Work Text:

Roman was writing.

He wasn’t finished yet.

He’d written an awful lot at this point. He’d even sketched a bit. He wasn’t sure how long he’d been working, but he still wasn’t done so he could keep going. He’d been behind, hadn’t he? He was just catching up. And he was feeling motivated, which was great! He could just ride this wave until the motivation ran out, and then…

Don’t worry about that. Focus on the work. It was a good story. He was interested in it, right? This was fun.

He wasn’t finished yet.

“Roman?” It was Logan. He’d probably knocked first. Roman couldn’t remember. He was almost done with this section, he could just finish it and then respond.

“Roman?” Ugh, impatient much? Couldn’t he just hold on a second?

“Roman are you okay?” Yes. Of course he was. He was fine. He just needed to finish this part and then he could worry about Logan, couldn’t he just wait 30 seconds? He was almost done.

“Roman, I’m coming in.”

Why? Couldn’t he just leave him alone? This amount of motivation was rare, just let him work, he was fine.

“Roman?” Roman jumped a bit. He hadn’t noticed Logan come up beside him.

He wasn’t finished yet.

“Roman, we haven’t seen you since yesterday, are you alright?” Yesterday? He hadn’t gone to get breakfast, but he could do that in a second.

Logan touched his shoulder and he flinched. “Just hold on Logan, I’m almost done, just let me finish," he snapped.

He wasn’t finished yet.

“Roman, have you eaten anything today?” He didn’t remember eating anything. Had he? “Roman it’s 7 pm.” Really? But he’d just started! He couldn’t stop now.

Maybe he should stop.

He should stop right?

Why couldn't he stop?

He felt Logan crouch down next to him. “Roman, have you taken any breaks?”

“Logan I don’t- I didn’t-“

Logan put his hand on his arm. “Roman, just, put the pen down for a second, okay?”

“But, I’m not finished yet.”

“Roman, your desk is full of paper, you’ve done enough.”

“But I’m not finished yet!”

Roman felt a hand on his face. “Roman, Roman just look at me-“

“Logan, I’m not-!”

He felt Logan turn his face gently away from his work. He tried to keep his eyes on it until he couldn’t anymore and suddenly he was looking at Logan with tears on his face.

“L-Logan-“ He’d wanted to say more, but before he could he’d collapsed onto Logan, trembling.

“Shhhhh.” Logan was rubbing slow circles on his back as he realized how tired he was. And hungry. He sniffed a few times and tried to stop shaking.

“Logan?” Patton?

Logan shifted slightly and Roman whimpered, trying to hug him back to hold him there, discovering that he could barely lift his arms. His hands hurt.

“Oh!” Patton began to whisper instead. “You were gone for like 15 minutes, so I came to check. Are you two okay?”

“I believe we are now.” Logan rubbed his back a few more times. “Roman simply needed some assistance in getting ‘unstuck’. He will need some rest, water, and possibly food if he can eat before he falls asleep.”

“Logan,” he whispered.

“Yes, Roman?”

“I really have to pee.”

“Alright. Do you think you can walk to the bathroom?”

Roman whimpered and hugged Logan tighter in response.

“Okay. Patton, could you-“

“I’ll be back with some water and dinner.”

About an hour later, Roman was tucked under several blankets. Patton had tried to feed him the entire kitchen, but he’d been too tired to eat more than a little. The rest of them had stopped by, too. Virgil had dropped off his weighted blanket. Janus had switched out his water for a Gatorade and reminded him to take care of himself more. Remus had simply hugged him. Roman knew he’d had his own days like this. Right before Patton had helped him into bed, Logan had dropped off a few sticky notes listing how to prevent days like this. He could read them tomorrow. Patton was currently carding his hand through his hair as he drifted off, feeling very, very loved by his family.

Notes:

Sometimes I get stuck doing things, even if I'm working on stuff I really like. Hopefully I described the feeling well.
