Chapter Text
Since the times of man they have been scared of what they didn't understand. Monsters who stalked through the darkest of nights and watched them waiting. Thinking of them to be fairytales as they slowly overtook society and slowly reshaping it. In Piltover vampires reigned and fed off the undercity of Zaun. Children learned to avoid topsiders and never look them in the eyes for they would take you away at night. In truth vampires could tell one of their own with just a glance and parents feared having their children taken from them ripped away to never be seen again. The vampires of Piltover were many things and kidnappers of children was one of those things, but they were a dying breed.
Unable to procreate well, being murdered by the humans they fed off and being more at risk of mutations or deadly illness. Being forced to procreate with humans to continue their generations most of the people in zaun had some sort of recessive vampire gene within their genetics and making it a risk to have a child. Afterall at least 25% chance that they would be born a vampire and the ranking depended on their history or what happened in their family history. Maybe even the hatred the taken child had when it came towards their new families and would help the zaunites kill them slowly raising up. Killing one or two here or there leading to hundreds of their own being murderer as well. As they were creatures of magic and power. They could break a normal human in half or do it from afar. That's what it meant to be a vampire, power, beauty and pride . With some weakness to sunlight, not being able to eat normal human food most of the time and having to be in control of your emotions at all times. All it took was one slip up for a mistake to ruin your life and that wasn't an option. Ever.
These days they have taken to the sky's and the fresh year that the rich of Piltover blessed the city with. Allowing the people of Zaun to offer their blood for a small amount of coin and to give them that fake sense of freedom. The occasional rejected transformed Zaunite would cause havoc and kill a few people but that was about it in terms of danger. It was safe in Piltover while in Zaun it was a completely different story. Hunters ruled and made sure to keep all of their own safe away from the vampire's grasps. Especially purebloods. They were extremely rare and powerful with the ability to permanently change a human to a vampire. Most other vampires could have drugs or their blood to turn someone but it was painful and didn't always succeed. If the turning failed they could turn into a broken monster or simply die. While purebloods had no such issues and were a beacon of hope in their trying times. Allowing them to have hope and live the best of their lives.
While hunters had to turn to Piltover's trash to survive and were forced to do dangerous jobs to survive. Hunters made most of Zaun’s income and they would share it with their own making sure everyone got something even for the smallest of jobs. That was who the hunters were, kind and strong who gave their everything back to the people. Plenty of children and adults wanted to join their order to give back to their own. There was only a select group who were able to join, just because it was dangerous and not many people could handle killing. Monster or not. But one thing was clear; Topside and the Undercity had their monsters.
Children of the Night,
Children of the Day,
All in one city.
Feeding off one another.
Both fighting for survival.
Children tied both cities together.
A tale of a pair of children,
On each end of the extremes,
With shared histories.
Would change their worlds and possibly heal the damage done.
