Chapter Text
Episode 8 19:20 - 22:06 continued
Dr Kang had asked him about his personal feelings towards her and he vehemently denied it. After she left the makeshift infirmary where Young Ro was resting, he did something without realizing it, he slipped into the room and closed the door. He told Dr Kang to stay at the main hall with the other hostages in case anyone acts up and told his comandres he was going to get some rest.
Soo Ho’s heart pained seeing the ever-energetic and passionate Young Ro looking so fragile and tired.
I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. Soo Ho thought as he watched over her sleeping, curled up, shivering due to the cold. He sighed at how his desire to see her for the last time, to ensure her safety only made it detrimental to her and everyone else at the dormitory. How a short glance of her turned into a hostage situation.
“Can we meet again?” Young Ro had asked him, he remembered her upset expression the night before the open house.
“If I hadn’t picked up the paper airplane.” Soo Ho felt his heartache whenever she spoke to him cause he could hear the anger in her voice and he knew how vexed she was, how hurt and upset she was. Now not only was she in a hostage situation but her brother was killed in a mission during his duty which caused her to faint shock.
“If I hadn’t met you in the first place…….” He knew very well it was due to the deal made by the higher-ups that were causing them to be embroiled in this web. How many more lives did they have to put at risk and how many innocent lives were they willing to take, he was scared to even ask that question. To them, they were simply collateral damage for their ‘revolutionary’ mission.
Without realizing he was standing beside her, she was sound asleep, her face looked so sweet and loving. He reached out and caressed her cheeks with his fingertips, pushing her hair back from her forehead. He looked at her, desperate to pull her into his arms and let all the nightmares of the reality they were in melt away.
He grabbed a chair and placed it beside her bed, taking a seat, putting the riffle down as gently as he could before hesitantly taking her hand into his. He whispered only for her to hear, slowly as if each word inflicted immense pain “If I had been an ordinary man…….”
He clasped her hand both of his as if he was praying, he probably was. Praying that she forgave him. Praying they got out of this situation alive. Praying that he could love her despite everything. He did not realize he was crying till he felt droplets fall onto their hands, he wiped his tears and gently laid his head on the edge of the bed still holding onto Young Ro’s hand. “If I had been an ordinary man…….”
Peaceful sleep engulfed him as he held on tightly to her hands as if they were his only lifeline.

“Do you want to have dinner with me tomorrow?” Soo Ho hesitantly asked Young Ro, he wanted her to desperately pick his paper plane during their blind date but her friend seemed snatched it before his eyes. Somehow he managed to decline her offer and run into Young Ro and he was not going to let this opportunity go.
“Sure, I would like that.” Young Ro replied, suppressing her smile.
“I’ll walk you to your dormitory.” Soo Ho offered, oblivious to the fact that walked past a wedding dress shop, both of them felt giddy and bashful. Smiling at each other and stealing glances.
After their dinner the next day, Young Ro invited Soo Ho to their university’s open house which he happily accepted, even promising to keep Gwang Tae away from her roommate.
Soo Ho arrived at the open house, wearing a simple navy blue suit. He waited in front of the entrance. Young Ro told him to meet her at the entrance at 3 pm he was too excited and arrived half an hour early. He assumed Young Ro would meet him exactly at 3 pm but as if she was reading his mind, she too was walking down the stairs towards him. He gasped, she looked heavenly. Wearing a baby pink dress with her hair flowing down, framing her beautiful face. She looked absolutely stunning. Despite the cold and the snow, he felt hot and flushed.
“Ohhhh Young Ro, you look pretty today. Who is your lucky partner.” One of her friends exclaimed, making Soo Ho blush.
Young Ro looked out and noticed Soo Ho, smiling she rushed towards him. As they waited in line at the ticket counter, Soo Ho leaned in and whispered, “you look beautiful”.
“You too.” Young Ro replied, “I mean you look handsome. Beautiful. You look beautiful too.” She said, mentally cursing herself.
Soo Ho laughed, unable to control his expression at how adorable he found her.
“Say cheese.” A student with a camera told them as she snapped a picture of them, “come for the picture later!” she said before disappearing into the crowd.
As they basked in the festivities of the open house, Soo Ho got increasingly nervous. He saw the posters of Hosu Dance Party all over and he knew they would have to dance at one point or another. He did not want to embarrass Young Ro with his bad dancing, he fidgeted with the can of drinks she offered him.
Noticing his pale expression, she asked “Why? Is there a problem? Are you uncomfortable?”
“It’s not that…it’s just….I’m not a good dancer.” Soo Ho admitted nervously, making Young Ro chuckle.
“Do you have any talents? Like singing, playing an instrument?” She asked excitedly.
“Not really.” He said, Young Ro pouted. “I’m good at shooting games.” He tried to liven the mood.
“Eun Young Ro! Eun Young Ro! Come on, quit standing there and join us with your partner.” Her dormmates yelled and pulled her onto the dancing floor.
Before being pulled away, Young Ro grabbed onto Soo Ho’s arms. Both of them got pushed onto the middle of the dance floor, as the current song ended, One Way Ticket by Eruption started playing.
Soo Ho looked nervously at her, with a confident smile, Young Ro bowed and twirled, leading Soo Ho and leading the dance. Soon Soo Ho followed her steps and the world around them disappeared.
Even as the song ended, and they finished dancing, they gazed at each other, smiling. Giddy from the excitement. Applause from the crowd snapped them back to reality, Soo Ho took Young Ro’s hands in his and pulled her away from the dance floor and outside the dormitory.
It was snowing, the trees around the campus were white, making it look like a winter wonderland. They walked towards the garden area where it was empty and stopped at the end of the road, Soo Ho took out the dove necklace he had been wearing since he left Berlin for his university exchange program, given to him by his sister.
He remembered when they were robbed on the train from Berlin to the airport, he was ready to give everything except this necklace. He fought with the robbers and attained a nasty scar on the side of his face near his eyebrows.
When his friends asked why he was so hell-bent on protecting the necklace, his reply was simply “It’s much more important than my own life.” and today he was taking it off to give it to the person who was becoming more important than his own life.
“Isn’t this necklace from your sister? It’s very important to you so why are you giving it to me?” Young Ro asked, flabbergasted at the gesture.
“It is the only thing I have to give to you. You’re very important to me as well.” Soo Ho said, barely a whisper, his eyes welling up at the intensity of emotions he was feeling.
Young Ro looked at the necklace, an angelic smile gracing her face. She looked up at Soo Ho, her smile disappearing, she approached him and placed a chaste kiss on his lips, her cheeks becoming red.
Soo Ho’s eyes widened, he felt his heart burst with joy, it was a miracle she felt the same way as him. He pulled her into his arms and leaned in, kissing her. A gentle yet firm and loving kiss. Only breaking apart for air.

The sound of yelling woke Soo Ho up, he was still holding onto Young Ro’s hand, a soft smile on his face from the dream he had. He looked at his watch, it was the first time in weeks he slept so soundly for 4 hours straight.
He pulled the blanket higher and properly tucked Young Ro in before picking up his rifle and going out of the room.
Boon OK
“Those little….” she cursed as she watched Soo Ho take Young Ro’s hand in his and kiss it gently.
They were in a hostage situation because of Young Ro and Soo Ho and instead of trying to fix the problem, those two are busy dating behind closed doors. Boon Ok thought, rage filling every part of her body.
