Chapter Text
It was getting late, Adora wasn't supposed to be out this long. She huffed and sped up her walking. The rain was being barely held off by the small umbrella Glimmer forced her to bring. Her arms and legs were beginning to get wetter, moving slowly to soak her clothes. She let out a hushed curse.
She could finally see the beginning of her street, the telltale broken-down building sitting in the storm. Just before she began to sprint home, she saw a figure curled up near a building. The overhead lights illuminating them. Adora slowed to get a better look. A woman, they looked, with short, rough, brown hair and cat ears, her tail wrapped around her tightly. She seemed disheveled, torn shorts and a t-shirt, darkened by the rain. Adora came to a stop right in front of her. The woman had her head down, resting on her knees, she probably didn’t notice Adora. She did notice, however, that the rain had suddenly stopped, or it seemed like it. She could still hear it which seemed odd. She lifted her head slowly to see Adora standing there, her umbrella held over Catra’s head. Catra was shocked, she hadn't expected anyone to be out there so late at night, let alone to stop for her.
Adora cleared her throat, “ Um, are you okay? I- I mean, probably not, you’re in the rain. Sorry, um, I can let you stay at my place for the night? I couldn't leave you out here in good conscience.” She chuckled lightly.
Catra was just confused. She looked around, no one was with her. She didn’t feel up to trusting today, or ever. She just sighed and rested her head down again. Adora frowned, she really didn’t want the woman to stay out here all night. A few awkward seconds passed, and a loud thunder clapped in the sky. Catra jumped involuntarily. She cursed in her head, hopefully, the woman didn’t notice. But she did.
Adora lifted the umbrella back towards her causing Catra to look up again. She expected The woman to leave. But instead, she motioned towards herself with a welcoming smile. Catra shivered and weighed out her options: stay out here in the pouring, cold rain or go with this seemingly nice stranger in the middle of the night. She figured she was already out here, how bad could this woman be to veto her offer.
Catra stood up and shuffled under the umbrella, there was barely enough room for the both of them. Adora nodded her head and began to walk. And Catra followed.
They made it back to Adora’s apartment. Catra looked around warily, the place seemed well enough. She shrugged and made her way to the couch. Before she could collapse out of exhaustion, Adora yelled.
“Wait! Sorry,” she spoke softly, “ Hold on, let me get you dry clothes.” She put down her bag on the table and walked off to her room. Catra waited, mildly ignored, but she pushed that away. She was supposed to be better now, that’s partly why she ended up like this in the first place.
Adora came back with a simple shirt and pajama pants. Adora handed them to her and pointed to the bathroom, “ Take your time, I’ll be in the kitchen when you’re done.” She moved away to the kitchen. Catra looked down at the clothes in her hands, then to Adora, then to the bathroom. She walked over slowly and entered the bathroom. It was simple enough. She changed and put her wet clothes in a corner, she’d get them when she woke up. She moved back to the living room. She could hear Adora moving around in the kitchen, the sound of muffled voices also emerged in her ears. She decided it wasn't her business and went to crash on the couch. She lay for a few minutes, dozing lightly. She felt something drape over her, she startled up. Adora was over her, moving a blanket over her. Adora noticed that she awoke and looked sheepish, “ Sorry, I was just giving you a blanket”. She put the rest over Catra’s shoulders and backed away.
“Um, I'm gonna go to bed now, good night. I, uh, don’t know what's gonna happen tomorrow. I guess...you can stay for a few days if you want. Unless you have somewhere to go. Or, uh, anything. Sorry, I’m rambling. Good night. Again.” She retreated to her room then. Catra dropped her head down against the armrest. She smiled lightly, thinking about how dorky the woman was, and how simply attractive as well. Catra huffed, now is not the time for that.
She didn’t plan on staying long. She was probably going to leave as soon as she woke up. Staying wouldn’t be a bad thing either, she thought briefly, as she fell asleep.
