Work Text:

You had been crying in your room for a good part of the afternoon, the weight of the world was on your shoulders and you couldn’t catch a break no matter how hard you tried. Not wanting Sam and Dean to see you cry, you hid away in your room, making up some excuse about organizing your chest of drawers and other belongings.

Nearly three hours had gone by and for the last half hour you had been laying down since sitting upright was starting feel like too much after the exhaustion of crying. The knock on your door didn’t startle you as you figured it was Sam, but before you could answer, Jack pressed the door open. His appearance in your doorway did catch you by surprise, he’d never really come to your room before except for once and it will as only to ask about Netflix. When you weren’t in your room though, you and Jack were practically inseparable. You sat up and quickly dried your eyes but the smile faded from his features as he furrowed his brows, stepping inside your room and shutting the door behind himself. “Y/N, what’s wrong… why are you crying all alone?”

“I’m fine, I just… I’ve just been really stressed lately, but it’s okay.”

“You wouldn’t be crying if it was okay.” He sat down beside you and placed a hand on your shoulder, gazing into your eyes with an innocent ‘please let me help’ gleam. “Do Sam and Dean know you’re so stressed? I know they wouldn’t want you crying.”

“I’m okay, really Jack. I promise.”

“Then why are you crying?” He insisted.

“Sometimes humans just need to cry and get it out before they go back to business as usual. It’s normal, especially for people that are a little more on the softhearted side.”

Jack nodded and he thought about what Cas and Sam had told him when he’d asked him for advice a few days back. “Well… can I keep you company? We could maybe watch a movie or something.”

You smiled, your stubborn heart dropping all of its hard built barriers without any effort for the sweet nephilim. “I think company would be nice.” Jack practically beamed at your response and you couldn’t help but blush.

You pulled back the covers and settled on the bed, with your back against the headboard and patted the mattress beside you. Jack slipped off his shoes and happily claimed the spot next to you. Figuring that it was a little chilly in the bunker, you covered both of your laps with the blankets and he shifted a little, “You can uncover if you want, I’m sorry… I just get kinda cold in here so I thought you might too.”

“I don’t really feel cold or hot, I think it’s the angel grace. But I like the covers, your blankets are really soft.” He smiled, relieved when he saw that you were happy with his response. Seeing your remote on your nightstand, he handed it to you, “We can watch anything you want.” He offered, watching you click through until you settled on ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’.

A few minutes in, Jack glanced over to you, watching you watch the show, and he laced an arm around your shoulders, sighing in relief when you snuggled against his side. “So what do you think of the show so far?”

“It’s good, the taxi driver is odd though.”

“Oh, just wait.” You giggled, the sound making Jack’s heart fill with adoration, but the feeling didn’t last long before being overtaken by guilt.

“Um, Y/N?”

“Yeah?” You questioned, looking up at him with glittering E/C eyes.

“Sam said that I should be honest with you and so did Castiel, but I’m worried you’ll get mad.”

You sat up, looking at him in confusion and pausing the show. “Jack, I don’t know what’s wrong but I won’t be mad at you… what haven’t you been honest about?”

“I really like you and when I told Sam and Castiel how you make me feel, they said I was in love with you… I’m really sorry, Y/N, I know that I don’t know a lot yet about being human or being a hunter but I’m trying and I know that I really like spending time with you. Please don’t be upset.”

“Jack, I’m not upset at all. In all honesty, I really like you too. I just didn’t think you’d ever feel the same way about me.”

“Why wouldn’t I? You’re smart, and kind, and beautiful, and funny. You always explain things to me when Dean makes a reference or a joke I don’t understand. You’re always really nice to me when I accidentally do something wrong and you make me happy. Castiel says I always smile when you walk in the room.”

“I feel the same way about you.” You blushed, “Dean’s even teased me a few times when he caught me staring at you while you and Cas were talking.”

“So does that mean we can be more than friends?”

“I’d like to give it a try, as long as you would too.”

“I would.”

You smiled brightly, tugging your bottom lip between your teeth nervously before giving him a quick kiss on his cheek. Jack wrapped his arm around you again, pulling you close to his side and kissing your forehead, smiling when you let out a happy little humming noise and snuggled even closer, turning your body towards him and draping your arm across his waist. “I’m really glad you came in to check on me.”

“Me too.” He responded softly, resting his hand on your arm and gently massaging little patterns with his thumb.
