Work Text:
Stiles was a not so bright eyed twenty year old when the CIA recruited him straight out of college. He took their deal with a devilish smile that spoke of how little he cared for his own life after all Stiles had little to no family left, few friends, and was left packless after the darkness never truly left him. Within his six years with the CIA, Stiles ran countless missions, most to this day he couldn't say a word about, still it wasn't until his third year with the CIA did, he ever truly learn to live again.
Most other agents took to avoiding him with his dark almost black eyes that were once whiskey. Stiles was a lot of things the other agents said he was dark, cold, and alone, but he wasn't as soulless as they all thought. With each kill or mission completed his ledger got redder and redder until it practically dripped with blood. It weighted heavily on his shoulders making him feel as though it reinforced the ideas of those who had left him (not that he would ever say their names). The weight of the gazes of friends long past never have truly left him nor have the ghosts either. They visit nightly after all.
But that third year with the CIA changed Stiles in ways he could only admit with pride, well it wasn't really his work with the CIA, but meeting a certain quirky FBI agent that changed Stile's life for the better and gave him the hope for a clean ledger.
When Stiles met Spencer Reid, he saw a man who had faced so much, but still had clear bright eyes. He was a man eager to change the lives of those around him and Stiles fell a little in love. Lucky for him Spencer Reid was just as enchanted with the man's dark whiskey eyes and saw the bit of light that still hoped, craved, for a better future.
The mission went well for the two and they parted ways with numbers shared. A year later Stiles would leave the CIA to go back to school to complete his master's in criminology and technology. Two years after the two had meet they would be wed with few present, but a strong sense of love. Finally, two years after the two had wed Stiles would join his husband, partner, best friend at the BAU.
Stiles had been with the BAU for about six months when a case came to the team from a town with an eerily familiar name. Stile's fist was tight around the folder as he made his way to Hotch's office. A shy smile fell over his features, "Hey Hotch." Anxiety sat in every crevice of his being cause of anything could shake the carefully build strength Stiles now owned it was the town of his youth.
Hotch, as always gave little way with his facial expression, "Yes Stilinski?" The man took in the agents form and had an icy feeling about what this was about.
Stiles took a deep breath and only years on the field kept him from breaking the man's gaze, "I'm from the town our next case is from, and I don't know if I can keep my personal bias away from this case."
Hotch nodded and face softened just the smallest bit around his eyes, "You're a damn good agent and this will be a good test for you. If you feel like you can no longer handle or feel compromised once we start working the case, I welcome you to remove yourself, but until then I want, your eyes and ears on this case. You might be our in with the police department and locals." Hotch knew is team well and Stilinski was a damn good agent life had just left him scarred. While many would be callous after six years with the CIA and whatever horrors Stiles faced in his youth Stiles wasn't. He was empathetic, kind, and perceptive. Sure, at times he could be untrusting, uneasy, and slightly unwelcoming, but no one is left untouched.
Stiles nodded, "Thanks boss." Stiles then steeled himself trusting his boss and friend as he went from Stiles to agent Stilinski. There was much he could see that others within the team might not as he had seen the horrors of Beacon Hills and came out the other side.
Hotch gave the young man a small smile before waving him away. His trust in his team had failed him little over the years and he knew he was right to place it once more in the young agent.
Stiles walked out of the office feeling just a bit stronger in his abilities and made his way to his husband. Stiles might have been a part of law enforcement for the most of his twenties, but the CIA was much different from the BAU and at times he found himself questioning his skills around such seasoned agents. Spencer was reading quickly over the file and only looked up once Stiles laid his hand on the other man's shoulder.
Hotch came to the top of the stairs calling out to his team, "Load up." The words echoed in Stiles ears as he finally geared himself to leave behind his civilian identity.
Still one last act as Stiles had him stay by his husband's side. Stiles nodded to Spencer as he grabbed their to-go bags and the two began to walk to where the rest of the team was gathered.
On the plane Hotch pulled up the crime scene images that the Beacon Hills local police department had taken. Garcia begun, "We got three bodies found so far within a two mile radius out in Beacon Hills preserve. The first body found, and at this time first victim, is 28 year old female Donna Clark. She was Caucasian with blond hair and brown eyes. Clark worked as a receptionist for a small law firm in town. Our second victim is 45 year old male Don Thatcher. Don had red hair that had begun to grey with blue eyes. He worked as factory worker in the next town over. Finally, we have 19 year old male Timothy Sloan who was African American with brown eyes and brown hair. Sloan was also currently unemployed."
She took a deep breath hurt and pain slightly lingering in her eyes, "The bodies were found to have been beaten with brute force until the victim's death. The bodies were left out in the open about four miles south of the cemetery in the preserve."
Reid peaked his head up from the case file a question in his gaze, "How were they found, Garcia?"
She gave him a bright smile once more distancing herself from the pictures, "Funny enough you should ask boy wonder it says here that they were found by a group of forest rangers."
Stilinski cocked his head to the side, "Forest rangers?"
Garcia smiled, "Yup?'
Hotch shot Stilinski a look, "Why do you ask?"
Stilinski shook his head, "It could be nothing, but when I was a teenager, we had very few forest rangers. No where near what would be need to frequently search lessor used parts of the persevere such as the area where the bodies were found."
Hotch nodded taking in the young agent's information before turning back to the team, "Read over what is left of the files and information about the town of Beacon Hills ask Stilinski about any questions if you need too. When we land, I want Stilinski and Rossi to go to the morgue, JJ with me to head to the police department, Morgan, and Reid to the crime scenes. Meet back at the police department to discuss and present our profile."
When the plane landed Stilinski had a slightly nauseous feeling in his gut. He hadn't been back in Beacon Hills since the pack had cast him out all those years ago. Still Stiles knew the roads like the back of his hand and the way to the Sheriff's station was ingrained into the very fiber of his being.
Stilinski and Rossi spilt off from the other once they had gotten to the station to head to the local hospital where the bodies were being housed. Rossi had a soft smug smirk when he asked, "You from around here kid?"
Stiles scuffed playful before answering sarcastically, "You could say that."
Rossi hummed softly, "It's the kind of town where stuff like this happens a little too often isn't it?"
Stilinski took in the older man's tone of voice and nodded. His voice was stuck in his throat as he explained, "This town wasn't always like this. It started with a crazy woman burning a family alive in their house, but that isn't even the worse of it. When I was a teenager, I saw more craziness and murder from this town than I did most of my time in the CIA."
Rossi nodded his understanding before speaking softly to the young agent once more, "After something like that happens in a town like this one it leaves scars."
Stiles, not agent Stilinski, thought about kids who stumbled into the supernatural and the half of them that made it out the other side. The darkness that was stuck in their heads and hearts. He thought about being pushed out and away from those he held dear and losing just about everyone he ever cared about because of a demon, who was betrayed. Stilinski had to answer though so with words still stuck in his throat he nodded, "Yeah it does."
The pair finished the drive in silence lost in thoughts long ago about towns that where haunted by violence and hatred much like this one. Towns that much like the people that lived their remembered the pain and often injustice that had happened to them. Those towns though also remembered those who were kind to them and showed them favor.
Beacon Hill's, the town itself, had a long memory from the gold miners and those before that it cradled in its valley. From the supernatural to the human alike. It remembers the Hale's as they were and as they are now and finally it remembered a young boy strange and loyal that had to grow up too fast. It remembers the boy Stilinski had been and who he had become. The town was glad he had come back but knew he would leave once more for he was not the towns anymore.
At the morgue, the agents buckled down and put on their best faces before heading into the section of the hospital dedicated to those who died. Stilinski looked over the first victim looking for the few signs a killer might leave.
Rossi nodded as Stilinski pointed at a large mass of bruising and broken skin before humming, "Post-mortem sexual assault and complete overkill so to speak."
Stilinski nodded, "Most likely disorganized killer took her by chance." The two moved over to the next victim and noticed similar signs before looking at the final person who had lost their life. The victims both male and female had signs of sexual assault after their deaths and each body became more scarred.
In the car the two compared notes and brained stormed. Stilinski spoke first, "He definitely doesn't have a victim type. You saw them they were so different. I can't name one thing about them other than maybe the location they were found that links them together."
"He is getting angry by the looks of it too. The final victim had much more damage compared to the first so not only are we looking for a killer who is disorganized we are also looking for one that is angry and isn't afraid to blitz attack anyone." Rossi responded a thoughtful voice that spoke of long time experience echoing around the car.
Stilinski nodded, "I'm thinking the same thing. What I'm worried about his why he is doing this and as of right now the medical examiner couldn't find much on how long the bodies had been there due to the strange cold front Beacon Hills has had."
Rossi agreed, but brought up another worrying point, "Now that his dump site has been upset this could cause him further into the fantasy and increase the killings."
As they reached the police department once more Stilinski got out with lated breathe. He had a feeling something was going to happen wash over him and as Rossi took in the young man's expression he nodded, "Trust your gut kid."
Stilinski nodded trusting the older man and his instincts before walking into the police department for the first time. The team gathered in a room that had once been the room Stiles was sent to play in when he was a kid. It was strange to see the lack of signs of his father and a new sheriff having taken on the badge. Most of the people Stiles had grow up with there long dead or retired. New faces both young and old had taken their places within the building that Stiles spend many hours of his youth in.
Reid started first talking about how the dump sites were clustered together which fed into Stilinski and Rossi's theory of this being a disorganized killer. As well as the victim's families didn't know any of the other victims or if their loved ones had known them.
Sooner that he might have hoped Stilinski found himself in front of the police department which he had grown up in giving a profile about a killer which was now terrorizing his hometown. Hotch began as he often did, "We are looking for a man who is physically strong, but who might not be outwardly attractive. He has to blitz attack his victims not lure than."
Stilinski continued, "This man due to how he attacks his victims is going to be someone who works a physical job away from other people. He won't own this company, nor will he be someone who is easy accepted in the neighborhood. He is middle aged as he has probably settled into the background of the community.
JJ continues for him, "He is of lower intelligence probably didn't finish high school nor would he be someone who dates. Due to his antisocial nature, he will live alone near the crime scene."
Reid finishes, "This man is dangerous he doesn't pick or chose his victims. They are strangers and could be anyone he meets that fits his delusion as such he is very dangerous and should be approached with caution. Remember this man does not want to be caught but is not socially intelligent enough not to attack in broad daylight. Thank you."
The team pulled away from questions and took to the room provided for them once more. Stilinski turned just in time to catch a flash of red hair as ice shot through his stomach. He halted his turn and watched as the girl he once thought he was in love with crowded the sheriff finger too his chest with questions.
Hotch shoot the young agent a look and with a quirked eyebrow asked, "You know her?"
Stilinski tilted his head and with a shrug answered the man, "Maybe once."
The young women when he did not get her answers from the sheriff turned just in time to catch Stilinski in her vision. She walked to him her finger pointed sharply and angry laced across all her features. Hate spilled from her every pore as her sharp eyes land on Stilinski dark whiskey ones, "What the fuck do you think you are doing here? You know you aren't welcome in this town anymore you damn coward."
Stilinski took a deep breathe and shot a glance at Hotch who only gave him a nod before turning to talk to JJ. Stilinski with the trust of his boss and friend focused his energy in dealing with the young women as if he would an unsub, "Lydia."
She spat back at him venom on the tip of her tongue, "What? Are you stupid or something because you know you're not welcome here? You think that after all these years you can just walk back in the town like you are from here cause let me tell you are not welcome."
Stilinski took a deep breathe before hardening his gaze, "I am here with the FBI to investigate the murders which have been taking place." Stiles barely kept himself from hissing, "My team and I were invited by not only local law enforcement, but the senator of the state to work the case that happen to befall this town. Now if you have any information or evidence you would like to share, I encourage you to say so as I can lead you to an agent to take your statement otherwise, I encourage you to leave without creating a scene."
As soon as the last words were out of his mouth Stilinski knew he had fucked up as Lydia's face only got a brighter red. Some part of him way back in his mind questioned how he ever found her attractive while the other was mostly focused on avoiding her swinging hand.
Morgan jumped in catching her hand, "Whoa there ma'am it is a federal crime to assault a federal agent."
Stilinski took another deep breath before shooting Morgan a thankful look. Lydia spat out even more words laced with curses, "That stupid motherfucker is lying to you, dumb shits. He isn't a fucking FBI agent he is literally nothing. Nothing I tell you." She turned to Stilinski a sharp oddly pleased look in her eyes, "Just wait until I tell Scott you're back in town he'll run you out like the fucking rodent you are."
Morgan's features hardened, "Ma'am I'm going to have to have to assist you off the perimeter as you are reacting with unwarranted behavior. Now can you collect yourself or do you need to leave?"
Lydia turned on her heel a less than gleeful look on her face and hatred in every fiber of her being, "Oh just you wait. You might not make it out alive this time?"
Morgan watched her go sharply before turning to Stilinski a slightly playful look in his eyes, "That an ex of yours, man?"
Stilinski snorted, "Thankfully not, just an ex friend who has clearly gone downhill after high school."
Morgan shot him one more look, "You sure you don't want to press charges? We could get her on attempted assault of a federal agent, threating other officials, and like maybe disrupting a federal investigation."
"It's not worth it to me. Thanks for having my back and catching her hand because I really didn't want to have a shiner." Stilinski responded shaking his head.
Hotch made his way over something heavy in his shoulders and a frown laid over his features, "Another body was found this time with a note."
Stilinski cocked his head, "Is there something else?"
Hotch looked up at his youngest agent something soft and sad in his eyes, "It was addressed to you."
Stilinski haltered, "What?"
Hotch nodded sharply, "I want you and Morgan to head out to where the body was found and take a look at the note as well as the body. There has already been an ID of the body so JJ and Rossi are going to be talking to the victim's family while Reid works on a geographical profile for where he might live. I'm going to try and see what I can find out from the LEOs?"
Morgan nodded, "We can do that." He then turned to Stilinski looking at him with a serious expression, "I'll go grab the car while you say goodbye to pretty boy, okay?"
Stilinski nodded and as he turned to say goodbye to his husband Hotch grabbed his arm, "I don't want you off this case yet, but if it gets too much tell me alright?"
Stilinski nodded, "I'm doing alright right now Hotch I just need to keep moving. I don't even know how the killer who apparently knows me knew I was in town. Strange things happen in this town, but even this is pushing it."
Hotch looked at the man kindly, "Whatever it is we will deal with it," Hotch tightened his features into his normal serious disposition, "Now go say goodbye to agent Reid and make him drink something other than coffee before you go."
Stilinski gave a subtle mock salute before turning to go talk to his husband, "Yes sir boss man sir."
Hotch rolled his eyes before turning to go talk to the other policemen. Stilinski smiled fondly with worry creeping behind his eyes as he went looking for his husband. A quick search let him to the sheriff's office, which as it had when his dad was sheriff, had a huge white board and pen board along the walls. Spencer was standing back having just put up the relative information that he and Garcia had managed to find from old records and the internet.
Stilinski after a quick glance over the place noticing no one else wrapped his arms around the older man, "Hey sweetie."
Reid scrunched his nose in a way that Stiles found absolutely adorable, "Did you know that there are about 1,628 serial killer victims per year in California which is the highest of any state in the US."
Stilinski hummed his arms still gently around his husband as he quickly changed Reid's coffee for a Gatorade instead. Reid's head still in the library that was his brain continued, "I've been looking over old cases and I can't help but find that this county seems to have contributed an oddly high number of those killings."
"This town isn't normal Spence," Stilinski sighed in his husband's ear softly.
Reid turned gently breaking Stilinski grip on him and upon the look on his husband's face Reid slide away Spencer taking his place worry in his eyes, "What's wrong husband mine?"
Stiles took agent Stilinski place for a few moments as he spoke in hushed tones, "Being back in this town, the note left for me just hours of returning, and being in his office," Stiles eyes filled with just a beginning of tears, "I know he's been gone for years now, but being back here its just so much harder. I can only hope he is happy and that his spirit has moved on from this god awful place."
Spencer smiled sadly at his husband gently wiping away the tears that fell, "You know that no matter what the team and I are going to be here for you."
Stiles blow out a breath collecting himself before place a gentle kiss on his husband's lips and slipping back into agent Stilinski. He watched his husband do the same. Stilinski nodded and quietly thanked the man before saying softly, "I got to go Morgan's waiting and the quicker we get this case solved..."
Reid nodded a quirky smirk on his lips, "We can get home and our baddie is locked up."
Stilinski snorted giving the man one last squeeze before turning and heading out back into the busy police station. He caught Hotch's eye as he made his way out and gave him a nod.
Morgan was already waiting long having pulled out his phone texting Garcia who knows what when Stilinski swung himself into the car, "Took you long enough there, kid wonder," the man said with a smirk that reached his eyes.
Stilinski rolled his own eyes and grunted as the man pulled out of the parking lot, "Had to switch Spence's coffee."
Morgan let out a chuckle before engaging the other agent in a conversation about the case for most of the drive as they pulled into the graveyard near where the newest body was discovered Morgan gently grabbed Stilinski wrist before the younger man could get out, "You know no one would blame you if you wanted to be pulled off this case right?"
Stilinski sighed knowing that his team wasn't doubting his ability, but instead was concerned for him. They knew after many confessions how much this town had hurt him and how hard it was for him to come back. His teammates and friends could see the weight that had settled into the young man's shoulders as each factor of the case came out. Still the young man answered as best he could, "I think I have to be part of this. At first, I wasn't too sure, but now I just got a feeling. Maybe after this case I can let this town live or die in my past without feeling unsettled."
Morgan nodded before letting go and getting out of the car, "So we know our guy has to live around here, right?"
Stilinski nodded it was textbook disorganized killer they often lived around or worked around their dump sites, so they were easy to get too and easy to revisit. As well as the killers often didn't have the forethought or planning to have dumpsites more hidden. This was also why the guy left the victims in plain view. Morgan continued his voice low, "There aren't that many jobs around this area that would allow our guy to stay close to home as well as be close to the dumpsite. I'm thinking he probably doesn't live that far from here and maybe even works for the graveyard."
"Let's have Garcia run names of the people who live near here as well as work in the graveyard that met our profile after we see what we are looking at with our victim here." Stilinski responded in an equally quiet tone of voice.
The LEOs were looking at them sharply as they approached the crime scene. Most were pissed that federal agent had come in the take their case so to speak while others were just suspicious of outsiders. Still Stilinski only had eyes for the crime scene. The first thing he noticed was a literal brute strength that went into the destruction of the victim. What was left of her chest was bloody pulp while her face was one that Stilinski was once acquainted with. Malia Tate or at least she was when Stilinski had known her. He grabbed his friend's arm and carefully said, "I knew her."
Morgan carefully nodded, "Do you think she is part of the message?"
Stilinski shrugged, "I'm not sure. I'm going to head over and see the note maybe that will clear it up?"
Morgan gave him a nod before walking over to talk to the deputy sheriff giving Stilinski space to look over the note without Morgan standing there. Stilinski took a deep breathe filling his lungs with as much air as possible before letting it out and heading over the to tree where the note was nailed in place. He couldn't help but notice that this would be out of the normal for this type of killer. Stilinski leaned in to read the note. It read:
Dear Agent Stilinski
It cannot be seen whenever it's there. It fills up a room and is much like the air. It cannot be touched, and there's nothing to hear. It is quite harmless – there's nothing to fear. What is it?"
Stilinski felt a tight coil in his stomach as he took in the riddle and what it could possibly mean. He knew right off the bat that these killings weren't made by void, itself, as they weren't planned out in any sort of way other than this final one. He also knew that the person who void was speaking through was clearly deteriorating quickly as the brutality of this crime scene doubled that of the pervious victims.
Morgan had made his way over the younger agent and gently placing a hand on his shoulder asks, "So what's it mean?"
Stilinski shook his head and quietly answered, "Not here let's get back to the team."
Morgan nodded trusting the young man and quickly turned to head back to the car Stilinski at his side. Morgan let the car ride go in silence as he knew his friend often needed time to collect his thoughts.
When they got back to the station all hell had broken lose from the looks and sounds of it. There was a young man about Stilinski age standing in the middle of the room shouting at Hotch and the sheriff he had the red haired girl from earlier wrapped around his arm with a smirk lining her features. Behind him was a man a few years younger looking angry and confused. Finally taking up the rear and blocking in everyone else was two dark haired men who looked uncomfortable.
The young man shouted, "That was my fucking wife you found dead out there and you're letting some no name asshole who shouldn't even be in this town work the case!"
Morgan elbowed Stilinski gently and quietly whispered, "Sounds like it's about you, boo."
Stilinski rolled his eyes before catching Hotch's eyes and giving him a little nod. Hotch gave nothing way from his features, but he saw the man's shoulders get tighter. Hotch in an almost too calm voice that spoke of years of experience replied, "Agent Stilinski is a valued member of this team and has been asked to stay on the case. This is not up to your judgement. What you are doing is holding up our investigation which could help solve the murder of your wife."
As Stilinski and Morgan tried to slip by Scott spun around noticing the young man, "You!" he shouted causing the whole police station to pause. The young man who had once been Stiles best friend snarled, "You are probably the one of the killing these people."
Morgan took a step forward before Hotch shot him a look. Stilinski gave the pack a good once over before responding he saw the haggard faces of the Hales, the angry face of Liam who seemed seconds away from losing control, the smug face of Lydia who was cuddling into the alpha's arm, and finally the hate filled face of Scott McCall. Stilinski sighed and was about ready to calmly talk to the alpha when his husband came bounding out of the room eyes bright.
In a single second the room went from tense to full on battle grounds. Liam made a lunge for the man as his control was broken and Stilinski stepped in front of his husband to protect him stopping the beta with a quick twist of his wrist. The beta was halted as Stilinski magic held him back. The room's heat seemed to drop as all eyes fell on Stilinski. The battle was stopped but tension was rising higher than ever.
Hotch calmly as ever stated, "We need you to leave to premises when we have new information, we will let you know, but until then please stay out of the preserve and abide by any other warnings."
Scott stuttered out, "The woods are ours and Malia was only attacked because Stiles knew she would be out there."
Hotch's skin around his eyes tightened even more as he stated once more, "Agent Stilinski had nothing to do with the murder of your wife. The preserve is owned by the state, and no one should be in them as they are dangerous."
Scott turned on the older man his eyes flashing red, "You're probably helping him get away with it."
Hotch leveled the man a look, "No one on my team was in the state of California until this morning. You have no reason to believe that any of us could have committed any of these crimes. We understand you are upset, and we are sorry for you lose, but sir we need you and your friends to leave you are halting our investigation, causing a scene, and almost having assaulted a federal agent for the second time again today. If it happens again, we will have to take you into police custody. Once more I ask you to leave."
Scott turned his sharp almost red eyes over the team noticing Stilinski stance in front of the other agent Liam had almost attack he rudely asked as the pack began to funnel out, "What he a little bitch or something?"
Stilinski standing firm and calm stated, "On this team we protect each other." He let Liam go from his magics hold as now the younger wolf just looked sheepish and embraced more so than angry. The young wolf quickly made is way out of the station following the others tail metaphorically between his legs.
Scott felt the dig for what it was and with Lydia still hanging on his arm an awful smirk on her face snarled at the man before finally turning to leave.
Stilinski finally let out the breath he had been holding at the pack made their way out. Morgan gently grabbed his arm and Stilinski gave him a nod. It was stressful, but he was more concerned with Liam almost attack his husband and finishing this case. The team after a quick breath gathered in the conference room they were given.
Hotch gave him a nod to begin after the team had collected themselves for a few moments.
Stilinski leaned against the table facing his other team members began, "At the crime scene, we could clearly see that the victim was beaten with much more rage and hostility than any victim before. Which fits well with our profile. Morgan also brought up checking to see who works at the graveyard for lists of suspects as they would have the type of manual labor job we are looking for as well as the radius. This would also give him the chance to see the funerals when they happen. What was interesting and connects me to the case is the note. It was obviously titled to me, but it was a riddle that read: It cannot be seen whenever it's there. It fills up a room and is much like the air. It cannot be touched, and there's nothing to hear. It is quite harmless – there's nothing to fear. What is it?"
Reid within moments of his husband finishing responded, "Darkness."
"Exactly," Stilinski responded, "I've told you a little about my background in the supernatural, but the being that possessed me often gave me riddles like this one and he was literally darkness or void. But there is no way he is doing these killings, but if he has gained enough energy, he might be able to be talking to our victim."
Rossi nodded, "So an evil spirit targets this man who is probably religious and has been abused. He's low intelligence someone who is already angry and starts talking to him."
"So, we have a visionary killer who believes he is being spoken to by a higher being. This being is now leaving messages for you," Reid continues looking to his husband.
Stilinski shrugs slightly, "I think me being here is just a chance he is using to create more chaos to feed himself, but what we do know is that he doesn't have that much control over our killer."
Morgan nodded before asking, "How do you know that?"
"Void always had a plan these killings are clearly disorganized there is no way he is doing them directly and our killer is getting bolder angrier because Void isn't pleased it just isn't enough for him."
Hotch looks over his team pride flush in his gut, "Let's get Garcia on the phone and see what she can find, but in the meantime lets head to the hotel and rest for the night our killers going to need time to cool down. Tomorrow morning, I want Reid and Stilinski researching how we can get rid of this void for good. Morgan, Rossi, and I will head out after Garcia gets back to us and JJ, I want you to handle the press do not let that note get out."
The team broke away again weariness hitting them as they made it out the doors of the police station. Derek was making a grab for his headphones, JJ was calling up Will and Henry, Hotch was quiet but typing away a message to Beth and Jack, Dave was also quiet writing in a notebook he often carried with him, Spencer gave his husband a soft smile as Stilinski settled back into Stiles for the night.
As the group got into the two cars provide Hotch, Dave, and JJ in one Stiles felt hand reach out and harshly grip his arm. He turned to see the pack standing feet away from the police station. Derek had Stile's hand in his hold.
Stiles let out a breath feeling a hard feeling enter his chest, but he waved Derek on and gently told Spencer, "I'll meet you in a few minutes, okay?"
Spencer gave a nod going a head and whispering the same to Derek. Stiles knowing the others were away and he was off duty technically turned on the pack something slightly ugly in his eyes, "What do you guys want?" Stiles let his magic heat him up.
Derek let go of the man as if he had been burned. Peter quirked an eyebrow a smirk firm on his lips. Scott was the one who spoke though, "We just want to know what the hell is going on."
Stiles shook his head, "I can't tell you shit and even if I wanted too I wouldn't."
Lydia rolled her eyes, "All this hatred because we decided you didn't fit in with us anymore."
"Hell no," fell out of Stiles lips, "I grew up unlike you guys seemed too. No, I wouldn't help you because you have belittled my team, made my job harder, attacked me, and tried to attack my husband." He told them with his back straight after all he had faced worse in his time with the CIA and faced real killers with the BAU.
Peter's smirk widened while Scott stuttered, "Husband? I thought you're attracted to Lydia?"
Stiles rolled his eyes his arms crossed, "This isn't about my sexuality this is about your interference with a federal case that could cost people their lives."
Lydia's lips curled, "It's illegal to work at a federal level with you're significant other and doesn't the FBI have a don't ask don't tell policy."
Stiles actually snorted, "Clearly you don't know you're laws as long as they aren't your supervisor, and you can prove you can work together in the field the FBI lets agents no matter their relationship work together and the don't ask don't tell policy was abolished in 2011."
Peter smiled slyly, "Is he the cute little twink?"
"He's a federal agent who can shot a gun and has four PHD's is what he is. If he is a twink or not is none of you're business." Stiles shot him a look that spoke of burning, Molotov's, and death.
Scott narrowed his eyes, "If the case is oh so important and we are getting in the way then why do you get to leave."
Stiles looked at him frustration clear on his face, "FBI agents still need sleep. Our techs are looking for info and will let us know when their something new until then we can eat and sleep you know like normal people?" Stiles shook his head, "Look I got to go."
He turned to leave but Scott had to get the last word in, "You were always one to leave weren't you."
Stiles snorted as he walked to the car where the rest of his team was waiting, "And you always were one to push people away."
Derek shot Stiles a look once he got in the car but didn't say anything more than an "I'm sorry man."
Stiles shrugged and leaned into his husband and quietly respond, "They don't matter, and they haven't for years."
Derek nodded using the mirror to look at his friend as Spencer gently combed his fingers through the younger man's hair. Spencer placed small modest kisses along Stile's jaw as the younger man melted into him.
Derek teased, "Keep it decent boys." Bur Stiles only rolled his eyes as his husband blushed both staying huddled together. Some cases were harder than other and with this one Stiles needed his husband's wordless strength. Stiles was thankful to have the support of such an amazing team that even in the worse of towns and people placed their trust in him.
When they finally reached the diner where the team was meant to meet Hotch accept a mumbled, "The pack" from Stiles before they chatted softly about other things.
The diner was one Stiles often went to with his mother when he was a child, he was sure the waitress was the same one that used to know his name and order by hear, but time had her forget his face. He thought of moments when he and his dad ate here for celebrations and when he and Scott once Stiles got his license. Diners like this one were all over the US, after all the team ate at enough greasy spoons to know, but even this diner didn't feel like anything more than an old memory. No place in Beacon Hill's felt like home anymore Stiles was finding the pack were strangers hostile at that, the diners were as any other, and his dad's house was long sold a new sheriff haven taken the badge. Still Stiles laughed as the team let the stress of the case fall of their shoulders until tomorrow.
When the meal the meal was finished, and the team was heading off to bed Spencer gently washed Stile's hair before the two finished their showers and sat on the bed. Spencer looked at his husband with the softest expression anyone had ever seen from the man he asked, "You okay, love?"
Stiles nodded pleased that he had a husband that understood, "I'm okay. This town doesn't mean nearly as much as I thought it would." Even the town knew this as it let go its last grips on the young man. Stiles continued, "I'll be happy once we are back home and away from this place. The pack might have cast me out and kicked me from the town, but Ill be honest I would be happy to never come back."
Spencer asked gently as he knew it had always bothered his husband, "Not even to visit your parent's graves?"
Stiles shook his head, "No, my parents aren't here anymore. The graves that are left are just that. I got all my parents have ever given me and with me in my heart and my memories."
Spencer gently brushed his hands over his husband's cheeks before pulling in for a soft kiss, "Okay baby," he pulled back slightly and teased, "And I know you switched my drink."
Stiles shrugged a laugh on his tongue, "Somebody had too baby and Hotch ordered me."
"An order from the boss hu?" Spencer teased.
Stiles nodded, "Oh yeah can't go risking my job you know the only reason they hired me was to wrangle you."
Spencer' eyes twinkled, "And here I thought they hired you for your supernatural experience."
"Nah they needed a certified genius," Stiles replied a grin across his face.
Spencer hummed before pulling the man close snuggling in closing his eyes and softly saying, "If you say so."
Stile's grin softened as he took in his tired husband, "I know so. Goodnight baby."
"Love you," the genius mumbled softly.
Stiles whispered back, "I love you too." Before closing his eyes and fading off to sleep.
The next day the team was back at it again after a quick breakfast. Reid and Stilinski were on researching how to get rid of the Nogitsune while Hotch and the others were out talking to suspects.
Stilinski looked up from the book he was reading with a bright shine to his eyes his husband had caught the movement and looked up at the man. With a large grin Stilinski started pacing back and forth, "I think I got how we can get rid of the Nogitsune once and for all. It's so stupid simple I can't believe we didn't come up with it when we were younger."
Reid watched his husband with a hidden grin. People always said he tended to ramble, but clearly, they had never seen his husband once he had gotten going. Still Reid cocked his head to the side and asked, "So what is it?"
Stilinski turned to him blinking, "Oh so the Nogitsune is a creature or spirit of darkness, right? So, we just need to..."
"Flood it with light," Reid finished with a grin of his own.
Stiles snapped his fingers, "Exactly."
Reid asked slightly hesitantly, "So where is it then?'
Stiles hummed, "I think I know a place to start let's shoot Hotch a message then head out."
Hotch gave them the green light saying they think they had found the guy and within minutes the two were off to the vets.
Stilinski was the first to walk into the vet's office both surprised and not to find Scott behind the desk. The other man snarled at him once more, "What are you doing here?"
Stilinski peered around him, "Looking for Dr. Deaton he in?"
Said man slipped out from the back rooms once his name had been said, "How man I help you Mr. Stilinski?"
Scott snarked, "Better watch out Doc he might try and arrest you for murder."
Stilinski kept himself from rolling his eyes and asked in a serious, but calm voice, "Do you still have the Nogitsune?"
The dark skin man nodded, "I do."
As Scott yelled, "Aw hell no! You aren't letting that thing out." His fangs popped out and his eyes glowed.
Stilinski shook his head feeling his husband at his back, "No, the Nogitsune is acting as stressor for our unsub. We believe the Nogitsune has been feeding the man messages. I found a way to destroy it for good, but to do so I need access to it. I don't have to remove it from its container just need it to be physically present."
Deaton nodded, "If you and your companion would follow me, please I can take you to it. I only ask that you keep to your word and do not remove it from its bindings."
Scott snarled and stood to block their way, but as he did yesterday Stilinski stopped the werewolf with a simple flick of his wrist. "Thank you doctor." He and Reid walked past as Scott was stuck.
The doctor came out from a hidden storage room with the container that Stilinski hoped to never see again. He held his breath as it was placed in front of him. Reid gently gripped his arm and gave him a nod of approval. Stiles let out the breath that had been trapped in his lungs and felt down in his gut for his magic. Pulling it to the surface had come easier over the years and now it was as simple as a deep breath. He whispered, "Close your eyes."
Before letting the magic flood, the room and cover every corner and hint of darkness. He felt his magic as it compressed the void's dark essences until nothing, but light was left. Only a moment after did he pull his magic back in. Where the box once sat was nothing.
A warm smile fell over those in the rooms features as everything felt light. Stilinski felt a rush of exhaustion hit him and leaned more into his husband.
Dr. Deaton nodded to the two men, "You have my thanks, young man."
Stilinski nodded accepted before turning to leave his husband by his side. They passed Scott still frozen either by magic or awe Stiles wasn't completely sure still once he existed the building, he flicked his wrist to release the wolf either way.
Reid gripped his hand and showed him the phone with the other before whispering, "They got our man."
Stilinski, no Stiles, leaned his forehead against his husbands and whispered equally as quietly, "We can go home."
Spencer whispered back, "Yes we can."
The team wrapped up the case quickly after that a finding enough evidence in the suspect's house to put him behind bars for the four murders at least a life sentence. A man named Dale Singer who had an abusive father, low self-esteem, and the religious background and angry issues that Void knew how to exploit. Void was taken care of and maybe just maybe Stiles Reid-Stilinski would never have to come bac to the town of Beacon Hills again.
As the team loaded onto the jet, Stiles looked over the town one last time thinking about home. The town itself mourned it had lost of one of its favorites for the final time. It let go of its last connection to him and left him feeling lighter.
Stilinski didn't need an anchor to a place his home was with his team wherever the jet might take them tomorrow, it was where his husband was, it was there little apartment covered in books, movies, and comics, and hell sometimes home was the soft laughs of his friends and the even softer I love you's of his husband. Home was not what was left behind.
