Sadness , that was what has surrounded Severus.
Afterall he was the ugly child, the unlucky child.
He remembered his mother’s words well, “We were so happy till you came along.”. She was a woman, who blamed her child for her own bad decision.
‘I didn’t ask for any of this. Mother ran away on her own and lied to father. Father couldn’t bear the truth. What is left is just a shell. How am I responsible for everything? It’s not my fault that I am not a squib. I wish for a better life but I am unlucky.’
Severus reflected on his life. He hated being in Slytherin, he only joined the house because it was his mother’s house but he regrets it every day.
He was a poor half-blood which meant that the pure-bloods kept a very distant relation with him. While they where not mean with him unlike the marauders, the Slytherins kept their distance.
But once he displayed his skills, the Slytherins treated him a lot better.
He wore his school robes and started walking towards his class when he suddenly tripped.
Severus got up and saw the four clowns laughing, Remus had the decency to look away and trying to hide his laughter while the other laughed openly.
“What’s the matter Snivelly? Snake got your legs?” Sirius mocked.
“This area stinks.” James added.
“When was the last time you took a bath?” Sirius asked.
Peter added “Smelly Snivellus”
Severus gave them an angry look before going away.
“Don’t run you trash.”
“Stop this nonsense” a girl spoke out.
James turned and saw another Slytherin student there.
“Why hello there, normally I would listen to you but you are a slytherin, what a waste for a pretty face.” James added.
“Oh look, the black-sheep of the Brown family, how does it feel like to be the only Brown in Slytherin?” Sirius mocked.
“The same as being the black-sheep on the Black house.” The girl spoke back.
“The audacity!” Sirius said and went away.
Severus was amused at the clown gang’s action but then realized everything, the girl was pure-blood and rich just like James and Sirius and socially she was at par with them.
‘They bully the weak’
Severus watched the girl walk up to him, “Are you fine Snape?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, I am going to class.” Severus watched his housemate walk away. He waited for few minutes and Evan Rosier joined him, “Did they irritate you?”
“Yes.”
They walked in silence and walked up to the transfiguration class that they shared with Ravenclaw.
“Black” Regulus turned when he heard Severus call him.
“Yes Snape?”
“What are you doing here? This is supposed to be for 3rd year and you are in 2nd year.”
“I am waiting for someone.” Regulus reasoned.
Rosier smirked like he knew something and dragged Severus with him in class.
“What’s up with him?”
“I cannot believe you are this dull. For someone who is topping classes, you are too blind” Rosier said.
“Just say it already”
“Alright bookworm, the Blacks and Princes are doing a peace treaty , apparently they had a huge family feud for something that happened 300 years go.”
Severus became alert when he heard the word Prince, ‘What has that got to do with anything?’
“Brown’s mother is a Prince and the Prince’s are survived from their female side. There is a rumour that Lord Black and Lady Brown-Prince is planning on getting their kids married. The younger Black and Brown might get married, if they want to that is.”
“What happened?” Severus asked.
“Wrong person to ask. Brown might tell but it is a family secret.”
‘What is going on?’ Severus asked.
Lily stared at Severus, “What is it Lils?”
“Did you hear the rumour, Sev?”
“What rumour?”
“Apparently, two people are getting engaged.”
“Lils, no”
“I swear Mary was telling about two people are getting engaged.”
“I have no idea Lils, can I focus on my studies.”
“No Sev, we need to get to the bottom on this, I need details.”
“Can you not? Or are you planning to marry James?”
“That bully toerag? No thank you.”
“Are you sure?”
“Do not make me vomit Sev.”
While Lily was talking with Severus, James looked at Lily dreamily, “Lily is so beautiful”
“Yes we know” Remus said.
“I want to make her a Potter”
“We know” Peter added
“She would look good in a red and golden gown.”
“I know” Sirius added.
“Can you imagine our wedding date?”
“Can we talk about the fact that my brother might get engaged?” Sirius said.
“He is 12”
“Mother doesn’t care, Father agrees with mother. The other party decided to not force them and let them start as friends.”
“Who is the other party?”
“Browns”
“Why would the gryffindors marry a slytherin?”
“Our classmate, the slytherin one.”
It has been a month since the entire rumour started but now it had died down seeing the Brown girl and Regulus not communicate with each other much.
“I heard you were a Prince?” Severus asked.
“Yes. You are a half-blood right?”
“Yes, my mother was a pure-blood.”
Severus blurred out “Prince, she was Eileen Prince.”
The girl’s eyes widened “Wait, your mother ran away ?”
“Yes.”
“Our mothers are sisters, you are my cousin.” Brown said.
“Oh” Severus was surprised at the information.
Little did Severus know what this would lead to.
