Work Text:
green against maroon.
it was a sight jake didn’t mind, he thinks briefly as he stares at where his robes flutter against the ones beside him.
but it seemed for the one bearing green the sentiment wasn’t shared.
“i refuse to have him as my partner.” sunghoon announces simply, and the previous quiet lull inside jake’s mind turns into an annoyed hum.
the older fights the urge to roll his eyes with a grit of his teeth, and not wanting the flames of his irritation to get fueled, he turns to set his eyes on professor jeon instead of the hot-headed slytherin next to him.
jake watches apprehensively as the youngest member of the hogwarts faculty raises a brow, amused eyes tinkling as he smiles at sunghoon.
“oh? and this is your decision to make, mr. park?”
sunghoon’s dimple comes out as he purses his lips in annoyance. “i’m sure you know that he and i can barely breathe in each other’s direction without wanting to hex the other’s head off, professor.” he says evenly, but jake eyes the clenching of his jaw.
what a waste of a pretty face.
professor jeon continues to stare at him with smiling eyes, chuckling. “oh yes, yes, i am well aware of your infamy amongst the students and faculty. funnily enough, its the reason why i had you both paired up!” he chirps, face handsome and saccharine.
wincing, jake sighs. “respectfully and… i’m terribly sorry, professor, but i don’t think its a very smart idea to put he and i in a situation like this either. i’m sure we can switch with two other people?” he tries, and the teacher eyes him for a moment before getting up from his seat. he moves to stand in front of them and leans against his desk with both hands in his pockets.
“you remind me quite a lot of two students i used to know.” he says, waves of his dark hair falling into his face. both students pinken a little; professor jeon wasn’t popular amongst the students for no reason.
“they squabbled the same way, behaved the same away around each other.” he continues, and sunghoon sighs impatiently which he only chuckles at. jake sends a sharp look the slytherin’s way, starting to get annoyed at the taller’s pissy attitude.
the teacher leans forward and his cheshire-cat smile only seems to get wider. there is a slight dimple on the left of his cheek, and jake can’t help but to stare. “do you know what happened to them after hogwarts?”
the students shake their heads slowly. professor jeon laughs, winking.
“they got married!” he says happily.
sunghoon sputters, face flushing as jake stands unmoving with wide eyes and pink cheeks. the door opens behind them as professor park steps in, flipping through the pages of a pocket book and accidentally bumping into one of the student’s desk. sunghoon straightens and his eyes go wide with recognition.
professor jeon’s reaction is immediate, walking over to him and reprimanding him for not paying attention to his surroundings in a soft, fond voice.
“my love, what else must i say for you to not forget. presence of mind.” he tsks. professor park giggles a sheepish lilting laugh, closing his book to press a kiss onto professor jeon’s cheek.
jake sighs. professor jeon wasn’t popular amongst the students for no reason, but it definitely wasn’t because he was available.
no, he was married to one park jimin, Defense Against the Dark Arts professor with the most beautiful eye-smile that had the wizarding world falling at his feet.
next to him, sunghoon crosses his arms in front of him with a huff. “preposterous. this nonsense is gonna get me late for potions.”
scoffing, jake turns to smirk at him. “whats the matter with skipping a little bit of class, park? scared your daddy’s gonna find out?” he singsongs, laughing as he ducks away from sunghoon’s arm coming to hit his shoulder.
“alright, enough.” professor jeon says sternly, pointing a finger at them. somehow his tone remains gentle even though his eyes have sharpened and the two students are now stood frozen in shock. professor park smiles serenely, seemingly only having noticed the two other occupants of the room and crosses his arms as he leans a hip on a desk.
“this will be the last i see of your hostility towards each other. you two are to work on this activity together until the end of the year and i will not hear any objections. i expect your full cooperation all throughout the duration of this assignment and mutual understanding by the end of the final semester. now, greet your professor before i dismiss the both of you.” professor jeon finishes calmly, gesturing to his husband.
sunghoon and jake bow sheepishly and echo mirroring greetings to professor park and he giggles, waving a dainty hand littered with silver rings. on his left hand, a particularly shiny one stands out around the girth of his ring finger.
“afternoon, boys! i’m sorry he’s giving you a bit of a hard time, i certainly know how it feels.” a playful nudge to his arm. “you’ll come to like this arrangement, i’m absolutely positive. in no time you’ll be able to stay in the same room and not blow it up in a death match. cheer up!” he says, eyes turning into happy crescents as he grins.
internally, jake sighs.
he only hoped he and sunghoon wouldn’t have already killed each other yet to get to that point by the time year-end came.

“you’re avoiding the question.”
irked, sunghoon huffs before sending a sharp look riki’s way. the younger brings his hands up and smiles boyishly, chuckling. “hey, we both know its true. answer the question, hyung.”
“i don’t particularly dislike sim. in fact, i don’t feel anything for him, at all.” the older snaps, feeling even more annoyed when riki’s grin only grows. sunghoon had always been a shit liar. “now stop bothering me. i’m trying to finish my meal.”
“jake really isn’t that terrible. you know what i think?” riki says, pausing to wait for sunghoon to begrudgingly shake his head. “i think that you’re mean to him because you hate the fact that he was actually really nice to you in the beginning. you know, before you decided to treat him like you were malfoy and he, potter.”
“ugh, please.” the older scoffs, moving his food around on the plate in front of him. “he’s no saint. have you forgotten what he did to me in the last game?”
laughing incredulously, riki shakes his head and gives him an exasperated look. “oh, jeez, not this again… he was trying to help you. it was a bug, not the snitch, and you would’ve gone crashing down to the floor of the pitch had he not pushed you away. come on, you’re making excuses at this point,” he says, and gives the older a side glance before look down at his food.
“stop trying to push people that want to care about you away.”
“you’re a baby. you have no idea what you’re talking about.” sunghoon says dismissively, reaching over to pinch the younger’s cheek and giggling as he whines at the pain. sunghoon ignores the fact that everything riki had just said rung painfully true, as well as the stinging in his heart.
“let go of my boyfriend, park sunghoon,” sunoo says as he walks towards them, plopping down next to riki and giving him a peck on the cheek. right where sunghoon’s fingers had reddened the soft skin. the youngest smiles, dopey, as he wraps an arm around sunoo’s waist to pull him closer.
“you tell your idiot boyfriend to quit making conspiracy theories about people.” sunghoon counters.
sunoo giggles, quietly pulling a handheld mirror from his satchel - how he’s able to fit that in his bag and carry it with him everywhere was still a mystery - and studying his face in it before abruptly turning it over to sunghoon.
the older blinks at him slowly.
“look in here, hyung, and see the result of your denial. it’s really quite a pitiful sight.” he says solemnly.
sunghoon lunges at him and sunoo shrieks. riki watches quietly, grabbing a chicken drumstick off of the plate in front of him in one hand and a forkful of mashed potatoes in the other.
“do you take it back?”
“never! you’re horrible, and you’re being mean to jake-hyung for no reason!”
“take it back, right now!”
“face it! jake-hyung is very attractive, very athletic, very smart,” sunoo grins, wiggling his eyebrows, caught in sunghoon’s headlock and yet still so boldly, infuriatingly annoying.
“very much your type!” he finishes, giggling.
sunghoon pinches his cheek hard, and listens to him cry out for a bit before sticking his tongue out at the younger and sitting back down. “sod off! insufferable rodent….”
the oldest finally lets a smile grace his face, rolling his eyes at sunoo’s indignant squawk before resuming to his food.
“it doesn’t matter anyway. it would never work.” he mumbles.
“and there it is.” niki declares around a mouth full of potato, clapping his hands. he whispers, softly at first, then fiercely; “acceptance….. acknowledgement.”
sunoo hits him, gentle, and the youngest playfully places a finger over his lips in a show of keeping quiet.
he turns back to the eldest and shrugs. “you could always be the bigger person and take the initiative to stop with all the petty fight-flirting. the glaring... the eye-fucking... the getting all up in your face whilst i throw you against the wall…. its very intense, the sexual tension between you two.”
“borderline suffocating if you ask me,” riki snickers under his breath.
eyes wide open, sunghoon shushes the younger fiercely with fiery red cheeks. “are you mad? don’t say such things so carelessly loud in places like this!” he hisses.
sunoo stares back at him with an exasperated expression. “simmer down. nobody cares. everybody knows you hate each other.”
“j-jaeyun has absolutely not been throwing me against walls,” sunghoon whisper-yells.
riki snorts. “we’ve been witness to it countless times.”
“yeah, hyung… its honestly kind of embarrassing.”
“alright, i’m done with this conversation if you both are just gonna gang up on me.”
“hold on now, not while i’m not here to see!” a cheerful voice sounds, and sunghoon jumps.
he doesn’t dare look up to see who it is and observes riki and sunoo’s faces. they have shit-eating grins on again and sunghoon curses internally.
“not even gonna look at me, park?”
snapping his head up, sunghoon musters up the sharpest look he can offer and feels his blood boil when jake’s smile only gets wider. why the hell was he always smiling? nothing to bloody smile about on this godforsaken planet.
“what do you want.” sunghoon spits.
jake plops down beside him and sits close, the younger getting winded at the proximity. sunghoon scoots back with an incredulous huff.
“we’ve gotta meet up to work, don’t we?” jake says, but sunghoon doesn’t care for what he’s saying. he finds he doesn’t care for anything at the moment, not when he can’t quite take his eyes off of his lips. they were plump and shiny today, sunghoon notes.
“if you want a kiss i’ll give it to you.” jake says laughingly, even though he too, had been not so subtly eyeing sunghoon’s as well.
flushing a deep red, sunghoon shoves him hard and he falls over onto the floor with a yelp. the slytherin turns back to his food.
“i’ll owl you! n-now get away from me!”
despite his pain, jake groans before he laughs loudly and gets to his feet with ease. he fixes his robes and smiles down at sunghoon angrily munching on a forkful of pasta.
he pats his head and tells him with a soft voice, “alright, feisty. i’ll be waiting for it. oh, and i really liked the lavender last time.” and he leaves.
sunoo and riki’s jaw are on the floor.
“y-you,” riki starts.
“you write to each other?” sunoo hisses. “and you spray your perfume on the paper? you whore!”
sunghoon’s face is now the same color as the sauce on his spaghetti. he swallows a forkful and chews silently.
riki and sunoo look to each other before screaming.
