Link finds himself wandering through a strange and ancient temple, laden with technologies beyond even the Sheikah made artifacts he was familiar with. The architecture was notably different as well, instead of smooth stone laced with intricate swirls and constellation designs in those ethereal blue and orange hues, this place was made from large pieces of metal and glass bolted together and transporting a strange glowing red substance that arced and pulsed violently. It reminded him of malice, in that it seemed to have a will of its own, yet this was somehow even more pure in its anger and hatred than Gannon’s essence had ever been. It deeply unnerved him, and he did his best to ignore its sickly cries as he made his way through the unnatural facility. What few windows there were showed him a snow swept landscape that seemed to stretch for miles in all directions. He certainly wasn’t in Hyrule anymore.
He made his way through winding corridors and past impossibly deep chasms, fighting a few lone monsters as he came across them. They didn’t look or behave anything like the beasts he was accustomed to, these were far more aggressive and vicious in their tactics, even attacking each other if one got in another’s way. They were more humanoid in their proportions, but with grotesque scales, claws, and hurled intense fireballs that had broken all his stored shields. Still, most every one had fallen in a single strike of the Master Sword. It glowed its pale aura that it always had since awakening its true power, yet it still seemed to glow brighter than even then. Was this new malice awakening a greater strength still dormant within? Between all the combat, exploration and wandering thoughts, the only reason he wasn’t lost yet was the Sheikah Slate’s automatic mapping functions.
He eventually came upon a lone room at the end of a long and empty corridor. The door is unguarded, unremarkable, and unlocked. He gently opened one of the double doors, seeing nothing in the room that would try to kill him if he entered. With a quick glance to the hall behind him, he slipped inside and shut the door again. Now inside and alone, he took a longer moment to take in the room he’d found himself in. The chamber was oval shaped and had a high domed ceiling, outfitted with a large chandelier of burning red lights. At the far end, there was a single pedestal, atop which a strange object hovered. Sensing no danger, he walked straight to it, passing under the elaborate light source.
Examining the object gave him no clue of its origin or function. It had a wooden handle at what appeared to be the back of the object, attached to a long metal body with an odd mechanism at the top joining the pieces. The front had two holes that seemed to run down the length of the metal piece, not too dissimilar to a cannon. Strangest of all however, was the large and viscous pair of spikes mounted under the front, attached to a length of coiled chain.
Something flashed in the depths of his memories, no, memories not his own. Had a previous hero used a similar implement? He took the device, the levitation deactivating as soon as he grasped it, feeling its full weight in his hand. The slate at his hip beeped with the same sound it used when he picked up a new weapon, giving away its use. Swapping the item to his left hand, he grabbed the slate with his right to see what it could tell him about the new tool.
Weapon: Super Shotgun (SSG)
Type: Firearm
Modification: Meathook
Ammo Type: Shells
This twin barreled firearm launches many metal fragments at high velocity. Deals maximum damage at close range. Favored weapon of a legendary ancient warrior.
‘Shotgun? Meathook? What did any of that mean?’ He pondered as he inspected the weapon. ‘And who exactly would wield something with an unwieldy curved handle like this?’ He saw a pair of small curved levers inside some sort of finger guard. Out of curiosity, he pulled the front one.
BANG
A sudden kickback from the weapon sent his whole body reeling from the shock. A volley of shrapnel erupted from the front, unintentionally aimed straight at the chandelier, spreading a shower of glass and metal across the room. Everything darkened for a moment, before the burning malice it unleashed swirled together at the far end of the chamber. It coalesced to form a new, stronger monster.
The beast stood fifteen feet tall upon goatlike legs. Its skin was covered with rippling musculature and crimson skin. Its long and sharp claws tipped arms longer than his sword and thicker than his torso. Its bared a mouthful of bestial fangs beneath its glowing orange eyes, flanked by blackened horns that curved from the top of its head to the end of its jaw. It locked its gaze onto him, before unleashing an earth quaking roar.
This was bad. Link was alone, trapped, and staring down the strongest foe he’d ever seen. Thinking quick, he stored the slate and drew the Master Sword, it's brilliant sheen calming his nerves and seeming to give his opponent a moment of hesitation. It only lasted a moment though. The beast channeled some infernal magic into its hands, glowing with an uncanny green. It hurled the orb with deadly aim, and he slashed at it to send it right back. The beast knocked the ball aside, and without pause, began to charge right at him. Without a shield he couldn’t stop its assault, and its reactions could probably catch him out of a dodge. Out of options, he raised the shotgun to point at his foe and pulled the trigger.
Click
Nothing happened. The beast continued forwards. He panicked. He tried the second trigger.
Chnn-Shhnk
The hook launched forwards and embedded itself into the beast’s chest. It was caught off guard, and halted its advance. Then, the chain retracted, pulling Link straight to the monster. HIs shock was quickly overcome with dread, as the beast raised its right arm, green energy surging at its will. He thought quickly, and twisted his body in anticipation. The beast brought its arm down as he flipped forwards and-
SSSHHHHHIIIINNNNNGG
-Cut the beast in twain, through hand, arm, and clean through to its opposite hip. He landed nimbly as the newly formed corpse came crashing down behind him. He took a moment to steady himself as the beast burned itself to ash. He looked down at the foriegn weapon in his hand, as a big stupid grin plastered itself on his face and a thought entered his head.
‘Oh hell yeah.’
He examined it again, now noticing the latch joining the body and handle. A quick flick and the barrels swung forwards, sending two red cylinders out the backside. Looking similar to something he’d picked up earlier, he scrolled through the slate’s menus. A few taps later, and two more appeared in his hand. He slid one into each chamber and flipped the barrels back into place.
He grinned to himself once more, before heading towards the door, satisfied at the new addition to his arsenal. He walked down the hallways with a newfound swagger in his step, eagerly awaiting whatever challenge would present itself next.
