Remi played with the curls in Arlo’s hair while she read her book when a brilliant idea came to mind. “Hey Arlo” he turned his head to the side so he could look at her from his position on her lap “Have you ever kissed anyone before?”
Silence. The room had fallen deadly silent after those words left her mouth. Remi was getting ready to repeat her question because she assumed he must have not heard her when he sat up abruptly.
“Why would you ask that?” he didn’t sound angry, thank goodness, but he did seem very confused, so Remi knew she had to tread lightly.
“I was just wondering” she stated coolly making sure not to look up from her book “You barely tell me anything”.
“I never thought that would be something you would be care about,” he said dryly, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.
“Well, have you?” she asked again finally setting aside her book and facing him.
“No” he mumbled as if he was hoping she wouldn’t hear him “Have you?” he questioned.
“Nope,” Remi paused taking a moment to properly put together her thoughts “That’s why I asked you cause I want to know if my first kiss has had any experience”.
“Oh, that makes- wait what!” Arlo exclaimed looking the most confused she’s ever seen him.
“Right forgot to ask, Arlo will you do me the honours of being my first kiss?” she asked giving him her best puppy dog eyes.
He stared at her for what felt like years and in that moment, Remi felt her face heat up with embarrassment. She hadn’t even stopped to think about how humiliating it would have been if Arlo said no and nowhere, she was feeling like a complete fool. Just as she was about to pretend it was all a joke Arlo nodded his head yes.
“Really?” she stared at Arlo in disbelief. Had she just imagined him nodding?
“Yeah, why not,” he said calmly. So that was it they were actually going to kiss. Remi moved closer to Arlo so now she was directly facing him. He gently cupped her cheeks and pulled her closer to him but not close enough that their lips would be touching. He stared at her for a while seemingly checking to see if she was still okay with this, so she nodded. It seemed like that was all he needed before finally closing the gap between them.
Arlo’s lips were soft. That was the first thing that Remi noticed. The second thing she noticed was the weird burning feeling she got in her chest and stomach and oddly enough it was a nice feeling. The third thing that she noticed, much to her dismay, was that Arlo was pulling away.
“Did I do something wrong?” she asked trying to figure out why she was so desperate to have his lips against hers again.
“Funny I was about to ask you the same thing” he stated with a small laugh, that was more embarrassed than amused.
She stared at him with a confused look on her face wondering why he thought he had done something wrong. He must have picked up on her confusion because with flushed cheeks he mumbled “You didn’t kiss back”.
Oh. Oh no. She hadn’t remembered to kiss him back because she was too wrapped up in the way he made her feel. “Sorry, can we try again?” she asked shyly.
Once again, he nodded, and this time Remi was the one who initiated the kiss. Gently she placed her lips against his and almost immediately he kissed her back. His hands found their way to her cheeks again and hers gripped the front of his shirt.
They kissed like this for a while and Remi was content until she felt something brush against her bottom lip. She was startled at first but she made sure not to pull away so she could avoid the awkwardness that comes with asking him to kiss her again. It didn’t take long before she realized that the thing, she felt against her bottom lip was Arlo’s tongue, so she slowly opened her mouth to show him that he had her permission but instead of putting his tongue in her mouth like she expected he pulled away from the kiss.
For a while, they just sat on her bed breathing heavily while staring at each other, and at that moment all she could think of was how badly she wanted to kiss him again. Before she could act Arlo jumped up from her bed, said goodbye to her, and then practically ran out of her room.
