begrudgingly let you help him dress and put on his armour. Washing the blood of your hands, you expected Blue to just leave as most did, however he waited for you to face him again. You looked up at him, without the adrenaline of first meeting Blue you finally REALLY took him in. Truly, baskar is impressive to look at.
“How much credit’s is that?” He asked but you shook your head and raised your hand in a ‘no thanks’ gesture. Blue shook his head and insisted for you to take some credits but you kept refusing.
“Really. I don’t want it.”
“Why not?” Blue genuinely seemed very confused while trying to give you credits.
“Despite my-“ You paused trying to find the right words, “Less than appealing disposition. I’m glad to meet a mandalorian. I admire you. So, keep your credits mandalorian.”
It seem your sudden shift is behaviour shocked him for a moment so he stood for a couple of seconds before saying with almost a chuckle.
“You’re are strange woman.” You shrug casually fully aware of this honestly you stopped caring a long time ago, “At Least you bedside manner is improving.” He added causing you yourself to laugh then nodded your head towards the door.
“Go on- Big blue.” You pointed to the door, “Try not to get into anymore trouble.”
“Big blue?” He tilted his helment to the side, an inquisitive motion which made you smile.
“I don’t know your name; Big Blue is the best way to describe you.”
“Than Adenn Baar’ur, you have a good night.” He spoke in a language you weren’t familiar with as he approched the door, you let out a gentle gasp; you wouldn’t admit that his already pleasing voice sounded so good when speaking in Mando’a.
“And what does that mean?” You questioned as you followed him to the door, he turned back to you while looking down to you.
“Merciless Medic.” You gasped and put a hand to your chest in mock horror and turned up your nose to him much to Blues amusement.
“I’m not that bad!”
“I’ve heard the rumours.”
Rumours? What rumours were able to reach the ears of a mandaloiran? You genuinely seemed confused as you peered up Blue. Before frowning a little bit this time the horror was slightly real and your cheek grew a little bit warm from embarrassment. Blue chuckled while turning away and began to walk back through the alley. Leaning your body out of the door you called after Big Blue as his back was turned to you.
“What kind of rumours? What do people say about me?” He paused to glance back at you, you could feel the smirk looking at you and you only flushed with embarrassment.
“I’ll tell you next time.” You stopped for a few seconds, next time.
“You better not be planning to get injured again!” You yelled back, you could barely hear the laugh he made as he rounded the corner.

Sighing, as he felt ear shot. The sigh trailed off into a laugh as you lent against the room for a couple of seconds until you heard a distant yell.
“Djarin!”
As the door to your room opened and a woman came through the doorway, clearly Aki had just woken up and wasn’t too happy about it. Rubbing her eyes she walked into the infirmary and noticed the bloodied equipment you had yet to clean or throw away. She knew you were just out for a quick trip not bringing anyone back yet Aki didn’t bother questioning it as she scolded you for being loud but after she was done and could return back to your shared sleeping quarters you asked her something.
“Am I merciless?’
“Yes.” Aki said without hesitation, you puffed out your cheeks like an annoyed child and put your hands on your hips.
“Screw you- I’m an amazing person.”
“Yes, Y/N. Yes you are-“ She muttered as she closed the door behind her.

Felt alone in the room, you let out a soft chuckle as you began to clean up the mess while thinking of Blue’s words. You hoped that he would come see you again and it would be because he wanted to and not because he was hurt. After finishing cleaning up, you finally retired to bed. Collapsing into your cot, letting out a long drawn out sigh. Exhaustion finally catching up with you as you fall to sleep.

Screams rang out as smoke billowed from the house that had just been blown up, you had been thrown to the ground, a pain shooting through your head and your leg felt like it was broken as rubbles pinned you to the floor. Quietly sobbing you, looked around the town as they fled but Din was kneeling by your side trying to pull you from the rubble. You were both sobbing, struggling to break free and you tried to tell Din to run.
“Please!” You yelled but Din ignored you while trying to pull you free. “Din! GO!”
“No! I’m not leaving you!” He sobbed.
He leant down and wrapped his small and weak arms around your torso and tried to pull you free but had to let go when you let out a yelp of pain. He only had let go for a couple seconds when you noticed it- a droid had spotted you two and was about to fire. Pushing Din back on to hit butt just before the shot struck the building- burying you in rubble only hearing the distant screams of your brother.

Then the scream was your own, now sitting bolt upright in your bed. Skin soaked in sweat as you hand clutched the fabric of your shirt, your throat felt so dry as you took in rough and unsteady breaths. Your chest shuddered as tears threatened to escape your eyes but you slapped your cheek; hard. Cradling your face in your hands, you let out one long drawn out breath while resting your head on your knees as you pinned them to your chest.
