Who we hate, who we love (to hate)

Summary:

John Winchester gets beat up by Mary Winchester and learns just how terrible of a parent he was. Ellen and Bobby also learn just how terrible he was and John goes to hell

Chapter 1: John Winchester the Piñata

Summary:

Updates to heaven but more importantly...
John gets beat up

Notes:

I really fucking hate John Winchester, and my birthday is coming up so... this is my present to myself.

I also plan on having an actually (kind of) consistent schedule for releasing this fic (dates for chapters are at endnotes)

This takes place in my 'Peace' universe, so if you want to read the backstory in-depth...maybe check that out?? Long story short though: Dean rescues Cas from the Empty as soon as he is taken; Michael works with the Winchester and he and Adam get together; Winchesters (I'm including Adam and Michael in this—Jack is a Winchester. SO is Cas) beat Chuck and Jack kinda becomes the new God.

Let me know if you need more backstory to understand this fic

This fic is pretty seriously tagged because of Ch. 2 (I'll add warnings for it there)

Ch. 1 is safe to read though, the only thing that's here is graphic violence (john getting beat up) and character death (but this takes place in heaven so...)

You can read Ch.1 alone if you'd like, the rest is just plot (I'm sorry I couldn't help myself)

Chapter Text

POV: William “Bill” Harvelle

--------------------------------------

Chapter 1 - John Winchester the Piñata

--------------------------------------

He knew what to expect from heaven: a normal day at the Roadhouse. Repetitive, but normal. Ellen would run around yelling at customers or after their daughter. Jo, big enough to run around but small enough to hide well, would torment people in the roadhouse.

She would never grow older and none of the grey hairs Ellen definitely did not have would grow into her shoulder-length hair. He knew they never aged, but he was content in his memories.

He expected a regular day at the roadhouse. Life—or more accurately death — has a way of surprising you when you get in a routine. “Ellen,” he called out, looking at the shelves of the bar. “Can you grab some more whiskey?”

No response. In fact, there was an eerie silence around him. He turned around to find the Roadhouse empty. All the customers were gone and the tables were clean. There was no trace of anyone having been there.

“Jo?”

He was startled when the door opened, turning quickly, and reached under the bar for a weapon. The stranger walked in, a gruff-looking man with a hat on. He looked around and asked, “Where’s Ellen?”

“Who are you?” Bill asked, tightening his grip on the machete in his hand. He kept it out of sight though, behind the bar counter.

“Bobby,” the stranger—Bobby—said.

“Singer?” he asked. Bobby nodded.

Bobby Singer. He knew about the other hunter. Great source of information.

“I’m Bill Harvelle,” he said, not moving from his spot behind the counter. He knew about the hunter, but he certainly didn’t trust him yet.

“Ellen’s husband?” Bobby asked. Bill nodded. “Can I get a beer?”

Bill hesitated before nodding. Grip tight on the weapon, he grabbed a beer and placed it on the counter. When Bobby settled in a seat and took a sip, Bill asked, “Do you know what’s going on?”

“Admin change.” Bill raised his eyebrows in confusion. “New god decided that heaven should be different. Not memories, but a place to make new ones.”

“Does that mean—”

“Bill?” He turned to the woman that had just walked into the Roadhouse. Ellen . “Bobby? What’s going on?” Bill dropped the weapon when he heard the recognition in his wife's voice. Bobby quickly caught her up on what had happened with heaven.

When Bobby finished he asked, “Now are you two idjits gonna kiss?” Both of them blushed and turned to each other.

“Hi,” Bill said, grabbing her hand. “I missed you.” Ellen gripped his shirt and pulled him down into a kiss. When they parted, she wrapped her arms around him.

“I missed you too,” she murmured into his chest. They all jumped when they heard the loud footsteps at the entrance. Bobby groaned silently. Bill understood.

John fucking Winchester . He scanned the Roadhouse. “What the hell is going on?” he asked gruffly. Bobby sighed and started quickly explaining.

“Wait,” John interrupted. “Someone overthrew God ?”

“God hasn’t been in charge of heaven for a while,” Ellen said. “It was actually angels.”

“Actually—” Bobby paused. “Nevermind,” Bobby said and finished his explanation of the changes in heaven.

“So I can see Mary again?” John asked. “The real Mary, not a memory?” Ellen and Bobby nodded. Speaking of a Mary, maybe I could look for Maria soon

They really shouldn’t have been shocked when another person stepped into the Roadhouse, it makes sense that people would look for others to help explain.

But her. She still managed to shock them.

“Mary?” John said. Her eyes widened when she saw him.

“John?”

“Mary,” John sighed happily. They both moved closer to each other and stopped in front of each other. He had a wide smile on his face and looked as if he were about to cry— wait, he can do that?

Mary looked up at him and punched his face with her right hand.

They all gasped and John staggered backward in shock. Mary lunged at him, throwing him to the ground. “You piece of shit!” she screamed, kicking at him. She straddled him and threw multiple punches at his face. “You fucking piece of worthless crap! How could you? You stupid motherfucker!”

She emphasized each word with a punch. She jumped off him and threw a kick at his side. “I cannot fucking ,” she said, throwing a chair to the ground and breaking off the leg, “believe you!” She moved back to him and started beating him up like a piñata with the stick. “How could you do that to our children? To Dean?”

She screamed in frustration, dropping the chair leg on the floor. She kicked him multiple times and dropped to the ground, throwing her weight onto him, and punched him repeatedly. “Don’t fucking get me started on all the shit you did to Dean. I fucking hate you! You motherfucking piece of shit!”

She jumped up, throwing another kick at him, this time landing one on his face. She grabbed Bobby's beer bottle and threw it at John’s face. It shattered against his jaw and John screamed in pain. “Oh, that doesn’t feel good, does it? You fucking asshole!” Mary scanned the environment and landed on the machete Bill had dropped. She scrambled towards it, gripping it tightly.

Notes:
