Lotte was wearing her finest dress. The New Years Gala was in full swing, and despite having been invited this time she felt like a fish out of water.
Akko was with Diana. The two being an official couple and the saviors of magic meant that every important person in both magic and non-magic circles were trying to talk to them.
Sucy had excused herself, heavens knows where she is now. She either found the family snakes or is in the yard digging up mushrooms.
This left Lotte alone. And like sharks in the water, several boys made their way to her.
Okay, calling them sharks is mean. They were all actually relatively polite. Just a little pushy.
"So. Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Um.. Well.. I.."
"You look stunning."
"T-thank you.. I just."
"Will you dance with me?"
"Huh? Oh.. I.. Don't know"
She took a step back. And one of the boys grabbed Lotte's wrist. "Come on. Just one dance?"
Lotte had a slightly panicked expression… but before she could react one way or another, she saw a hand reach out and grab the boya wrist. Giving it a tight squeeze.
Lotte looked. It was Amanda. Dressed in a cute casual dress, and giving the boy a harsh expression. "You ever hear of not touching people without their permission?"
"Ah. Hey." The boy said, pulling his arm back.. "I was just asking her to dance.
"Next time ask." Amanda said. Arms folded. "Hey Lotte. Mind helping me with a thing?"
Lotte had a slight sigh of relief. Amanda had come to her rescue. "Of course"

"So what did you need help with?" Lotte asked. Standing outside. The cold air brushing against her exposed arms.
Amanda had a jacket over her dress. "Hmm? Oh. Nothing. Just thought you needed a break. Looks like you were about to have a panic attack"
Lotte looked down. "Heh.. Thanks.. But I don't want to take you away from your friends.."
"Heh. Please. Constanze and Jas are both enjoying themselves. Jas is mingling with the chefs. Constanze is helping Sucy find mushrooms."
"I think I see them out there.. Should we join them?"
"If you want. But I think they're vibing."
"Sucy and Constanze? Really? Do you think they're dating?"
"Maybe? Hard to tell." She shrugged. "They don't act like any couple i've seen. But hey. Not like I ever had a date."
"You never had a date…?" Lotte asked. “That’s weird… with how attractive you are- I mean”
Amanda smirked. “Oh? Is that a confession Janson?”
Lotte scratched her chin. “Sh-shoosh…”
“Heh. Is that why you always make me a lunch?”
“You look hungry…” Her eyes looked away. “I know you don’t like what the school serves.. I just don’t want you to starve.”
“Heh.. You’re sweet Lotte… Also are you cold?”
“Hmm? Well.. just a little.” She said looking away. “We can go inside if you-” But before she could say anything more. She found a jacket was put over her shoulders. The finnish girl blushed.
“There we go. For all the nice things you do for me” Amanda said, giving the shorter girl a soft smile.
Lotte laughed. “Oh please. You do nice things for *me* all the time… Whenever Akko isn’t there. You stand up for me whenever Hannah, Barbara, Avery… or any of the other girls start picking on me.”
“Well…” Amanda looked away. “You’re my friend right? And I mean. Hey. What about the time you stayed up real late just to help me study for Finnelans exam? You didn’t even take that class. Yet you sat me down and told me everything you knew.”
“It was on Spirits and their place in the world.. It was kind of a specialty of mine… You’re the one got my crystal ball after I dropped it in the lake.”
“Hey it was a nice swim! You cooked me a delicious meal for my birthday”
“You took the blame when my crystal ball went off during class.”
“Only because you’re smile makes me happy!” Amanda finally shouted… followed by a huge blush. “I mean… look. You’re like… the sweetest girl here okay? You don’t deserve bad things happening to you. You don’t deserve to be picked on. You’re a bit scatterbrained at times but… I like that about you.”
Lotte’s face was warm. Despite the cold wind blowing, she could hardly even notice it thanks to just how flushed her whole body was. “W-wow.”
“Sorry that… probably was too much..”
“No.. I feel the same way Amanda…” Lotte said. “You’re brash. Passionate. You always help your friends. You’re sweet. And I love that about you.”
Amanda’s face turned. Lotte’s face also turned. Both of them were very embarrassed.
And then, fireworks started.
“Oh..” Amanda said. “Heh.. looks like it’s midnight? Damn we should go back inside.”
“Yeah.” Her eyes looked through the large sliding glass window. She could see Akko and Diana sharing a new years kiss. “That looks nice though.”
“Oh? Yeah.” Amanda said. “I mean. I wouldn’t know. Never been kissed remember.”
Both of them stared at the fireworks some more. And then there eyes ventured towards each other.
Lotte stared at Amanda’s lips. Amanda stared at hers. They both had the same idea.
Lotte’s heart was pounding in her chest. Staring at the girl who was staring back. She was so beautiful. So amazing. And…
“Lotte..” She said. “...Kiss me”
Those words. Those words made Lotte’s heart throb. She couldn’t resist this wonderful girl. She moved her lips close. Feeling the head of the other girl as their lips were inches away. A soft peck started the kiss. Followed by another, and another. Both girls giving light little kisses, each one giving Lotte the most wonderful and euphoric sense. Before her mouth slowly opened. The kiss becoming much deeper. Much more passionate. The two sat there, holding each other as they open mouth kissed right outside. Fireworks blasting in the back as they both pulled away.
They stared at each others eyes. Loving looks.
“...Lotte. You want to date-”
“Yes.” Lotte replied without even letting her finish.
“Good.”
The two looked at each other. Their eyes fixed. And went right back to kissing.
Lotte loved this moment. Her first kiss, and now her second.
Many more will follow she was sure. But right now the two gave another long kiss.
“Hey!” Came a voice inside. “You two should do that inside!”
They pulled their lips away and turned. Akko was peeking out the window. Diana, Sucy, Constanze, Jasminka, and Hannah and Barbara were all behind them.
“Hey! Akko! Hush! We were watching that!” Hannah said huffing.
“You guys should take a picture it will last longer!” Amanda said sticking her tongue out.
“Hah. As if we didn’t!” Barbara said, both of them holding their phones out. Only for it to be snatched by Diana.
“Apologies you two..” Diana said with a sigh. “We had no intention of cutting your private moment… but we wanted to inform you that the rest of the guests are currently going home… And… it’ll just be us friends now.”
Lotte smiled. Just friends sounded wonderful. “We’ll be right in okay?”
“Yeah! We’re gonna watch my favorite Anime!” She said excitedly.
Amanda smirked as she watched them go inside. “Heh. It’s gonna be Chariot related isn’t it”
“Probably” Lotte giggled. “So… Should we.. talk about that?”
Amanda blushed a little. “It.. was nice… So. Want to do it again?”
Lotte giggled. “Yes… but later? It is a little cold… We can do it a lot more whenever you want okay?”
“Yeah.. yeah.. So we’re… dating now?” Amanda asked.
“If.. you want. We can talk about it more soon okay? But… for now..” She leaned in and gave her a peck on the lips. “That was a wonderful first kiss… whatever happens with us. I’m glad you’re with me.”
The two smiled at each other and went inside. The cold wind blowing. But both of them felt very warm.
