When Yuya and Yoko got home from the battle royale Yuya went straight to his room without saying anything. Yoko sighed as she watched him go up the stairs, Reiji had no right to drag him and all those other kids into war! She supposed Yuya probably would've gone anyway, considering how Yuzu had gone missing and was apparently in one of those other dimensions they had been talking about. She'd still chew Reiji out for recruiting a bunch of kids for this, and without even telling them about what the championship was really about either! That would have to wait though, her son needed her.
Yoko knocked lightly on Yuya's door and waited for a moment, when there was no response she knocked again, this time saying "Yuya, it's me. Can I come in and talk to you sweetie?"
After a pause came the muffled reply "sure, I guess so." Very little emotion could be heard in his voice, but Yoko knew her son, she could hear his true emotions; the hurt, the sorrow and the confusion at all that had happened and been revealed earlier that day. She opened the door and stepped inside. Yuya was sitting on his bed, goggles over his eyes reflecting the light of the setting sun. Yoko walked over and sat on bed next to him.
"You know, you can talk to me about anything." Yoko said, placing her hand gently on Yuya's knee. She could see the way he trembled as he tried to keep it together, to hide how much he was hurting. It hurt her to see him this way. "I can tell you're hurting."
"I'm fine," Yuya tried to deny it, the tremors in his voice giving away the truth, as he fought back tears and turned away from her, "I'm just…tired is all, I'll feel better in the morning."
"Yuya," Yoko leaned forward slightly, trying to get into her son's line of sight, "it's okay to let it all out sometimes you know. You'll never feel better if you just bottle it all up inside, so please, talk to me about it. I'm here to listen. Tell me about everything that's making you sad. And don't tell me everything is fine, because it clearly isn't."
After a few moments of silence, Yuya let out heavy sigh, "I guess I could never hide it from you." He peeked between his bangs to look at her and took off his goggles, letting his tears fall freely, and it broke Yoko's heart to see that look in his eyes, "Yuzu- Yuzu's gone and I don't know if she's ok." -He shook with barely held in sobs - "and Sora is apparently part of the whole organization that's trying to take her, and- and now Reiji wants us to go to- to different dimensions to fight a war it's…it's all just so much." Yuya broke down into tears at this point, leaning into Yoko who wrapped her arms around him and ran a hand soothingly through his hair.
"It's ok sweetie, let it all out." She said, and began humming a soft, comforting tune as she held him close to herself and rocked them both gently side to side. After a time he began to calm down and his breaths came more steadily.
"Mom, what if…what if I can't find Yuzu?" Yuya's voice was tearful as he voiced the thought that must've been on his mind since he had found out she was gone. "What if Academia comes and attacks here while we're all gone? What if we fail? What if Synchro is under academia's control already? What if none of us come back?"
"You'll find Yuzu." She said, giving his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "And I'm sure that while she's gone, she won't stop fighting to come home. So, if you don't, it'll be because she found her way back here on her own." Yoko pulled away to look Yuya in the eyes, "But you already know that much. If Academia comes here, we'll just have to push them out. We're not going to give in to them. If you fail…" Yoko took in a breath, "If you try and fail, it's better than not having tried at all. Mind you, as your mom, I could never imagine sending you off to something like this, especially without going first to try and spare you of this, but I don't see a way around it." She had to pause here, be calm, be reassuring. Yoko couldn't help her son if she was sobbing her eyes out too, or screaming about how wrong this all was. she can do that later. "If Academia has Synchro, there's bound to be a resistance there just like they say there is in the xyz dimension. You will come back. And if you don't, I'll personally go and kick whatever creep tried to take you away from me."
Yuya smiled a little at that. He was still crying, but he seemed comforted somewhat which was all that Yoko could really ask for at this moment. "I," Yuya spoke softly, hesitantly, "I'm still scared. But...that does help a lot. Thanks mom."
"It’s okay to be scared; it means your about to do something brave. And I'll always be here for you." Yoko said, giving him one last peck on the cheek before leaning back, "I don't agree with Reiji's plans, nor do I condone them, but I know that you'd go off to save Yuzu either way, so I'm glad you won't be alone."
Yuya hugged her again and they held each other tight for a moment before finally breaking apart. "Well," Yoko began gently, "If you're feeling a little better, you should probably get to bed. It's been a long day and you'll need your rest."
"Yeah," Yuya agreed, "that sounds nice."
"Goodnight," Yoko saud hugging him one last time before shestood up to leave. "Sweet dreams. If you need anything you know I'll be here for you. I've got some things to deal with of my own so I'll be up for a when longer."
"Goodnight mom," Yuya replied, "thanks"
Yuya was just getting up from the bed when Yoko closed the door and started down the hall. As she entered her room and leaned against her door Yoko finally let herself break down. Her son and his friends never deserved this. None of the people affected did.
