This is just a short story I made for a server I'm in.

Work Text:

There once was a war god that watched over the mortal realm for centuries. He had fought along side the mortals in some battles, watched over others, or blessing mortals with divine strength to win wars. During times of peace, however, he grew bored and decided to interact with the mortals.

During one of these times of peace, he met a young man, a librarian, by the name of Markus. The war god was amazed by Markus's kindness in all aspects. He didn't expect him to fall for the mortal, but he did. He and Markus fell in love, though they kept their love a secret. They were happy together. The war god would even help Markus in his library.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. A war broke out and Markus was forced to fight. The war god watched and even joined the side Markus was on. He didn't want to risk losing the one he loved.

During one of the battles, Markus was severely injured and dying. The war god went to his lover's side instantly. He carefully picked the dying man and brought him to a place of magic. He desperately tried to save the librarian he loved so much. His efforts were in vain as Markus died in his arms. The war god let out a heartbroken cry as he clutched the body of his fallen lover close. He cried and cursed out the the other gods in heartbreak and anger.

Unbeknownst to the war god, the young librarian wouldn't get to pass on. The other gods, the god of time and god of chaos, devised a plan to break the war god's spirit.

They started the was and made sure Markus was forced to fight. Upon the death of the young librarian, the god of time trapped his soul within a realm outside of time itself. One where he'll remain forever trapped and unable to move on.

In the end, their love became nothing but sad memories for the god centuries later.
