Rina Mai- Female, 15, Japanese
Characteristics- Dark blue hair usually in a ponytail, clear blue eyes, some say they look cloudy when she's not in a good mood, wears round glasses- makes her look like a nerd. Not very tall, about 5’4, she is thin and gaunt but not as bad as All Might. She frequently wears a black leather jacket over a graphic T-shirt with distressed jeans and blue hightops.
Gains a lot of weight and muscle when she focuses on getting into UA. Has a fast metabolism so she loses weight quickly. Has a nervous tick where she bites the inside of her cheek and her tongue, this sometimes leads to her spitting out blood if she bites too hard. Fights mostly hand-to-hand with a lot of assistance from her quirk as a barrier and movement enhancement. She focuses mostly on speed and fluidity in her movements to use her quirk and the enviornment around her to catch her opponent off guard.
Quirk-(Water Manipulation ---> Sodium Control) Can condense water produced from her hands to create different objects and such. The water has a density and volume limit, but she can train these limits to become stronger and stronger. There is a certain distance in which she can control this water of course but it is much smaller than most water-based quirks, she has to touch the water first before she can control it. It seems to also be an emitter quirk with a touch condition, She can also create weapons and armour out of the “water” though she soon finds out that the water was not in fact water at all but highly concentrated salt water. So instead of using water, she has been mostly using salt. HAS A SALT DEFICIENCY, She uses the salinity from her body to actually move the water so she controls the salt and therefore controls the water.
Her quirk causes frequent Hyponatremia which means she has low blood salinity. This is caused by her overusing her quirk which draws from the sodium in her blood and body to guide the water in a sort of fluid like crystal structure (this is why it makes good armor). The salinity the water has to be at for her to move it is currently unknown but it depends on the size of the water. If it is too large then some of the water is "shed" from the main mass. This water has no salt content and is usually very clean water. This might be caused by the sodium "sticking" to the other minerals in the water and using it to aid the quirk users control of the substance.
There is also a possibility that the quirk can be used to control other substances besides water with similar properties such as some chlorates and nitrates. Also, it might react with Mina Ashidos acid- hydrofluoric acid, which when mixed with NaOH, a strong base, will produce an aqueous sodium fluoride, NaF , and water. Quirk has multiple opportunities to manipulate multiple substances and maybe even blood if advanced enough.
Behavior- Timid and quiet, easily startled, will pet every cat she sees. Cautious of new things and conscientious of her own actions. Can be somewhat argumentative when angered and will mouth off if she is truly irked. Pretty smart and keeps good grades, participated in a few sports when she was in middle school but never really caught on to one.
Likes- Salty snacks (chips and other unhealthy things), Canary (specifically his voice), Clouds and rainy weather, cats though they barely tolerate her, soft blankets, and green.
Dislikes- Dynamite (he’s loud), loud noises, being scared, sour candy, and spiders.
Motivations- Unknown to her, she doesn’t have any true motivations except her family and her drive to prove herself. She wants to prove to herself that she can overcome her own limits. Frequently underestimates her abilities and has a decent amount of pessimism.
Flaws- Trusts others WAY too easily (protec the smol bean). Is very scared in the beginning, doesn’t use her quirk to its full potential because she is scared of her quirk. She is scared of it because she does not like the "feel" of it. It feels heavy, and she has claustrophobia. Also she can condense the water to a point where it becomes a solid edge sharper than many a blade. This scares her because she could cut someone (simple as that). She gets over this fear during 1st year though.
Strengths- Will fight to the death for her friends, PLUS ULTRA am I right? Has very good handwriting and is pretty good at drawing and being creative. Her quirk promotes this as she frequently will draw with water and watercolor. Very good at karate and tae-kwon-do, also fighting will weapons like the bo-staff and short sword.
Hero Costume- Her hero costume consists of a pseudo wetsuit that has hydrophilic and porous properties. It also has blue accents and is a little looser than a proper wetsuit, the suit covers her arms down to a few inches below her elbows where it clings to her skin to reduce any slack. The bottom of the suit travels all the way down to her ankles where they meet a pair of super gripy steel toed boots with a secret water reserve. Wears a utility belt with many small water resevoirs and salt packets as well as a knife (because why not) and some first aid kit supplies. Wears fingerless gloves that also have a gripy quality to hold onto items and store a small amount of water. She can feel through her wetsuit to manipulate water as the suit is porous and allows for the passage of large amounts of salt (This is not implemented until it is revealed that she uses salt more than water). She also wears a loose navy blue rain jacket over the whole ensemble that goes to a few inches below her elbows. It has buckles to strap the jacket around her forearms and waist. This conceals any armor she has condensed on her middle and is good at maintaining her body temperature when she gets cold from all the water. The costume also consists of a few small salt deposits embedded into the jacket with a few green accents thrown in.
Family- Her Mother is a pharmacist and her Father is a physical therapist. She has a good relation with both parents and frequently calls them. She also has a little brother who looks up to her but also is a bit of a hero nerd (like Midoriya level hero nerd). She reqularly goes out to get icecream with her family and gets random calls from her brother asking random questions (His words were: "I like to keep her on her toes."). Her Mothers name is Himawari Hinami and her Fathers name is Akio Hinami. Her Brothers name is Taiko Hinami.
