Work Text:

She didn’t know when the idea had popped into her head. And any other things that had happened throughout Olivia's life just built up upon that day.

For years she had been ready to do it, only to find she had a few inches left on her rope. Her partner would come crawling to her with a new crack in his heart for her to stick around and fix - A new victim would cry their tears and beg her to find their rapist - Or she would find a baby in a drawer and feel that spark to live just a little longer.

Noah. She loved that boy so much it hurt. And if she were to relieve herself from her own pain, she would just pass it on to him.

A groan escaped her lips and its hot air mixed with the frigid atmosphere, instantly appearing a white cloud that disappeared just as fast.

She took a moment to actually see where she was.

She’d picked herself up off that curb in front of the bar and started walking aimlessly almost an hour ago now. The street she’d stumbled down was silent. The air tasted salty, it’s silty essence almost palpable. Seagulls cawed in the dark distance and the faint sound of waves crashing accompanied them. Suddenly the row of trees on her left gave away and it clicked. She was in the same spot where her and Ed had said goodbye. She found herself bitterly wishing she'd never known him - had never loved him. Lonely people don't get hurt. But like some freak of nature, she was here. Hurting and alone.

She steps forward, her long legs sending her two ahead.

But maybe being alone and being lonely weren't the same thing.

The gravel screamed under each football, the sounds becoming more and more frequent.

So why did she constantly feel like she was suffocating in people if she was so forlorn?

The gravel took up the syncopation of someone running on it, and her hair began to glide on the wind with each beat.

There's no reason or logic to it. To anything that involves her really.

Her arms started pumping and whoever was running better stop because she was getting tired.

Olivia's eyes snapped open, her mind realizing in sync. She was the one running. Her brain had spurred action somewhere along the lines, and now she was doing it. Stopping wasn't an option. Momentum was pushing her forward and she felt invincible, a grin forming as she realized that this was happening.

She closed her eyes again and - just do it.

Her high school hurdles coach would've been proud of Olivia Benson's form as she pushed off and cleared the metal railing with ease. She was free falling. Flying. Is this what Wonder Woman feels like? The water parted and received her body as it disappeared in the cold liquid
