Wait For It

Summary:

Day 2: I went really Rogue, partially fix it

Notes:

I went REALLY rogue today, because I am absolute shite at goodbyes.

This one came to be a few weeks ago when I had a REALLY bad day. It’s my comfort song, and is a reminder to keep going when I need it. Ironically, it got me writing, which made me feel a lot better!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Theodosia writes me a letter every day

I'm keeping the bed warm while her husband is away

He's on the British side in Georgia

He's trying to keep the colonies inline

But he can keep all of Georgia

Theodosia, she's mine

It never ceases to amaze him how much one person could change him. Ellie. He never could have imagined that one day he would have a song from a musical of all things on repeat as his gym playlist. She did that. She was the one that got him into this music in the first place. And here he is, earbuds, punching bag, and this song that makes him think of her. Her and her damn letters. Letters he could only wish were every day.

Love doesn't discriminate

Between the sinners and the saints

It takes and it takes and it takes

And we keep loving anyway

We laugh and we cry and we break

And we make our mistakes

And if there's a reason I'm by her side

When so many have tried

Then I'm willing to wait for it

I'm willing to wait for it

Love does keep taking from him, doesn’t it? It’s taken all of him. She’s taken all of him with her. And yet he keeps on loving her, mistakes and all. She’s had her own bad luck at love and chose him. He can wait for it.

My grandfather was a fire and brimstone preacher

Preacher, Preacher, Preacher

But there are things that the

Homilies and hymns won't teach ya

Teach ya, Teach ya, Teach ya

My mother was a genius, Genius

My father commanded respect, Respect, Respect

When they died they left no instructions

Just a legacy to protect

He’s always felt the need to protect himself, his heart. Losing so many people changed him in a way that nothing else could. And that fear, it kept him from being happy with her.

Death doesn't discriminate

Between the sinners and the saints

It takes and it takes and it takes

And we keep living anyway

We rise and we fall and we break

And we make our mistakes

And if there's a reason I'm still alive

When everyone who loves me has died

I'm willing to wait for it (Wait for it)

I'm willing to wait for it

Death is all too frequent in his life. He faces it every day, her more so now. Good agents have gone, bad people have gone, yet he’s still defying odds and he’s here. She’s still alive. That is enough.

Wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it

I am the one thing in life I can control

He is the only thing he can control. Always has been.

Wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it

I am inimitable, I am an original

Even if sometimes he needs to remind himself, he’s here for a reason.

Wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it

I'm not falling behind or running late

He’s always been hitting that reset button. Maybe if he hadn’t, he wouldn’t be here, wouldn’t have her love.

Wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it,

*punch*

wait for it

I'm not standing still

I am lying in wait (Wait, wait, wait)

Hamilton faces an endless uphill climb

(Climb, climb, climb)

He has something to prove

He has nothing to lose

(Lose, lose, lose, lose)

Hamilton's pace is relentless

He wastes no time

(Time, time, time)

What is it like in his shoes?

It’s almost like pressing that reset button. He’s always felt like he already lost so much. God losing her for just those two weeks between when she left and getting her first letter were hell. But now? He’s waiting for her. Losing her forever would end him. He wonders what it would be like to be able to put himself out there like that.

Hamilton doesn't hesitate

He exhibits no restraint

He takes and he takes and he takes

And he keeps winning anyway

He changes the game

He plays and he raises the stakes

And if there's a reason

He seems to thrive when so few survive, then Goddamnit

I'm willing to wait for it (Wait for it)

I'm willing to wait for it

It’s time to raise the stakes. He will wait for her, but when she’s back, no more waiting. No more hesitating. No more restraint. He’s had his reasons for hesitating, for pressing that reset button. Goddamn it he will thrive.

Life doesn't discriminate

Between the sinners and the saints

It takes and it takes and it takes

And we keep living anyway

We rise and we fall

We fall and we break

And we make our mistakes

And if there's a reason I'm still alive

When so many have died

Then I'm willin' to-

They’ve both been on the side of the sinners and the saints. Life keeps taking from them, but they keep going, for each other. There’s a reason he’s still alive, a reason to keep going, to not press that reset button. Ellie.

Wait for it, Wait for it, wait for it

Wait for it, Wait for it, wait for it

Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it

Wait

He just has to wait for it.

I know I said I wasn’t posting today, but I switched some things around, so maybe I won’t have Sunday done.
