Work Text:
The dark. The cursed dark. This was crazy, Azula, princess of the fire nation, afraid of the dark. It was stupid really, but it was how it was. Azula rolled her eyes. “AANG! AANG,WHERE ARE YOU?!” she called out as she tried to make her way carefully down the stairs without falling. “Zula? You ok?” Azula scoffed, Was she ok? Of course she was, It was just the dark, no big deal.
Except it was a big deal, at least for her. Being a firebender, she never had to worry about the dark because she could firebend right? The only problem with it now was that their heat hadn’t been working for a week now, and now the power was out so Azula was absolutely freezing. Katara just had to have her baby in the south pole.
Azula would never openly admit to anyone she didn’t like the dark, she never thought she would have too. She lived in the fire nation with torches lit everywhere, and who in their right mind would question the fire princess if she “accidentally” left them on all the time. Nobody would, that's who. So she had kept it secret, could you believe what people would have said to her had they learned she was afraid of the dark? Agni she didn’t even want to think about it. “Zula?” Aang called out to her. Right he had been talking to her, “I’m fine Aang, the powers out, and I’m cold. Where are you?” She heard Aang snort from somewhere downstairs. Asshole, Its not her fault the power went out. “I’m in the living room darling, trying to start a fire. Little help?” “You can fire bend too genius, In case you forgot.” Aang chuckled, “No I didn’t forget, but I’m cold too.” Azula rolled her eyes, of course he was. They both were.
As she finally made her way into the kitchen, She grabbed Aangs arm and yelped quietly as he grabbed her by the waist pulling her in for a kiss. Azula gasped quietly as she wrapped her arms around the back of his neck. They kissed softly and passionately for a few minutes before Aang pulled back, “I have an idea. For how to get warm” “mhm what is it?” Azula said breathlessly. “Katara told me it’s how they get warm in the South Pole. It’s a cuddling for warmth technique using body heat.”
Azula paused, she knew what he meant, they hadn’t been intimate yet, both of them waving it for marriage, and even though this was technically so, it didn’t feel that way so she quietly agreed. They made their way back up the stairs and into their room. It was dead silence up to the room, getting in there, closing the door, and disrobing. Azula stripped down to her wraps as did Aang and they climbed into the bed. The cuddled close to each other, as they got warmer they both were able to start slightly warming themselves up little by little.
As they fell asleep, Azula’s thoughts began to wonder. Although she would never admit this outloud, she found herself grateful and lucky Aang was in her life. He never judged her and always was there no matter how bad it go when they fought or argued. If she needed him, he was always there for her and she was thankful for that. Looking down at him now, she kissed his forehead, “I love you” she whispered quietly before falling asleep herself. Peacefully content with her life, now and forever, as long as it was with him.
