Shot Through the Heart

Summary:

Notes:

Day 7: Outside POV

Work Text:

Fergus MacLeod hadn’t made it to the top of the MacLeod crime family by being careless.

So when he heard word of an assassination attempt, he investigated immediately. And unfortunately, the investigation led back to his own mother.

He was going to have to have her killed.

It was a shame, really. No one else in the whole organization was as ruthless and cunning as dear old mum. But she needed to be dealt with to send a message to anyone else who even dared think of going against him.

The only problem was he had no idea who she had hired. If he had, it would have been a simple matter of doubling whatever her asking price to off her instead. And from what he had been told, she didn’t even know the name of the hit man. It was all completely anonymous.

Which meant likely, the hitman didn’t know he was contracted by Rowena MacLeod herself and the hit wouldn’t be stopped by her death.

The only thing he could do was hire an assassin of his own and have him kill her man first.

The agency recommended one of their best assassins, a man called Castiel. An in-person meeting was arranged at one of the smaller MacLeod holdings so he and his team would know the assasin’s face in the event things went belly-up. He wouldn’t make his mother’s mistake.

At the arranged meeting time, a man was shown into his office by his chief of security.

The man squinted at him. “Fergus MacLeod, I assume?”

“No, no, call me Crowley. Fergus is a terrible name for business.”

“As you wish. You may call me Castiel.”

Castiel looked very ordinary at first glance. He sported a starched white shirt and tie under a beige trench coat. He could be Crowley’s tax accountant, if Crowley actually paid taxes. But there was something hard and cold in his eyes. He’d killed before and it meant nothing for him to do it again. The perfect man for the job.

“Have a seat, Castiel. Let’s talk business.”

“Your security was very thorough,” Castiel said with a scowl. “They confiscated my favorite gun.”

“Can’t be too careful,” Crowley said. “For all they know, you could be the assassin trying to kill me.”

Castiel inclined his head. “True. It would make for a very easy job. Not like the complicated mess I’m stepping into.” He sighed deeply. “It’s good to know your security is somewhat competent. I’m not a bodyguard and I’d hate for you to get killed before I get paid.”

“As would I,” Crowley said. “Now, about that payment.”

“Yes, as I mentioned in our initial correspondence, this hit will be very expensive because you’re asking me to put in a lot of work and I can’t take on any other jobs in the meantime.”

There too many zeroes on the end of Castiel’s offer for Crowley’s liking, but he supposed it was a small price to pay for his life.

“Yes, very well. And only a quarter paid up front because I want you to have incentive to keep me alive.”

“I suppose that’s acceptable, under the circumstances,” Castiel said. “We are in agreement, then?”

“We are.” Crowley was all too happy to draw up the contract and hand over the initial payment. With any luck, this unpleasant business would soon be behind him and he could return to running his empire.

Castiel pocketed the money and was on his way back out of the office when one of Crowley’s windows imploded and glass rained down everywhere.

“Get down!” Castiel shouted. He pushed Crowley behind his desk and pulled out a pistol security had somehow missed.

The man who stepped through the remnants of the window was none other than Dean Winchester. Bloody hell. Crowley should have known better when the agency declared him unavailable. Crowley had used his services multiple times. He may have looked like a bloody lumberjack, but he got the job done.

“Winchester,” Castiel growled.

“Novak,” Dean shot back. “This is my target, so get out of my way.”

“And you’re my target,” Castiel said, cocking his gun.

Dean’s first shot very narrowly missed Crowley, shattering a very expensive vase. Castiel returned fire, but Dean was already running down the hallway so there were nothing but bullet holes riddled in Crowley’s wall for his trouble.

“Do you two numbskulls have to have a Wild West shootout in my mansion?” Crowley shouted.

“Go!” Castiel ordered. “Get somewhere safe. I’ll contact you later.”

Castiel was probably right and this was the time for Crowley to make his escape, but something made him linger and listen. He needed to know who won the battle.

From the sounds of it, the battle had made its way into the bathroom. He could definitely hear water running. If someone shot holes in his pipes, he was going to be very cross.

“Cas,” Dean whined. Something clattered to the floor. “No, stop. We-we can’t. This is so unprofessional. We’re supposed to be working.”

“We are working,” Castiel growled. “This is a battle of wits and I’m going to fuck your brains out.”

The two assassins were lovers? Well, that was certainly interesting information. Crowley could definitely make use of that later.

“Aw, babe, can’t this wait until after our jobs are done? Bathroom sex isn’t as awesome as it’s cracked up to be.”

“I’m contracted to kill you, you idiot.”

Dean huffed. “What do you want me to do about that?”

“Not kill my client.”

“Fuck you, Cas. I’m under contract. If I don’t off the rich S.O.B. I don’t get paid. And I got my reputation to think of. Word gets out that I’ve gotten soft and I’ll never land another job.”

“You will not kill my client,” Castiel repeated firmly. “I kill your client and you no longer have a contract. Therefore, I no longer have to kill you. You’re an excellent lover and I’d hate to kill you, but I will if I have to.”

“Or I kill your client and you no longer have a contract. Same shit.”

“Ah, but my contract pays infinitely better. We could split the money and take a very nice vacation someplace with warm sand and clear water. Just think about that, Dean.”

“That’s not fair,” Dean whined. “How am I supposed to do any thinking when you’ve got your hands on my dick?”

Castiel sighed. “Fine. Are you paying attention now?”

“What the fuck, Cas? I didn’t say you could stop.”

“You just told me that you lose all ability to focus after a little sexual stimulation.”

“It sounds really insulting when you put it like that.”

“But all too true. Now, Dean, do we have a deal?”

Dean groaned. “How do you even know he’s going to go for this?”

“If he doesn’t, I merely have to step aside and let you complete your job. But I doubt he will need much convincing. He wants his mother dead anyway. it should be a simple matter to amend the contract.”

“You’ve thought of everything, haven’t you?”

“That’s because I don’t do all my thinking with my dick. But it’s a very attractive dick, so I understand.”

Ugh, no. It actually sounded like they were going to start fucking in his bathroom.

Crowley quietly made his way to the kitchen and prepared a cup of tea while he waited for them to finish. It was definitely an odd turn of events, but he just might take Castiel up on his offer and spare Dean’s life.

After all, it was always good to have someone in his debt. He never knew when Dean’s services might come in handy.
