Wei Wuxian hasn’t been able to sleep through the night in years. He supposed it first began around the time that his parents had died. He couldn’t even properly remember when or how that had happened but that in itself could have been the cause. Or it could have something to do with having to survive on the streets as a child. Who knows really. The point is, Wei Wuxian hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in many years.
As he grew older, his insomnia gradually became worse and worse. He would often stay up all night and try to get a few hours of sleep during the day, much to his brother’s chagrin. But no matter how hard he tried he could never sleep at night, so he usually spent that time working and perfecting different talisman and cultivation techniques.
By the time he was in his late teens, Wei Wuxian had given up on sleep entirely, figuring that nothing would ever be able to help. One could say that he wholeheartedly believed that he would only sleep when he was dead. But it turns out that even that wasn’t true. At all.
Having said that, his lack of sleep at night wasn’t due to insomnia or simply not being able to sleep. In fact, Wei Wuxian could sleep perfectly fine…if it hadn’t been for a certain someone who shall not be named.
