Chapter Text
01
Her glossy tinted lips stared back at her, raising her hand to touch up her last bit of makeup. Eunji was gorgeous , not like she needed much to make her stand out. But it wasn’t the good looks you admired about your friend, it was the oozing charisma she carried everywhere. Truly, you thought even if she wasn’t blessed with good looks, she’d still have every guy at her feet. Or anyone for that matter. It was just the aura she possessed. She pulled away from small mirror she had in her hand, raising an eyebrow towards you.
“You’re gonna love him.” She promised, and you shook your head. Eunji had said that about each one of her past boyfriends, but still each one didn’t manage to impress you much. For such a pretty girl, your friend seemed to love complete bums. A shame really.
“As long as you like him..” You trailed off, uncertainty clear in your tone. You two both sat at the corner of a small cafe that was located near your apartment complex, La Belle. The place was slow today, oddly enough but the silence was comforting enough for the both of you. You figured that was soon about to change since you weren’t the type to look forward to meeting strangers.
“Y/n I’m serious, I really like him. He’s perfect in every way.” Eunji insisted, leaning forward against the small table in between you two. “ Plus, he’s really hot.”
You rolled your eyes, smiling at your friend’s descriptions. As far as you knew, the guy came from a pretty wealthy background which already meant he wasn’t like the usual guys she went for. He was a bit older too, Eunji never specified his job , just that he worked in the same company as his father. You figured it must of been a family business.
“But like, he’s not conceited or anything. He’s the sweetest, and good in bed.” She whispered the last part and you widened your eyes a bit before letting out a laugh.
“Please shut up , we are in public.” You begged, hoping the waiter behind you didn’t just catch an earful of that.
“I think he’s here!” Eunji just about squealed like a school girl, focusing her eyes behind you and you felt your nerves start to kick in. Why were you nervous? You didn’t even bother looking behind and kept your eyes glued on your friend.
“Don’t be awkward.” She warned, as if you weren’t already feeling like you were about to vomit on the table. She knew you weren’t a people person per say and you nearly jumped when you heard deep voice suddenly behind you.
“Sorry I’m late. I didn’t know traffic would be that bad.” You turned your head, seeing his tall frame tower over you both. The guy wore a simple black t-shirt under his flannel followed by dark jeans. His dark hair settled a bit down his ears, tickling his lower neck. His big doe eyes scanned over your friend and then slowly over you, lingering on your face. He indeed didn’t look much older than you both, blessed with a baby face.
Well, your friend had been right about the handsome part.
“It’s okay, we haven’t ordered anything yet.” Your friend gushed, signaling him to take a seat next to her. He gave her swift kiss on the cheek before sitting down and you watched your friend’s face heat up, unable to hide her smile. They were cute together, you thought.
“Babe, this is y/n.” Your friend introduced and you gave him a nervous smile, trying to stop your leg from bouncing anxiously under the table. His gaze hadn’t left yours, dark eyes scanning over you once again.
“Nice to meet you, y/n. I’m Jungkook.” He flashed you a toothy grin, his smile gave even more of a boyish look.
“Nice to meet you..” You replied softly breaking your gaze almost immediately as your fingers played with the ends of your skirt in an attempt to keep yourself a bit more relaxed. He eyed you before glancing back at Eunji.
“Shy one, huh?” He commented, a teasing grin on his lips. Your friend let out a laugh and nodded.
“Y/n is always like this with strangers, she’ll warm up to you.” You mentally cursed at yourself, Eunji had warned you to not make things awkward but it seems like you were already failing horribly.
“Um, should I go order for us? “ You spoke up, glancing towards the register ahead of you, realizing none of you had gotten any drinks yet. It was a quick escape from the situation.
“No, I’ll go! Maybe try getting to know Jungkook a little more.” Eunji offered, raising a an eyebrow at you.The last thing you wanted was to be left alone with a stranger and make room for more awkward conversation but you kept your mouth shut.
“Just a caramel latte, right?” Your friend asked , you nodded as she turned to face Jungkook.
“I’ll just have an Americano.” He replied, Eunji nodded and took off walking towards the front of the cafe. You sat in silence, eyes darting around anywhere but the guy who sat across from you. You felt his heavy gaze on you but you tried your best to focus your attention on your friend that walked ahead. You really were terrible at this.
“Eunji told me you both study at the same college, what’s your major?” Jungkook broke the silence, you watched as his long slender fingers tapped against the table. You noted the several rings on his fingers, his sleeves were raised up to his elbows and tattoos decorated both his arms.
“Oh, uh, psychology.” You said unable to keep the shake from your voice, hand coming up to your mouth as you bit your nails. A horrible nervous habit you couldn’t seem to break.
He probably found it ironic that your major was Psychology and you seemed to be on the verge of having a mental breakdown at the moment. Eunji always pointed that out to you and you couldn’t help but agree.
“Interesting. You’re roommates, right? “ He asked, seemingly trying to hide a smirk at your fidgety behavior.
“Mhm.” You simply replied, glancing around again to see your friend finally ordering at the register and you prayed for her to hurry it up.
“You know, I don’t think coffee will help with your nerves, darling.” His lips quirked up, the nickname rolling off his lips a bit too naturally. You ignored it , telling yourself it wasn’t a big deal. A part of had hoped he hadn’t noticed how anxious you were getting but you supposed you did a rather poor job to hide it.
“I guess you’re right.” You swallowed, mouth already dry. “ Eunji told me you work in a company?”
“My father’s company. Accounting.” He clarified , you had been right about the family business. You were a bit shocked he was willing to hang out with a bunch of broke college students considering his status but you knew your friend was a catch, it would be impossible not to fall for her.
“Do you-“ Jungkook was cut off by your friends sudden voice.
“They didn’t have caramel lattes so I got you vanilla.” You looked up at Eunji as she set the coffees down on the table. A look of disappointment flashed across Jungkook’s features, so subtle that you had wondered if it had ever really been there or if it was just your overactive mind seeing things.
“Did you guys chat a bit while I was gone?” Your friend questioned, sending you a look. You took the latte, taking a quick sip of it.
“I managed to get some things out of her.” Jungkook gave your friend a tight smile as she giggled in return. You shifted your eyes down to the table and hoped the latte running down your throat would soothe the strange feeling that had settled in your stomach.
—
You sat on the kitchen counter, the TV playing at low volume in the background. Your fork dug into the pasta, eagerly shoving it into your mouth. The smell of burnt food still hung in the air, you had finally managed to shut of the fire alarm that was set off just a few moments ago by your friend’s unfortunate cooking. You couldn’t help but feel bad at her failed attempt on cooking pasta since you were the one who suggested it. You thought it was an easy enough dish to cook. How wrong you had been.
“Well, I’m glad we practiced before I cooked this for Jungkook and made a complete fool of myself.” Eunji sighed, moving some of it around in her plate. A pout on her pretty features.
“Honestly, I think the bitter taste adds a bit of flavor.” You said in between chews, you blamed it on the fact that you weren’t picky with food. Also, on the fact that you were starving.
“Shut up.” She rolled her eyes, shaking her head as she let the fork drop on the plate.
“Don’t worry, I doubt your boyfriend is with you because of your amazing cooking skills.” You reasoned as she laughed.
“Isn’t he amazing?” She asked, a glow in her eyes. She definitely seemed head over heels for someone she had been seeing for just 3 months but then again, Eunji was the type to catch feelings fast.
“He seems nice.” You nodded, and it was true you supposed. From what you have seen of him, Jungkook did seem like the ideal boyfriend for her. Good looking, successful and polite. What more could your friend ask for? You heart felt heavy in your chest as you stared at her, she looked so happy. It almost brought a bitter feeling but you pushed the ugly emotion down, forcing it to disappear.
“Be honest, you do like him right?” She stared at you, her eyes searching your own for any doubt. There wasn’t any, and even if there was , you wouldn’t allow it to ever showcase.
“I do, I think you guys make a good couple. He’s a lot better than the other guys you have kept around.” Her ex boyfriends didn’t compare to Jungkook, and you know she had to have known that. It was no wonder she had fallen so fast for him. Eunji couldn’t help the shock that went over her face at your words.
“What?” You asked, staring blankly at her.
“You’ve never approved of any of my boyfriends until now so that means you really must like him.” She raised an eyebrow, a knowing smirk forming on her full lips. You shook your head , forcing your eyes to leave her mouth and stare back at your plate of food.
“Your standards have just been too low in the past.” You took another bite of the bitter pasta, forcing yourself to swallow it down.
“He likes you too by the way.” She said in a bragging tone and you eyed her. “He said your shyness was pretty cute, I think you left a good impression on him.”
You highly doubted that.
“I guess I just know how to make a bold first impression.”
“Right,” Your friend chuckled. “How about we find you a date?”
You nearly choked at her words, coughing up a bit of the food.
“I’m good, thanks.” You waved her off with your hand, dreading the conversation that was about to occur. You hated when she brought up dating knowing how you felt about it.
“Come on! You’ve never had a proper boyfriend before, don’t you think it’s time to put yourself out there?” She explained , eyes widening in frustration. “ I mean , you don’t even have to date them. Just get laid.”
“Eunji, shut up.” You groaned, already feeling a sense of embarrassment creep up within you. You didn’t exactly enjoy her constantly bringing up your lack of experience in the dating department, especially because you knew it didn’t come from a malicious place. It made you feel even more frustrated. Your anxiety had kept you a safe distance away from people in general, especially from guys. You couldn’t remember the last time you had even talked to someone you had the slightest interest in, it must have been way back in high school before your condition had gotten as bad as it was now. You couldn’t even begin to imagine trying to initiate a conversation with someone you liked, let alone a whole relationship.
“I know you struggle with…your situation but you can’t let your fears stop you from experiencing these things entirely.” Eunji stated as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. If only she knew the other reason you didn’t let yourself seek a lover.
“Anyways, I was thinking about applying at the cafe we went to.” You announced, attempting to steer the conversation away from your non-existent love life.
“Really?” She beamed, and you almost face palmed at the realization of what she was implying.
“Perfect opportunity to meet new people.” She whispered, smirking down at her sad excuse of a meal.
“I’m not sure if I can yet, it’s a cashier job and..”you trailed off, not even needing to elaborate why you were so concerned. You promised yourself you would try to get out of your comfort zone , besides you knew you needed the money to help pay rent. You couldn’t keep relying on your parents sending you money , it was time to take some responsibility for yourself now that you weren’t living with them.
“I think you should try, remember don’t let your fears control your life. Isn’t that in your psychology notes?” You glared at her before hopping off your seat. You had officially had enough of her for the night. You heard her bright laugh behind you as disappeared into your room , your heart never failing to miss a beat at the sound.
—-
You felt sick to your stomach, palms scrunching up in frustration. It had happen again and you hated every second of it. You stood outside the cafe with what you assumed was a pathetic look on your face, it didn’t help that it had started to rain right as you came stumbling out. You took a deep breath, trying to hold yourself together. Your attempts at getting this job had completely and utterly failed. The moment you showed up for the interview, you felt a wave of panic take over your body. Of course, this only brought a sense of nausea over you too, you couldn’t even focus on the questions the nice lady was asking you. You stumbled over every word, only about 5 minutes and you had to excuse yourself, repeatedly apologizing as you rushed out the place.
“Excuse me,” Someone snapped and you looked up, realizing you were standing in the middle of the cafe entrance. You quickly stepped aside and let the person walk through. You groaned as you stared up at the grey sky, it didn’t look like it was raining as hard anymore. You needed to go home. You clutched your bag and starting making your way down the familiar narrow streets, your apartment complex wasn’t that long of a walk but the cold wet weather sure made it seem like it.
A loud honk made you nearly fall backwards in fright. You whipped your head around, noticing a black vehicle slowly drive up next to you. You halted in your steps, growing nervous as you watched the passenger window slide down.
“Y/n? Are you okay?” You heard Jungkook’s familiar voice call out, his face coming into your view as you squinted down at him. You felt your body relax a bit at his presence now knowing that it wasn’t a random stranger.
“O-oh, yeah. I’m just walking home.” You replied quickly , stepping closer to his car so he would hear you better due to the loud sound of rain and thunder that surrounded you both.
His eyes examined your state, and you somehow felt naked under his gaze yet again. Something about it always made you want to squirm , no matter how many times you had seen him now. He often came over to the apartment to hang out with Eunji in her room and you had made sure to blast music those times in order to drown out the sound of them. You shuddered at the memory.
“I can give you a ride, you’re soaking wet.” He stated as he took in your expression, frowning at the redness around your eyes.
“It’s okay, really. It’s not that far.” You insisted , wiping your eyes in a hurried manner when you noticed his unmoving stare on you.
“I think it’s better if you let me drive you home, you’re going to get sick.” He said, this time more firmly. A concerned expression taking over his face and you sighed, slowly nodding your head in defeat. You quickly made your way over to the other side of the car, a dark leather seat greeting you as you took in the the fresh car scent mixed in with some type of cologne.
“I’m really sorry, your car is going to get all wet.” You winced at the fact that your clothes were soaking. You pulled the seatbelt over you.
“Don’t worry about that, are you okay?” Jungkook turned to face you, almost seeming annoyed that you were concerned about the car of all things and you were certain he noticed your tear filled eyes from the scene you had gone through earlier.
“Yeah, I just didn’t get a job I applied to. “ You lied smoothly, refusing to give out the humiliating details of what had actually happened. Jungkook didn’t seem content with your response but he drove off, turning down the streets.
“Was it the cafe job?” He asked after a few moments of silence and you side eyed him, not knowing how he could of possibly known that.
“Eunji mentioned it to me,” He clarified and you watched his hand on the wheel tighten a bit.
“U-uh, yeah. It’s no big deal, It’s just been a long day.” You assured him, staring down at your hands. It suddenly felt suffocating inside the car.
“You know it’s okay to not be able to do certain things, you shouldn’t be embarrassed.” He glanced your way, eyes seeming to try and take another look at your face but you turned your head against the window. You wondered how much exactly your friend had told him about you for him to make that comment.
“Eunji sure seems to talk a lot about my business.” You mumbled, angry tears starting to form in your eyes again. This time for a whole other reason, or maybe it was for the same reason. You couldn’t tell at this point, your emotions were getting the best of you.
Jungkook wasn’t stupid , he had seen the way you looked at Eunji. The way your eyes lingered on her for a moment too long, it was the same way his eyes lingered on you. He had wondered how oblivious your friend had been not to notice the obvious interest you took in her. Your little crush on her was cute to him but an inconvenience nonetheless.
“Do you have a boyfriend?” His sudden question took you by surprise , seemingly coming out of nowhere. You shook your head, wiping your eyes again and you tried to sit up straighter.
“Or girlfriend..perhaps?” You froze at his words, noticing the edge that had took over his tone. You stole a glance at him and he raised an eyebrow at you, a knowing look on his handsome features. Your stomach dropped at the realization of what he was implying.
He knew.
“You can’t tell her.” You begged, turning to face him completely. You hadn’t even noticed you had arrived at your apartment complex, his car parked just a few feet away from the entrance. You suddenly felt nauseous again.
“P-please, you can’t tell her. I promise it’s not like that, she loves you and only you.” You stumbled over your words as you tried your best to explain to him, you were completely mortified.
Jungkook watched you silently, enjoying the way you gripped his jacket, your delicate fingers tightening around the materiel. The desperate look in your eyes, it brought a sickening satisfaction to him. He had you right where he wanted you, it had almost been too easy. He brought his hand underneath your chin, tilting your face up at him and you shivered at his cold touch.
“I can keep secrets, baby.” He whispered, leaning down to your face. His eyes trailing over your lips as his fingers brushed your tear stained cheeks. You were so beautiful.
“As long as you keep ours.” His eyes bore into yours and you furrowed your eyebrows in confusion as he brought your lips to his, the kiss was gentle but the grip he had on your chin was anything but. It was clear he was holding back and you were too much in a shock state to even react, you felt his other hands on your upper thigh, the dress you wore allowing him full access to your exposed skin.
Your heart beat so rapidly in your chest that you could hear it in your ears, his mouth still worked against yours, the kiss growing more hungry by the second. You couldn’t believe you were allowing this.
“You’re so pretty, baby. You know that?” He grinned down at you as soon as he pulled away from you and you tried to catch you breath, the world seemed to be spinning.
What the fuck was happening?
“What’s wrong baby?” He asked, seemingly innocently as if he just didn’t make out with his girlfriend’s best friend.
“N-no. We can’t do this, you can’t do this to her.” You pulled away from his grip, shoving his hand away from your body. You felt the guilt instantly start to eat at you, you couldn’t believe what had just happened. This couldn’t be happening, you knew Eunji would never forgive you.
“I think,” Jungkook began, his eyes dark and you noticed the tightness in his jaw. “ we are going to do whatever I want if you value your friendship at all.”
The look he was giving you was enough to make you want to run out of the car but you forced yourself in place, he looked livid. None of it made sense, why would Jungkook do this? You were sure he cared for your friend, was he upset about your feelings for her? But that didn’t make any sense, he wouldn’t of done what he just did if he wanted you gone. If anything, he didn’t seem to express any concerns over your feelings for her. But that only left you with the last reason and you were sure as hell it couldn’t be that. Why would Jungkook want anything to do with you when he had Eunji? I mean, realistically she was the far more attractive one out of you two, it didn’t make any sense. None of it made sense.
“Why? Why are you doing this?” He tilted his head at your question, almost seeming to try and hold in a laugh.
“How naive are you, baby?” He tone was gentle but it was almost as if he was mocking you. As if he was speaking to a child and you felt your blood boil.
“I’m not doing this.” You bit out angrily and you watched his expression drop, the dark look returning to his ethereal features. It was unsettling how such a innocent looking features could hold such a deadly expression on them, it seemed so out of place. It resembled nothing of the sweet charming guy you met at the cafe that first day, you had no idea where he had gone.
“No?” He clicked his tongue, glaring down at you and you watched pull out his phone, your eyes widening as he typed in the passcode , too long for you to even register in your head and his screen unlocked. “ I wonder what Eunji would think of her best friend trying to make out with her boyfriend?”
“She wouldn’t believe you!” You snapped, not knowing where you got the sudden courage to yell at him but you instantly regretted it once he sent you daggers your way. His jaw tightening at your sudden outburst. Then, a sickening smirk glossed over his lips.
“Wouldn’t she? “ He questioned, his long fingers scrolling down his phone screen and you despised the way he instantly made you doubt your own words. Would she believe him?
“Would she believe the friend that has been envious of her for years tried to hook up with her boyfriend out of jealousy? An attempt to sabotage her relationship because she can’t fulfill her own love life? “ You frowned, shaking your head. That wasn’t at all the case, you weren’t jealous of her for gods sake. If anything you had been jealous of him.
“She wouldn’t ev-“
“Or,” He cut you off, his harsh gaze silencing you. “ would she believe that her best friend has been secretly in love with her for years and is trying to sabotage all her relationships just so she can have her to herself?”
You swallowed, you were sure you were seconds away from vomiting all over this car.
“Don’t play games with me, baby.” He sneered at you, the gentle tone he spoke with just minutes ago completely gone. This was a clear warning. “I could make her despise you completely.”
“Or disappear completely..” He added and you felt your heart stop at his words, your eyes widening at him. He held your gaze, not blinking. He wasn’t bluffing at all.
“You don’t want that, do you?” He asked, eyes scanning your face as tears threatened to fall again. You were completely fucked. You shook your head , your body felt like it was shaking on its own. He smiled at your compliance.
“Good girl. “ You felt his fingers wipe away your tears and you tried your hardest not to flinch away from him.
“See? If you keep being this good, we aren’t going to have any problems.” He assured you, his tone soft once again. Your head was starting to spin at how unpredictable this man’s moods were. He was completely insane. You felt disgusted at his touch, not understand how you got into this situation. Why was this happening to you? This was truly the worst day.
“Now, look who’s coming our way.” Jungkook announced in almost a bored tone and you felt his hands leave your face, you looked up following his gaze and you held your breath as you saw a familiar figure walking towards you both.
Eunji.
You squinted your eyes and turned to face Jungkook, your eyes landing down on his phone that was still in his hand. The bright screen stared back at you as you read the text.
To Eunji: I’m outside, come out.
“Remember, baby.” Jungkook warned in a low whisper, turning off his engine as Eunji walked closer and closer to the car. You felt as if you were about to pass out. You took a deep breath and opened the car door just as Eunji stopped right beside you.
“Y/n?” She asked in confusion, her gaze moving from yours to her boyfriend that sat next to you. She looked utterly confused as she took in your wet clothes, she held onto the door and opened it wider.
Now you were actually about to vomit.
“What’s going on?”
