Summary:

PART 3 SPOILERS!!! An alternate ending for Stardust Crusaders in which Dio taunts Jotaro for getting to Kakyoin before he could, and events unfold a little differently in the aftermath. (a Kakyoin Lives AU)

Notes:

This is chapter one of what I'm now planning to be a 5 chapter fic. It started out as a really self indulgent little drabble about Dio being an asshole but then suddenly there was plot? And part 4 characters getting involved? And tears being shed? So I figured I'd post the first chapter while I finish up the second and third (and now fourth and fifth). They should hopefully be up later this week!! Marked underage because Kakyoin is 17.

Chapter 1: Shatter

Chapter Text

"Stay safe."

That was the last thing he had said to Jotaro before they split up. Stay safe.

There was nothing safe about what they were going to do, about what they were doing at that very moment. To even suggest that Jotaro could possibly stay safe while battling the century old vampire with unknown powers who had murdered his great great grandfather was almost laughable. Abdul and Iggy were already gone, with not even any bodies left to bury.  It seemed nearly too easy to follow them.

At the same time, there was nothing else he could have said to him. Good luck, perhaps, but luck would have nothing to do with it. This was Dio, and the only way to defeat him would be through strategy or sheer might. I love you, maybe, but he hadn't had the nerve. They'd never said it to each other before, though it was implied in the way their shoulders brushed as they sat in the back of the car together, in the way their legs curled together in shifty hotel beds in towns they'd never heard of, even in the way Jotaro had looked at him as he'd said those stupid, stupid words: Stay safe.

Regardless, the moment was gone, and Kakyoin was sitting in the passenger seat of a stolen pick-up truck, nursing his tattered hands as Mr. Joestar raced through the streets of Cairo, the vampire hot on their tails. He didn't even have time to start bandaging his wounds, as Jotaro's grandfather suddenly spoke up.

"That's odd," Joseph murmured, slowing the truck as he looked into the rear view mirror, "Dio's car stopped."

Kakyoin went to turn around when suddenly a growing shadow caught his eye.

"LOOK OUT! SOMETHING'S FLYING THIS WAY!" He shouted, and at that exact moment, that very something came crashing through the back windshield and landed, splattering, between the two of them.

It was the corpse of Dio's driver.

Before Kakyoin's damaged eyes could even take in the grotesque scene decorating the interior of the vehicle, the entire car was jolting to the side, rolling over and crumpling in on itself with a thunderous crash.

"MR. JOESTAR!" Kakyoin yelled, and the two barely had the time to summon Hierophant Green and Hermit Purple to yank them free of the metal death trap before it barrel rolled into the wall of an adjacent building.  Being dragged upwards by the tendrils of his stand, which had curled around the upper spires of aforementioned building, Kakyoin had an idea.  He alighted on top of the building and ran back to the edge of the roof to look down at where Dio now stood, inspecting the wreckage of the car they had been in moments before.

"What are you doing, Kakyoin?!" the older man shouted, just as the redhead reached up to take off his sunglasses and stare Dio in the eyes.

"I've got it," he said softly, "the way to reveal his stand."

Before he could move to put his plan into action however, the sound of a motorcycle's engine drew his attention to a nearby alleyway. Out of the mouth of the alley came Jotaro and Polnareff, the Frenchman with his arms wrapped around Jotaro's middle as they skidded to a halt about 10 yards from where Dio was standing.

Shit, Kakyoin thought as he watched Polnareff and Jotaro leap off the bike, taking up fighting stances. I have a plan, I just need them not to get themselves killed before I can put it into action!

Dio watched the duo approach and disembark the motorcycle with a small smirk.

"Jotaro Kujo and Jean Pierre Polnareff. I was beginning to worry you would catch up to us too late for us to have a little chat," Dio drawled, placing one hand on a tilted hip.

It would have been the perfect moment for Kakyoin to set up his web trap with Heirophant Green, but he found himself rooted to the spot, unable to take his eyes off of Jotaro. It appeared the other teenaged boy was looking to face Dio head on, but without knowledge of his powers, he would inevitably fail.  Jotaro wouldn't be stupid enough to try to face the vampire without a further plan, would he?

Kakyoin was beginning to fear he would, as Jojo called Star Platinum to his side and Dio raised his eyebrows condescendingly.

Jotaro moved to take a step closer to Dio, presumably trying to get his stand in range to attack, when a sudden cry of "WAIT!" came to Kakyoin's ears.  It took him a moment to realize the person who had shouted was himself.

Both the other Japanese boy and the vampire snapped their heads up to look at the redhead on the edge of the roof.  Jotaro had a slight confused frown on his face, whereas Dio's smirk only grew.

"Well, if it isn't my old friend Noriaki," the vampire said. "Wise of you to call off your friend here; he wouldn't have lasted much longer standing any closer." Red eyes shifted between the two teenagers, calculating something. "Or, given your obvious almost foolish concern for him, should I call him something more?" The blonde said slowly, his eyes locking on Kakyoin and his eyebrows quirking in a challenge.

Kakyoin felt his blood run cold. He could feel Mr. Joestar's eyes on him briefly, and then the old man was yelling, "What are you playing at, Dio?"

Dio tossed his head back and laughed. Jotaro had stiffened imperceptibly at his words but seemed visibly shaken by his laughter.

"Are you really so oblivious, Joestar? Your grandfather Jonathan would have been the same. Always so gullible."

The vampire turned to face Jotaro again, a shit eating grin on his face. "So, does he still make those pathetic mewling noises when you enter him?"

Jotaro choked on his own saliva. "W-what? What the fuck are you talking about?" he managed to spit out, even as his stomach knotted. No, Dio couldn't be implying what he thought he was implying.

"I said, does he still whimper like a little whore when you put your dick in him?" Dio replied, his crooked fanged smile glistening even from so far away.

Kakyoin felt his heart drop out through the bottom of his stomach. Shit. Shit. Jotaro was never supposed to know. He had never told him.

"What?" Jotaro was replying dumbly, clearly shocked by Dio's words, but Kakyoin could barely hear him over the rushing in his own ears.

He had never felt so at ease with another person before. As well manicured hands ripped his school jacket from his shoulders and peeled his undershirt off over his head, he couldn't help but let out a contented sigh. He allowed himself to be laid out on the luxurious sheets of the master bed, feeling so honored to be permitted to lay there, especially with the warm body bearing down on him.

Dio let out a loud condescending laugh, dragging the red haired boy back to the present.

"You speak English well enough to understand what I mean, don't you?" The vampire chuckled condescendingly. "He's your boyfriend, is he not?"

Kakyoin couldn't move. He was frozen in place with mortification. Dio was going to tell him. Dio was going to tell Jotaro and there was nothing he could do about it.

The hands stroking over his body felt incredible, freeing his straining erection from his trousers and caressing it sensually. Kakyoin moaned as a well lubricated finger teased the outside of his hole, rubbing in small circles before slowly, slowly sliding inside. It was practically a religious experience, as he had never felt more safe or whole than he did in that moment, with his lord, his love, his entire world pressing into him and devoting his entire attention to him. Another finger was added and they began to scissor, sending pleasure unlike anything he had ever felt before zinging through his body. This was what he was born to do. He was created just to serve his master this way, the love of his life.

"Yes," Jotaro responded, and Kakyoin saw Polnareff turn to gape at the youngest of the Joestar line. "He's my boyfriend. That's none of your business. We've come here to kill you."

Dio laughed again, completely unconcerned with the threat hurled his way.

"Humor me," the vampire hummed. "He's awfully tight, isn't he? If your cock is half the size of Jonathan's it should still be quite a squeeze. Does that run in the family?"

Jotaro practically snarled. "What did you do to him?" He shouted, Star Platinum raising his fists threateningly.

"Jotaro don't! He's trying to bait you closer to him!" Kakyoin shrieked down at him, one of Heirophant's tendrils shooting out and wrapping around Star Platinum's wrist, holding him back. He knew his secret was out now; all he had left was to keep Jotaro safe.

When his Lord's flushed cock slid into him, for the first time in his life he felt complete. They both stilled for a moment, and his Master whispered sweet nothings to him as he curled his finger through Kakyoin's bangs, waiting for the boy to adjust. Then the younger of the two nodded slightly, dripping with sweat. The man over him, that pinnacle of masculinity, rolled his hips forward into him, causing an echoing moan to fall from Kakyoin's lips. For Kakyoin, this wasn't just fucking; his Lord was making love to him, taking his virginity, and Kakyoin was more than willing to give it. He would give his Dio anything.

"Oh, pardon me, Noriaki," Dio said with mock courtesy, turning to look up at Kakyoin with a sweeping gesture. "I forgot I could just ask you directly. Who's a better fuck, me, or your Jojo?"

Kakyoin felt his entire face heat up with mortification. There it was. There was nothing he could say to that.

"Shut up, Dio," he responded, his voice betraying him with a slight shake.

"Holy shit," Joseph whispered, somewhere to Kakyoin's right.

"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM?" Jotaro roared.

Dio turned back to Jojo lazily, tilting his head to one side.

"Nothing he didn't explicitly ask for."

That was the bombshell. Kakyoin could feel tears welling up behind his eyes. His knees trembled. He felt more like a lost child than he had through their entire journey up to this point.

Jotaro, to his credit, hadn't turned to shake Heirophant's tendril off of him in disgust yet. He hadn't whipped his head up to stare at Kakyoin in revulsion.  He didn't even turn to his boyfriend and demand an explanation.

What he did do was level a glare at Dio so venomous, so filled with hatred, even Polnareff, who was standing behind Jotaro, could feel it.

"Mind-control is not consent," he growled, hands curled into fists, trembling with rage at his sides.

Dio shrugged nonchalantly. "It seemed like pretty enthusiastic consent to me.  If it's any consolation, he loved every second of it. right, Noriaki?" He taunted over his shoulder.

Kakyoin clenched his hands into fists, trembling with what he wasn't certain was rage. He swallowed, composing himself. He had a plan.  He just needed to tempt the vampire over to him. "If you want to know what I think of you, Dio, come up here and find out," he shouted, wheeling around and sprinting for the opposite edge of the building, releasing Heirophant from Star Platinum's wrist. His stand wound itself into a sort of netted bridge between the edge of the building and a nearby spire, and Kakyoin dashed up the newly formed walkway to balance atop the point of the tower, even as he heard shouts of protest from Mr. Joestar and Jotaro behind him. He had to trust that Dio would be cocky enough that he wouldn't see the redhead as a threat, too vain to turn down a challenge.

As he twisted atop the spire to face back towards Dio and the others, he saw his gamble had been a safe one. Dio had apparently blown past Joseph, completely ignoring him, and was now headed for the edge of the roof. Kakyoin hurled an emerald splash towards him, hoping to stall him long enough to reweave Heirophant Green into a much broader web, one Dio would be incapable of passing through without touching.

If he touches my stand with his in order to get to me, I might be able to feel how it operates, he thought, watching as Dio brushed off his attack like it was nothing.  To his surprise, the sound of a motorcycle revving met his ears, and he glaced down to see Jotaro and Polnareff two blocks away, racing towards the bottom of the spire.

Shit, I've got to pull this off before they can interfere and get themselves killed!

Kakyoin's head snapped back up when he heard Dio's laughter from the edge of the roof. The vampire had reached the end of the building and was surveying the net in front of him with an amused expression.

"You really were a good fuck, Noriaki," Dio began. "I would have liked to have another go at you. It's a pity Jotaro took the flesh bud out. And it's a pity you have to die."

And then several things happened so quickly, they seemed to be almost instantaneous. First, Kakyoin felt a hand slice through every single strand of Heirophant Green at exactly the same time. Next, he heard a man scream, accompanied by the sound of tires skidding on asphalt.  And then, quite suddenly, Dio was directly in front of him.  His right arm extended forward in a way the didn't make sense given the position of Kakyoin's torso, which was occupying the same space.

The teenager had less than a second to parse this strange series of events before slamming backwards into a rooftop water tower, the metal buckling beneath him as he heard his bones snap with a sickening crunch. Strangely, there was no pain that accompanied it, but he had no time for his brain to catch up to the condition of his body.

He was dying.  He was vaguely aware of the fact that there was now a gaping hole in the place where his stomach should be.  He couldn't feel it.

It's 5:15 in Cairo, he thought idly. That means it's midnight in Japan. I wonder what my parents are doing... They're probably asleep... I'm sorry for making you worry.

But Kakyoin's last thoughts were not about his parents back home, nor were they about the humiliation dealt to him by Dio minutes before. In what he was certain were his final moments, his mind drifted to the puzzle of Dio's stand.

I can sense any movements within Heirophant Green's web, but Dio managed to break the entire web simultaneously. How? Not one strand at a time, but simultaneously.  Not even a ten-thousandth of a second difference. How did he destroy a 20 meter radius area in less than an instant? Simultaneously, not even a slight delay in time....

Time....

Time.

He understood.  Dio could stop time.

Somewhere, he heard Dio shouting something. But he couldn't even move.  He needed to warn the others, and he had only the briefest sliver of consciousness left.  With all of his effort, he called up Heirophant Green, and in a colossal exertion of energy, hurled the last emerald splash at the clock tower across the street. The face of the clock shattered, the hands grinding to a halt.

"My final emerald splash," he choked out. His last words.

He had done it. That was the best he could do to indicate the nature of Dio's power to the others. Joseph. Polnareff.

Jotaro.

He hoped they understood. He hoped that in whatever place awaited him after this life, they wouldn't be there to greet him. He hoped that someone would survive to bring his body home to his parents. He hoped that tonight would be Dio's last night on Earth as well.

He wished he had said goodbye to his mom and dad. He wished he could have taken his secret to the grave and that Jotaro would never have discovered the extent of his relationship with the vampire. He wished Abdul and Iggy were there.

It struck him as extremely unfair, as the edges of his vision faded to black, that anyone should have to die so young. He had plans and dreams and aspirations like anyone else. He had people he loved and people who loved him. He had loose ends he needed to tie up, but never would. Challenges he'd never beat. Things he'd never say.

And for a very brief moment before his world disappeared for good, he was okay with that.
